One of the highlights of the films of Jeymes Samuel (aka The Bullitts) is the soundtrack albums he curates for them. In 2021, I praised the soundtrack of The Harder They Fall, writing that the movie often works best as a themed music video a la Beyoncé’s Black Is King. It looks like that may continue to be the case with Samuel’s next upcoming film, The Book Of Clarence, as Samuel shares its first soundtrack song, “Hallelujah Heaven” featuring Lil Wayne and dancehall legends Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks.
Samuel’s love for dancehall and reggae artists was also a fixture of the Harder They Fall soundtrack, which featured Barrington Levy, Dennis Brown, and Koffee in addition to rappers like Jay-Z, Jadakiss, and Conway The Machine. The Book Of Clarence will likewise contain appearances from Jay-Z (who is again credited as a producer for Samuels’ latest work), Kid Cudi, Jorja Smith, and more.
The Book Of Clarence is set in 33 AD and follows the exploits of the titular character (portrayed by LaKeith Stanfield) as he tries to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ — not as a disciple but as an imitator, looking to get rich quick. The film is set to hit theaters in January 2024.
You can listen to “Hallelujah Heaven” above and check out the new Book Of Clarence trailer below.
Jeymes Samuel, the visionary behind Legendary Entertainment’s upcoming film The Book of Clarence, has released a captivating track, “Hallelujah Heaven.” Featuring Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks, the song serves as a teaser for the film’s highly anticipated official soundtrack.
Samuel, a renowned British filmmaker, wrote and produced the track, showcasing a glimpse of the sonic tapestry accompanying his second feature film. The soundtrack, set to include contributions from JAY-Z, Kid Cudi, and more, will accompany the worldwide premiere of The Book of Clarence in Jan. 2024.
“The Book of Clarence is a film that I wanted to make for many years. While I was working on The Harder They Fall and all my other projects, the story and the music for The Book of Clarence was always there percolating in my mind,” said Samuel. “There was never a question as to whether I would compose the score and write and perform on the soundtrack, as well as write and direct the movie – it was all one amazing journey where one depended on the other. But I also worked with the most awesome artists on our track “Hallelujah Heaven”. Collaborating with Lil’ Wayne, Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks was so dope, I loved getting them all on the same track.”
Available now via Roc Nation, “Hallelujah Heaven” sets the stage for a musical journey that promises to enhance the cinematic experience of Samuel’s upcoming film.
Young Thug’s high-profile YSL RICO trial got started earlier this week. Though it’s just the second day, there are already major revelations being made. According to Bryson “Boom” Paul, Thug’s attorney Brian Steele provided an explanation for the original of Thug’s beef with fellow rapper YFN Lucci. He alleged that Lucci is actually broke and is attaching himself to more relevant rappers in order to generate attention and clout. Steele even claimed that Thug himself did something similar to Lil Wayne when he was a much less popular artist.
The trial is properly underway now after a rough start to the proceedings yesterday. The judge was already frustrated with lawyers from both sides, even before the opening day proceedings. But he was even more frustrated with the prosecution after they failed to deliver all the text slides in their opening statement to the defense. As a result, the opening statements were delayed. The jury had to be dismissed while they sorted the problem of sharing the opening statements between lawyers.
Young Thug’s Lawyer Brings Up YFN Lucci, Lil Wayne
As a result of the failure of the prosecution to hand over all their material Young Thug’s lawyers moved for a mistrial yesterday. Despite his issues with the prosecutions handling of the proceedings, the judge denied the mistrial request. It’s the most recent in a series of issues between the lawyers in the case and the judge who is hearing it.
During the pretrial, the judge had a heated moment with Thug’s lawyer Brian Steele. While they were examining a witness brought in as a gang expert, Steele was frustrated with the prosecutions constant objections. When he described the evaluation as a “farce” the judge specifically warned him to not use that description. That was just one of numerous issues that emerged with lawyers throughout pre trial proceedings. What do you think of Young Thug’s lawyers explanation of his beef with YFN Lucci? Let us know in the comment section below.
We knew Young Thug’s YSL RICO case would be a slow-moving process, but we didn’t think it’d be nearly a year and a half into his arrest before his trial began. After months of searching for the perfect jury candidates and watching the number of co-defendants dwindle, it’s nearly time to begin the next steps in the court process. While we eagerly wait for that, @ThuggerDaily and @HipHopLivesNATL on Twitter shared a newly leaked video from the Atlanta-based artist’s interrogation with police, which is two hours long and includes some seriously laughable moments.
Among clips already going viral is a moment between Jeffrey Williams and a detective asking him about gang violence mentioned throughout his lyrics. “Y’all are bloods, right?” he asks in a casual manner. “Lil Wayne, you, and Birdman?” After a moment of silence, the multi-talent responds in confusion, “A blood???” as if he couldn’t understand the connection between him and the notorious gang. “That’s what you say on the song,” the investigator reminds Thugger.
Young Thug Laughs Off Questions About Being in a Gang
Of course, song lyrics being evidence is one of the most controversial aspects of this trial. After letting out a laugh, Williams told the authorities, “Man, that is entertainment main!” Seeing as we haven’t heard much from the “Oh U Went” artist directly all year, hearing his voice (especially in such good spirits) is refreshing. As the trial finally moves forward it won’t be shocking if more leaks come out. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any that surface.
According to Mariah the Scientist, Young Thug’s got a pretty major incentive waiting on the other side of his time behind bars. The R&B singer says she and her man absolutely love discussing their plans to exchange vows once he (hopefully) beats his YSL RICO charges. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Getting serious, training with serious boxers. So I look at them as real fighters. But the sport of boxing, it just needs more eyes on it.”
As far as his music choices, Crawford says: “I have some Lil Wayne, I have some Anita Baker, I have some Kirk Franklin, I have some jazz, I have a little country. It just variety. I just put everything in one, and it just-Because I might get up and I might be hyped on a song, but I like to be mellow. Save all the energy for the fight.
