Conway Wishes He Could’ve Squashed Benny The Butcher & Freddie Gibbs Beef

The feud between Freddie Gibbs and Benny The Butcher was a sad sight to see. The two lyrical giants became tight comrades who collaborated on records like “Frank Lucas” and “One Way Flight” but things went left after Gibbs dished out a series of shady tweets. Benny and Westside Gunn have publicly expressed their issues with Gibbs in the past but Conway’s remained neutral throughout the drama. During a recent interview with Akademiks on the Off The Record podcast, he explained why he didn’t necessarily intervene.

As you could expect, Conway, more than any other member of Griselda, was in a weird position during the feud. “That n***a Gibbs my n***a, man. I wish that shit never happened,” he explained. “I would love to squash that. I wish I could have. If I was there, I don’t know if that would’ve happened. I’m talking about none of it – not just the shit that they talkin’ about. I’m talking about all the way – the shit that [happened] before.” Besides the largely viral clip of Freddie Gibbs getting jumped in Buffalo, Conway said that he wishes he could’ve intervened before things escalated. Still, he felt like Freddie Gibbs was in the wrong.

Conway On Freddie Vs. Benny

We’re all aware of how Freddie Gibbs moves on the Internet. It’s a trait that resulted in many feuds, including the ongoing saga with Akademiks. Still, Conway understands how Gibbs moves online, which he admits opened the doors for the issues between Griselda and the Gary, IN rapper. “Gibbs, I just know how he do, man. He’s a funny dude on that internet shit and on Twitter and stuff, man. He was wrong, I’ve spoke with people,” he continued. “Like, Gibbs my n***a regardless.”

He continued, “And Benny my cousin, I’m riding with Benny regardless of whatever happens. But if it was up to me, none of that shit would’ve never happened. None of it.” Unfortunately, the issues between Benny and Freddie aren’t something that will be resolved in the near future. In January, Freddie told XXL that he isn’t interested in ending their issues. “ I don’t care enough to solve a beef with a rapper. I don’t care enough,” he explained. “So, I don’t care to squash no beef with nobody. You could hate me forever, and that’s fine with me because you insignificant.” Check Conway’s interview above.

Benny The Butcher Chooses Between “Snowfall” & “Power”

There has been an influx of crime thrillers in recent years exploring the stories of the inner cities, like Power. The series follows the story Ghost and Tommy Egan as they try to balance the streets and legitimate business interests. Meanwhile, a story like Snowfallcreated by John Singleton — brings us back to the 80s and provides a fictionalized account of the rise in crack cocaine in South Central Los Angeles through the eyes of Franklin Saint. Ultimately, both shows have provided us with endless entertainment but it’s hard to choose between the two.

Benny The Butcher recently sparked a debate surrounding the two shows. The Griselda rapper appeared on Instagram Live this week when a fan asked him to choose between the two crime shows. “Snowfall is better,” Benny said as he nodded his head, though he didn’t discount the storyline Power or its spin-offs. “I’m saying Snowfall is better, but, they’re both great shows. I like to see Michael Rainey — I like watching his ascension. He’s fire. He’s getting better and better at his shit. But for some reason, I’m just more drawn in to Snowfall.”

Benny The Butcher: Snowfall vs. Power

Perhaps, it’s not the hottest take imaginable but we could imagine that 50 Cent might not be entirely happy with his personal preference. Snowfall certainly earned Benny The Butcher’s praise, thanks to its stellar cast and an impeccable team of writers. The series is expected to conclude its sixth and final season this week. However, it won’t be the end of the show entirely. FX confirmed that they’re developing a spin-off series that could see Gail Bean reprise her role as Wanda.

Of course, Power produced a series of spin-offs that have transformed it into a franchise. 50 Cent launched Power Book II: Ghost in September 2020, which focuses on Ghost’s son Tariq. The following year, Power Book III: Raising Kanan debuted, serving as a prequel that explores Kanan Stark’s rise. In 2022, they finally blessed fans with the third and final spin-off, Power Book IV: Force which follows Tommy Egan’s move to Chicago, where he tries to take over the drug trade. Benny The Butcher Expects More Rappers To Thank Griselda For Their Careers

The rap game wouldn’t be what it is today without Griselda, according to Benny The Butcher. Though it’s hard to deny that the rise of lyricism is largely due to the Buffalo-based collective’s efforts, Benny believes that more rappers need to be giving them their respect. The sound that emerged from the golden age of rap made a resurgence due to Griselda’s efforts and a lot of rappers were able to make a career because of it. In Benny The Butcher’s opinion, he, Westside Gunn, and Conway deserve all of the flowers.

“These n***as been putting out tapes, and a lot of these n***as been doing their shit, but Griselda is still the standard. We inspire these n***as. We made these n***as believe they can build this shit. These n***as ain’t think they could do it,” he said during his PSA. Benny The Butcher continued to explain that a lot of artists failed to be as persistent as them and eventually, gave up. However, he said that changed once Griselda came out.

Benny The Butcher Doesn’t Think Griselda Gets Its Dues

Once again, Benny reiterated that Griselda set a standard in rap that a lot of artists aspire to reach. “These n***as gave up. You telling them, ‘Nah, fight.’ Ain’t nothing wrong with inspiring n***as. I’m just saying y’all, back to Griselda being the standard. Griselda is the fucking standard. I don’t be hearing thank you from these n***as. These n***as be saying everything, but fucking thank you. I wanna start hearing thank you’s from these n***as man,” he said.

Benny The Butcher is arguably the most vocal artist out of the Griselda clique. Though Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine have echoed similar comments, Benny recently made a similar statement when they were excluded from B. Dot’s best rappers list of 2022. He made it clear that the list couldn’t be an accurate reflection of rap, especially as each artist on the label continued their prolific run. We’ll keep you posted on any more updates surrounding Benny’s grievances with his rap peers. Do you think Griselda deserves more credit? Sound off in the comments.
