Keke Palmer’s relationship has all eyes on her for the second time this year, though things are dramatically worse this time around. The first time she and Darius Jackson turned heads was due to his jealousy over her interaction with Usher at the R&B star’s Las Vegas residency. Now, the former child star just got a restraining order against Jackson. In addition, she has sole custody of their infant son, Leodis, after filing court documents accusing her co-parent of abuse in various forms.
Among receipts shared by Palmer were stills from video footage in her home, showing Darius getting physical with her on multiple occasions. Along with those, she also shared harrowing details of comments made by Jackson in the presence of her and their son. “[He] said very disturbing things to me that cause me to feat for our son’s safety with him,” the Chicago-born actress wrote. Among the troubling statements were some about “how he understood why male animals in the wild want to eat their children.”

In addition to that, the 29-year-old suggested that “a man’s love for his child is based on if he loves the woman.” This, paired with Jackson’s history of violent outbursts while jealous are serious red flags for Palmer. Besides becoming physical with her, the new mother also claims she’s seen her co-parent taking his anger out on Leo, specifically when the baby was crying during a diaper change. “Darius started getting rough with Leo physically and I stopped in to make sure Darius would not hurt hum. [He] was angry and it almost became a tug of war with Leo,” Keke recalled.

This summer, Keke Palmer and Usher created what Usher described to People as a “pop moment” that was “worth talking about” when he serenaded Palmer at one of his Usher: My Way The Vegas Residency shows, an act certainly not exclusive to Palmer but to which Palmer’s then-partner, Darius Jackson, took exception — publicly ridiculing her for her outfit. Palmer leaned into it, leveraging it to her advantage, but Thursday (November 9) presented a reminder that people’s lives aren’t meant to be reduced to internet fodder.
TMZ, citing court documents, reported that Palmer requested full custody of her son, Leodis, whom she shares with Jackson, and filed a temporary restraining order against Jackson. Rolling Stone reported this morning (November 10) that “a judge has granted Keke Palmer temporary sole custody of her eight-month-old son.”
So, how did we get here? Below is a timeline of what happened between Palmer and Jackson.
May 2021: Palmer vaguely referenced Jackson while visiting the The Terrell Showfor an episode posted to YouTube on June 1. At the 15:48-minute mark, she mentioned that Jackson would ask her to sing Whitney Houston’s “All The Man That I Need” to him, which led into Palmer discussing that she had met Jackson “very casually at a party, which is so rare.”
She continued, “Diddy was doing an Insecure afterparty with Issa Rae, and I had just done the show, and his brother worked on the show.” Per Page Six, Diddy and Issa Rae co-hosted a party during Memorial Day Weekend in 2021.
August 2021: Palmer acknowledged her 28th birthday by posting an Instagram carousel with a photo showing her kissing Jackson.
March 2022:Palmer’s first formally addressed her relationship with Jackson with Bustle. She explained why she decided to make their relationship public, saying, “I just think [this] was a moment in time in my life where I really stepped into this kind of boss behavior [of doing] whatever the hell I want to do. This is the happiest I’ve ever felt with someone. So why would I go out of my way to hide this person? That’s a lot more work than just living in my life and being in my life.”
December 2022:Palmer didn’t want to go out of her way to hide Jackson, but she also didn’t go out of her way to share much about their relationship. It was relatively private, given her stature. But while making her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live on December 3, 2022, Palmer revealed she was pregnant with their first child.
February 2023: Palmer gave birth to Leodis Andrellton Jackson on February 25, 2023. Palmer shared an Instagram carousel to announce his arrival.
June 2023:Palmer gushed over Jackson on Father’s Day, posting a lengthy Instagram tribute.
“Happy Father’s Day to the best dad ever!(don’t tell my dad I said that),” she captioned the video. “Congrats Mr. Man, Leodis and I are so very happy to have such a fun, kind, responsible, dependable and supportive man like you in our lives. It’s so wonderful to see the kind of loving father you are, but I’m not surprised. You wanted to be a dad maybe more than I wanted to be a mother and that’s saying a lot, because I’ve ALWAYS wanted to be a mother. I love this for us, but I really love it for Leo! God bless you darling, thank you for being in our lives. WE LOVE YOU!”
July 2023:And then, Jackson inexcusably body-shamed (and mom-shamed) Palmer when she attended Usher’s Las Vegas residency on July 4. Palmer acknowledged his since-deleted posts a few days afterward, posting a video with her son and writing in the caption about how becoming a mother “empowered” her. The post also announced shirts with “I’M A MOTHA” and “Stevie To The Bullsh*t” printed across them.
August 2023: Usher released his “Boyfriend” single alongside a video starring Palmer, clearly served as a callback to the serenading controversy.
Around the same time, People exclusively reported that Jackson had “moved on.” The source relayed that Jackson and Palmer were co-parenting, noting, “You don’t have to be in the same household to be good parents.” However, 10 days later, Palmer celebrated her birthday with Jackson (as relayed by Entertainment Tonight.)
November 2023: On Thursday, November 9, reports surfaced that Palmer was seeking full custody of her and Jackson’s son. On Friday morning, November 10, People reported that Palmer had just “filed a request for a domestic violence restraining order in Los Angeles.”
The publication cited court documents in which Palmer alleged, “Darius trespassed into my home without my knowledge or consent, threatened me, then physically attacked me — lunging for my neck, striking me, throwing me over the couch, and stealing my phone when I told him I was going to call the police.”
That is said to have happened on Sunday, November 5, but the lengthy filing also cites “many instances of physical violence,” including particularly disturbing abuse captured on “home security footage” on February 13, 2022, as well as “Darius destroying my personal property, including diaries and prescription eyeglasses, throwing my belongings into the street, throwing my car keys to prevent me from driving away, hitting me in front of our son, spewing profanities about me to our son, threatening to kill himself with a gun if I left him, harassment, and other physical and emotional abuse.”
Darius Jackson is facing some pretty hefty allegations from his ex, Keke Palmer. Last night, it was reported that Palmer had filed for a restraining order from Jackson. Furthermore, she filed for full custody of their child. Subsequently, Palmer was granted both of those requests. Although she will have to go to court again later in December, it remains clear that the judge is siding with her. Overall, she alleges that Jackson has physically abused her on numerous occasions.
For instance, she claims that after showing him a photo of her in a bikini, he allegedly got angry and grabbed at her neck. Moreover, he tried grabbing her phone and allegedly continued assaulting her in the process. Now, however, Jackson himself is responding in a more indirect way. While he has not addressed what Palmer has said, he does seem to be focused on his child right now. In the tweet below, he wrote “I love you, son. See you soon.”

As it stands, he does not have custody of his child, so this reaction does make sense. However, you can imagine just how harshly fans have been reacting to this post. Many are livid with the allegations and are seeking some form of punishment. Overall, it is not a good look for him, and the public support is fully behind Palmer right now. Only time will tell whether or not a judge will continue to side with Palmer. She goes back to court in December, and it is there where we may get some insight into the intricacies of what went down.

Jackson’s brother, Insecure actor Sarunas Jackson, chimed in with a post online, writing, “The most disgusting, vile, abusive, manipulative persona I have EVER encountered. Y’all will see. Just send positive energy to the babies. Any child in the middle of something like this does not deserve it at all. Wow. So damn sad.” Sarunas later deleted his remarks.
In response, Palmer’s mother, Sharon, blasts him for not intervening. “I went to Sarunas over a year ago and told him that his brother was abusive to my daughter, and he said, ‘Well, I used to be like that too.’ So now he’s posting on Twitter like he’s this special guy when we know he’s the biggest f*ckboy in Hollywood; he’s disrespectful to women just like his brother,” alleged Sharon.

According to PageSix, Palmer denied the option of joint custody and also filed a restraining order against Jackson. The order cites physical and emotional abuse. The documents also state “many instances of physical violence,” claiming Jackson has destroyed personal property, tossed Palmer’s items into the street, and tossed her car keys to prevent her from leaving.
Jackson is also accused of hitting Palmer in front of their son, threatening suicide if she left him, harassment, and “other physical and emotional abuse.”
Palmer and Jackson officially split last month, but Palmer states she has security footage as recent as Nov. 5 showing Jackson trespassing at her home. Jackson is stated to have “threatened [her], then physically attacked [her] — lunging for [her] neck, striking [her], throwing [her] over the couch and stealing [her] phone when [she] told him [she] was going to call the police.”
Palmer stated the relationship officially wrapped in early October due to “physical and emotional abuse inflicted on [her] by [him] throughout [their] relationship.”
“It is because of our son, Leo, that I was finally able to end my relationship with Darius once and for all and escape the abuse,” Palmer wrote. “Leo is the most important thing in the entire world to me; he needs and deserves to be safe and grow up in an environment free from violence.”
Palmer stated her leaving Jackson has escalated the attacks, citing his actions as “more unhinged, volatile and dangerous.”

Keke Palmer recently filed for a restraining order against Darius Jackson. Furthermore, he also sought full custody of her son Leodis. Well, last night, Palmer was granted both of those things.
