Meek Mill Asks How People Listen To His Music In South Africa & Nigeria

Meek Mill recently took to X, formerly Twitter, to ask a question about his African fanbase. “Do a lot of people play my music in South Africa I remember having on big show their few years back … how do yall listen to our music in South Africa???? On what platform or in Nigeria?” the Philly rapper mused. Meek has performed several times in Africa, as he alluded to in his tweet.

Of course, he was quickly mocked for what many saw as an ignorant tweet. It might be that people misinterpreted the tweet as Meek being unaware that African is more developing than it is often depicted as. “Remember. Celebrities are dumb, just like you,” one person commented. According to available data, Spotify is the most popular streaming platform in South Africa. Meanwhile, the African-centric platform Boomplay is the most popular platform in Nigeria.

Meek Mill’s “Cougar Fantasy” Takes Over Social Media

However, this is not the first time that Meek has gone viral. In November 2023, Meek told social media about one of his deepest fantasies. “I want an older rich freaky bad cougar…it’s my fantasy,” the 36-year-old rapper wrote. While X users were initially stunned, they quickly rallied to turn the post into one of the weekend’s biggest talking points. Several people took it as an opportunity to shoot their shot. “I’m 58 [heart eyes emoji],” one user replied.

However, the majority of replies fell into two distinct categories. First, there were people clowning on Meek for his horny posting. “Meek back in his insane tweeting bag,” one account wrote. Furthermore, many people replied with various highlighting their discomfort at the post. The second set of replies, other than people simply agreeing with Meek, were those making suggestions of “cougars” that Meek could pursue. Oprah, Kris Jenner, and even Hilary Clinton could all be found as recommendations for the rapper in the replies.

Oscar Pistorius Released From Prison

Oscar Pistorius has been confirmed to have left the prison in South Africa where he has spent the last nine years. Pistorius left the prison early on January 5 and was secretly transported to his uncle’s mansion as authorities looked to avoid the throngs of media outside the prison. The national Department of Corrections later released a two-sentence statement that confirmed Pistorius had been released and was now classified as a “parolee”.

However, he will not be able to leave the neighborhood of Pretoria he is set to live in, must attend anger management counseling, and perform community service. “Parole does not mean the end of the sentence. It is still part of the sentence. It only means the inmate will complete the sentence outside a correctional facility,” the spokesperson told ESPN in November 2023. Pistorius became eligible for parole as he had served at least half his given sentence.

Family Of Oscar Pistorius Victim Speak On Athlete’s Parole

The family of Reeve Steenkamp, Pistorius’ girlfriend whom he murdered on Valentine’s Day 2013, did not oppose his parole when it was announced last year. Steenkamp’s mother said she “did not have the energy to face him” at a parole hearing. However, “I do not believe Oscar’s version that he thought the person in the toilet was a burglar. In fact, I do not know anybody who does. My dearest child screamed for her life. I believe he knew it was Reeva,” the statement read by Steenkamp family friend Rob Matthews continued. Matthews’ daughter was murdered in 2004 and he has since become a close friend of the Steenkamp family.

As mentioned, Pistorius is expected to spend the foreseeable future at his uncle’s mansion in a wealthy neighborhood of Pretoria. Little is known about Pistorius’ time in jail. Despite this, his father claims that he held regular Bible study for his fellow prisoners. However, Pistorius also required medical treatment during his incarceration. It is believed he was assaulted by a fellow prisoner regarding an argument about a prison telephone.

South African Rapper Costa Titch Deceased After Collapsing On Music Festival Stage

The rap world mourns the loss of South African rapper Costa Titch, who tragically passed away after collapsing on stage at the Ulta music festival in Johannesburg on Saturday (March 11). Titch, real name Constantinos Tsobanoglou, passed at the age of 28. Moreover, his record label, friends, and family issued a statement regarding his loss. Even with all the hype around music festivals, especially after COVID, audiences must know that safety is still the top priority. Considering the tragedies that have occurred at live settings, this news is heartbreaking for fans and loved ones.

“Death has tragically knocked at our door,” the statement read. “Robbing us of our beloved son, brother and grandson, Constantinos Tsobanoglou (28), who South Africa had come to love and idolize under his stage name ‘Costa Titch’. It is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge his passing at this time. We are thankful for the emergency responders and all those present in his last hours on this earth. As a family we are faced with a difficult time as we try to make sense of what has befallen us and ask that we be afforded the time and space to gather ourselves.

“The Tsobanoglou family thanks you for the love and support you have given to our son and may you continue to uplift him even in spirit,” the statement continued. “Please keep us in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord.” On social media, many lamented that Western media only covers international artists when they pass, not for their present work. Tragically, however, this is yet another instance of a sudden death in the South African music community.

Rapper AKA was fatally shot outside of a restaurant, just weeks before he was set to drop a new album. Moreover, said incident occurred in February and shook not only his fans and family but the larger musical scene there. As rap fans, the community hopes that the South African rap world heals and strides in a more positive and uplifting direction after such loss. Rest In Peace Costa Titch.

MrBeast Responds To Polarizing South Africa Charity Video On Twitter

MrBeast’s latest charity video, gifting 20,000 kids in South Africa their first pair of shoes, drew some controversy and even a response from the content creator on Twitter. Moreover, the YouTube sensation is known for his charity videos, of which recent high-profile example was helping 1,000 blind people see. As charitable and good-natured as these videos seem, many online believe that such acts are performative. However, such backlash paired with a seemingly equal number of defensive responses from fans. In fact, the social media star responded to this most recent South Africa video addressing his detractors.

“Just a reminder for those of you that don’t normally watch this channel,” he tweeted. “Beast Philanthropy is a charity we run and all the revenue from these videos goes towards running our food pantries and helping people around the world. Our charity owns this channel, I thought it’d be fun to use my fame to create a loop of helping. Film good deed, inspire millions of kids to do good, use revenue from good deed to do next good deed.”

Meanwhile, people on Twitter expressed a variety of emotions. Many pointed out that these charitable videos just add to more exposure, promotion, and revenue for an already rich content creator. On the other hand, many just took the gesture as heartfelt, effective, and overall positive. Overall, consensus online points in two directions: distrust of his business and content model or complacency with its positive impact. It’s something that celebrities, especially MrBeast, have to handle all the time with philanthropy and speaking on social issues. However, the conversation around this channel in particular is almost exhausting at this point.

After all, he won Favorite Male Creator at the 2023 Kids’ Choice Awards, which is a lot of his main demographic. Increased attention and conversation surrounding his charitable efforts is only going to further promote it, however negative it may be. With that in mind, at least MrBeast is doing something good for others, which takes precedence over any public image. Regardless of your take, check out reactions down below and return to HNHH for more big news on MrBeast.

South African rapper AKA passed away on Friday (February 10) after a shooting in his home country. According to various reports circling around the media, AKA and another unidentified person sustained multiple gunshot wounds outside of a nightclub in Durban. Moreover, police haven’t identified a motive for the shooting, although they gave a bit more details. “I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper,” said police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said, per New24. “Police will not [release] any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed.”

AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, passed shortly after culprits gunned him down near a popular nighttime spot. ALS paramedic Garrith Jamieson spoke to TimesLIVE about what occurred when medical assistance got to the scene. “On arrival, paramedics met total chaos and a scene where two men, believed to be in their late 30s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” he stated. “Paramedics assisted the men and unfortunately the first male sustained multiple gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life and declared deceased at the scene.”

Furthermore, paramedics found the second victim in critical condition and were unable to save them. This news is all the more tragic when you consider Forbes had much to look forward to in life. For example, AKA planned to release a new album titled Mass Country on February 24th. Also, his work included collaborations with the likes of Burna Boy and Nasty C during his career. The late rapper lives on through his music and his daughter, Kairo. While he never became the biggest star, he was well on his way to breaking into the U.S. markets. Moreover, Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur recently voice his sadness for the loss and reflected on an interview they did for AllHipHop.

“I cannot believe they took AKA from us,” Jigsaw wrote on Twitter. “He was such good energy. He was one of the few rappers I let my daughter meet when she was young. When he came to the states, I made sure I interviewed him for @AllHipHopcom. He was incredibly dope. #RIPAKA.”
Rest In Peace AKA.
