Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz Make A Pick For The GOAT Producer

It’s no secret that Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz established themselves as Southern icons through their artistry but that probably wouldn’t have been able to be accomplished without the help of some incredible producers. And with careers as legendary as Wayne and Chainz, there’s no doubt that they’ve worked with some of the greatest producers of all time. Both have built incredible catalogs alongside some of the best behind the boards but who would they put in the GOAT position?

During Complex’s GOAT Talk with the ColleGrove collaborators, the two dished out on who they believe the GOAT producer of all time is. 2 Chainz said that it was none other than Kanye West who holds that spot for him. But, for Wayne, he listed the Cash Money OG Mannie Fresh, who undoubtedly produced some of his most impactful records, along with Yeezy. Considering Ye revealed that Wayne will be on Vultures, it seems like we might get more heat from the “Barry Bonds” collaborators soon.

Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz On The GOATs: Rappers, Mixtapes & More

While their choice of producers might not be surprising, some of their other picks certainly caught fans off-guard. For example, their choice for the GOAT mixtape. 2 Chainz took it back to the 2000s, praising Lil Wayne’s Dedication and Jeezy’s Trap Or Die. Surprisingly, Lil Wayne didn’t choose any of the iconic mixtapes from his catalog. Instead, he bestowed the honor on Future’s 56 Nights. Elsewhere, Lil Wayne called Jay-Z and Missy Elliott the GOAT MCs of all time while 2 Chainz gave that title to his close friend and collaborator.

Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz recently came through with their latest joint project, Welcome 2 ColleGrove, a follow-up to their 2016 album. The album boasts appearances from Benny The Butcher, Vory, 21 Savage, and Fabolous, along with 50 Cent serving as the narrator. Check out the clip of Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz discussing their picks for the GOAT producer above and sound off in your comments with your thoughts.

2 Chainz On 50 Cent’s Contribution To “Welcome 2 Collegrove”: “He Killed It”

2 Chainz praised 50 Cent for “killing” his contribution to his new album with Lil Wayne, Welcome 2 Collegrove, during an appearance on the Rap Radar podcast. He says that 50, who did skits on the album, submitted his portions in one take.

“I actually wrote these things for 50 to say,” Chainz explained. “And I sent it to him because first of all, 50 is somebody that has a voice I think people can recognize. Two – he’s in the TV space and three, I knew that when it was time to put out a album, I was going to do something to maybe f*ck people up to think maybe he was.”

According to TMZ, between late Friday, December 8, and early Saturday morning, 2 Chainz was reportedly rushed to the hospital following a terrible car accident.

The outlet revealed that after leaving the Miami, Florida strip club Booby Trap, 2 Chainz’s vehicle was allegedly struck from the rear, causing him to lose control and hit the road’s siding. In a video clip shared by 2 Chainz on his official Instagram page, the damage on the vehicle extends from the rear of the car across the entire driver’s side, with the wheel almost completely removed from the car’s frame.

Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz Prove They’ve Got “Bars” On New Track

The album boasts several high-profile features from the likes of Rick Ross, 21 Savage, Usher, Fabolous, and more. “Bars” – Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz

One notable example of this from the joint album is their track “Bars,” which doesn’t feature any guest artists. Braggadocious, witty rhymes meet hard-hitting yet simple production, making it a standout track on the new LP. While not unusual for the duo, their lyrical prowess is fittingly on full display on “Bars,” and is nothing short of impressive. For obvious reasons, Welcome 2 Collegrove is already on its way to becoming a fan favorite.

Ahead of the full release, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne unleashed two singles, “Presha” and “Long Story Short.” The songs gave fans a taste of what was to come, and only built further anticipation for the project. What do you think of Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’s new track, “Bars?” Will you be adding it to your playlist? Are you a fan of their new album, Welcome 2 Collegrove? Drake & Lil Wayne Are Lyrical Masters On Our New “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update

Our Fire Emoji playlist update has a little something for everyone: tough-as-nails rap, lyrical mastery, wavy instrumentals, and everything in between. Moreover, we’ve rounded up the best of the best hip-hop releases this week that are making a big splash right now. Unsurprisingly, Drake leads the pack with his For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition project, which is essentially Scary Hours 3. For this, he went in a deep lyrical bag that many fans missed, and showed that he’s still a great writer. If you want the standouts, we’d recommend the Alchemist-produced “Wick Man” and the J. Cole-assisted “Evil Ways.”

However, that’s far from the only collection of tracks that hit hard this week on Fire Emoji. After much anticipation and solid singles, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz finally unveiled Welcome 2 Collegrove, a collaborative sequel to their 2016 album. One of its more up-tempo and hard-hitting cuts, “G6,” displays Tunechi and the artist formerly known as Tity Boi with a lot of fire on the mic. With features from the likes of 21 S*vage, Usher, Benny The Butcher, that heat is very consistent and apparent throughout the tracklist.

Regardless of these solid releases, there’s one album that dropped this week that took the crown for Fire Emoji‘s best release: Danny Brown’s new album, Quaranta. If you didn’t like him before, give this project a listen: it’s the most uniquely somber, personal, but nevertheless hopeful and charismatic thing he’s ever dropped. There’s a more solid balance than ever between the Detroit MC’s wild energy and introspection, which the track “Dark Sword Angel” perfectly exemplifies. While other MCs hit 40 and get old, he proves that it’s only a question of getting older, not worse.

Meanwhile, there were a few notable singles to shout out this week, such as Jay Rock and Bongo ByTheWay’s triumphant and horn-driven “Still That Way.” Also, Mozzy came through with a passionate and bouncy banger with “FREE JUJU.” Finally, if you’re looking for gritty and grounded Chicago drill, Lil Durk and his OTF crew released the 11-song effort, Nightmare In The Trenches, on which “I’m The Type” is a menacing and relentless highlight. Let us know what your favorite release of these was- as well as what we missed- in the comments below.
