Unfortunately, due to ongoing legal woes, Polo G hasn’t been able to fulfill a promise him made to fans back in August 2023. Well, that’s until now. After several unforeseen delays, the “Sorrys & Ferraris” rapper’s long-awaited album, Hood Poet, finally has an official release date.

Today (July 30), Polo G took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal the exciting news. “Hood Poet, August 9th,” he wrote. “The wait finally Over 🖤🖤.”

That information alone would have been sufficient. But after nearly a year of setbacks, Polo treated his followers to a bit more. “Plus, me and Smurk this Friday #weuhshoot,” he wrote.

A fresh collaboration between Lil Durk and Polo G set users online off.

“Finally getting my therapy collab, Polo G X Lil Durk yaayyyy🕺,” wrote one user.

The forthcoming single will mark the project’s forth singles, following “Barely Holdin’ On,” “Distraction,” and “Angels In The Sky.”

According to the promotional graphic, Polo G shared alongside the newly unveiled artwork, Hood Poet will feature guest appearances by GloRilla, Future, Offset, G Herbo, 42 Dugg, Hunxho, The Kid LaRoi, and Fridayy.

According to the tracklist uploaded to Apple Music, Hood Poet has a total of 18 tracks. With a release date formerly locked in, fans have one question—is a tour in the works?

Hood Poet is out on 8/9 via Columbia. Find more information here.

Wack 100 Weighs In On Polo G’s Beef With DJ Vlad

Wack 100 and DJ Vlad talked about several things in a new interview for Vlad’s YouTube channel. One of the topics that arose this time was Polo G. Specifically, Polo G’s issues with DJ Vlad. Police arrested Polo G at a Manhattan hotel for possession of a loaded firearm in April. His brother, Trench Baby, reportedly committed multiple crimes. Polo G previously referred to DJ Vlad as “the Feds” for some of his interview questions. Fans referring to Vlad as “the Feds” or as a “snitch” are the most persistent critiques of Vlad’s channel. Their tension culminated with a FaceTime call where Polo demanded to meet Vlad face-to-face, which Vlad declined.

In the new clip with Wack 100, Vlad emphasized his concern about Polo G’s livelihood. Vlad listed nineteen rappers he interviewed who’ve since died. Some were murdered, others died of other causes. Vlad pointed out the path Polo and his associates seem to be on. He remarked about having to bring his own gun to a meeting with Polo, since he and his brother still have one foot in the streets. Wack100 agreed with Vlad, drawing parallels to infamous family feuds.

Wack 100 Reacts To Polo G And DJ Vlad

“What they don’t realize, Vlad, is that you’ve been in the game for 16, 17 years. You’ve seen a hundred different scenarios that ended in jail, death, someone in a wheelchair, someone else being killed, said Wack 100. “You’re mimicking these nineteen people that [Vlad] interviewed that did exactly what you’re doing, and it ended in a tragic death.”

The authorities arraigned Polo G at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse in April 2024. A maid discovered a black Glock on the loveseat while she was cleaning his room at the Dominick Hotel in SoHo. The criminal complaint said the gun had one bullet ready to go and nine additional bullets loaded. He was also arrested on a weapons charge in August 2023, after police raided his home and found “numerous firearms.” Polo postponed his fourth album, Hood Poet, after the August arrest, and he has not announced a new release date. Maybe Wack 100 can mediate a conversation between Polo G and DJ Vlad.

Polo G’s Past Lives Meet In The Reflective ‘Angels In The Sky’ Video

To be so young, Chicago rapper Polo G has been through a lot in his life. In the video for his new song “Angels In The Sky,” Polo appears to have been committed to a psychiatric hospital, where he watches his past videos on a TV that’s probably older than he is. Each version of him from those videos is pulled out of their reality and time and brought to a holding cell, where they confront each other at a table, until the contemporary Polo enters to reconcile these past lives.

Polo is currently in the midst of his revamped rollout for Hood Poet, which will be his fourth album since 2019 and his breakout with “Pop Out.” Initially announced in August 2023, Polo delayed the album after being arrested on charges of kidnapping, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon. He relaunched his campaign in February with the video for “Sorrys & Ferraris,” but was again derailed in April after being arrested for possession of a firearm in New York.

As of this writing, Hood Poet still has an August release date; with the “Angels In The Sky” video, it seems like the rollout is still on schedule.

Polo G Premieres Long-Awaited Music Video for “Angels In The Sky”

Polo G Gets Reflective On Hard-Hitting Single “Angels In The Sky”

Polo G makes somber music. The rapper sounds grim even when he’s making a viral hit like “Martin & Gina” or a party anthem like “Flex.” Part of it is his inflection, but the other part is perspective. Polo has been through a lot over the years. He nearly overdosed on fentanyl in 2019, and he’s been arrested on multiple occasions during the 2020s. These experiences come through in his songs, and “Angels In the Sky” is proof that when Polo G is on his game, few make trap music with as much authenticity.

“Angels In the Sky” doesn’t sound all that different from Polo’s previous single, “Barely Holdin’ On,” but when something isn’t broken, there’s nothing to fix. There’s more of an emphasis on “Barely Holdin’ On” than there is on “Angels In the Sky,” and the latter actually benefits from its straightforward deliver. The song opens with an ominous, echoed loop before launching into a hard-hitting soundscape for Polo G’s bars. It would be an understatement to call the rapper’s lyrics intense. “And I can’t reveal the way I really feel, it’s hard to try. Heard the opps, they want me dead because I’m dissin’, tellin’ lies,” he raps. “Feeling mutual, stuff bullets in that SIG and let it fly. Execute him, headshot, knock his brains up out his eye.”

Polo G Rhymes About His Personal Struggles

The chorus of the song speaks to Polo G’s struggle to express himself. “Lot of sh*t I’m goin’ through, no, they don’t understand,” he raps, with a more melodic cadence. “I was walkin’ through the trenches with my gun in hand. I know losses come with the gang, but that wasn’t the plan.” The severeness of the beat and the lyrics and compounded by the excellent music video. The rapper is depicted wearing a hospital gown, and watching a TV in what appears to be a locked room. The viewer is then shown images of him being questioned by the police, overdosing on pills, and being overwhelmed with adoring fans. The new Polo G album is not going to be an easy listen, but it’s definitely going to be impactful.

What are your thoughts on “Angels In the Sky” by Polo G? Is this his best single yet? Do you like it more than “Barely Holdin’ On”? Are you excited for Polo’s comeback album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Polo G. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Quotable Lyrics:

Ballin’ like Tim Duncan, win or lose, I’m with my team forever
Got the same scars, we took them Ls on Evergreen together
Never understood my point of view because I seen it better
I couldn’t be right back in that cell, stressin’, readin’ letters
Nina and my Wesson like a duet, they gon’ sing together
Like to slide at night, put that .40 and that beam together

According to New York’s PIX11, Polo G was arrested on gun charges on April 10 at The Dominick Hotel in Manhattan, according to the New York Police Department. A search warrant was executed at the hotel and the rapper was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a loaded firearm.

The New York Post reports a maid who was cleaning the room found the gun, a Glock. Police were then called to the hotel and found the gun on a loveseat. There was a bullet in the chamber and nine in the magazine.

In a plea for no bail, Polo G’s attorney Stacey Richman said, “This man is 100% serious in terms of his work, in terms of his professionalism. He has absolutely no incentive to flee because he has a career he’s built.”

The rapper was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court and hit with a $25,000 cash bail, which he posted. His next court date is June 4, where he’ll be allowed to appear virtually.

Meanwhile, the rapper is currently preparing to release a new album, Hood Poet. The project was originally set to drop in September 2023, but Polo ultimately ended up deciding to delay the project, saying, “I’mma be postponing my album drop ’til further notice. Just getting back on track from a minor setback… it’ll be worth the wait. I promise.”

Polo G Talks Mental Health And The Pressure Of Being A Rap Superstar

It’s not easy being a superstar. The emotional and physical toll it can have on a person is unclear until it’s too late, which is something fans have seen debilitate dozens of their favorite artists. Polo G was on track to become a household name, but the spotlight proved to be too bright. He took a step back for the sake of his mental health and the well-being of his family. The rapper talked about his monumental decision during a recent interview with Kurrco.

Polo G didn’t mince words when it came to his reasoning for taking a break. “I feel like I took a three year break after being scorching hot,” the rapper told Kurrco. He noted that the multi-year break was not an intentional one, as he was forced to navigate a lot of personal situations, but that it ultimately proved to be something he needed. Polo G also admitted that he found it difficult to stop making music, since it had been the driving force in his life up to that point. “That’s like my baby,” he admitted. “I always want to be in tune and connected with my fans.”

Polo G Is Eager To Prove Himself Again

Polo G considered this hiatus the hardest thing he’s had to do. “That s**t really f***ed with my mental, a lot,” he asserted. The rapper’s desire to open up in a public space was only made possible, however, by his decision to get back in the game. “Everything that I did accomplish, I don’t feel like it’s enough,” he added. “Everybody want me to prove myself.” The interview ends with the interviewer joking about all that Polo has accomplished. “Even with 14 cars in the driveway?!” he asks, before both parties start laughing.

Polo G’s comeback is already underway. The rapper has announced plans to release Hood Poet in August 2024. The album has been in the works for several years, with the lead single, “Distraction”, dropping way back in June 2022. The single peaked at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, which is impressive for most but underwhelming for a rapper with a number one hit under his belt. It’s time for Polo to prove that he’s still got what it takes to excel.
