Beyonce Fans Are Livid After “COWBOY CARTER” Gets Zero Country Music Awards Nominations

Beyonce’s COWBOY CARTER is one of 2024’s big pop culture moments, due in part to the genre conversation that it created. Moreover, it wasn’t the first time that music listeners debated over Black erasure in country music and how racial bias impacts stereotypical stylistic categorization. However, it was probably the biggest discussion on this topic in a while, and it just got a whole lot spicier. Moreover, this year’s Country Music Awards did not nominate the album nor its artist for a single award despite it being one of the highest-grossing country projects of the year. Not even some of the LP’s biggest hits could get some love.

Of course, the Beyhive is absolutely outraged by this, although it’s sadly not very surprising considering the contentious genre dynamics we referred to earlier. But COWBOY CARTER and Beyoncé definitely deserved at least something. This is all pretty ironic because, while the CMAs refuse to acknowledge her work, folks like Donald Trump still try to use her music for their own gain. It’s a cyclical and parasitic relationship sometimes, but the Texas native is big enough to where she can sidestep a lot of these consequences.

Beyonce Gets Snubbed By CMAs

Elsewhere, another source of outrage for Beyoncé fans was KAYTRANADA’s recent comments on her. “Sometimes people don’t see your worth and how important you are. I know what I mean to people,” he said during an interview of her efforts to own the rights to his “CUFF IT” remix. “Mannnn I didn’t drag her that’s just what happened,” KAYTRA clarified online. “The remix didn’t get a release and it is what it is but later that year I opened [for] her on tour AND on her Bday on top of that. Now what? I love that girl & y’all ain’t gonna make me look like I ain’t rocking with her.”

Meanwhile, Beyonce also got some criticism from Azealia Banks recently (a shocker, we know) over her whiskey brand. “I’m sorry Beyonce I love you down,” she tweeted. “But ‘SIRDAVIS’ is a horrible name for a luxury spirits brand. Its so ghetto. Its giving 1980’s hood francophile ‘Latoya, Shaniqua’ teas. Change the name to ‘Renaissance.’ That’s actually a marketing slay. Renaissance whisky gives me classy successful handsome older black man with the good cologne & the good teeth/ spent $500,000 buying out some superbowl box seats / expensive legacy d**k. ‘Sir Davis’ is giving southern comfort/ e&J with some matted dreads and dry knuckles.”

Laila! & Queen Naija Take The Reins On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

Welcome to autumn, where the influx of new R&B-related tracks isn’t slowing down. Moreover, we’ve got our latest R&B Season playlist update here to round up the best of the best around the genre that came out this week. This time around, we wanted to first shout out the new Laila! album, Gap Year! It’s a 17-track of some really funky and lush bedroom pop mixed with R&B-style vocal melodies, infectious basslines, airy deliveries, and a lot of fun-loving charisma. As one of the rising stars within the game this year, she’s displaying her versatile talents even more here thanks to excellent cuts such as “Want 2.”

On a more classic R&B tip, we have the new Queen Naija single “Good Girls Finish Last.” It’s another example of acoustic guitar balladry, but the earthy percussion pattern does a lot to separate it from the more sad and down-trodden style associated with that archetype. Some harmonious backing vocals and a tight lovelorn narrative also help to center this track into more of its own identity. If you’re looking for some tender jams this week to soothe you, then this should be right up your alley.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist: Stream

Another project we wanted to highlight on this R&B Season update is RINI’s new seven-tracker, Lucky 7. Its sonic character is mostly built around dreamy guitar tones, softly buzzing bass, crips drums, and an overall atmospheric approach to indie and R&B fusions. One particular standout is “Far Away,” whose chime embellishments and measured vocal approach closes the project out quite well. But don’t let that fool you: the rest is just as worth it.

Finally, we’d be remiss not to mention the genre-fusing full-length from Fred again.., ten days. While not all of it takes influence from R&B, as it’s mostly an electronic experience, “fear less” with Sampha is among its most interesting and well-developed experiments. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season inclusion was this week, as well as what else we missed, down in the comments section below. As always, stick around on HNHH for the latest music drops around the clock.

Queen Naija Laments How “Good Girls Finish Last” On New Single: Stream

Even Big Meech is a big fan of Queen Naija’s music, and her R&B sensibilities should make that come as no surprise. Moreover, she just released another helping of that with the tender “Good Girls Finish Last” single, a guitar-led ballad about finally realizing that you need to get out of a relationship where your love isn’t being validated. Thanks to some heavenly backing harmonies and a simple but crisp percussion pattern, this is one of those last rays of summer sun before autumn fully sets in.

It’s actually been some time since we’ve heard from Queen Naija in a more lengthy fashion, whether in a collaborative or solo sense. Her last non-song release on her own was the November EP After The Butterflies, which had some standout cuts like “No Fake Love” with NBA YoungBoy. Maybe the near future will hold another album or shorter project that this and other possible singles could lead up to. But at the end of the day, we won’t know until it happens.

With that in mind, we look forward to hearing more gentle and captivating material from the “Let’s Talk About It” singer. If you haven’t heard Queen Naija’s “Good Girls Finish Last” yet, find it on your preferred streaming service or check it out on YouTube below. Down there, you can also find some notable lines and the comments section for you to leave your thoughts on the record. As always, come back to HNHH for more great music releases around the clock.

Rihanna Steals The Show At New York Fashion Week To Praise Fenty Beauty’s Creative Director

Rihanna ruffled some feathers online when she seemed to ignore Naomi Campbell at New York Fashion Week recently, but it wasn’t all doom and gloom. Moreover, she went to Daily Front Row’s NYFW Fashion Media Awards to present the Magazine of the Year award to her good friend and Fenty Beauty’s creative director, Jahleel Weaver (as well as his partner Katie Grand, who works with him on Perfect Mag). RiRi donned a $20,000 pink coat over a sheer dress and, with a glass in her hand, gave a speech in Weaver’s honor. “I got called for this less than 36 hours ago,” she remarked. “I wrote this speech in the car because it’s my friend, and I have to show up for my friend.”

Elsewhere, Rihanna is making a lot of other big moves in the worlds of fashion, style, and related endeavors. For example, she recently starred in her first Dior perfume ad, expanding her wealth of product partnerships and potential business opportunities. The Barbadian superstar may not have R9 ready for fans yet, but it’s clear that she built an empire that’s almost larger than her current musical legacy. That’s a tough conversation, though, and it’s obvious that she not only treasures her art very deeply, but that it’s the origin of all her success and creativity.

Rihanna At Daily Front Row’s Fashion Awards For NYFW

But more than all that, Rihanna is happiest to be part of a beautiful family with A$AP Rocky and their children. “It’s crazy how we find balance with our chaotic schedules,” the Harlem rapper recently expressed concerning their companionship. “[The relationship] is going great. I don’t think there’s a more perfect person because when the schedules are hectic, she’s very understanding of that. And when the schedule’s freed up, that’s when you get to spend [the] most time together. It’s all understanding and compatibility.”

In other Rihanna news, rumors are already starting about the new album and world tour arriving in 2025. Sadly, this is just what happened last year with the Super Bowl halftime show, and the year before that, and the year before that… But we’ll be patient. After all, with so much under her belt, we imagine that she only wants and needs to drop music when she really feels like it’s special.

The Weeknd Unveils Album Cover For “Hurry Up Tomorrow”

We are almost at the finish line, and as bittersweet as it is, it looks like The Weeknd will close out his trilogy – and moniker – with a bang. Moreover, he just unveiled the official album cover art for his new upcoming LP, Hurry Up Tomorrow. Much like its predecessors, After Hours and Dawn FM, it’s an image of the Canadian superstar’s face, but this one is much more “normal” and rudimentary compared to the blood-soaked and aged portraits of the aforementioned projects, respectively. As such, fans couldn’t be more excited to hear how these themes will wrap up with this third and final piece of the puzzle.

Furthermore, this adds to other Hurry Up Tomorrow details that The Weeknd shared with Billboard Brazil in their interview before his shows in the country this weekend. One of them is that he actually composed the “central song” of this new record in São Paulo. Abel Tesfaye also called something “Frankenstein,” and it’s a bit unclear if this is a nickname for the album as a whole or for this “central song” that the article mentions. Either way, this nickname indicates a fusion of a lot of different genres and sonic styles that still maintains a core and unmistakeable identity at its root.

The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow Cover Art

In addition, even though The Weeknd’s website doesn’t indicate a release date for this new album, we do have some hints as to when Hurry Up Tomorrow will come out. Well, we have one hint, to be honest. This is because of the physical pre-orders that he put up for this new LP, in addition to a pre-save option for digital streaming platforms. In the pre-order item description, it doesn’t indicate any release date. However, it does say that the physical copies will ship near the release date, which will apparently be no later than six months from today (Saturday, September 7). Hopefully he doesn’t take cues from his potential future collaborator Playboi Carti and actually drops the album.

Jokes aside, this rollout and piece-by-piece hype construction is very different to the Atlanta MC’s situation. Either way, we can’t wait to see what The Weeknd brings us next, especially with this artwork in mind. Will we get a more raw, simple, vulnerable, and definitive album building off of his mysterious, emotional, and trippy journey so far? Or can we not even fathom what’s in store right now? We can’t even tell which is the more exciting option.

Rihanna Catches Heat For Allegedly Ignoring Naomi Campbell At New York Fashion Week

Rihanna and Naomi Campbell have had beef rumors swirling around them for years now, none of which have really manifested into anything concrete. That being said, we don’t really blame folks for assuming that they don’t like each other given what little we have seen. For example, both superstars attended a New York Fashion Week event on Friday (September 6). The Dior partner went up to greet a man who was sitting right next to Campbell, and RiRi didn’t seem to acknowledge her at all. You can see this for yourself in the video down below, which many fans are treating as gospel.

Furthermore, for those unaware, Naomi Campbell denied that she and Rihanna had any sort of issues back in 2021. As for what the origin of this whole thing is, we’re not sure, although many assume that it’s just a competitive relationship in the worlds of media, fashion, and more. It’s far from Campbell’s only big-name celebrity interaction this year, though, which shouldn’t really be surprising considering her overwhelming fame. She sat front row with Kendrick Lamar (or rather, the other way around, since she’s the fashion icon here) for Chanel’s runaway earlier this year.

Rihanna & Naomi Campbell’s NYFW Interaction… Or Lack Thereof

Elsewhere, Rihanna doesn’t have to worry about people like Naomi Campbell when her husband A$AP Rocky is right there to sing her praises. “It’s crazy how we find balance with our chaotic schedules,” he told Billboard of their bond. “[The relationship] is going great. I don’t think there’s a more perfect person because when the schedules are hectic, she’s very understanding of that. And when the schedule’s freed up, that’s when you get to spend [the] most time together. It’s all understanding and compatibility.”

However, RiRi might have to make some major moves in her fashion-related businesses soon. Her CEO for Savage X Fenty quit after a year, instead taking a position at Victoria’s Secret. It’s unclear how this will impact Rihanna’s endeavors, and we still don’t have much news as to what the next steps are. If only there was a supermodel with decades of experience and plenty of style and business acumen to ask advice from…

Usher Turns His Stage Into A Strip Club For Brooklyn Tour Stop

Usher is stunning every crowd he greets on his “Past Present Future” tour, and is even inspiring the crowd to take over the show and sing for him. But it’s not just a concert: it’s a 4AM party in the waviest strip club in the city… Or at least, that’s the vibe he wants to create with each tour stop. Moreover, for the singer’s first Brooklyn show at the Barclays Center on Friday (September 6), he turned part of the stage into a strip club, complete with a pole for a dancer to use. Taraji P. Henson, Victoria Monét, and Yung Miami were right there to throw some cash and have fun with the performers.

Of course, this is nothing new for Usher, who did this exact sort of homage during his Vegas residency, his Super Bowl halftime show, and more. Also, it’s exactly the kind of extravagance and fun-loving raunch that we expect from him, so this isn’t all too surprising. While it doesn’t make it any less entertaining, we can’t help but wonder what the Dallas native will do next during this trek. We know that he’s taken his time to greet familiar faces and old friends in the crowds, so we hope that there’s more wholesome stuff on the way.

Usher’s Strip Club Stage For Brooklyn Show

Speaking of wholesome tour content, Usher also took some time during this Brooklyn show to shout out his “SOS (Sex On Sight)” collaborator, Victoria Monét. “Victoria, we love you, baby girl!” he told her in the stands before playing her hit song “On My Mama.” We can’t think of many other careers who have had a better past 48 months than the Atlanta native. So not only was this well-deserved, but we hope there’s more stuff like this to come.

All this being said, it’s not like every single part of this tour has been perfect. For example, after a particularly bizarre clip of Usher’s “Yeah!” performance went viral, people accused him of sending a clone onstage. It seems like the fanbase crossover between him and MF DOOM isn’t as small as you might think. Rest In Peace to The Villain.

The Weeknd Reveals Exciting Details About His Upcoming Album “Hurry Up Tomorrow”

A new interview with Billboard Brazil has shed light on The Weeknd’s upcoming show in São Paulo, his love of his Brazilian fanbase, mental health, and much more. But one of the most exciting parts of the conversation was the details that he spread around the piece about his next album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. This will not only close out Abel’s 2020s trilogy as the follow-up to After Hours and Dawn FM, but it will also apparently retire The Weeknd moniker as a creative project with one last hurrah. With all this excitement around this next full-length in mind, it’s no wonder that every little breadcrumb is leaving fans starving for more.

Furthermore, the first big detail to note is that The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow has a “central song,” according to Billboard. He apparently nicknamed it “Frankenstein” for how its sonic fusions didn’t take away from the essence of the record (although that might refer to HUT as a whole). The Canadian superstar reportedly composed it during his last São Paulo concert visit last October. Since then, he’s not only dropped a few collaborations, but his teases towards another Playboi Carti link-up and more have really energized fans’ excitement.

However, the most important revelation about Hurry Up Tomorrow was about the mind-state that The Weeknd created it in. “There is always pressure to surpass my last project,” he expressed. “Growth is important. Sometimes it may not be what people want to hear from me at the moment, but, when the body of work is complete, I hope they can appreciate what I have been trying to achieve. I have been working on this discography for a long time. It was all planned.”

Meanwhile, The Weeknd also spoke on his remarks about facing “the abyss” shortly after announcing this year’s Brazil visit. “It can mean many things,” he shared. “For me, it is something very specific,” he says in the interview, in a mysterious mood. “I faced it long enough. Most of the time, I overcame it. But I work on it every day. I hope that [my music] helps others face and overcome the abyss, too.” From what this all indicates, Hurry Up Tomorrow will be a deeply cathartic, vividly creative, and bittersweet experience. We’ll take ten copies, please.

Jeremy “JR” Robinson’s Alleged Side Chick Addresses Tamar Braxton’s Accusations

The relationship drama between former couple Tamar Braxton and Jeremy “JR” Robinson is getting even more heated up. Moreover, you probably already know that the former accused the latter of using her money to spend time with another woman. In fact, the singer even called out someone on social media by posting their page, claiming that they are the “side chick” in question. Well, it turns out that this alleged flame actually responded to the whole thing. She denied ever meeting JR, claiming that she never responded to his DMs and that she doesn’t want an apology from Braxton. “On Tuesday, this woman made some very, very false accusations against me and who you guys call the KFC man,” she began. “They’re untrue. [I] have never met this man in my life.

“This woman has called me a tramp, the infamous tramp,” the woman continued about Tamar Braxton. “And she’s insinuating that I have been having relations with her… Husband? Fiancée? I don’t know what it is. I didn’t know anything about the marriage. To my knowledge, nobody else knew. I don’t know. Jeremy getting on Live and addressing the fact that none of this was true obviously wasn’t enough for this woman to clear this whole situation up. So I am here to do so along with telling the real truth about this gentleman who is trying to play what I feel is both sides. She’s saying that this charge right here was made on the 30th of August. She claims that he was at the Four Seasons with me. False. And I’m going to show you guys why that is false.

Woman Roped Up In Tamar Braxton Drama Speaks Out

“Before I start showing these screenshots, I do want to say, Jeremy, you…” she added. “Sir, you have to be quicker than that. You tried to clean house of previous DMS that you sent me multiple times. Calling yourself sending, not getting a response, deleting, and then sending again. And now that all of this has blown up, you tried to get rid of them. So I’m going to show them. When this situation happened, I did message him. And I said: ‘Not sure what you and your fiancée have going on, but this is absolutely absurd. You and I both know that there’s no truth to this. We’ve never met before. This is also defamation as well. I would definitely clear this up with her if I were you. She has no clue the mistake she just made.’ As you guys can see, I sent this to him. This is a screenshot of the message that I sent him.

“[I’m not] open to accepting that apology because, at the end of the day, the damage is already done,” she concluded. “She did what she did. That’s something she should’ve done at the very beginning before, you know, taking this to social media. Now you have this woman on social media, you know, posting scriptures today. Like, ma’am… It’s a little too late. We’re not going to bring the Good Lord into this. We’re just not going to do that. So, yeah… Respectfully, Tamar, I’m praying for you. Get some help, love, get some help. I feel like you have bigger fish to fry. I mean, two failed marriages, you got fired from The Real, music not selling… Yeah. I’m sorry, okay, y’all, I’ma stop, I’ma stop. But yeah, that’s all I wanted to get on here and say, just to clear my name.”

Tommy Richman & Kehlani Shine Bright On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

Fall is officially upon us, and we have some fresh and exciting new music releases to round up on our latest R&B Season update. First up is the new project from Kehlani, following up her previous album this year with the anticipatory and vibe-filled While We Wait 2. If you’re looking for a particular highlight from this new record to get you started, we’d recommend “When He’s Not There” featuring Lucky Daye. Elsewhere, we also wanted to highlight the newest single from one of this year’s breakout stars: Tommy Richman’s “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE.” It’s a more melancholy and dramatic take on the formula that shot him up into superstardom on “MILLION DOLLAR BABY.”

Also on our R&B Season playlist update is the new single from Victoria Monét and Usher, “SOS (Sex On Sight).” If you’re in the need of more ’90s or 2000s-style R&B jams, then this classic and soulful take is exactly up your alley. However, there are plenty of other artists that could be characterized with this genre that aren’t only fusing it with many other sounds, but aren’t always making R&B in any way. One example is Fousheé, whose excellent new single “100 bux” is more of a guitar-led alternative jam.

Back to more traditional R&B vibes, though: Muni Long came through with her new album Revenge, and there are many songs that live up to this title. For example, “The Baddest” speaks on a tough relationship and on toxicity with a drama-filled string and snap beat, plus some ethereal vocal runs. Another mention on this playlist update is Mustafa’s new single ahead of his next album. The track is titled “Old Life,” and there’s a very palpable sense of nostalgia and tenderness that is captivating to witness.

Finally, we’d be remiss not to mention Freddie Gibbs’ remix of Leon Thomas’ “MUTT.” If you were already a fan of this bop, then the charismatic and fast-flowing Freddie verse just makes it all the more funky and vibrant. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season inclusion was this week, as well as what else we missed, down in the comments section below.
