Mariah The Scientist’s “From A Woman” Energizes Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

October’s starting to get chillier by the day, and what better way to heat yourself up than with our steamy R&B Season playlist update? Moreover, we complied the very best of the best new soulful releases of the week for your listening pleasure. Leading the pack is Mariah The Scientist’s new single “From A Woman,” which also got a companion piece from her boo, Young Thug. Of course, it’s quite the slow burn, with watery synths, soothing but understated vocals, and a steady and tension-building trap-inspired rhythm. Still, eventually she belts out and reaches for those higher notes with ease, and it’s a heartening and loyalty-based track.

Futhermore, the submerged and atmospheric tendencies of this R&B Season playlist update continue with each addition. Next up is Chxrry22 and Vory’s “Never Had This,” which is a little more menacing and slightly heavy than the previous cut in comparison. However, since both singers lean into the drama and into the fast-flowing thought processes on this cut, they share a lot of chemistry here. Most importantly, though, it creates an engaging contrast that doesn’t drain the track of its life or energy, which is a feat with a slower soundscape.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist: Stream

Another R&B Season highlight this week came courtesy of Layton Greene, whose gorgeous tone captures the spotlight on her new single “Something.” Even thought it’s the main draw of the song, this instrumental actually picks things up a little bit tempo and energy-wise on our playlist rotation. It’s a little more playfully lustful, and the extra percs and deep bass hits give it a stronger first-listen impact. In addition to all that, it might just be the catchiest main melody on this entire roster of new R&B releases this week.

Meanwhile, we have two more tracks to go through, both of which are pretty big collaborations. Bryson Tiller assisted Sy Ari Da Kid on “Priorities,” which is an ambient, low-key, but nonetheless vocally impressive song. Finally, the track “311!” not only evokes Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” quite tastefully, but the jazzy and tender song is quite the posse cut. Gallant, sneek, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and Keyon Harrold crafted quite the beautiful song to end this off. Let us know what your favorite release of the week was and what we missed down in the comments below. Check out our R&B Season playlist above and come back to HNHH for more great music each week.

Here’s What We Know About Young Thug & Mariah The Scientist’s Relationship

In May 2022, Young Thug and Gunna were among 28 YSL members arrested and “charged in a 56-count indictment,” including “charges of conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, murder, armed robbery, participation in criminal street gang activity” (as reported by Micheal Seiden at the time).

Young Thug was denied bond yet again in July, and the YSL RICO case is ongoing, but none of that has gotten in the way of Thug’s relationship with Mariah The Scientist. In January 2022, Mariah The Scientist self-directed her “Walked In” video featuring Young Thug, and it oozed lust. In the video, Mariah walks into a strip club already occupied by Gunna and Thug. “Took you long enough to express interest, but it’s a good thing you did,” she sings, and next thing we know, we’re at their wedding in a living room (Gunna serves as best man).

Fast forward to August 2023: Mariah addressed the state of their relationship before performing “Walked In” at Outside Lands. “You know I got a man,” she told the crowd. “He locked up. Free my baby daddy! When I say ‘free,’ you say ‘Thug.’” Days later, Mariah acknowledged Young Thug’s 32nd birthday by posting a photo to her Instagram Story of his “kids standing in front of a billboard that featured him” (as per Rap-Up).

Fast forward (again) to this week. On Monday (October 9), TMZ asked Mariah The Scientist, “Do people think you should break up with Young Thug?” Mariah responded, “They probably do, but I don’t give a f*ck. But, no, I love him, and I won’t be doing that. We’re great. We’re great.” Come Thursday (October 12), Mariah and Young Thug provided evidence as to how “great” they’re doing by teasing complementary singles: Thug’s “From A Man” and Mariah’s “From A Woman.”

As per Fader, Mariah The Scientist doubled down on her unwavering commitment in a statement released alongside “From A Woman,” saying, “[Jeffery] is someone who supports and respects my vision wholeheartedly. There is a true balance in my femininity and his masculinity. He’s the yang to my yin in every way.”

The videos for “From A Man” and “From A Woman” arrived on Friday (October 13). Watch them below.

Young Thug’s Confident ‘From A Man’ Is A Response To Mariah The Scientist’s Passionate ‘From A Woman’

Young Thug remains imprisoned during his and YSL’s ongoing Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) case, but it appears not even the most dire of circumstances can damper his love for Mariah The Scientist, who confirmed her relationship with Thug at Outside Lands in August by saying, “You know I got a man. He locked up. Free my baby daddy! When I say ‘free,’ you say ‘Thug’” (as captured by HipHopDX).

On Thursday (October 12), Mariah and Thug each posted an Instagram tease for their respective singles that are clearly interconnected. First, Young Thug announced “From A Man” with the single’s cover art, showing a man — makes sense, given the title — wearing black dress shoes with white socks. Around the same time, Mariah The Scientist unveiled her “From A Woman” cover art that features a woman wearing red high heels and tights. Both songs arrived at midnight.

The bouncy “From A Man” finds Young Thug, semi-fresh off his Business Is Business album, flexing his self-esteem (“If I ain’t one of the greats, then tell me who it is”) despite what he’s facing (“I done turned to a felon, I done stacked me some cheddar / I done turned my profits up, now I gotta perform at Coachella”), and peppers in some bars presumably about Mariah (“Real love inside me, got me comin’ home nightly / I fell in love with your thongs most likely / A real redbone tryna come wife me”).

Meanwhile, Mariah The Scientist’s “From A Woman” is a romantic slow jam in every sense. Her unwavering to Thug is evident in her sultry vocal delivery and lines like, “Won’t call you Slime ’cause it don’t fit / I see you as more than this / I bought dreams not to mention / You pay me back and then some.”

Young Thug’s Candy Crush Addiction Keeping Him Sane In Jail, Mariah The Scientist Says

Long distance relationships aren’t for everyone, namely due to the tricky circumstances that come with navigating such strong feelings through the distance. For Mariah the Scientist and Young Thug, things have proven to be particularly difficult through their physical separation. While the R&B starlet continues to tour across the country and prepare her new music for release, her other half has been behind bars for over a year and a half now while awaiting his YSL RICO trial.

We’ve heard occasional messages from Thugger himself, but for the most part, it’s been his loved ones giving us insight as to how the Atlanta native spends his days in jail. During a recent conversation with TMZ, The Scientist revealed that the So Much Fun hitmaker has been keeping his mind occupied, though not necessarily with writing raps or reading books. “He has an iPad and he plays Candy Crush,” the “Church” singer shared with a smile. “Every f**king day.”

Mariah the Scientist Gives an Update on Young Thug

It’s unclear what level Thug is on in the popular game right now, but internet users are speculating that he could potentially beat the entire thing should his legal proceedings continue to drag on so gradually. In the same interview, The Scientist was asked to share her thoughts on another artist’s relationship. Specifically, she complimented Sexyy Red while speaking on the Hood Hottest Princess‘ recent sex tape leak that left her feeling incredibly vulnerable in front of her millions of Instagram followers.

We anticipated that the YSL RICO trial would be slow-moving. Still, we can’t help but shake our heads at the snail-like pace of jury selection, which seems to be particularly difficult due to Young Thug’s far-reaching celebrity status. Do you think it would be more reasonable to carry out proceedings in another state, or would the results be similar elsewhere too? Share your thoughts in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Mariah The Scientist Shows No Signs Of Straying From Young Thug As Rapper Remains Behind Bars

Spending the past year and a half in jail has been trying on Young Thug’s mental health, but it’s also left a hole in the life of his girlfriend, Mariah the Scientist. The pair began spending time together romantically just months before he was arrested on RICO charges, and the YSL leader has done his best to make sure she can feel his love through the distance. Seeing as she’s a rising R&B star in her own right, Mariah likely has plenty of suitors sliding into her DMs. However, in a recent interview, the Atlanta native confirmed that she’s holding out for Thugger’s release, no matter how long it takes.

“What would you say to people who had something to say about you saying, ‘Free my baby daddy,’ or ‘Free Thug!’”? the journalist speaking with the “Church” artist asked. “I feel like, and this is in all honesty, there is nobody on planet Earth that can get between me and supporting my man,” The Scientist confidently responded. “I’m sorry, it’s just not gonna happen,” she assured any doubters out there.

Mariah the Scientist Gives An Update on Her Situation with Young Thug

Mariah then called out people on the internet for making assumptions about her and Thug, among other things, and being judgemental. “They have a lot to say, but I’m sorry to hear that you don’t understand what I got going on,” the 25-year-old continued to clap back at haters. “Maybe one day you will, but the odds are you won’t. I don’t feel the need to explain and express to somebody the love I have for somebody else… It’s not gonna change what I have going on, what people have to say.”

Unfortunately for Young Thug and Mariah the Scientist’s love life, it doesn’t look as though the So Much Fun hitmaker will be freed from jail anytime soon. Lawyers are still struggling to find the right candidates to sit on a jury, and amid that search, they’re also seeking to have YSL Polo removed from the trial due to his erratic behaviour. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Mariah The Scientist Declares Young Thug Her “Baby Daddy” During Festival Set

Mariah The Scientist was among many great artists who performed at the 2023 Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco on Friday (August 11). Moreover, her engaging set saw a highlight when she took a moment to address a more personal and pressing issue at hand. Of course, you might know the Atlanta native not just as a compelling artist, but also as Young Thug’s flame, who’s currently in prison on RICO charges related to his YSL collective. During her performance, she confirmed the extent of their relationship and expressed strong support for his freedom. Furthermore, the crowd was incredibly receptive to this, and called for a prompt prison exit along with her.

“Now, you know I got a man,” Mariah The Scientist told the large crowd before her at the Outside Lands festival. “He locked up. Free my baby daddy!” Then, the crowd erupted in a “Free Thug” chant which the R&B singer fired up and directed, which was a great sight to see. Young Thug’s court case has been one of the biggest and most complicated rap stories of the past few years, and it looks no closer to commencing. With that in mind, many want the Atlanta trap pioneer to enjoy himself and escape these conditions ahead of the real trial’s inception.

Mariah The Scientist Calls For “Baby Daddy” Young Thug’s Freedom

While Mariah The Scientist never publicly confirmed a romance with Thugger, their social media presence certainly made it clear. For example, they thirsted over pictures of each other in the past, regardless of whether Young Thug was behind bars or not. In addition, the 25-year-old tweeted of her longing for him while he’s in prison, lamenting the fact that he’s not by her side. Rumors flared all the way back in 2021, and it’s kind of wild to see how far they went without official confirmation from either, even though it was pretty clear-cut.

Meanwhile, just like the rest of us, there’s not much else Mariah can do but wait for case updates and support YSL from afar. Hopefully her family life and personal struggles can see some healing if she’s able to see Jeffery again. Until then, at least she has a whole fanbase behind her.
