Nas & DJ Premier Excite Fans With Another Possible Collab Album Tease

Arguably the greatest hip-hop album of all time, NasIllmatic, turns 30 years old tomorrow (Friday, April 19), and to start celebrating the occasion, it seems like the Queens legend is reminiscing on the moment with one of the people that helped make the album the golden standard that it is for rap music. Moreover, he shared an Instagram post on Wednesday (April 17) that featured a photo with DJ Premier in the ’90s, and a picture of them right now. “Then v.s Now. What if…” the “One Time 4 Your Mind” MC captioned the post, and those last two words really got fans thinking that their mythical collab album might still arrive.

Furthermore, for those unaware, a team-up for a full LP’s been on the cards for Esco and Preemo since at least 2007, if going off of recorded history. A Scratch interview saw them mention it, but nothing else has manifested since then other than occasional teases and promises that it will (or could) still happen. However, the most recent tease about this DJ Premier joint project came on Nas’ “30” off of his King’s Disease III album, which was ironically a collaborative effort with another producer, Hit-Boy. “Superhero material, rap star status / Premier album still might happen,” he spits on the song.

Nas Hints At DJ Premier Collab Album, Fans Think

Going back to Illmatic, which contains some of DJ Premier’s most legendary beats for Nas, the latter recently reflected on this time of his life in a recent IG post. “Grainy pictures for grainy times,” he captioned about the pictures in the post. “I had a dream I could get my favorite producers to produce on my debut album. I knew exactly what I wanted and how it should be. But I didn’t know anyone except for Paul, so I asked him would he connect me to them all. The cool soul brother that he is helped me line it up.

“On April 19th we smashed s**t,” the 50-year-old continued. “Even tho the album leaked months before the release date we still are apart of music history. Thank you Large Professor (Paul) and Dj Premier who drove into the projects to pick me up a time or two. Qtip , Pete Rock , and my man from The Bridge DJ LES, and my guy AZ who was just coming up himself. And thank you to everyone involved. Friday is the albums 30th. 2 The Listeners- ONE LOVE.” Do you think this collab album is ever coming out? ScHoolboy Q Explains Why ASAP Rocky Collab Album Fell Through

ScHoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky are one of the most beloved unofficial rap duos of the 2010s. As incredibly skilled MCs in both their camps, and with a lot of woozy crossover when it comes to their appeal, they have absolute classics in the vault like “Brand New Guy,” “Electric Body,” and “PMW (All I Really Need).” As such, this is one of the many match-ups that fans have dreamed about over the years when it comes to a collaborative album. But with the TDE MC’s recent appearance on Drink Champs, we not only got confirmation that they wanted this team-up too, but that they just couldn’t make it work at the time.

“You and ASAP Rocky was gonna do an album together?” N.O.R.E. asked ScHoolboy Q on the program. “Yeah, we talked about it,” the BLUE LIPS spitter answered. “But… I mean, we both… like I said, me and him just ghost each other so much, bro. Yeah, yeah, like, you know what I mean? I’ll be looking for him, I can’t find him, he’ll be looking for me. Yeah, he’ll call, I’ll see it, I’ll be like, ‘Bruh, I’ll call you tomorrow.’

“Then it just… He got Rihanna, bruh, so sometime, I gotta get him back,” ScHoolboy Q continued. “‘Alright, you ghosted me for a week, I’m gonna have to ghost you for a week.’ You gotta wait a week now to -– Nah, nah, but nah, that’s my boy. I was just at his house looking at the new art he’s making and coming up with. He cold, he cold, he cold.

“You know, he’s always doing clothes, videos, and you know, music,” he concluded. “So he was just letting me see all the art he was working on, pretty much.” “That’s an L couple, creatively,” DJ EFN joked. “Yeah, that’s different, that’s different,” Q laughed. Metro Boomin And Future Announce Two New Collaborative Albums

Metro Boomin and Future have been teasing a collaborative album for more than a year now. In fact, Metro in particular had brought it up so many occasions that it became a meme among his fans. Many started to suspect that the album was never even coming out as Metro made posts about losing beats he was working for the project. But after a busy 2023, Metro proved he’s keeping his foot on the gas today when he finally announced the long-awaited Future collab.

Earlier today, Metro Boomin took to social media to reveal that the Future collab album is called WE DON’T TRUST YOU. The promotional material he shared included two dates, March 22 and April 12. While they didn’t officially confirm what the dates mean, that didn’t stop fans from speculating. Many believe that the first date is of the album’s lead single with the second being its official release date. Amid speculation about the announced dates there’s tons of fans celebrating. The two have been hyping up their crossover for so long that many are going into it with massive expectations. Check out the announcement they shared below.

Metro Boomin And Future’s Collab Album Coming Soon

The album announcement is good news for Metro Boomin fans that saw another anticipated album a few weeks ago. He had previously announced that he was working on material with Lil Durk, but at some point it fell through. He made the formal announcement that project wasn’t coming out in a tweet earlier this year.

Metro is one of the most frequent collaborators in all of hip-hop. Just before the Lil Durk news was announced Young Nudy shared a snippet of a Metro-produced track. He also made claims about a potential collab album, though fans aren’t exactly getting their hopes up that it’s coming any time soon. What do you think of Metro Boomin and Future announcing two collaborative albums? Are you looking forward to hearing two entirely new projects from the pair? Let us know in the comment section below.

LaRussell, Hit-Boy “Rent Due” Review

LaRussell and Hit-Boy have finally released their collaborative album Rent Due on streaming services, after first dropping the project a few weeks ago on the platform EVEN. The EVEN website allows creators to drop material for their fans ahead of schedule, in exchange for a pay-what-you-want method of listening, similar to BandCamp’s distribution system. Since rappers tend to make very little from the regular streaming avenues, this makes the exchange mutually beneficial for artists and listeners alike.

Rent Due is a 7-track EP that runs 18 minutes in length and features thoughtful lyrics penned by California’s own LaRussell over powerful drum-forward production from Hit-Boy. The project boasts guest features from MALACHI, Big Hit, and JANE HANDCOCK, and delivers a powerful and well-thought-out sound, despite LaRussell’s claim that he and Hit-Boy crafted the album in just 5 hours. Here’s an overview of the freshly released outing, and a review of the material within.

The EP Opens Very Strong

Some of the best material on Rent Due is front-loaded into the first few tracks on the EP. The opening track, “Lead Me To The Water” kicks off the project with an appearance from frequent LaRussell collaborator Tietta, who delivers a thoughtful and moving spoken word passage. Tietta’s lyrics reflect on life’s hardships and seek guidance from God as she relishes the blessings she’s received. The song’s airy spaced-out production from Hit-Boy allows LaRussell plenty of room to explore and experiment in his lone verse, which concludes with the lyrics “Can’t tell if I got a job, n****, I be home a lot/ Can’t tell if I really made it, n****, I be wearin Crocs/ I think I’ma end this song with a lesson from my pops/ Be a leader.

These closing bars are particularly poignant as Hit-Boy’s real-life dad, Big Hit, joins LaRussell on “Another One” just a couple of tracks later. Unfortunately, the opportunity fails to tie in thematically with the EP’s general focus, as Big Hit offers very little in the way of traditional wisdom during his guest appearance. “Another One” serves as a vacuous trap banger, with bouncing rubbery bass perfect for blasting out your car’s speakers while rolling through your neighborhood with the windows down, but definitely feels like a pointless inclusion when compared to thoughtful lyrical outings such as “Ethics” and “Real Life.”

LaRussell & Hit-Boy Showcase Their Chemistry

“Real Life” is possibly the best track on the project, with guest vocals from MALACHI and JANE HANDCOCK. On the track, LaRussell offers a deep look into his personal outlook on life and takes listeners through the journey of his early days in Vallejo, California, all the way to his modern mastery of the rap sound. JANE HANDCOCK’s angelic hook vocals elevate the cool, laid-back banger to the next level.

Unfortunately, the final three tracks on Rent Due fail to capture the same magic as the first four, as LaRussell and Hit-Boy collaborate without any additional features. While the pair certainly work well together, it’s impossible to listen to Hit’s inspired production choices without comparing the project to the recent string of collaborative albums the producer made with Nas. If you’re one of the few hip-hop heads who somehow missed Nas and Hit-Boy’s King’s Disease and Magic album trilogies, Rent Due will certainly please your sensibilities. However, through no fault of his own, LaRussell’s pen game simply pales in comparison to Nas, making much of the album feel like a missed opportunity.

We need another 50 album like really bad. 50’s on a roll right now. He’s been on a roll since the tour. I told him whatever the fuck he needs from me, I’m here. Ty Dolla Sign Unveils New “Vultures” Tribute Tattoo

Fans continue to anticipate the release of Ty Dolla Sign’s upcoming joint album with Kanye West, Vultures. Originally slated to drop this month, the LP has since been subject to various delays, and is now scheduled to arrive on January 12, 2024. Vultures not yet arriving hasn’t stopped Ty Dolla Sign from celebrating, however. Today, he took to social media to unveil some new ink he got dedicated to the collab.

“¥$,” a small tattoo situated just above the performer’s ear reads, as seen on his Instagram Story. Clearly, Ty is pretty dedicated to the project, and fans are now more eager than ever to hear it. As for his collaborator, Ye’s had his hands full lately. He’s perfecting plans to build a city in the Middle East, just seemingly celebrated the holidays with the Kardashians, and more.

Ty Dolla Sign’s Latest Ink

As of late, the Chicago-born artist has also been under fire for his recent apology to the Jewish community. He took fans and critics alike by surprise earlier this week when he announced that he’s now committed to “promoting unity.” Unfortunately, not many people are buying it. “I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community for any unintended outburst caused by my words or actions,” he wrote. “It was not my intention to hurt or demean, and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused. I am committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding More in the future. Your forgiveness is important to me, and I am committed to making amends and promoting unity.”

While the message seems to at least be on the right track, some users theorize that he only shared it to get some samples cleared ahead of the new album. Others also speculate that he had artificial intelligence write it for him. What do you think of Ty Dolla Sign’s new tattoo? Are you looking forward to hearing Vultures when it drops in January of next year? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Metro Boomin Teases Zaytoven Collaborative Project, Asks Fans For Name Ideas

Metro Boomin says he and Zaytoven have made upwards of 100 “masterpieces” together and wants them to release a collaborative project together. Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, he hinted at the idea while fielding suggestions for their name as a production duo.

“Me and @zaytovenbeatz probably got 100 [three flame emojis] beats by now,” he wrote in one post. “I got on here to ask you guys what artist should we do a tape with first but now I’m thinking maybe it should be a compilation tape of various artists over these masterpieces!” From there, he added in a subsequent post: “The sound of these beats me and @zaytovenbeatz make together are so unique like nothing my ears have ever heard before. I think we need a name as a production duo.. any ideas?”

Afterward, one fan suggested that Metro and Zaytoven get Future to hop on one of their beats, which Metro confirmed is already a done deal. This would make sense, considering he and Future already have their own collaborative project in the works. While neither has given it a release date, Future noted that it’s “on the way” in a post on December 23.

Metro Teases Zaytoven Collaboration

A collaborative project between Metro and Zaytoven comes after the two recently posted about having a similar recording process on social media, back in November. Zaytoven explained that he makes artists try to rap over every single beat he makes them, which promoted Metro to respond that he also does the same with Future. Be on the lookout for further updates on new music from Metro Boomin and Zaytoven on HotNewHipHop.

Future Teases Metro Boomin Collab Album Yet Again, Acknowledges Long Wait

One of the most anticipated projects of 2024 is hands-down Future and Metro Boomin’s long-awaited collaborative album. Although the two trap icons have an avalanche of material together, it’s going to be very exciting to see them team up for a full LP. Moreover, Hendrix recently took to his Instagram Story to repost a recall of one of his earlier tweets back in May of this year which teased the release. With that, and by saying that the “album [is] on the way,” he seemed to acknowledge that it’s been a long, long wait up until this point. However, given that Pluto is teasing this and not Metro, who usually takes up audience hype duties, this is a pretty promising “update.”

Of course, at this point, all we can really do is wait until it releases, as Future and Metro Boomin have had this in the cards for a while now. Still, recent rumors of bad blood within this camp might affect fan perception of this album, given the spicy narrative. As the producer and Drake are seemingly in a cold war, many folks have theorized how frequent and downright classic collaborators of both, those being the DS2 pioneer and 21 S*vage, are reacting to this. It’s a difficult position to be in, which puts the “truth” behind this speculation more in doubt.

Future Says Metro Boomin Collab Album Is Coming Soon

Other developments that fueled excitement for this album include Metro Boomin’s recent comments on his recording process with Future. Apparently, he doesn’t let him skip on any beats he brought to the table, emphasizing that even if he doesn’t like it at first, he at least has to try. It’s a very interesting revelation, but one that clearly leads to a lot of gems and amazing moments. For example, the beat on “I Serve the Base” off DS2 is forward-thinkingly distorted and aggressive, which wasn’t really the vibe that Fewtch was on during this era. Today, many fans might consider it one of that tape’s best highlights.

Meanwhile, this is what the St. Louis native had to say about his “Superhero” partner to Ebro Darden last year. “He’s one of the best artists to work with like that,” Metro expressed. “I feel like that’s why we get the results that we do because we don’t come in with any ego. He’s completely there, asking you what he should do and what you like. With some other people, sometimes you have to eat whatever s**t they give you that day. But with Pluto, he’s on the same s**t I’m on, and I tell him, ‘Let’s make the hardest s**t we can make,’ and he’s all in.” For more news and the latest updates on Metro Boomin and Future, stay up to date on HNHH.

Gucci Mane is always keep as busy as possible. The Alabama legend has been carving up the trap rap scene for years now, as we all know. 2023 continues the hard-working mantra that the 43-year-old stands by to this day. It all began with his solo project, Breath of Fresh Air, toward the backend of October.

That saw the likes of J. Cole, Mike WiLL Made-It, Roddy Ricch, 21 Savage, DaBaby, and Kodak Black appear. Following that, it was not a release that had his name on it directly, but it was still a big moment. Memphis rapper Big Scarr, who was/is a part of Guwop’s 1017 Global Music, LLC label, passed away nearly a year ago. A project was in the works for him, so his labelhead posthumously released his tape, Frozone, a couple of weeks ago.
