13 Times Nicki Minaj Dropped Bars About Sports

Rap and sports go hand in hand. The impact both have on society today is comparable to none. Rappers love to shout out popular players, teams, or sports in their songs. Take Nicki Minaj bars, for example; she has plenty of LeBron James references. Athletes also show their love for rappers in return. For example, LeBron James gave 2 Chainz his game-worn jersey after the Los Angeles Lakers played the Atlanta Hawks this year. Or how the Golden State Warriors players share a word with E-40 after home games. There’s mutual respect between the two arts.

You can always find a witty sports reference in Nicki Minaj bars. You may think she was an athlete at some point in her life. Whether it be basketball, football, baseball, boxing, or golf, you get the impression that she knows a thing or two. The way she flips and puts words together makes her the rapper she is today.

Throughout the years, Nicki Minaj has proven to be a legit emcee behind the mic. Undoubtedly, she’s one of the greatest rappers of all time. The Beam Me Up Scotty rapper can rap about anything, but she always nails the sports bars. Let’s look at some of Nicki Minaj’s bars about sports.

13. “Side To Side” – Ariana Grande ft. Nicki Minaj (2016)

Curry with the shot, just tell ’em to call me Stephanie.” It seems like every rapper has a Steph Curry bar. Since Curry burst onto the scene, he has been in more rap songs than you can count. Whether it’s his name, jersey number, or team, Chef Curry is pretty popular. Nicki gets her chance on Ariana Grande’s “Side To Side.” She gets clever by calling herself Stephanie, not Steph.

12.“Motorsport” – Migos ft. Cardi B & Nicki Minaj (2018)

I am the champ, I’m Iron Mike in a bout.” It’s funny how Nicki uses these bars on “Motorsport.” With Cardi on the same track, it’s no coincidence that she raps like this. She uses a boxing reference while talking about Iron Mike. Iron Mike is former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson’s nickname. Known to knock his opponents out, Nicki feels she is just like the champ.

11. “My Chick Bad” – Ludacris ft. Nicki Minaj (2010)

Runnin’ down the court I’m dunkin’ on ’em Lisa Leslie.” It’s good to hear Nicki shout out the WNBA. Lisa Leslie is one of the best basketball players to play the game. She was a dominant force in the WNBA and was the first woman to dunk in a WNBA game. It looks like Nicki feels like she’s leading the competition like Leslie did.

10. “Roman’s Revenge” ft. Eminem (2010)

These b*tches callin’ me Manning, Eli.” The “Super Bass” artist revealed her alter ego, Roman, on “Roman’s Revenge.” Nicki usually references baseball and basketball, but it looks like Roman is privy to football. Here, Minaj compares herself to two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning. With Eli playing for the New York Giants, Nicki prefers to name him instead of his popular older brother, Peyton. It may be a New York thing.

9. “Truffle Butter” ft. Drake & Lil Wayne (2015)

I’m good with the ballpoint game, finger roll.” Nicki has plenty of confidence in her writing skills. She makes it clear that she writes her lyrics down with a ballpoint pen. In basketball, a finger roll is a smooth layup in which the ball glides right off the fingertips into the hoop. It seems like the words come easy to the Pinkprint rapper.

8. “My N**** (Remix)” – YG ft. Lil Wayne, Rich Homie Quan, Meek Mill, & Nicki Minaj (2014)

Like they injured Chris Paul, you ain’t got no point.” Chris Paul is one of the best point guards in NBA history. When Paul is injured, the team loses their point guard. In the line before, the Queens artist says, “You n***** ain’t got no joints.” She’s letting these rappers know they don’t have any hits, so there’s no point in them being here.

7. “No Frauds” ft. Drake & Lil Wayne (2017)

They say numbers don’t matter but when they discussin’ the kings, they turn around and say Lebron ain’t got six rings.” On “No Frauds,” Nicki sends plenty of shots Remy Ma’s way. Again, she references basketball, and of course, LeBron gets another shoutout. This whole verse was dedicated to Remy Ma as she mentions that her album sales are not high. Remy and many others feel she shouldn’t talk about sales, but Nicki disagrees. In basketball, the conversation is, who is the better player? Michael Jordan or LeBron James? Many will say Jordan because he has six rings while LeBron has four.

6. “Love More” – Chris Brown ft. Nicki Minaj (2014)

I hope your pockets got m******** pot belly or is it that you never ball? John Salley.” Another basketball reference here for arguably the Queen of Rap. Nicki must be referring to John Salley’s later playing days. He was a part of the Detroit “Bad Boy” Pistons, winning championships with them in 1988 & 1989. In 1999, Salley came out of retirement to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers. Though he didn’t play much, Salley won another championship with the Lakers.

5. “Only” ft. Chris Brown, Drake & Lil Wayne (2014)

And tell them b*tches blow me, Lance Stephenson.” Nicki has LeBron on her mind once again.  She must be familiar with the LeBron James-Lance Stephenson rivalry. Their matchups were always entertaining when James played for the Miami Heat, and Stephenson played for the Indiana Pacers. In one of their matchups, Stephenson was guarding James as the ball was waiting to be thrown into play. He blew in his ear, and James just chuckled. Wonder if LeBron knows the number of times he’s been in Nicki Minaj’s bars.

4. “Roman’s Revenge” ft. Eminem (2010)

I’m a bad b*tch, I’m a c****, and I’ll kick that h**, punt.” Roman mentions football again in “Roman’s Revenge.” In football, a punt is when one team kicks the ball to its opponent. A punt is a long, high kick that soars through the air. Nicki has plans to kick her opposition out of here. It’s not hard to find a bit of humor in Nicki Minaj’s bars.

3. “Moment 4 Life” ft. Drake (2010)

And yes, I call the shots, I am the umpire.” The host of Queen Radio has rapped about sports since the beginning. In “Moment 4 Life,” Nicki describes herself as an umpire. Umpires officiate the game of baseball. One of the most important tasks of umpires is to monitor the pitches. Just like the umpires, Nicki is calling everything.

2. “Plain Jane (Remix)” – ASAP Ferg ft. Nicki Minaj (2017)

If I call him them he comin’ home runnin’, Derek Jeter.” The Young Money artist has been known to jump on a song for a remix. On ASAP Ferg’s hit, “Plain Jane,” Nicki references Hall of Famer and five-time champion Derek Jeter in these bars. Nicki plays on the baseball term “home run” by saying her man will come home running when she calls. Also, it’s interesting she mentions Jeter as Nicki is from Queens, New York, and Jeter played his whole career with the New York Yankees. It’s only right she namedrops a New York great while on a New York artist’s song.

1. “Do You Mind” – DJ Khaled ft. Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, Rick Ross, & Future (2016)

Every baller tryna score, check them shot clocks, but I hit ’em with them ‘Bron-Iguodala blocks.” It might be safe to say LeBron James is Nicki Minaj’s favorite. basketball player. Throughout her career, she has mentioned the NBA superstar in different ways. On DJ Khaled’s “Do You Mind,” these bars come right on time. Nicki references the historic 2016 NBA Finals, where the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from 3-1 to win the series.

James had the infamous block on Andre Iguodola with under two minutes left in Game 7. The Pink Friday rapper shows love to the historic play made by James just months earlier. Also, Nicki was in a relationship with Meek Mill around this time. These lines also mean that Nicki is curving any man that is interested in her. There’s a reason she’s included in the Top 50 greatest rappers of all time.

At 40 years old, Lil Wayne has made a name for himself as one of the most well-known and respected rappers in the industry. He continues to release music to this day, his most recent arrivals coming in the form of “THE FORMULA” with will.i.am, as well as March’s I Am Music project. During a sitdown with Missy Elliott for TV One’s Uncensored, the New Orleans native reflected on the year when he put out over 100 features. “That’s unheard of,” the “1, 2 Step” hitmaker applauded Wayne. “You have to have been raking in the dough,” she added. “I was only acknowledged for 77 of them,” the legendary lyricist told his co-star. “I don’t even think there was another artist playing on the radio, dang,” Missy recalled, thinking back to ’07.

Reginae Carter’s high-profile life has been a part of her career since she was just a young child. However, she has not been the face of flashing her things as most social media figures do. Being that she is the daughter of rap legend Lil Wayne and entrepreneur Toya-Johnson Rushing, she frequently shows love to her parents. Her unproblematic approach is constantly praised by her fans as he does have a heavy social media presence. Unfortunately, Reginae revealed someone tried to break into her home.

On Tuesday, Reginae Carter took to Twitter to express her feelings about almost being a victim of burglary. “Two guys tried to break in my home last night .. So Glad I wasn’t there people are sick!,” she said. She also revealed her plans for how she will soon live more discreetly. “This is my sign to get Tf out of here .. and to be more private and more to myself about everything,” she said with a red double exclamation emoji.

will.i.am And Lil Wayne Join Forces With “The Formula”

will.i.am and Lil Wayne both have extensive resume’s when it comes to their features and overall music catalog. Moreover, it’s a surprise as to why we don’t have more collaborations between the two icons. For as long as they’ve been in Hip-Hop we’ve only gotten two tracks with both of them. Jay Rock’s “All My Life (In The Ghetto)” and Wayne’s feature on the “Scream & Shout” remix. However, that all changes today with a new single from the rap powerhouses.

will.i.am and Lil Wayne have come together for their first collaboration track titled, “The Formula.” Not only that, it’s been a decade since the global producing legend released a solo single. Additionally, will.i.am is a big fan of Formula 1 racing, which most likely prompted the naming of this song. Formula 1 racing has become one of the fastest-growing sports to date. Furthermore, the 2023 FIA Formula 1 champion season will have more F1-inspired tracks as part of the Global Artist in Residence alliance. Interestingly, the release of this track from will. i.am culminates some buzz before the release of the Black Eyed Peas frontman’s solo album in the fall.

will.i.am Releases F1-Inspired Single

The track feels like an attempt at a summer bop, perfect for watching F-1 racing. It won’t be long ’til we see this in every commercial while the F-1 championship series is happening. “The Formula” track is the first of many tracks to be released and will also be featured during the Formula 1 Grand Prix broadcast. The Grand Prix starts this weekend May, 7, 2023.

Nonetheless, there’s no argument that the single is absolutely electrifying and energetic. Not only that the F-1-filled bars from Weezy make for a triumphant single. It’ll be interesting to see how Formula 1 follows this track. As Formula 1 racing and music begin to come together at break-neck speed, will.i.am is at the forefront delivering only the best. Additionally, the forward-thinking production from the legendary producer is second to none. The contagious rhythm and infectious pulsating bassline make for the perfect single to kick off the F-1 Grand Prix. Have you listened to the new track? This is the formula

Ahead of the upcoming F1 Grand Prix Race in Miami, which is set to take place this Sunday (May 7), will.i.am has shared a fiery new collaboration with Lil Wayne.

On “The Formula,” the pop and hip-hop veterans remind listeners of their place in the game. Will experiments with drill sounds as he delivers snappy, clever bars.

“Lightning quick, y’all can’t stick with it / I stay slick like I’m liquid / Super complex, ain’t comin’ simplistic / I told ’em, I told ’em, I told ’em I’m sick with the cold / So let me encode ’em / I got the ammo, so watch me reload ’em /I’m comin’ with flammables, time to explode ’em,” he raps.

Swooping in with some more heat his Wayne, with a verse chock-full of car metaphors

“Call me, ‘Weezy F1’ / My car fly like the Jetson’s / You a small fry, need ketchup / Fall behind or you can catch up / You can fall down or you can step up / Been a long time since I messed up / I told Father Time I’m his step-son,” he raps.

In a recent interview with us, Will pleasantly recalled meeting Wayne for the first time, and described the vibe he got from him.

You can listen to “The Formula” above.

will.i.am Tells Uproxx About The First Time He Met Lil Wayne Ahead Of Their Collaborative F1 Track

A new summer banger is on the way. Lil Wayne and will.I.am have the formula for a new heater. Appropriately titled “The Formula,” Lil Wayne and will.i.am’s new collaboration arrives ahead of F1 Grand Prix Race in Miami this Sunday.

The single drops tonight at midnight, but ahead of the release, will.i.am spoke with Uproxx about working with Lil Wayne.

Both Will and Lil Wayne have been in the game for nearly three decades. In our interview, Will recalled his first time meeting Weezy and how he had a familiar energy.

He doesn’t quite remember how exactly their first meeting happened, however, Will has nothing but fond memories of Weezy.

“All I know,” Will said, “is that when I first met Little Wayne, I felt like I’ve known him my whole life because he has that ‘this is my cousin, this is my family member,’ vibe. So, I don’t remember the first time. I don’t know if it was in the early 2000s, I just know when I met him, I had the vibe that I’ve known him forever.”

SOURCE SPORTS: Lil Wayne Meets the Houston Astros Before His Concert

On Tuesday, the Houston Astros received a special visit before their game against the San Francisco Giants. Lil Wayne showed up to Minute Maid Park in Houston to hang out with the team for a bit. Right now, the “Lollipop” rapper is on his Welcome to Tha Carter tour and had a show that same night in Houston at the House of Blues. The highlight of his visit was meeting Astros manager Dusty Baker and former Yankees legend Reggie “Mr. October” Jackson, Jr.

Jackson Jr. works on Astros’ staff as he and Lil Wayne had a long conversation on the field. His visit was capped off with a jersey signed by the players. Wayne described the love the organization showed him.

“It meant the world.  They showed me way too much love and it seemed like they’re a pretty big fan and I’m a fan as well so it was all good.”

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman described meeting the Young Money rapper as “motivating” to The Associated Press.

It’s incredible to hang with one of the best, if not the best, ever to do it in his industry.  He’s inspired so many of us through his music and then just to get to meet him and see how down-to-Earth he is really was very motivating.”

During his concert that night, Tunechi made sure to shout out the Houston Astros after showing him “so much love.”

Lil Wayne Visits The Houston Astros

Lil Wayne has been very active in the sporting recently. Aside from the usual pictures of him at various NBA events, he has been making his presence known. He face-timed both the Cavinder Twins as well as LSU during the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament. He is even reportedly collabing with LSU freshman and rapper Flau’jae Johnson. Wayne is currently touring the US in his “Welcome To Tha Carter” tour. It began in Nashville and is set to end in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros are off to a strong start in the 2023 MLB season. The defending champions, at the time of writing, are second in the AL West. They are 2.5 games back from the Texas Rangers, whose massive off-season spending is paying off for the team. The Astros are currently five games into a six-game homestand before taking to the road to face the Mariners, Angels, and White Sox. However, they recently struggled, winning just two of their last five games.

Lil Wayne Visits The Astros, Gets Custom Jersey

According to a post from the Astros, Lil Wayne paid a visit to the Houston dugout on May 2. Wayne was in Houston for a stop on this “Welcome To Tha Carter” Tour. The video, captioned “game recognizes game”, shows Wayne eagerly meeting players. He is also heard greeting infielder Alex Bregman with the moniker “Tiger”. This is likely a reference to Bregman’s collegiate career at LSU. Bregman was a standout player at LSU. However, he never appeared in the College World Series while with the Tigers. The Tigers would later finish runners-up in the 2017 College World Series.

However, things didn’t just end with a quick visit. Wayne took photos with members of the team. Furthermore, he was presented with a signed #27 jersey with the nameplate “Tunechi”. #27 is the current number of second baseman Jose Altuve, who has worn it since 2011. What’s amusing about this entire encounter is that back in 2008, Wayne revealed in an ESPN article that he was a Red Sox fan. Does still back the Sox? Or has he changed his allegiance to Houston? Lil Wayne Stops Tour Bus For His Personal Chef To Cook Him Meals

Lil Wayne committed to eating healthy early on in his career and he continues to maintain a better diet than most touring artists. It’s no secret that the tour life can be strenuous for artists. Between time restraints and moving from city to city, it’s hard to find a home-cooked meal. However, Weezy found himself a solution to that. The Louisiana-bred rapper doesn’t go anywhere without his personal chef, especially when he’s on tour. He revealed that he pulled his bus over to have his chef whip him up a healthy meal.

“We had pulled over to eat, and you know, I don’t eat fast food so we pulled over to cook,” he said. “Eat healthy young men, young women.” Several bags of groceries are aligned on the ground along with a small set-up where his chef whips up meals for himself and everyone else on the tour. Although some artists would just wait for catering once they get to the venue, Lil Wayne clearly prefers to have someone on standby, in case he gets hungry.

Lil Wayne Avoids Fast Food At All Cost

Wayne explained to Zane Lowe in February that he hasn’t touched fast food since he was 19 years old. He explained that his mother, who was also a chef, encouraged him to ensure that he was eating healthy foods. “When I was 19, I moved to Miami and my mom is a chef and she was very happy for the move because New Orleans is crazy. One thing she really wanted me to do was get a personal chef,” he said.

He added, “So from the age of 19 to now, I’ve always had a personal chef. I haven’t eaten any fast food forever, I don’t know what McDonalds smell like. Only Gym I know is Jim Jones. I can’t lift a weight, I don’t do no workout.” Still, Lil Wayne remains an avid skater, so it’s not like he’s lacking physical activity. Plus, he’s certainly putting in tons of cardio on stage every night on the Welcome To Tha Carter tour. Check out Lil Wayne’s video above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.
