EXCLUSIVE: Swizz Beatz Names Marley Marl As His #1 GOAT Producer

SWIZZ BEATZ

Swizz Beatz has his own show on Hulu? Sign us up!

Aptly titled Drive with Swizz Beatz, this new series sees the legendary producer alongside his son, Nasir Dean (aka Note Marcato), as they travel worldwide and explore the difference in car cultures. And while music may be a #1 passion for both, it appears cars come in as a closed second.

The Source had the opportunity to chat with Swizz Beatz and Note Marcato at the red carpet premiere and screening of DRIVE WITH SWIZZ BEATZ in Los Angeles. The special evening took place at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

What is your favorite car of all time?

Swizz Beatz: Damn, all time? I don’t think about all time, but I’ll say the LaFerrari is up there.

Note Marcato: I’m not gonna lie, I really liked the new SP3. It’s crazy.

How was it drifting through the mountains of Tokyo?

Swizz Beatz: I still feel like I got a helmet on. It was out of body experience.

Note Marcato: For sure, and it was on a spiritual level. These people were masters of their craft. You don’t have that type of feeling from anything else.

Did you see Meek Mill called you the GOAT producer on Complex?

Swizz Beatz: Oh man, I didn’t see that.

Who is the GOAT producer for you?

Swizz Beatz: For me, it’s Marley Mall.

Note Marcato: For me, it’s 1000% My father. Because when he was explaining to me how he actually made them, I believe was last New Year’s or Christmas. It blew me away because it’s unorthodox. I’m not even saying that because he’s my father, I’m saying that because he’s amazing.

Swizz Beatz Recalls The Making Of “Party Up” With DMX: “It’s The Biggest Song We Ever Made”

When you think of the cream of the crop when it comes to hip-hop producers, who do you think of? Metro Boomin, The Alchemist, Scott Storch, Dr. Dre? There are plenty that belong in the hierarchy. One of those names that must be in the thick of it is Swizz Beatz. The Bronx, New York mainstay has given us countless classics by bringing his own flare. He has worked with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, and other icons in the genre. With all of his experience, he knows how to bring the best out of others, including DMX.

HipHopDX reported that Swizz and up-and-coming Afrobeat artist, Rema, had a chat hosted by Rolling Stone. The Musicians on Musicians series has been producing some interesting content with older and newer generation artists. For example, Snoop Dogg and Latto have been a part of this too. Swizz spoke with Rema on the creation of one of the biggest party rap songs of all time, “Party Up” by DMX.

Rema And Swizz Beatz Have A One-On-One Conversation

Swizz mentioned how reading the room and the vibe of the artist as soon as they step into the booth is critical in making a hit. However, things were a little different with DMX. If you have heard the song, you know how rowdy the beat is. Swizz revealed what was unique about this song. “It worked for DMX one time with “Party Up.” But if you listen to [it], he does everything against the track. Like, you could tell he didn’t want to do the song. But I forced him because we was on a deadline.” Another reason for the track’s success was due to DMX wanting to prove the doubters wrong. This was from a GQ interview back in 2019. “I was the only artist in history that had their first two albums debut at No. 1, and have two platinum albums in one year! So I’m like, ‘I gotta do it again!’ Aight, like, muthaf****s think it’s a joke?! Aight, Ima show you somethin’!”

What are your initial thoughts on Swizz Beatz revealing how he made the beat for “Party Up” with DMX? Do you think Swizz is the best producer of all time? Is this the greatest beat he had ever made? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Timbaland & Swizz Beatz Win Cultural Influence Award, “Verzuz” To Return: “We’re Gonna Come Back Strong”

The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards were another success, which is no surprise given the fact that it has been airing for 17 years. So many fantastic artists and producers were in the house for the evening and there were plenty of great moments throughout it. One of which was Timbaland and Swizz Beatz taking the hardware for the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award. They are the third winners of it, with it debuting back in 2021. It is great recognition for these two iconic producers who have been pushing hip-hop music forward for decades now. Both gave their sincerest thanks to the fans during their speeches.

Billboard shared some quotables from Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. Timb got things started, “I always dreamed I’d be on stage accepting an award about hip-hop. Doing music back in Virginia, I never thought I’d make it, but I’m here.” However, besides being appreciative and humble about the win, he had more to share. “Me and my brother created something special, and it ain’t over. Black-owned, Verzuz, me and Swizz Beatz. I’m glad to share this with my brother.”

Timbaland And Swizz Beatz Accept The Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award

We heard some rumblings earlier this year about a third season, but it seems to be closer to returning. Swizz repeated a similar message. “We own Verzuz again. We got quiet for a minute, but we’re gonna come back strong and show you what it is. That wasn’t just something for the pandemic; that’s something for the world.” With plenty of legends showing up to their show in the past and the news about a new format, this is shaping up to be epic.

What are your initial thoughts on Timbaland and Swizz Beatz winning the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award? Are you excited for the return of Verzuz? Do you think it will be an improvement over the previous format? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Pharrell And Timbaland Debate Who Has The Better Jay-Z Collabs

Timbaland and Pharrell have been friends for a while and they clearly admire each other’s work. They crossed paths recently at an event celebrating another production legend. Swizz Beatz recently celebrated his birthday and the celebration was multi-faceted. Pictures of the producer heading out on a double date with Lil Durk made the rounds last week. Now, more content from his birthday festivities is emerging online.

In a new clip two more veteran producers, Pharrell and Timbaland, are discussing their respective work with Jay-Z. As you might expect, things quickly evolved into a debate over who had the better catalog. But there’s no ego to be found here as the pair are actually arguing on behalf of each other. “What are we doing? ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder’!” Pharrell begins giving credit to the Timbaland-producer cut. That started a total back and forth between the two over who’s collaborations with the legendary Roc Nation chief were better. Check out the adorable clip below.

Who Has The Better Jay-Z Collabs?

Pharrell has never stuck to just music and earlier this year he expanded his reach into the world of fashion even further. Pusha T and Malice reunited Clipse to perform and debut a new song together. Tyler, The Creator, Jay-Z and Beyonce, and many more musicians were in attendance for the show.

Meanwhile, Pharrell has also continued working on new music. He’s claimed a few times this year that new tunes could be on the way soon. One moment in particular that hyped fans up is when he said that he had new N.E.R.D songs on the way soon. In another interview last month, he shared that he has over 3 albums worth of new music that he’s currently sitting on. Who do you think has the best catalog of collaborations with Jay-Z? Swizz Beatz & Alicia Keys’ Son Egypt Wows With Piano Skills

It appears that musical genius runs in Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’ family. Swizz posted on Instagram (and aggregated by The Shade Room) of their son, Egypt, going absolutely ballistic on the piano. The video begins with Swizz coming into the room, where beautiful music is pouring out. That’s when the video sees Egypt seated at the ivories, turned around and looking at his dad while he’s still playing incredible music. He continues to play for the better part of a minute before ending the song and getting up from the piano.

Swizz Beatz posted this to his socials with the caption, “This boy is turning into something else,” with tons of celebratory emojis. The Shade Room adds its own caption to the amazing feat: “Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’ son Egypt giving y’all a glimpse of what he can do on them keys!” Egypt is 11 years old and is the older brother to Beatz and Keys’ other son, Genesis, age eight. And if he’s doing this at 11, who knows what heights Egypt can take his music career to.

A post shared by The Shade Room (@theshaderoom)

Beatz and Keys got married on July 31, 2010. Since then, they’ve had two sons and plenty of musical success. Alicia Keys just recently celebrated her Jay-Z collab anthem “Empire State of Mind” going nine times platinum. Swizz Beatz, a music producer and rapper with almost 20 years of experience in the hip-hop industry, has been feeling nostalgic by sharing a ton of DMX stories and content.

But first and foremost, the couple is still going strong. Other than fostering the musical talents of their boys, they keep giving each other grand romantic gestures. Swizz Beatz recently gave Alicia Keys a $500,000 Virgil Abloh-designed Mercedes-Maybach car. So now Keys is mobbing around in style while her son Egypt is becoming an honest prodigy on the piano. Where Egypt takes his piano powers is anyone’s guess. But we wouldn’t be shocked if he wanted to take up music as something more than a hobby.
