DMX Death Anniversary: Ruff Ryders Honour Late Rapper At His Gravesite

One of the hardest parts about being a hip-hop head is the number of casualties listeners witness in comparison to other genres of music. Gun violence has taken far too many talented lyricists before their time, and the same is true of drug overdoses. The latter is what caused DMX to pass away when he was only 50 years old on April 9, 2021. Though it’s now been three years since his departure, those closest to the multi-talent continue to celebrate him, particularly when the anniversary of his passing comes around.

As HipHopDX reports, in 2024 the crew at Ruff Ryders Entertainment are doing their part to remember DMX. On Tuesday afternoon they shared content from their trip to the fallen star’s gravesite in Yonkers’ Oakland Cemetery where they reflected on some of the New York native’s best moments. “Let’s give it to X because he stayed true to himself and he never sold out,” one person says in the video below.

DMX’s Legacy Lives On Past His Untimely Death

“He kept it real till the casket dropped, y’know what I’m saying? You don’t get real cats like that, that represent from the beginning to the end,” they further praised the “Where The Hood At” hitmaker. In 2023, the same group of Ruff Ryders hosted a “Ryde Out” event to commemorate their friend, and we’re curious to see what other creative ways they’ll find to keep his torch lit going forward. Thankfully, X had a large family who can help them brainstorm ideas for years to come.

DMX may no longer be with us in body, but his spirit certainly lives on through his seventeen children. One of them, Exodus, recently took part in the “of course” TikTok trend, letting the world know just how similar he and his late father are. Earlier today (February 8), Philadelphia’s Finest shared that her memoir, Who’s That Girl?, would arrive this Fall. Eve famously catapulted into stardom in the 1990s as the First Lady of Ruff Ryders, a title that also holds a spot in her debut album’s name. Still, her accomplishments would push her out of America’s East Coast and in front of a global audience.

The story of Eve’s rise has been well-documented in interviews and documentaries. Yet, fans will soon receive a more reflective perspective from the rapper, herself. “I’m excited for people to get to know me on a deeper level,” Eve stated. “This story is decades in the making.” Further, famed Hip Hop author Kathy Iandoli linked with Eve to round out the memoir, ensuring her story would also be told with cultural sensitivity.

She’ll also dive into her path to motherhood—one that wasn’t always easy but was worth it. In early 2022, Eve and her husband, Maxmillion Cooper, welcomed a son named Wilde Wolf. It was Eve’s first child.

We also can’t forget Eve’s contributions outside of music. The raptress climbed the Billboard charts with tracks like “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” alongside Gwen Stefani, but her hits aren’t her only achievements in entertainment. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of Jadakiss’s debut album, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye. The album was released on August 7, 2001 via Ruff Ryders Entertainment and Interscope Records. It was Jadakiss’s first full-length solo release following his work with Styles P and Sheek Louch as The Lox. The group had released their second album on Ruff Ryders and Interscope the year prior. Clocking in at an hour and 17 minutes, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye contains 21 tracks. Producers on the album include The Alchemist, DJ Premier, Just Blaze, The Neptunes, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and many more. Kiss tha Game Goodbye is currently certified gold by the RIAA. It also peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B and Hip Hop Albums chart.

A rapper who often had standout verses on songs and features with The Lox, Jadakiss proved that he could hold his own with his first solo album. His debut was the start of his incredibly successful solo career but was still rooted in the sound that The Lox had already established. 50 Cent Hasn’t Collaborated With Lil Wayne Yet, But He’s Hoping It’ll Happen In The Near Future

Based on the titling of 50 Cent’s current live show excursion, The Final Lap Tour, fans may assume that the rapper-turned-mogul will hang up his microphone to focus on his film and television ventures. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. During a recent interview, the Queens native revealed his appearance on Nas’ album Magic 2 was just the beginning.

When Capital XTRA’s hosts Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie asked if there were any other musical acts he’d be interested in working with, he immediately answered that he’d like to collaborate on a new song with Lil Wayne.

“I didn’t do [a song] with Wayne directly. He’s one of the ones that, like — Wayne has been trained,” said 50 as he praised the Young Money Records star.

If a record does come from this shoutout, it wouldn’t be the first time the pair rubbed shoulders. 50 Cent revealed that they rocked the same stages earlier in his career. “People don’t know. I was on the Cash Money/Ruff Ryders tour — before they opened the curtain. Before the show started, people were still walking in and sh*t, and I was doing my sh*t,” he joked.

He continued, “They thought I was lightweight, but then I came back around.” Even back then, 50 Cent had the foresight that he’d shift the culture of hip-hop.

Regarded as one of the most anticipated releases within the month of the 9/11 tragedy(which also includes Jay-Z’s Blueprint and Fabolous’ debut Ghetto Fabolous), Jadakiss’ premiere project Kiss Tha Game Goodbye provides a peek into the L.O.X.’s star emcee and the album succession that has led him all the way to the offices of Roc Nation, where he is now on the roster. It was also proof that an emcee whose career began on a mixtape could actually morph into a full music career.
