Drake’s “Take Care” Not Certified Diamond RIAA Says Contrary To Original Reports

Drake is one of the most successful rappers in hip-hop’s nearly 51 years in existence. The Toronto, Canada icon has racked up hits, numerous great albums, tremendous features, and many sold out tours. One of his magnum opus moments in his storied career has to be the release of his 2011 album Take Care. Even after its 12 years of shelf life, it still sits really high on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. It is currently at the number 30 spot, and it has been on the chart for 572 consecutive weeks. Just last week his third project was at number 23. However, even after all this time, Drake’s Take Care is still not diamond.

According to XXL they had a direct conversation with the RIAA about incorrect reports saying Take Care reaching this coveted milestone. For those who do not know that stands for the Recording Industry Association of America. They handle and track all of the record certifications. Several music accounts on social media originally shared that Drake’s record sold the 10 million copies, the amount needed for diamond status.

Drake Still Has A Ways To Go Before Take Care Reaches Diamond Status

Unfortunately, the RIAA confirmed and corrected the original reports, saying it is sitting at eight million copies sold and is yet to pass that mark. While it may be a tiny bit disappointing, Drake is most likely doing just fine. Eight of his records are still on the charts and his It’s All A Blur – Big As The What? Tour is bringing in big crowds. It might take a couple more years, but Take Care holds a special place in a lot of rap fans’ hearts regardless of its certification status.

What are your thoughts on Drake’s Take Care reconfirmed to be not diamond yet? How much longer do you think it will be before it reaches that mark? Is this album still in your rotation? Lil Nas X Corrects Article Who Mistook His Mother In Graphic Fashion

With a tour documentary shortly on the way, it seems like Lil Nas X is gearing up for something big in 2024. However, all the media coverage and updates haven’t been perfect, especially when it comes to other outlets trying to bite off more than they could chew. Moreover, the MONTERO star recently called out some “fake news” that emerged online concerning the identity of his mother. If you’re a longtime fan, you know that the wider public still doesn’t really know who she is, and it seems like he definitely wants to keep it that way, at least for now.

“y’all just be creating people,” Lil Nas X expressed on Twitter on Thursday night (January 4). “cuz who the hell is shawnita hathaway I did not come out that lady p***y.” For those unaware, this refers to a since-deleted piece that PEOPLE wrote on his parents that mistakenly identified his mother as Shawnita Hathaway. You can find an archived version of the article here, which claims that they split when the “INDUSTRY BABY” artist was five years old and that his father, Robert Stafford, gained full custody of him when he was nine.

Desiigner Not Required To Register As A Sex Offender, Attorney Clarifies

The attorney for rapper Desiigner has clarified reports that his client is required to register as a sex offender. According to Ryan Garry, there is no mandatory registration that Desiigner must abide by. “Many news outlets have incorrectly stated that he is required to register as an absolute condition of his probation. They are wrong. Since this was a federal misdemeanor, the sentencing judgement states that if the State of California or some other government entity requires that Mr. Selby must register as a sex offender, then he must. However, the parties in this case have come to the legal conclusion, after significant research and consultation with lawyers in California, that this misdemeanor conviction is not one that will cause Mr. Selby to have to register as a sex offender,” Garry told PEOPLE.

On September 12, Desiigner pled guilty to a charge of “obscenely and indecently exposed genitalia in a public place”. The charge stemmed from an April 2023 incident in which Desiigner was caught masturbating on a commercial flight from Japan. He was sentenced to two years probation, 120 hours of community service, and a $5000 fine. Furthermore, he must undergo psychiatric evaluation and routine drug testing. Additionally, he is prohibited from owning a firearm.

Is Desiigner A Sex Offender?

TMZ is believed to be the first outlet to erroneously report that Desiigner would be required to register as a sex offender. Per the outlet’s initial report, “According to the docs, obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, the judge ordered the “Panda” rapper to register as a sex offender going forward.” However, numerous other outlets, HotNewHipHop included, also picked up the story. As mentioned by his attorney, this was initially reported as an “absolute condition of his probation.”

During sentencing, Desiigner’s attorneys asked the sentencing judge to be lenient when it came to travel restrictions. This, they argued, was so that the rapper could continue performing while serving his suspended sentence. Based on what has been reported, it appears that this request was accepted by the judge. While Desiigner said he was retiring from music after the death of TakeOff, he has returned to the industry this year. His 2023 tracks include “Young N Ballin” and “Mafia Water”.
