City Girls Make Headlines With Awkward Dreamville Festival Interview: Video

JT and Yung Miami, best known to the world as the City Girls, have come a long way since their humble beginnings in 2017. In 2023 so far, they’ve already performed at Rolling Loud California (where they previewed an upcoming release called “Piñata”), as well as this past weekend’s Dreamville Festival. Not only did the girls join Usher on stage during his headlining set to rap “Good Love,” but they also showed out during a performance of their own, which heard them revisit plenty of fan favourites from their discography.

During the show, the City Girls wore matching brown leather looks, complete with sultry thigh-high boots and flashy silver chains. For her glam, Caresha wore her long black hair in waves down to her booty. JT’s short, chocolate brown locks were in soft, shoulder-length curls. Following the concert, the partners in rhyme sat down for an interview, though the cameras caught Lil Uzi Vert’s girlfriend in a world of her own as the media personalities asked them questions.

Awkward Interview Moment

“Who are your favourites right now?” the host asked the “Act Up” artists, leading to an undeniably hilarious moment of silence from everyone. “Whoever wants to go first,” she later added as the tension continued to build. “I think it’s cool, I love to see everybody thriving!” Yung Miami said. “I feel like everybody deserves a chance, so to see everyone trying to feed their family and do what they love, it’s an amazing thing.” As for who she has her eye on that’s on the come up right now, the City Girl said Lola Brooke and Ice Spice.

During their time at Rolling Loud, the rap duo went through a similar encounter with another media personality, Tamera Kissen, who was accused of acting “unprofessionally” while speaking with her subjects at the California festival. Megan Thee Stallion Says The First Female Rapper She Heard Besides Her Mom Was Lil Kim: “Damn!”

She’s a leading force for women in the Rap game, and Megan Thee Stallion is sharing how she was first introduced to ladies in Hip Hop. The Traumazine hitmaker has spoken about her mother, Holly Thomas, being an artist. Watching her mother work on her craft and beast out bars in the studio inspired Megan to walk a similar path. Sadly, Thomas passed away in 2019 after a bout with cancer, and her death arrived when Megan entered the mainstream scene. The “WAP” collaborator caught up with Hulu’s RapCaviar Presents to speak about her introduction to women in Rap.

“My mom was a rapper, right? She was a female rapper, but I had never heard of women being rappers ever because my mom was listening to UGK, Three 6 Mafia,” she said in a teaser. “My daddy [listened to] Lil Wayne, like, we only listening to men in the house. But one day, my mom put on Lil Kim. Damn! She raps harder than a lot of these guys!” Meanwhile, City Girls had a different outlook, as they were surrounded by influences with ladies on the mic.

Megan Thee Stallion & City Girls Have Different Introductions To Femcees

“It was a lot of women in music when I was growing up. It was f*ckin’ Foxy Brown, Missy Elliott, Left Eye, Eve,” said JT. Simone Mitchell, the President of Quality Control Music, also noted that in past generations of Hip Hop, femcees have dominated with “raunchy” Rap. We’re seeing a resurgence in this current culture. The teaser ended by stating that Nicki Minaj “kind of brought it back to the forefront.” That should make for an episode that sparks several social media conversations.

RapCaviar began as a Spotify playlist and has become a phenomenon, and we will see several artists sit down to share insight into their perspectives on the genre. Tyler, The Creator and Pharrell also detailed career-changing advice the “Happy” hitmaker gave to the Igor star. Roddy Ricch and Coi Leray will tackle the topic of negativity and backlash on social media during a time when platforms help artists gain fame. Hulu Dropped A New ‘RapCaviar Presents’ Trailer, Featuring City Girls, Tyler The Creator, Roddy Ricch, And More

One of Spotify’s most-followed playlists is coming to life on-screen. Today (March 22), Hulu has unveiled the official trailer for RapCaviar Presents, an upcoming hip-hop documentary series.

Over the course of six episodes, RapCaviar Presents will cover an array of topics, including mental health and trauma, misogyny, and sexism in the industry; hate and negativity online; and the use of rap lyrics as evidence in court. The participating acts will also touch on their journeys breaking through in the industry, and some of the roadblocks they’ve run into along the way.

In the trailer, fans can see clips of concert footage, studio sessions, and talking heads of their favorite rappers weighing in on the aforementioned topics.

Appearing in the six episodes are City Girls, Tyler The Creator, Polo G, Roddy Ricch, Coi Leray, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Bobby Shmurda and more.

Additionally, several hip-hop and culture experts will be providing commentary throughout the series, including journalists Ivie Anie and Jamilah Lemieux, along with Uproxx’s own hip-hop editor Aaron Williams.

City Girls Prepare To Dominate Another Summer In New Song Snippet: Listen

The return of the City Girls is imminent and their new snippet indicates that they’ll have the summer in a chokehold, once again. The Miami-based duo returned to the fold on Saturday with a preview of new music that will serve as an anthem for the coming months. Their Instagram page shared an official snippet of the song, which is rumored to be titled, “Lay It Down.” JT and Yung Miami initially previewed the record nearly a year ago. 

With an official snippet, they could be ramping up for a brand new album in the near future. In the three years window since releasing City On Lock, the “Act Up” rappers shared a handful of singles, and several previews of new City Girls music, without a concrete timeline of when we could expect a new project after pushing it back. As a July 2022 release date approached – the same day as Beyoncé’s Renaissance – Yung Miami said they needed to delay its release, citing “issues.” Some felt as though it was because City Girls didn’t want to compete with Bey, which JT denied, tweeting, “​​Our album NOT finished!!!! TF.”

The City Girls Rev Up For Summer 2023 On New Snippet

Prior to releasing a new snippet of music, City Girls indicated that they’ll be coming through with new heat for the summer. Just before the Caresha, Please host’s acting debut on BMF, JT, and Yung Miami returned to the stage for Rolling Loud California with new music to perform. Many became excited over the possibilities of a City Girls summer, especially after taking some time apart. The release of the new City Girls snippet also aligns with Yung Miami’s February announcement that we could expect a new project in “Spring, Summer.”

Their return to the fold should debunk any speculation that JT and Yung Miami will be splitting up. Though JT confirmed that she doesn’t see her beefing with Yung Miami, she explained that she hopes they can continue to have a prosperous career together as the City Girls. However, JT confirmed that there isn’t any possibility of that happening during an interview with Angie Martinez. “I do not see beefin’ and breaking up with the City Girls at all. Ever!
