Mustard Recruits Ella Mai & Roddy Ricch For Toxic Relationship Record “One Bad Decision”

Mustard is really feeding the fans ahead of his new album, Faith Of A Mustard Seed. Just a couple of hours ago, the hitmaking producer put out the tracklist and it is going to feature 14 tracks and a stacked roster of features. Names range from Lil Yachty to Vince Staples, Quavo, Ty Dolla $ign, and more. Before this was revealed to us, we already knew Travis Scott would be a part of this, as “Parking Lot” was the lead single. Following that, the “Not Like Us” beat dropped “Pray For Me”, the expected closer which sees him rap, introspectively no less, for the first time in his career. Now, Mustard is gifting fans one more teaser with “One Bad Decision”.

You could make the argument –quite easily we think– that this is the best song from the album so far. Making appearances on this track are London R&B balladeer Ella Mai, and fellow Cali rapper, Roddy Ricch. Both deliver impassioned performances, and occasionally duet, over a crowd-pleasing instrumental. It has that signature West Coast bounce, but it’s slowed down and more seductive to fit the R&B aesthetic. Then, there’s a killer guitar-like loop, or at least what appears to sound like one, and it just makes sense.

From listening to the lyrics, it sounds like Roddy and Ella are intertwined in a toxic relationship, that finds them coming back for more, even though they claim to be done after “One Bad Decision”. However, in the early stages of annotating the lyrics, Genius believes both artists are sneak dissing Drake. Roddy’s (below), apparently reference the fake toughness of the OVO crew that Kendrick Lamar called out in “6:16 in LA”. In could also be a shot at the recent photos of Drake at Michael Rubin’s party where he looked aged. But you listen and decide for yourself if Ella and Roddy are getting in on the beef with the link below.

You was finding out what b****es I would f*** on the side

But I hate to see you walk away from me
You can’t match my energy

Khalid Is Thankful For His Musical Journey On “Ground”

Khalid still remains to be one of the biggest R&B/pop stars of this generation. Even though it feels like you don’t hear his name as much as you might have in the late 2010’s, he hasn’t gone anywhere. He still pulls elite numbers on streaming services and radio play even without a new album since 2021. However, the El Paso, Texas native will be following up Scenic Drive (The Tape) very soon. In fact, the LP drought will end on August 2 when he comes through with Sincere, his third studio tape. So far, the “Young Dumb & Broke” singer has put out two singles for it, “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me” and “Adore U”. But Khalid is coming back for thirds with “Ground”.

Overall, this track finds the veteran hitmaker at his most introspective, as he details a past psychedelic trip. According to Uproxx, Khalid shared an announcement of “Ground”, as well as the story behind it. “Years ago, through moments of uncertainty, I really began to question what my purpose was as an artist”, he began. “I started my own personal journey through psychedelics in 2021 and I’ll never forget the moment this song came to my mind. Just like the random mountain I climbed in Arizona, life is an uphill battle. As beautiful as the top may seem, I’m so happy to embrace the ground that I walk on”.

When you read the lyrics on the surface, it sounds like another relationship cut. But with this explanation in mind, you start to pick up on how clever the writing actually is. He is singing about himself to himself across the track’s 3:07 runtime. Overall, it is a beautiful song from Khalid and it really evokes a sense of self-belief and never giving up on the road to prosperity. With song’s like this, Sincere looks to be a top-flight record for him.

Tory Lanez Brings Sad & Steamy Vibes On Newest Lost Tapes Entries, “Girls In The Room (2020) / L.M.B.B (2018)”

Since the start of July, Brampton, Ontario, Canadian native Tory Lanez has been dishing out some unreleased recordings under the “Lost Tapes” moniker. He has done so every weekend and their existences range from 2015-2020. All of these releases see the multi-hyphenate using his auto-crooning style, which means that R&B is the name of the game. Fans of his continuously debate which side of him they prefer. But with him serving 10 years of prison time, any “new” music from Tory is going to be a welcome sight for now.

The topical focus for these now six different tracks has centered around falling in and out of love and getting absolutely freaky in the bedroom. That remains to be the formula on Tory Lanez’s two latest “Lost Tapes” installments, “Girls In The Room (2020)” and “L.M.B.B (2018)”. On the former, Daystar Peterson is drunkenly singing to a girl who has he has felt strongly about for some time. He tries to snake his way into her heart by telling this woman that she is messing around with the wrong guys. Conversely, “L.M.B.B” sees Tory losing “baddest b****” after she played with his feelings. Listen to these new tracks and let us know if these are your favorites from the series so far in the comments.

Tyga & Sabrina Claudio Want To Spoil Their Significant Others On “No Question”

Tyga had the internet feeling conflicted after some lovey pictures with veteran R&B/soul singer Sabrina Claudio began to surface. However, it was a false alarm, as it was all to promote their then forthcoming single “No Question”. Overall, this team-up is quite the head-scratcher. Obviously, Tyga and Sabrina are two very different artists, with the former responsible for creating some of the biggest rap hits of the last decade. Then, for the latter, she is reputable for her versatile, breathy, and smooth vocals. Although, we have to give Tyga kudos for also being able to create hits time and time again, so “No Question” did have potential in that regard.

That is what this single feels it destined for. We can easily see this track getting quite a bit of radio play and streams. It has an agreeable summer vibe that feels reminiscent of Calvin Harris. Claudio delivers a catchy chorus and melody, and the Cali MC sticks to the topical focus and his usual low-key delivery does match up. On “No Question”, Tyga and his guest star bring some cute lyrics to the table as they are looking to just be that rock for their respective partners. “She asks me do I got a type? / I told her, “Baby, you what I like” / A lot of girls in here tonight, yeah / Matter fact, you the highlight, uh“. Zacari Comes Through With His Flashy & Stylish Debut Album “Bliss”

Zacari is someone who rose into the world of stardom through a now unforgettable feature. That of course is on the DAMN. cut “LOVE.” with the one and only Kendrick Lamar. Just two years after that 2017 collaboration, the Bakersfield, California singer/rapper would go on to sign with TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment). Since being with the label, he has put forth a handful of EPs (SOL & Run Wild Run Free) and a lot of singles. Some of which make Zacari’s debut album Bliss even two years later. That would be the title track with a feature from fellow label-mate Isaiah Rashad.

So, what took so long for Zacari to release Bliss? Well, he took the time to speak with Billboard on why this debut was important to get right. Part of it came from the studio sessions with Kendrick and ScHoolboy Q and just being around them throughout the creative processes. “When you’re in the room with these people like Kendrick and ScHoolboy, and they have their track record of albums and you’re watching them do it, [you see] what it really takes. It’s super important for the quality to not only be in the sound, but [also] in the writing and introspectiveness. Your pen is going to grow, you’re going to experience more things, and then you have to learn how to put them out in in the right way. I think that’s what takes time”.

We can see and hear that Zacari brought that mindset over to Bliss. The soundscapes are rich are very well mixed. Zacari’s vocals are consistently strong and uses those various sounds we mentioned to do some experimenting as well. While it still might take some time to fully develop a true “Zacari” track, this album is a great start to that journey.

Strick & Future Finally Release Their Collab “RECIPE FOR LOVE”

Strick might have an incredibly stacked album on the way if fan speculation is correct. The Lumberton, North Carolina rapper and singer of YSL affiliation already has Future, James Blake, Young Thug, and 6LACK potentially on tap. The first of those guests lands on the latest record from Strick called “RECIPE FOR LOVE”. This is a song that has been in the making for two years, according to the “KISSES MAKE SURE” artist. While getting out music can be a pain in the rear overall, Strick was more so thankful than anything else to finally have this track see the light. He took the time to thank Future and the “RECIPE FOR LOVE” producer for their efforts on Instagram.

“Thank you @future!! Means a lot bro! Song is incredible!! 2 years in the making! Shout out @skipnosteps on the beat! This is a major moment in my career!!”, Strick said. He then went to share an inspirational message for artists with a similar background. “I’m from Lumberton North Carolina, this for all the small-town kids who have even bigger dreams! Never give up!!”. How is the song as whole, though? Well, in typical Strick fashion, it is a slow, emotional, and sensual cut, something that is in Future’s wheelhouse. He was recently in that mode to some degree on WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU as well as HNDRXX prior to that. Time will tell on when Strick will come through with the album, as details are still murky. But this figures to be one of its hits.

Tory Lanez Digs Up Some “Lost Tapes” From 2016 Called “Girls Around The World” & “I’ve Been”

Tory Lanez is still giving fans some heat even though he remains behind bars in the form of the “(Lost Tapes)”. These are a handful of tracks that were recorded by the Canadian melodic rapper in 2016. Both “Girls Around The World” and “I’ve Been” are also self-produced, along with some help from his frequent collaborator, Play Picasso. The latter has helped make some of the rapper/singer’s biggest tracks such as “Traphouse” “LUV” and more. Their chemistry is highly underrated and if you have not heard a lot of their work together, we highly recommend you check out their catalog.

Overall, these two “Lost Tapes” cuts from Tory Lanez see him in his R&B bag. Fans debate back and forth whether or not they think singing Tory or rapping Tory is better. It is certainly a tough question to answer, and that versatility is why the Canadian has gained such a following over the years. On “Girls Around The World”, he experiments with the Afrobeats genre as he swoons over women from Africa. Then on “I’ve Been”, Tory is trying to win back a former lover over a sexier and moodier club-ready beat. Hopefully, these two “Lost Tapes” are a part of a full project of the same.

Cardi B Takes An R&B Approach In New Song Preview: Listen

Cardi B is back to teasing her fans with some new music on social media as they eagerly await her sophomore LP. The Bronx, New Yorker has been taking her sweet time since the release of her GRAMMY-winning debut full of hits, Invasion of Privacy, back in 2018. However, even with it being over six years in between projects, she still has incredible pull. Cardi B’s last few solo singles such as “Enough (Miami)”, “Like What (Freestyle)”, “Bongos”, and “Hot S***” all have over 24 million streams each. Additionally, he influence is still there, as she recently won the Hollywood Unlocked Inspiration Award. Overall, the details on the hitmaker’s next album are extremely muddy.

All we can really assume right now is that those songs we mentioned are potential tracks for the project. We have no word on an artwork, features, a title, and most importantly, a release date. For now, fans of Cardi B are going to have to continue to sit around and wait patiently, although that is already highly unlikely. In fact, viewers of the 2024 BET Awards were hopelessly searching for any sort of clues about the tape. Cardi wore a bedazzled jersey with the number “11” on it and some were speculating that it could mean that CB2 is dropping in November on the 11th day of a random month.

Now with the 31-year-old superstar previewing some new music, the Bardigang will only continue to get more restless. Cardi B’s musical style is typically very aggressive and fiery, as she does not have too many slow and sensual cuts in her discography. However, she looking to experiment as evidenced by this clip from her Instagram Story. She asks her followers, “Yall like this vibe for CB2?”. The “Bodak Yellow” femcee lip syncs the lyrics to her full-on R&B snippet that sees her sing instead of rap. Her voice is heavily auto tuned, and some were criticizing how it does not even sound like her. Cardi B has not announced that this track is coming, at least for now.

What are your thoughts on this new song preview from Cardi B? Do you think she should continue to create more R&B songs like this going forward? Lucky Daye Firmly Sticks The Landing On Ambitious “Algorithm”

“I chose ‘Algorithm’ because I wanted to highlight what R&B was in my own algorithm. Everything I’ve ever heard that sounded like R&B to me, whether it was soul or blues. I wanted to bring it to life in my own way. This album from beginning to end is different versions of what I feel R&B is. It’s everything that makes me. I wanted to become one with the algorithm and with the music”. That is what Lucky Daye had to say to Clash in regard to the creative process behind Algorithm. This is the third studio album from the now mainstay in the modern field of R&B. However, this project does not feel all that contemporary.

It seems like the Louisiana native was going for an old-school aesthetic. If that is true, then he absolutely crushed it in that aspect. Amplifying that are the sick guitar solos, thick drums, and extremely soulful vocals. Overall, Lucky Daye did not leave any stone unturned. That is something he emphasized when crafting Algorithm, as he expressed how meticulous he was, especially this time through. “We are actual musicians, we’re the technical, nerdy, and scientific music makers. I love working with people like that. I understand that some people are here to entertain us, but I like working with real musicians”. We are of the belief that this is Lucky’s strongest outing to date, as even though he takes more risks in all aspects, the results are rewarding for all of the senses.

Jeremih Recruits Fellow R&B Stars Bryson Tiller & Chris Brown For “Wait On It”

Jeremih has been a major player figure in the R&B space for nearly a decade and a half. While he might not be as eager to release that much solo material anymore, he is back to remind folks why he is still a star. The way Jeremih is doing that is dropping a new single, “Wait On It”. However, he is not doing this by himself, as Bryson Tiller and Chris Brown are joining him for this single about being the sneaky link.

This is just the Chicago, Illinois native’s second solo release in the last year, with “Wait On It” superseding “Room”. That song also had two other guests, as Adekunle Gold and 2 Chainz were enlisted there. There is a slight chance that Jeremih is working toward a new album. If so, it would be the first since the 2022 rerelease of his mixtape, Late Nights With Jeremih. This single is also contributing to the strong years that Bryson Tiller and Chris Brown are having. The former is fresh off dropping his first studio album in four years, Bryson Tiller. Chris Breezy is carrying over momentum from the deluxe of his 2023 album 11:11 and his back-and-forth spat with Quavo.
