Benzino’s Weirdest Comments About Daughter Coi Leray

Benzino and Coi Leray’s relationship has been strained over the past few years, to say the least. It seems that the one-time co-owner of The Source has an ongoing beef with his daughter that he can’t seem to curb. The comments on both sides have been fiery, though Benzino’s have ranged from needless to downright bizarre. From spilling the beans about her Nicki Minaj collaboration to his wild remarks about Leray losing her virginity, Benzino arguably hasn’t been able to take a step back when it comes to his rap star daughter.

Benzino Says Coil Leray Can’t Criticize His Support for R. Kelly

Benzino’s support of R. Kelly is widely known. He’s repeatedly stated that he believes the R&B singer deserves a second chance to redeem himself. Coi Leray’s response to this has been to further distance herself from her father, stating that she doesn’t approve of or respect any of the interviews he’s been doing lately. But a bizarre turn of events took place during a recent interview on the Famous & Wealthy Podcast. Benzino responded rather oddly to Coi’s decision to put more space between her and her father directly. He weaponized her reveal that she lost her virginity at 14 to both defend himself and R. Kelly, stating, “How can you say that when you just said that you lost your virginity at 14? So is the guy that you lost your virginity at 14 with, is he a pedophile?” This is definitely one of Benzino’s weirdest comments.

Benzino Charges Coi Leray With Pushing A False Narrative

In a fall 2023 interview with Angie Martinez, Coi Leray discussed her shaky relationship with her father. She told Martinez that she sensed some jealousy from her father over her recent success. She added that it’s not something she holds against him since he’s “he’s human.” However well-intentioned her comments were, Benzino seemed to take them as a complete attack. In a since-deleted Instagram video, the 58-year-old responded in a rant. He called Leray’s comments, in so many words, ridiculous. He shot down any charges of envy, arguing that there’s no way he could be jealous of someone he “raised, nurtured, provided for, influenced, and loved very dearly.” The intensity of his response makes one of Benzino’s weirdest comments. It also makes you wonder whether Benzino is trying to make amends or just saving face.

Benzino Lets Coi Leray-Nicki Minaj Collab Out Of The Bag

Benzino slipped a terribly timed comment about his daughter’s collaboration with Nicki Minaj, “Blick Blick.” It almost ensured the song never came out since Minaj faced pressure from her label to pull the track. Benzino teased that Leray “got this song with Nicki Minaj that’s gonna be coming out that’s gonna be crazy” on the audio chatroom Clubhouse. Leray, understandably heated, would hop on Instagram Live to publicly lambast her father, telling him to calm down and that “it’s [her] turn now.”

Benzino Threatens Coi Leray’s Mother

During an album promotion interview on The Breakfast Club in April 2022, Coi Leray publicly revealed that her father went broke over the loss of The Source magazine. She said she was about nine years old at the time. Leray would take to social media soon after to reveal that Benzino had sent threatening messages to her mother since the interview. She asked him to stop mistreating her and her mother because of his failures. This seemingly did nothing to slow Benzino down, as he retaliated by taking to X to tweet, “The problem with this…generation is that they have no respect or regard for who came before them and how they laid the blueprint for them to be successful.” His almost compulsive need to have the last word has led onlookers to question the motivation behind his public responses.

Benzino Says Busta Rhymes Should’ve Called Him

In a February interview on Drink Champs, Benzino expressed his upset over Coi Leray shooting a music video for “Luxury Life” with Busta Rhymes. He asked, “How come [Busta Rhymes] didn’t call me?” The answer seems fairly obvious; Leray is a grown woman with a career and makes her own decisions. But this didn’t seem clear to Benzino, who continued, “If he has my number, call me, ‘Hey bro, I’m getting ready to do videos with your daughter’ – that’s my f******* daughter.” The Drink Champs hosts tried to be understanding but were caught off-guard by this statement, one of Benzino’s weirdest comments. They then became downright confused when he stated moments late that “ain’t no beef with Busta Rhymes.” He’s obviously upset with Leray’s part in the Busta Rhymes video, but his anger seems misdirected at best.

A History Of Benzino & Coi Leray’s Turbulent Relationship

Benzino hasn’t always enjoyed the best relationship with his daughter and rapper Coi Leray. The pair have traded words on social media multiple times, but their issues got to a head in May when she said publicly that she wanted nothing to do with him. Coi’s outburst came after her father defended disgraced and imprisoned R&B legend R. Kelly. This isn’t the first time Coi Leray and Benzino have gone against each other. Their internal problems have played out publicly and seem never-ending. Here’s a history of the father-daughter pair’s turbulent relationship.

Coi Leray’s Childhood

Benzino, known for his rap career and co-ownership of Source Magazine, welcomed Coi in May 1997. Her mother remains unidentified and out of the spotlight. Growing up as the only girl among six children, Coi had a mixed experience of privilege and hardship. She described her childhood in an interview with Paper Magazine in 2019, revealing that after Benzino lost his job at Source Magazine and split from her mom, the family struggled financially. In another chat with Vlad TV, she recounted working at 16 and dropping out of school in the 10th grade, which humbled her.

January 2021: The Beginning Of Coi Leray & Benzino’s Feud

Coi and Benzino’s relationship hasn’t always been rocky. He gave her the platform to rise to stardom via his YouTube channel. Coi also previously spoke about how her father’s work ethic inspired her. Despite the praise, she trashed Benzino in her 2021 song, “No More Parties.” Coi rapped, “My daddy let me down, but I promise you, I won’t let up/I wanna say f**k that man but the s**t won’t make me better.”

A displeased Benzino responded via Instagram, lamenting how Coi tarnished his name for a storyline. He also claimed to be there for Coi all her life and said she was raised in a mansion. He said, “Coi had everything she wanted. I was flying Coi to meet every summer, every Spring Break, every—she was in Miami. I got her in a movie… Every Christmas, Thanksgiving, she’s with me.” However, Coi responded to her dad on social media by saying she was embarrassed to be his daughter. Not backing down, Benzino said he found Coi’s comments disrespectful, adding that her words can never be forgiven or forgotten. He also blamed her mom and the industry’s corruptive forces for her behavior.

April 2021: Father & Daughter Settle

A month after trading words with her father on social media, Coi offered an olive branch to her dad by tweeting that she loves him forever and always. However, he called her out, saying she was insincere. Father and daughter eventually settled their feud. Benzino shared his love for Coi in another post. He wrote, “I have one daughter on this earth and I love her dearly. All this drama is now over, please respect that and move on.” In another post, he wrote, “Love you more CC and I’m sorry, if you felt wasn’t there when you needed me I should’ve been and I truly apologize, no excuses.”

April 2022: More Tensions

Coi and Benzino feuded again ahead of the release of her debut album Trendsetter. Coi went on social media and claimed her dad was sending threats to her and her mom because she called him “broke” during an appearance on The Breakfast Club. She asked Benzino to grow up and stop holding on to the past.

Benzino also almost ruined his daughter’s biggest collaboration after he announced her collaboration with Nicki Minaj before it was official. He later apologized for his actions. After the album’s release, Benzino appeared to make fun of Coi’s low album sales and was called out for doing so. However, he claimed his Instagram page was hacked and wondered why people would believe he could make fun of his daughter. Meanwhile, Coi stayed calm and remained positive about her album’s credibility.

May 2022: Coi Leray Supports Her Dad’s Music Rival Eminem

Benzino’s longstanding feud with Eminem reignited in 2022 when he criticized the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for inducting Eminem. A day after her father’s comments, Coi voiced her support for Eminem. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she said, “I’m about love, equality, respect and forgiveness. I have nothing against Eminem, 25 years of my life all I know is he a very talented artist and actor ! (8 Mile was great).” Coi concluded, “Let’s build bridges and get over them before you burn the bridge and burn with it.” Benzino responded to his daughter’s post by asking her to honor her father and mother. He also wrote, “As far as burning bridges, there no bridge bigger than the one you burnt with your own blood.”

July 2023: Coi Leray and Benzino At Peace Again

Coi and her dad seemed to take positive steps to repair their relationship in 2023 when Benzino attended her set at Rolling Loud Miami. This was the first time he had seen her perform live. During an interview with People, Coi shared that Rihanna’s forgiveness of her own father inspired her to mend her relationship with Benzino.

November 2023: Coi Leray Says Her Dad Is Envious of Her Success

In November 2023, Coi appeared on Angie Martinez’s IRL Podcast. During the interview, Angie asked her how her dad deals with her success. “At first it was rocky, because I felt like he couldn’t handle my success. I felt like it came from an envious place, which is okay, cause he’s human, and it’s fine,” she said. “He’s one of those people that feel like ‘Yo, I still have a story to tell.’”

Benzino responded to those comments via social media. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he described her words as the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. Benzino also blamed the internet and the industry for messing with the young generation’s minds. He expressed frustration at how Coi pushed a false narrative about him, describing it as sad and embarrassing. He also said Angie manipulated Coi to say what she said.

May 2024: Coi Leray Disowns Benzino

After months of silence, Coi caused a stir on social media on May 1, 2024, after she disowned her father. Initially, she posted, “I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on.” Coi expressed that she doesn’t respect her dad’s decisions and urged people not to think of her when they see him. She emphasized that DNA does not make a family, but loyalty, respect, and love do. Coi also expressed her desire to have a kid and show them love one day.

Coi’s posts came after her father’s comments about R. Kelly. Benzino appeared on the We In Miami podcast and declared that R. Kelly should be given a second chance. He said, “Everyone deserves a second chance. I know that [Elvis Presley], a lot of motherf—-s was f—g with young girls.” Days after Coi’s posts, Benzino confirmed they weren’t on speaking terms.

June 2024: Benzino Brings Up Daughter’s Virginity While Defending R. Kelly Comments

Benzino caused more stir with his comments during an appearance on the Famous & Wealthy podcast. He said about his daughter, “She made a comment about the R. Kelly situation and said that she doesn’t want to have anything to do with me.” The 58-year-old recalled Coi’s interview with Matt Hoffa in which she revealed she lost her virginity at 14. Benzino claimed he didn’t know Coi lost her virginity at 14 and questioned her moral grounds for disowning him over his comments on R. Kelly. He said, “Since you did involve yourself, which is what you do, alright? How can you say that when you just said that you lost your virginity at 14? So is the guy that you lost your virginity at 14 [to], is he a pedophile?”

Benzino faced backlash as people on social media wondered how he could use his daughter’s virginity loss at 14 to defend his support for a convicted criminal. Coi has yet to respond to her father’s most recent comments. However, it is unlikely they will mend their broken relationship soon.

Benzino Questions Coi Leray Disowning Him Over R. Kelly Comments, Scrutinizes Her Loss Of Virginity

Benzino still feels a type of way after his daughter Coi Leray expressed disappointment in him over his defense of R. Kelly, effectively disowning him and their familial bond. Moreover, he recently appeared on the Famous & Wealthy podcast and spoke about her reaction to his take on the disgraced R&B singer. Speficially, the Source co-founder brought up an interview that Coi did with Math Hoffa on his My Expert Opinion podcast some time ago, in which she revealed that she lost her virginity at the age of 14. This rubs her father the wrong way given her outright condemnation of his R. Kelly comments and wants her to expand upon this.

“She made a comment about the R. Kelly situation and said that she doesn’t want to have anything to do with me,” Benzino’s thoughts began. “Because of the R. Kelly thing. And I’m saying -– but then, right? Four months ago, she’s on the Math Hoffa show. And Math Hoffa -– which I thought, you know, was a kind of crazy question. But hey… Like she said, she’s grown, you know what I’m saying? She’s of age, I don’t think they’re grown sometimes. But anyways, alright, alright. But he asked her, ‘Hey, when did you lose your virginity?’ She said at 14.

Benzino Speaks On Coi Leray Disowning Him Over R. Kelly Comments

“Now first, right, I didn’t know, you know what I’m saying?” Benzino continued. “Right, so I’m like… So here you are condemning me for saying what I’m saying, which is a grown folks’ conversation. Which I never mentioned you. Which, really, you shouldn’t have even really involved yourself because this was a conversation that I’m having. But since you did involve yourself, which is what you do, alright? How can you say that when you just said that you lost your virginity at 14? So is the guy that you lost your virginity at 14 [to], is he a pedophile?

At this point, it’s very unclear whether Benzino and Coi Leray will ever truly make up and avoid conflicts like this in the future. They have always been at odds, but also found common ground to forgive each other over and move forward. With this in mind, arguably the most serious situation and clash the two have had so far, the future looks a bit more bleak. But there’s always a chance for folks to grow as long as they accept accountability and due consequence for their mistakes.

Coi Leray Explores The Ups & Downs Of Love On “Lemon Cars” EP

Coi Leray is someone who is always looking to work on her versatility. Whether it be exploring R&B, rap, or even pop, the Massachusetts is the definition of a true multi-hyphenate. Coi Leray is showcasing that once again on her latest EP Lemon Cars. The 27-year-old announced the Mike WiLL Made-It joint project a few weeks ago over social media and she mentioned that she was going to be ushering in a new era for 2024. “It’s feeling good for yourself; looking in the mirror and just loving yourself. 2024 is going to be my grown and sexy era,” according to HipHopDX. “I’m taking over this year. I’ve got so much new music and a whole new side of me to get to know.”

She is definitely committing to that across this six-song effort. Across the project, Coi is exploring the different sides of love, breakups, and promiscuity. For example, on the opener and one of three singles, “Lemon Cars,” she talks about the latter and living for the nightlife. “We Time” sees Coi deeply in love and probably at her most vulnerable. “I need we time, take your sweet time / You and me time, show me that you mine / I need we time, take your sweet time / You and me time, show you what it’s like.”

On top of switching up the topics, Coi is also performing over severely different instrumentals to match the vibes she is delivering. For instance, on “Coke Bottle Baby” with Skilla Baby, which is all about flexing her body, the duo raps over a strip club-ready trap beat. Coi fans should enjoy this offering, as it definitely sees her take a more mature angle on topics. All the while, she is bringing some interesting production choices with the help of frequent collaborator Mike WiLL.

Coi Leray Drops A Steamy & Soaked Thirst Trap On A Boat With Her Friends

Coi Leray really knows how to take advantage of lust, and what better way to do so than on a boat trip with your friends? Moreover, she posted a new thirst trap on her Instagram Story with some twerking clips, ocean views, and what seems like an overall good time riding waves. The Massachusetts rapper has a lot to look forward to for the rest of 2024, and it’s at least heartening to see her take some time to just have fun and not have to tie a promo single or partnership to it. Whether or not you like what you see, she certainly does, and she’s never indicated that she cares about anything other than her own satisfaction online.

However, as hinted at before, Coi Leray also knows well how to have her fun, show it off for the ‘Gram, and get some streams off of it, too. For example, she recently previewed the title track to her Mike WiLL Made-It-produced EP, Lemon Cars, with some pole dancing, which certainly caught people’s eyes. The release of COI last year suggested that maybe things would be more quiet on the release front for 2024, but that’s proving to be a miscalculation. Either way, there’s probably going to be even more in store considering this prolific run as of late.

Coi Leray’s Latest IG Thirst Trap

Sadly, all these updates also coincided with some unfortunate family rifts concerning Coi Leray’s father, Benzino. “It’s unfortunate,” he said of their estranged relationship, which stemmed in large part from his controversial R. Kelly comments, on the We In Miami podcast. “But, you know, we don’t communicate too much. The whole thing is surreal to me… I’m a smart guy, but I can’t figure this one out… Coi is a young lady, she independent. This young generation, they don’t want their parents interfering with their lives, man.”

I have to learn to adapt to that and respect that,” Benzino said of his daughter Coi Leray. “It just ain’t Coi, it’s a lot of my daughters. It’s hard for guys like me to have daughters and try to figure it out. Not the easiest thing… I was the hero. My daughter looked up to me her whole life.”

Coi Leray Previews Mike WiLL Made-It-Produced EP With Title Track “Lemon Cars”

About 24 hours ago, Massachusetts rapper and singer Coi Leray was going a little viral after The Neighborhood Talk shared a video of her showing off her stripper moves. It turns out that it was a music video shoot for a new single. The track is called “Lemon Drop,” and it is the title track for a new collaborative EP between Coi Leray and a famous producer. She has worked with some of the very best, and in this case it is Mike WiLL Made-It.

According to Rap-Up, the project will be executive produced by the Marietta, Georgia native. Additionally, the new offering, which will follow-up another Coi Leray, Blue Moon, will drop on May 24. There is a strong possibility that the singles “Wanna Come Thru” and “Can’t Come Back,” will make the cut too. “Lemon Cars,” sees Leray lay down some auto-tuned singing over a dreamy instrumental about being a party girl.

Coi Leray’s Blurry-Eyed ‘Lemon Cars’ Video Sympathizes With Strip Club Struggles

The hustle is real in the video for Coi Leray‘s new synthpop single, “Lemon Cars.” While Coi is primarily known as a rapper, she’s been known to dabble in other genres, and that’s exactly what she does for this sympathetic review of a strip club employee’s nightly struggles. The title appears to be a reference to the protagonist’s tendency to get so inebriated that she mixes up the terms “lemon drop” and “fancy cars.” The character is so caught up in the hustle, that she loses track of time and her sense of self, but knows that living in a blur risks eventually hitting a wall.

The video gives Coi another chance to show off her growing pole dance skills as she embodies the burnt-out protagonist, going from the club’s stage to its bar and back to keep herself from feeling the exhaustion of the paper chase. On her Twitter account (not “X,” be serious), Coi elaborated on the song’s pro-stripper philosphy.

“I know strippers who own houses , businesses, real deal boss ass bitches get money bitches,” she wrote. “some with degrees and some without ! But I know the hustle speaks for itself every time . Come correct when you speaking on strippers . Tuh! Keep doing you ladies!”

Benzino Admits He Doesn’t Talk To Daughter Coi Leray Anymore

Benzino’s career has been defined by difficult relationships. He rose to fame by picking a fight with Eminem in the 2000s, and the men continue to take shots at each other two decades later. The more tragic relationship, however, has been between Benzino and his daughter, Coi Leray. Leray has put together a successful rap career, but she’s been in a constant push-and-pull in terms of where she stands with her father. She recently claimed to have disowned Benzino after he made controversial comments about R Kelly.

Leray’s announcement was made via X (formerly Twitter) on May 1. She made it crystal clear that she will no longer have Benzino in her life. Fans may have interpreted the tweet as an impulsive response, but the latter confirmed it when he appeared on the We In Miami pod. Ironically, We In Miami is the same pod on which Benzino made his initial R Kelly comments.

Benzino Is Trying To Respect His Daughter’s Wishes

The host asked the former Source editor where he was at with his daughter, and he was brutally honest. “It’s unfortunate,” he noted. “But, you know, we don’t communicate too much. The whole thing is surreal to me… I’m a smart guy but I can’t figure this one out.” Benzino went on to interpret Leray’s side of the story, and posit a reason why she has decided to go silent. “Coi is a young lady, she independent,” he explained. This young generation, they don’t want their parents interfering with their lives man.”

Benzino’s account became even more heartbreaking when he revealed that he’s on the outs with some of his other kids as well. “I have to learn to adapt to that and respect that,” he added. “It just ain’t Coi, it’s a lot of my daughters. It’s hard for guys like me to have daughters and try to figure it out. Not the easiest thing.”

Benzino claimed that his closeness with Coi Leray was compromised when she became a popular rapper. “I was the hero,” he asserted. “My daughter looked up to me her whole life” Benzino told the host that he hopes it’s merely a phase, and that him and Leray are able to repair their relationship at some point in the future. Leray has meanwhile gotten attention for the wrong reasons on X. She recently tweeted that she was the female version of Lil Uzi Vert, and the hip-hop community let her know that wasn’t the case.
