Lil Nas X has dropped a whole lot of music in 2024 in anticipation of his NASARATI 2 mixtape, and it looks like there’s even more on the way. Moreover, he returned on Sunday (November 10) to announce that “phase 1” of Dreamboy, presumably a new album, will begin today (Monday, November 11). The pop sensation announced the new single “Light Again,” which will drop this week. While some fans are still wondering about that mixtape, maybe this is just that exact same era but under a different name. Regardless, music listeners are still excited to hear this follow-up, especially considering the wait in between projects.

“I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to have this s**t up, or I don’t know what my CEO thinks right now, or whatever,” Lil Nas X remarked when he revealed a demo version of “Light Again” back in March. “[…] Bro, these last couple years have been crazy, ’cause I’ve made so much music and I just want to release music. Lil Nas X’s mainstream reign began with the rap-country crossover hit “Old Town Road,” one that feels very distinct from his career trajectory today. While this remains the longest-running No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history with 19 weeks, the divisiveness that this track caused in the country and rap space was often hostile. The Georgia native faced a lot of backlash for it, a curious contrast to how other Black artists’ forays into country, namely Beyoncé’s and Shaboozey’s, got praise five years later. Speaking to BBC, he reflected on how he feels about their success when compared to his own experience with genre-blending.

“I wish this would have happened for me,” Lil Nas X told the outlet on Sunday (May 19), clarifying that he’s “happy” for Beyonce and Shaboozey regardless of his thoughts on the matter. “I wasn’t even able to experience this.” Not only that, but he also told BBC that he’s been “trying out some country [sounds] here and there over the last couple of years.” “I want to feel connected to it and not force it,” the MONTERO artist added.

Of course, Lil Nas X went on to develop his career in many other genres, whether it’s indie or commercial stylings of pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop, and even folk. For example, his recent collaboration with Camila Cabello, “HE KNOWS,” caught pretty positive reception leading up to her upcoming pop album, so we’ll see what happens with that. Still, it’s very natural to see how “Old Town Road” simply arrived at a more difficult time for genre crossovers. Regardless of its reception and prompted debates on impact, it partially paved the way for Beyonce and Shaboozey to fully challenge the notion that Black artists should be boxed into certain musical styles.

Meanwhile, Queen Bey might be prepping a tour soon, which obviously has fans very excited. Hopefully she and Lil Nas X, along with Shaboozey, can foment more collaboration between a myriad of Black artists, especially those in country that are experiencing a lot of due acclaim right now. As Azealia Banks’ rant continued in the caption, she said that they would shift culture and that Tyler, The Creator could “teach Lil Nas X how to rap so he can stop doing his Azealia Banks impression.” She also offered a list of people that Nas should collaborate with, blasted white creative directors, slandered Arca for some reason, and said that the industry celebrates child sex traffickers rather than actual talent. While other artists start their rollouts little by little, Lil Nas X’s new single “J CHRIST” proves that he always kicks it off by front-loading all the controversy. Moreover, his song and music video prompted a lot of backlash for his depictions, treatments, and overall references of Jesus Christ and the Christian religion as a whole. This was from devout believers, atheists, members of other creeds, and regular folks alike, with just as many people from all these groups and more seeing no problem with it. But one God-fearing man in the rap game took particular issue with this move: Boosie Badazz.

“THIS ‘Whatever’ IS SO DISRESPECTFUL ITS SAD SMH,” he expressed on social media about the song and music video on Friday (Januay 12). Three days later, Boosie is back with a little bit more to say, and it seems to relate to Lil Nas X’s statements responding to all the backlash and uproarious debate about his art. “HE LYING HE KNOW WHAT HE DOING!!” he expressed in an Instagram comment, presumably on a post covering Nas’ responses. “I BET HE WOULDNT DO THIS TO JEWS [100 emoji] HES GOING TO HELL.”

As for those responses, this is what the MONTERO creative had to say to Boosie (indirectly) and a whole lot of other people. “I wanted to not necessarily apologize but I wanted to explain where my head’s at and where it’s been for the past week,” Lil Nas X expressed on social media. “First of all, when I did the artwork I knew there would be some upset people or whatnot, simply because religion is a very sensitive topic for a lot of people. But I also didn’t mean to mock. This wasn’t a ‘f**k you’ to you people, ‘f**k you to the Christians.’ It was not that. It was literally me saying, ‘Oh, I’m back like Jesus,’ that was the whole thing.

“Anything I do related to religion could be seen as mockery,” he continued. “That was not the case with this. I will say with the communion video, with me eating the crackers and juice, I thought that video was going to be the video to lighten the mood. I thought that was something we all wanted to do as kids, but I didn’t understand the reality of what it is. It’s me eating the communion, which is the symbolism of Jesus’ blood and bones or something like that, I don’t remember completely. Moreover, the MONTERO star recently called out some “fake news” that emerged online concerning the identity of his mother. Pink Friday 2 is here, and there are a lot of artists that are feeling more like Barbz these days as a result. Moreover, many fellow rappers and musicians in other genres came forward to show their love to Nicki Minaj’s latest album. The most recent addition in that vein actually came in the form of a new remix. Furthermore, Lil Nas X recently took to social media, particularly Instagram, to share his remix of the track “FTCU,” which includes a brag-heavy, boisterous, and bombastic new verse from him. He comes off with a lot of charisma and with some funny bars and references, whether it’s proclaiming his Nicki standom or pulling together some punchlines with Doja Cat song titles.

Not only that, but this is very interesting given the Georgia artist’s recent switch-up into his self-proclaimed “Christian era.” As is unfortunately usual for him, he faced a lot of backlash as a result, but also some surprising support from a leader in the Christian rap space, Lecrae. Hopefully this means that Lil Nas X wasn’t deterred from expressing himself in whatever way he saw fit. Who knows, maybe other future remixes of his will also take on this religious slant.

What we wouldn’t bet on, though, is for the MONTERO superstar to cook up more remixes of the Trinidadian MC. Rather, their bond stems from his aforementioned love of her and her music, which became a hot topic in the headlines at one point. Following some apparently rejected collabs and some fanbase clashing, we’d remain pretty skeptical of the idea that they could eventually come together.

However, we’d love to be proven wrong, as they are too talented of a duo to pass up on. It’s nowhere near the level of cold war that the “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” hitmaker has with Cardi B, but it’s still a touchy subject. However, none seemed to garner as much negative or positive attention than Lil Nas X’s choice to dress up as a bloody tampon connected by a string to a huge, fake… well, you know. Moreover, he got a lot of flack for this fit due to its lewd or explicit nature, what many interpreted as a comical treatment of a real health product, or portraying a negative view of women. If you’ve heard the Georgia native’s music in any capacity, you know he’s not about any of that, and he took to Twitter on Wednesday (November 1) to make this clear.

“I been silent for nearly 2 years,” Lil Nas X expressed on the social media platform. Then, he made a bold claim about people not actually being angry about the costume and just overblowing their reaction. “Y’all are not finna pretend to be mad about a tampon costume. Lil Nas X Pokes Fun At People Complaining About Target’s Pride Month Products

When Target unveiled its new line of harmless Pride Month products, right-wing bigots everywhere threw a hissy fit to no one’s surprise, as if the company was forcing everyone to buy them at gunpoint. Even more unsurprising, somehow, was Lil Nas X’s humorous satire of the whole ordeal. Moreover, the superstar took to Twitter to let out a parody tweet imitating the backlash to people complaining about “the rainbow agenda” and “the woke mob” and what have you. Unfortunately, right-wing threats actually prompted the store to pull back on its campaign. Maybe they should take a page out of Montero’s book and see it for the ridiculous bawling that it is.

“Can’t believe target is supporting this nonsense” Lil Nas X tweeted. “I’m never shopping there again, my son is not “too cool for school” these shirts are ridiculous. He is going to school and he WILL learn.” Of course, this is far from the first time that the Georgia native made fun of overblown LGBTQIA+ backlash. Recently, he clapped back at Woah Vicky claiming that he’s faking his sexuality by referring to her as Ja Rule.

Lil Nas X Trolls People Mad At Target’s Pride Month Campaign

However, that’s not to imply that the “STAR WALKIN’” rapper and singer never faced some pushback of his own for seemingly insensitive comments. Last March, he tweeted: “where do the gays be in africa i wanna come there.” It’s unclear what intent he had in relaying such message, considering that Uganda had just passed destructive anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation that poses a serious threat to the community. Perhaps Lil Nas X wanted to invite people to express themselves regardless rather than blindly wondering where he could find them. No matter how you look at it, the message certainly didn’t land.

Meanwhile, that’s just one instance among many others where the 24-year-old championed freedom of sexuality. As such, it’s much easier for fans to take tweets like his Target parody with a healthier and more inclusive light, unless you’re one of the ones offended by it. Happy belated birthday to Lil Nas X, who turned 24 on Easter Sunday, of all days, on April 9. As a means to celebrate the occasion, it looks like he set up a Playboy-inspired photoshoot that’s as crisp as it is raunchy- and unreleased. Moreover, he didn’t actually give all the pictures of this shoot away. The cover, though, features the MONTERO star in heels, bunny ears, and no clothes, with just the silk sheets of the bed he’s laying on (which is strewn with old Playboy magazines) to cover him up. Furthermore, the header reads “Battyboy,” which is a slur aimed at gay men in Jamaican patois that he seems to have reclaimed as his own.

“Hbd thee batty boy,” the now 24-year-old wrote as his caption. Other pictures in his slideshow include him looking excitedly at one of his fake covers, hinting at even raunchier stuff featured in the photoshoot. Not only that, but it’s a specific reference to the publication’s Cover Girls cover back in January of 1986. Whenever Lil Nas X fights back against bigoted individuals with his statements, he always does his homework.

However, that’s not to say that his actions can’t result in some significant backlash. For example, he recently drew the ire of many on social media after he tweeted out that he wants to meet more gay men in Africa. As such, people thought that it was a little too close for comfort, and they were unable to identify if Lil Nas X knew what he was doing when he tweeted that. Still, many concluded that it was just unfortunate coincidence, and he hasn’t responded to that concern as of writing this article.

Lil Nas X just jokingly dissed 50 Cent on Twitter, and responses clapped back so much that he muted the conversation. Moreover, he responded to a tweet with a cheeky and jesting message (in typical fashion), delivered briefly to his audience of 8 million followers. Furthermore, the tweet in question was a picture of both 50 and Nas X, basically comparing “rappers then” to “rappers now.” Not only that, but the user who posted the meme-like comparison said they saw it as a downfall for the genre. Then, the “INDUSTRY BABY” responded with a light jab at 50, but one that clearly aimed more at people who take offense to his claims that he’s better.

“This is not fair youre comparing a legend who has changed music forever to 50 cent,” he wrote. At the time of writing this article, the Queens legend hasn’t addressed or responded to either of these messages. Shortly after publishing them, though, the MONTERO rapper posted a screenshot of him muting the conversation for that tweet. As such, he probably got too much hate in his comments section and decided this time to just ignore it rather than clap back at it with a funny tweet like he usually does.

Lil Nas X Throws Some Funny Shade At 50 Cent

All that said, to see 50 respond to the Georgia-born artist would be interesting, to say the least, as he could go ay direction with it. Much like the “In Da Club” rapper himself, Nas X also likes to stir the pot and cause a ruckus online for his words and takes. However, some of that behavior turned damaging earlier this week. Moreover, his tweet about “gays in Africa” caught a lot of fire, primarily because it came soon after sweeping anti-LGBTQIA+ laws passed in Uganda.

With that in mind, if this actually becomes a feud and doesn’t land as the joke it is, things might get ugly. After all, 50’s no stranger to controversy himself, and has a fanbase as passionate and as numerous as Lil Nas X’s to this day.
