Sheff G is already getting back to making music following his release from prison on bail on Friday. He paid $1.5 million to the New York City Department of Corrections to get out. To promote upcoming music, he shared a teaser video of himself in the studio on Instagram, on Sunday.
“Free the guys,” he captioned the post. “Rip the guys, NY WE BACK EVERYTHING LITT. EVERYTHING LITT DROPPING SOON ALL NEW HEAT COMING SOOONN I PROMISE. Sheff G was arrested in 2023 as one of 32 alleged gang members indicted for shootings and other crimes. The story of G. Dep is unlike that of any other rhymer, which is exactly why we’re so curious to see what’s next for the former Bad Boy artist. As HipHopDX reports, Trevell Coleman was signed to Diddy’s label in the late ’90s. He only got to show us a small bit of his lyrical talent before he went away to prison. In late 2023 he was one of just over a dozen people who New York Governor Kathy Hochul granted clemency. At the time, Dep became eligible for parole years sooner than before, and he was finally released today (April 4).
His official Instagram page has been keeping followers up to date with the latest, from the prison gates to Coleman’s first meal as a free man. The 49-year-old’s family was happy to pick him up at Fishkill Correctional Facility in upstate NY. At the time, they emotionally greeted him with a prayer circle.
Before the clemency grant, Dep was unable to petition the parole board until the 15-year mark of his sentence for the 1993 murder of John Henkel. It wasn’t until 2010 that the “Special Delivery” artist turned himself in, but his heartfelt apology and the work he’s done to change his life behind bars helped prove that he’s worthy of a second chance at life.
Rather than reporting on constant arrests, it’s a welcome break to hear so many stories of incarcerated artists coming home. Hip-hop heads were somewhat shocked by this decision. They’ve been even more surprised to see how recklessly the Florida native has moved at times since. He’s been arrested for things like drug possession and trespassing in recent years. The former unfortunately landed him behind bars before 2023 came to a close. At the time, Yak was accused of having cocaine on his person. Thanks to attorney Bradford Cohen’s tireless work, the judge agreed that it was Oxycodone – a medication that the rhymer has a prescription for.
After the charges were dropped Black still wasn’t immediately released. On Wednesday (February 21), cameras caught footage of the controversial entertainer on his way home. Yak eager to reconnect with his loved ones and get back to business as usual in the studio. Elsewhere, he’s also expecting his fourth child to arrive later this week. Baby mama Maranda Johnson, who the “Love & War” artist already shares a two-year-old daughter with, has been holding it down in his absence, and her Instagram is full of stunning maternity photos pleading with authorities to free her baby daddy.
As XXL notes, Cohen spoke about his famous client’s release in a statement on social media yesterday. “In [typical] Kodak fashion, he just pledged to donate to the college fund of a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old, whose father was a Minnesota officer killed recently in the line of duty,” the attorney praised Yak. “Expecting his 2nd son this Friday, he knows how important family is and hopes it helps relieve some burden.” Besides the unborn addition to his family with Johnson, Black already has two other children.

He even claims to be in talks with NBA YoungBoy about a collab, though further details of the project have yet to be announced.

It’s no secret that B.G.’s been pushing for a Hot Boys reunion since he was released from prison late last year, and luckily, it looks like Lil Wayne is open to the idea. During a recent appearance on YG’s 4HUNNID podcast, he revealed what it would take to get a reunion tour underway. According to him, only a few logistical issues are holding them back.
“We’ve spoken about it a few times but, you know, they have situations. Like B.G. just coming home so he gotta figure out: can he tour? Can he travel? And things like that,” he explained. “Juvie ready and Turk ready, but really we gotta see if Geezy can move around.”
While Lil Wayne says that the hold-up is due to B.G., he’s been the most vocal proponent of a reunion by far. Shortly after calling Weezy a “b*tch” on “Gangstafied” with Finesse2tymes, he took to Instagram Live to clear things up. “I tell a n***a I love him and call him a b***h all in the same sentence, man,” he described. “You know what I’m saying? Oscar Pistorius has been confirmed to have left the prison in South Africa where he has spent the last nine years. Pistorius left the prison early on January 5 and was secretly transported to his uncle’s mansion as authorities looked to avoid the throngs of media outside the prison. The national Department of Corrections later released a two-sentence statement that confirmed Pistorius had been released and was now classified as a “parolee”.
However, he will not be able to leave the neighborhood of Pretoria he is set to live in, must attend anger management counseling, and perform community service. “Parole does not mean the end of the sentence. It is still part of the sentence. It only means the inmate will complete the sentence outside a correctional facility,” the spokesperson told ESPN in November 2023. Pistorius became eligible for parole as he had served at least half his given sentence.

The family of Reeve Steenkamp, Pistorius’ girlfriend whom he murdered on Valentine’s Day 2013, did not oppose his parole when it was announced last year. Steenkamp’s mother said she “did not have the energy to face him” at a parole hearing. However, “I do not believe Oscar’s version that he thought the person in the toilet was a burglar. In fact, I do not know anybody who does. My dearest child screamed for her life. I believe he knew it was Reeva,” the statement read by Steenkamp family friend Rob Matthews continued. Matthews’ daughter was murdered in 2004 and he has since become a close friend of the Steenkamp family.
As mentioned, Pistorius is expected to spend the foreseeable future at his uncle’s mansion in a wealthy neighborhood of Pretoria. Little is known about Pistorius’ time in jail. Despite this, his father claims that he held regular Bible study for his fellow prisoners. However, Pistorius also required medical treatment during his incarceration. It is believed he was assaulted by a fellow prisoner regarding an argument about a prison telephone.
Earlier this week, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was finally released from prison after serving nearly eight years for her role in her mother’s murder. Now 32 years old, Gypsy Rose has already made a splash in the short time she’s been free, celebrating with a fun Instagram selfie on Friday. The public has rallied around Gypsy Rose amid her release, which has re-sparked plenty of debate surrounding her 2016 conviction.

Unfortunately, however, Missouri authorities recently ordered her to get out of the area as they believe her presence poses a “security risk.” According to TMZ, Gypsy Rose is disappointed, but just grateful to be free. She also reportedly understands authorities’ decision, as she’s gotten a ton of attention since her release. She even recently visited Burger King, taking photos with fans that have since gone viral.
Public support for Gypsy Rose has translated to her social media presence as well. Her various pages have seen a notable uptick in followers in recent days. Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison earlier this week after spending nearly eight years behind bars, and to celebrate, she hopped on Instagram to share her “First selfie of freedom.” The now 32-year-old woman’s highly disputed case has been thrust back into the spotlight amid her release, sparking further debate surrounding her conviction. Famously, Gypsy Rose’s mother Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard is said to have had Munchausen syndrome by proxy. She convinced her daughter and medical professionals that Gypsy Rose suffered from various physical and developmental disabilities for years, despite her being perfectly healthy. This resulted in frequent unnecessary and often painful procedures and treatments.
Years into the abuse, Gypsy Rose met a man named Nicholas Godejohn online, and they eventually developed a romantic relationship. She later enlisted his help to escape her mother’s mistreatment. “I wanted to be free of her hold on me,” she said during her former secret lover’s trial. “I talked him into it.” In June of 2015, Godejohn ventured to Springfield where Gypsy Rose and her mother lived, and stabbed Dee Dee Blanchard to death.
“That B*** is dead!” Gypsy Rose posted on Facebook before her mother’s body was discovered, bearing 17 stab wounds. She pled guilty to second-degree murder in July of 2016 and was later sentenced to 10 years. Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison. Gypsy Rose is now on parole and has been met with an outpouring of love and support from peers as she navigates her newfound freedom.

Angela White, formerly known as Blac Chyna, rose to prominence in the Miami strip club scene, later catapulting to stardom as a video vixen. Eventually, she landed as a businesswoman/ reality star, known in part for her high-profile relationships with Tyga and Rob Kardashian. The D.C. native took quite a journey to get to where she is now, at one point becoming nearly synonymous with the surgically enhanced appearance popularized in the 2010s. This year, however, White decided to go back to her roots, reversing some of her cosmetic procedures and transforming her look dramatically.
Nowadays, the mother of two prioritizes keeping her body healthy, focusing on fitness, and celebrating over one year sober. On top of her physical transformation, White has also leaned into her faith since converting to Christianity in 2022. Ultimately, she decided that sex work is no longer for her, and has opted to let her religion guide her life from now on. While there’s nothing wrong with sex work or cosmetic procedures, White told Page Six that she feels “the best [she’s] felt [her] whole life” since her turnaround. Fans love to see White in her bag her way, reaping the rewards of securing icon status early on.

Gunna got out of prison at the end of last year, following a sweeping indictment that saw the arrest of him, along with 24 other YSL affiliates, Young Thug included. He signed a plea deal on the day of his release, prompting countless fans and peers to speculate that he turned his back on his co-defendants. As Young Thug remains behind bars, the Georgia hip-hop star has been a major target for “snitching” allegations, which he’s seemingly denied multiple times in his music.
He dropped his album A Gift & a Curse back in June, hinting at the rumors being false on various tracks. The album has performed well, and managed to earn him back some respect among listeners. It even scored him a nomination at the 2024 Grammys, notably hushing his critics. Not everyone is back on Gunna’s team these days, but in a genre where loyalty rules, his turnaround is impressive, to say the least.

This year, B.G. became a free man after spending over a decade behind bars on gun and conspiracy charges. The 43-year-old hasn’t wasted any time since his release, reuniting with old friends and collaborators following his lengthy prison stay. He’s already dropped projects with Boosie Badazz, Mike WiLL Made-It, and more, and is only looking forward to adding to his discography. He even told 2 Chainz back in September that he’s planning on unleashing “seven, eight” albums in the near future, wanting nothing else but to “flood the streets” with new music.
While surely his turnaround hasn’t been easy, the New Orleans-born hip-hop artist seems to have a solid support system of people who want him to succeed. At this point, aside from releasing music, B.G. is focused on keeping on the straight and narrow, ensuring that he won’t be returning to the lifestyle that landed him in prison. “I’m not letting nobody rob me of my productivity, prosperity, positivity and peace of mind,” he told followers in September. “13 years was more [than] enough time for me to change the reckless path I was on.“
This year, Chrisean Rock welcomed her first child Chrisean Jr. with her ex Blueface. The new mother has been a frequent target of criticism pertaining to her parenting skills, relationships, and more. While she continues to go back and forth with the “Thotiana” performer online and engage in some other questionable behavior now and then, there’s no doubt that there’s been a notable turnaround in the Baddies star’s lifestyle.
On top of caring for Jr., Chrisean has also called on her faith in recent months, and continually expresses a desire to do better for the sake of her child. Nowadays, the Baltimore hip-hop artist seems to do her best to avoid the pitfalls she’s been victim to in the past, moving towards a more stable future for herself and her little one. Chrisean isn’t always successful when it comes to dodging controversy, but fans can agree that the addition of her son to her life has been overwhelmingly positive.
