Tina Knowles Divulges About Beyonce’s Advice To Blue Ivy On Handling Haters

If you recall the massive hype behind Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE tour, one of the most talked-about details was her daughter Blue Ivy’s dancing performance throughout. Though she got a lot of due praise from fans, others were more critical of it online, which represented some overblown standards and unjustified hate for some die-hards. Now, Blue’s grandmother Tina Knowles spoke out on the matter during a recent interview with Vogue‘s The Run Through podcast. Specifically, she revealed some interesting aspects of the advice that Queen Bey gave her daughter when it comes to dealing with negative attention and a lot of scrutiny.

Furthermore, Tina Knowles began by remarking on how blown away she and Jay-Z were by Blue Ivy’s dancing performance during the “My Power” and “Black Parade” cuts of the RENAISSANCE tour. She called her moves “the best” and recalled how “every night, her dad and me would get on this platform out there and we would just be screaming our heads off, like, with no shame at all.” Of course, some of the negativity towards Blue hampered this otherwise glowing family reception, which must have been somewhat of a blow. Then, Tina Knowles explained what Beyoncé had to say about this experience.

“One of her friends came back and showed her some negative comments and it was a great life lesson,” Tina Knowles said of Blue Ivy and Beyoncé. “Because her mom basically said, ‘Listen, if you let this get you down, then they won. So you should go and work harder. And, you know, just work harder and get your skills together and go out there and blast it.’ So it actually worked in Blue’s favor because she was only supposed to do it one time. But now her mom was, that mama bear was on to it. It was like, she was like, ‘You go out there and kill it,’ and she did. She just grew so much from that experience.”

Meanwhile, Beyoncé had previously revealed during the RENAISSANCE tour documentary that Blue Ivy advocated hard for herself to stay on the show after what was supposed to be just one performance. “She told me she was ready to perform, and I told her no,” the Houston superstar stated. This part of the film also centered around how devastating the negative comments could feel at times. When Sasha Fierce is there to push you forward and see the fruits of your hard work, that’s got to tune the haters out pretty well.

Post Malone Teases New Country Collab With Blake Shelton

Post Malone has pushed hip-hop into some interesting directions. He got his start as a crooning rapper, but the more time passes, and the more ambitious he becomes, the harder it gets to categorize his style. We’re talking about an artist who has collabs with both Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osborne. A guy who just put out a smash single with Morgan Wallen. It should then come as no surprise that the next artist Post Malone has in mind for a collaboration is country superstar Blake Shelton.

Post Malone shared a video of the untitled collab on his Instagram. The video footage sees the artist crack open a beer and vibe out in a recording studio, while the audio gives us our first hint of what his and Shelton’s voices sound like together. Spoiler: they sound pretty good. The song has an uptempo party feel, which plays to the strengths of both artists. It falls within the wheelhouse of their lyrical focuses, which is partying and having a good time (when it’s not about being heartbroken).

Post Malone Teased His Uptempo Country Hit On IG

“Somebody pour me a drink, somebody bum me a smoke,” Malone and Shelton sing in unison. “I’m ’bout to get on a buzz/ I’m ’bout to get on a roll. I’ve been breaking my back, just keepin’ up with the Joneses.” It’s ironic that Post Malone’s credibility with country fans has been bolstered by the likes of Wallen and Blake Shelton, given that he was one of the features on Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter album. The fact that Queen Bey felt his inclusion was warranted only speaks to his impressive blurring of genre lines.

Post Malone has been vocal about his love for country music in the past. The “White Iverson” rapper told podcast host Joe Rogan that it’s one of his favorite genres. He made a point of drawing the line between traditional country and some of the radio-friendly stuff, though.

“The whole Johnny Cash… he always sang murder ballads,” Malone noted. “It’s the old school production, it’s the old school voice. And I find a lot of the time in country now, it’s very overproduced… Whenever I’m listening to that [country], it makes me feel like I’m a hard a*s.” We’re curious to see how the artist threads the needle between this old school country and the radio-friendly music he makes.

Jaguar Wright Claims That Jay-Z Groomed A Teenage Rihanna

Jaguar Wright has had a lot to say about Diddy in the midst of his downfall. The R&B singer claimed that Diddy has a tape of a woman being murdered, and taunted the mogul to release it as a means of delaying his own legal troubles. “Show them the tape Diddy, you’ve got it,” she taunted. “That might buy you a little time… We’re gonna hang you high, b*tch.” Wright took things a step further on May 23, however, when she claimed that Jay-Z is the next New York rap icon that will go down.

Wright appeared on the Street Stars podcast to discuss Jay-Z’s alleged crimes. The singer was asked what it would take for the Roc-A-Fella icon to fall from grace, and she responded with a name. “I don’t know [what it will take], but I got an idea that Evan Rogers is gonna help me figure that out,” she noted. “Evan was the producer who only seemed to work on teeny-bopper projects.” She then claimed that he played a role in Jay-Z’s discovery and subsequent mentorship of Rihanna in the 00s. “[Evan] discovered Rihanna at 3 am in a hotel room,” Wright alleged. “On the island where she comes from, with no parental supervision.”

The accusations don’t stop there. Wright claims that Rihanna was then put on a private plane as a minor. “From one country to another,” she elaborated. “And she ended up in a boardroom with Mr. Carter.” The singer told the hosts they should consider taking a look at the lyrics of Rihanna’s 2016 album Anti. “That album cover was disturbing,” she posited. “A child bride, with a crown on her head and blood smeared over her face… I don’t know, how come people don’t see SOS’s.”

Jay-Z and Rihanna’s personal history has been subject of lots of speculation. Especially given that the former is 19 years younger than the former Def Jam President. Listeners have theorized that Jay-Z wrote his verse on the 2006 song “Young Girl” about Rihanna, which is unnerving if any of Wright’s claims are true. In the interest of full disclosure, Jaguar Wright has made accusations towards Hov and Beyonce in the past. Some involving Diddy. The singer claimed that Diddy paid Jay a whopping $100K to sleep with Beyonce, but none of her claims to date have been substantiated.

Beyoncé And Jay-Z Are Getting Sued Over Alleged Copyright Infringement On A ‘Renaissance’ Song

You may not be able to break Beyoncé’s soul, but it’s at least about to be tested: She’s currently facing a new lawsuit accusing her of copyright infringement, The Guardian reports.

Beyoncé, Big Freedia, Jay-Z, and Sony Music are named as defendants in the lawsuit, and it’s centered on Freedia’s “Explode,” which is sampled on “Break My Soul.” Da Showstoppaz claim that “Explode” infringes the copyright of their 2002 song “Release A Wiggle”: “Explode” features the phrase “release your wiggle” repeated and that part of the song is sampled on “Break My Soul.”

The suit claims “Explode” used “unique and distinctive lyrics and musical composition” originally from Da Showstoppaz and adds, “Defendants used plaintiffs’ words, melody, and musical arrangement from their copyrighted works. […] Any reasonable person listening to ‘Release A Wiggle’ and ‘Explode’ would conclude that the songs are substantially similar.”

Da Showstoppaz’s Tessa Avie, Keva Bourgeois, Henri Braggs, and Brian Clark are seeking to receive credits on both “Break My Soul” and “Explode,” and are aiming to receive royalties from the songs’ future earnings, along with damages.

Meanwhile, in more positive news for Beyoncé and Jay-Z, both artists made it onto the Apple Music list of the 100 best albums ever that has been blowing up the internet lately. Jay-S has one album on the list and Beyoncé has two, including one in the top 10.

Lil Nas X Is ‘Happy’ For The Country Music Success Of Beyoncé And Shaboozey, But Feels Left Out

Country music is having a moment, and unsurprisingly, there are some new faces at the forefront of its breakthrough, — faces like Beyoncé’s, Shaboozey’s, and Tanner Adell’s. However, there’s one pioneer in the genre who doesn’t quite feel like he got the same love as they’re receiving now.

In a May 19 interview with BBC, Lil Nas X said that he was “happy” for the country music successes of artists like Beyoncé and Shaboozey, but that he feels a little left out. “I wish this would have happened for me,” he said. “I wasn’t even able to experience this.”

Nas appears to be referring to the reception of his breakout hit “Old Town Road,” which despite breaking records on the Billboard Hot 100 as the longest-running No. 1 ever, was never truly embraced by the country music establishment. The song was actually pulled from the country music chart initially for not sounding “country” enough, and received a chilly reception from country radio programmers. It did go on to win a CMA Award, but not without controversy.

And while Beyoncé may have had a rough road onto those country trails, it took far less fussing and fighting for her single “Texas Hold ‘Em” to enter country airplay after her label reviewed its metadata, and her album Cowboy Carter was widely well-received, landing at No. 1 in its first week despite the big change in sound for Beyoncé.

Lil Nas X Has Surprising Take On Beyonce & Shaboozey’s Country Music Success

Lil Nas X’s mainstream reign began with the rap-country crossover hit “Old Town Road,” one that feels very distinct from his career trajectory today. While this remains the longest-running No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history with 19 weeks, the divisiveness that this track caused in the country and rap space was often hostile. The Georgia native faced a lot of backlash for it, a curious contrast to how other Black artists’ forays into country, namely Beyoncé’s and Shaboozey’s, got praise five years later. Speaking to BBC, he reflected on how he feels about their success when compared to his own experience with genre-blending.

“I wish this would have happened for me,” Lil Nas X told the outlet on Sunday (May 19), clarifying that he’s “happy” for Beyonce and Shaboozey regardless of his thoughts on the matter. “I wasn’t even able to experience this.” Not only that, but he also told BBC that he’s been “trying out some country [sounds] here and there over the last couple of years.” “I want to feel connected to it and not force it,” the MONTERO artist added.

Lil Nas X Performing At Coachella 2024

Of course, Lil Nas X went on to develop his career in many other genres, whether it’s indie or commercial stylings of pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop, and even folk. For example, his recent collaboration with Camila Cabello, “HE KNOWS,” caught pretty positive reception leading up to her upcoming pop album, so we’ll see what happens with that. Still, it’s very natural to see how “Old Town Road” simply arrived at a more difficult time for genre crossovers. Regardless of its reception and prompted debates on impact, it partially paved the way for Beyonce and Shaboozey to fully challenge the notion that Black artists should be boxed into certain musical styles.

Meanwhile, Queen Bey might be prepping a tour soon, which obviously has fans very excited. Hopefully she and Lil Nas X, along with Shaboozey, can foment more collaboration between a myriad of Black artists, especially those in country that are experiencing a lot of due acclaim right now. Would this result in an even bigger hit in the same vein as “Old Town Road,” “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM,” or “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”? Only time will tell.

BET Awards 2024 Nominations: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist

On June 30, celebrities and fans will gather for the 2024 BET Awards. In the category of Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, several phenomenal women have been nominated. All the artists up for the award released some of their best music in the past year, which means it could go one of eight ways. Between the first-time nominee Victoria Monét and the Queen of the BET Awards, Beyoncé, there’s no telling who will emerge victorious. Nonetheless, it’s been a wonderful time for R&B and Pop music, and these women are at the forefront of the genre right now.

With ten wins out of 18 nominations, Beyoncé is both the most awarded and the most nominated in the category. SZA won the award last year and is also up for the trophy again. New faces include Muni Long, who achieved viral success once again with “Made For You,” and the Amapiano Princess, Tyla. All women deserve their flowers for delivering exceptional music and performances over the past year. Here are the eight women nominated for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist at the 2024 BET Awards.

Beyoncé

She needs no introduction. Beyoncé has picked up ten wins in this category and is looking to extend her number of wins to 11. Her first win came in 2004, and 20 years later, she is up against a new crop of artists. This testament to her longevity and legacy is evident in her constant reinvention of her artistry. Following her acclaimed Renaissance World Tour and its accompanying film, it’s no surprise why Queen Bey has emerged as the third most nominated act at the upcoming 2024 BET Awards.

Tyla

Tyla is a first-time nominee in this category and boasts four nods at the 2024 BET Awards. The South African starlet achieved worldwide success in 2023 with her viral hit “Water.” Since then, it’s been up for Tyla. The smash hit made waves across the globe, stamping her name into people’s consciousness. She’s currently raising the bar with her sound and pushing the gospel of Amapiano music to the rest of the world. She’s arguably the underdog of not just the category but the entire ceremony.

Victoria Monét

Once upon a time, Victoria Monét was known more for her songwriting prowess. Today, she’s one of the biggest names in music. After the massive success of her debut album, Jaguar II, the world now knows her as an artist and performer in her own right. At the upcoming 2024 BET Awards, Monét is nominated for four awards and will also perform on the main stage.

Coco Jones

After a steady ascent to mainstream stardom, Coco Jones is now here to stay. She earned her first nomination in this category last year and can now boast of back-to-back nods. Early last year, she released the deluxe edition of her acclaimed EP, What I Didn’t Tell You. Since then, she has been all over, boosting her popularity through Christmas music and multiple live performances.

Doja Cat

In 2023, Doja Cat made the confident leap back to her rap roots. Evidently, the gamble she took on herself paid off. Scarlet, her fourth album, was a definitive body of work. While she’s stirred up some controversy in the past year, Doja’s talents have never been up for question. With a perfect blend of Hip Hop, R&B, and trap, Scarlet proved Doja’s ability to rap alongside the best of them. She has been hard at work the last few months, completing the North American leg of The Scarlet Tour.

H.E.R.

She may have just one studio album to her name, but H.E.R. is R&B royalty. Since 2018, she has been nominated in this category and has gained yet another nod at the 2024 BET Awards. Altogether, she has seven nods, making her the third most nominated woman in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category. Since her 2023 nomination, H.E.R. sang on The Color Purple soundtrack, joined Coldplay on tour, and performed with Usher at the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Muni Long

Muni Long might have just scored her first award in this category, but she has been hard at work in the industry for years. She’s penned songs for several notable names, from Rihanna to Ariana Grande. After achieving mainstream success with “Hrs and Hrs” in 2022, she continued her run with the viral hit “Made for Me.” As one of three first-time nominees, Muni Long is definitely one of the underdogs of the night. She will also be performing on the main stage at the awards ceremony.

SZA

With five nominations at the 2024 BET Awards, SZA is the third most nominated artist of the night. She’s aiming for a second win, following her success in the category at last year’s ceremony. It comes as no surprise why she’s one of the favorites to win. SZA’s impressive run with SOS continued deep into 2023. In fact, she’s still reaping the rewards of her talents almost two years later. She is currently on the 2024 run of her SOS Tour, with shows scattered across the United States, Europe, Canada, New Zealand, and South America.

Megan Thee Stallion Pays Tribute To Beyonce’s “Mute” Challenge On New Tour

Last year, mega tours completely took over the news cycle. That’s because two of the biggest artists in the world, Taylor Swift and Beyonce, set off on absolutely massive tours. They were far from the only ones touring, but the Eras and Renaissance tours seemingly stole the show. That included fans obsessing over the outfits, tracklists, and set design of both performers. One of the most viral things to spawn from the tours was Beyonce’s mute challenge which saw entire arenas of fans trying to go silent at the same time.

Now Megan Thee Stallion is taking off on her new stadium tour and it could end up being one of the biggest tours of this year. During one of the first shows she paid tribute to her fellow Houston superstar Beyonce by shouting out her mute challenge. Megan’s new tour has been pretty divisive since it was announced as fans debated whether or not she was the caliber of artist to go on an arena tour. She seemingly shut all the dissenters up by selling out numerous shows from her tour, even some months in advance of their actual dates. Check out her interpolation of the mute challenge below.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Own Mute Challenge

Some of Megan’s haters spread claims online that people were being given tickets to her shows as seat fillers. Those allegations got a lot quieter once the videos of a recent show made the rounds online and the packed house seemed very into her performance. She just dropped her new single “BOA” the third snake-themed single from her new album. It follows “COBRA” last yead and “HISS” earlier this year, both of which took aim at some of Meg’s adversities.

What do you think of Megan Thee Stallion paying tribute to Beyonce’s mute challenge during her recent tour stop? Do you plan on seeing Megan perform at one of her tour shows this year? Let us know in the comment section below.

Maya Rudolph As Beyoncé Couldn’t Handle The Southern Heat In A Hilarious ‘Hot Ones’ Parody On ‘SNL’

Beyoncé can do it all — singing, dancing, acting, and recently, launching a haircare brand. And even though she carries hot sauce in her bag — as she noted on her 2016 hit single “Formation” — it’s possible that even she can’t handle the spice level of the wings on Hot Ones. In a Saturday Night Live sketch tonight (May 10), Mikey Day played Hot Ones host Sean Evans in a parody of the iconic YouTube show. Joining Day was tonight’s (May 11) host, Rudolph, as the one-and-only Beyoncé.

Hot off the release of her latest album, Cowboy Carter, Rudolph’s Beyoncé reminds us that she’s a southern country queen. But the flavor and heat of the wings proves to be too much — even for the Queen Bey.

Rudolph’s Beyoncé takes to the first few wings pretty well. But by the time she tries the “Sergeant Sphincter’s Volcanpeño sauce, with a Scoville rating of 530,000,” she appears to meet her match.

“This wing is stompin’ my ass,” she said. “Damn, my bones are hot. That wing was a real one.”

But thanks to the help of Bey’s loyal assistant, De’Raphael (Kenan Thompson), the world, perhaps, might never see Beyoncé in this rather humbling scenario.

You can watch the sketch above.
