Travis Scott’s “WAKE UP” Turns Six: Another Year Where La Flame Was Robbed At The GRAMMYs

The year that most likely started Travis Scott’s confusion with the GRAMMYs was 2018. That’s when the Houston, Texas native put forth his third studio album, ASTROWORLD. Since its release six years ago, it has become one of the biggest projects not just for him, but also in the streaming era. It boasts billions of streams and easily possesses his most hits on one tracklist to date. Additionally, its simply one of the best pop/trap rap LPs of the 2010s decade thanks to some memorable performances from the main attraction and his laundry of guests, as well as the rich and expansive soundscapes. Furthermore, it’s constantly argued as Travis Scott’s best work thanks to songs like “WAKE UP”.

One of two collaborations between him and The Weeknd, it is essentially a raunchy and wavy love letter to their partners at the time. Overall, “WAKE UP” features some of the most creative, playful, and serene instrumentals on the record. It’s just another reason why Scott and Abel are one of the best rapper/singer duos in the mainstream. Moreover, this track is part of the reason why it was snubbed for Best Rap Album. A lot of listeners painfully remember Cardi B’s massive, but not nearly as impactful Invasion of Privacy taking home the GRAMMY.

It may not just be the fact Scott didn’t win that year that still angers so many till this day. It’s also because Pusha T, Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle were also in the running and were denied. All of them made incredible records that year and were more than worthy winners. However, it’s arguably worse for Scott because he could have two wins in this category. Killer Mike winning it this year was definitely a great choice. But at the end of the day, UTOPIA may once again be the more remembered album. Sadly, Scott will have to live with the Run The Jewels MC subliminally taunting him for the rest of his career.

Amber Rose has thrown some shade towards Megan Thee Stallion for performing at a recent rally for Kamala Harris. She discussed the move as well as the Vice President’s ongoing campaign during an interview with Adin Ross. Rose began by admitting that she likes Megan and described her as “a good person.”

However, she added: “I think that she’s pandering to Black people. I think that she thinks that that’s what Black people wanna see in order to vote for her. And I think it’s absolute bulls***.” She continued: “I think that people in general just wanna know the policies. All that, you know, the extra stuff, it’s cool, you know a concert and stuff like that, but what about the policies? How are you gonna ‘Make America Great Again?’ No pun intended!”

When The Shade Room shared the clip on Instagram, fans had mixed responses in the comments section. “A woman that has a tattoo on her forehead & that wore a damn necklace with a huge Donald Trump face on it can’t tell me nothing, bout no pandering,” one user wrote. Los Angeles is set to honor Kobe Bryant with a second statue, this time featuring a memorial of his daughter, Gianna “Gigi” Bryant. Located outside Crypto.com Arena, the new statue joins the previously unveiled 19-foot bronze figurine from February 8, 2024.

The unveiling date of August 2, 2024 (8/2/24), is symbolic, representing both of Bryant’s iconic jersey numbers (8 and 24) and the No. 2 that Gigi wore on the basketball court. The statue will be available for public viewing beginning Saturday morning.

This latest tribute continues to celebrate the legacy of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, ensuring their memory remains an integral part of the Los Angeles sports community.

Mustard Claimed Album Sales Were ‘A Form Of White Supremacy,’ But Fans Believe The Producer’s Declaration Has Other Ego-Driven Roots

Mustard produced Kendrick Lamar’s chart-topping Drake diss track, “Not Like Us.” However, it seems that momentum hasn’t translated over into his personal projects.

On July 26, the acclaimed producer dropped his latest album, Faith Of A Mustard Seed. Now, the first week sells projections are supposedly in. According to Akademiks, the body of work sold 18k units.

As users online began to declare the album a “flop,” Mustard made a bold claim on his personal X (formerly Twitter) page. “Album sales are a form of white supremacy you n****s racist,” he wrote.

He then sent a jab Drake’s way before turning his attention to Akademiks, writing: “Drake is the Malcolm X of white people 😂 and Akademiks make sure you post Gordo’s first week since Drake thought he did a thing with making him drop on the same day as me 😂.”

However, fans didn’t let Mustard’s first declaration pass without pushing back. One pointed out that Ice Spice’s debut album Y2K out sold his, to which he was left speechless.

Many began to dogpile Mustard as they referenced his past reaction to his 2019 album, Perfect Ten, first week sells.

“Now it’s racism, should’ve got Carti up there again, maybe you would’ve moved some units,” penned one user.

“It’s only racist when your album flops. If your album sold well, you’d be flexing your sales 😂😂😭😭,” laughed another.

“No album sales represent if your audience / the marketplace actually like what you produce. Clearly they don’t like you. Stop playing the race card,” chimed another.

But several people jumped in to side with Mustard. “Too many people take numbers way too seriously. Let the music speak,” argued one user.

“Plenty of artists drop projects that have low sales In the beginning for it to go platinum later,” added another.

“I hate how people use album sales as a metric to grade how good and powerful the music is. If you changed one person’s life while they listened to any of the tracks, you already won, man,” wrote one user.

The public’s tracking of first week sells has been used to instigate multiple rap feuds.

Big Sean’s “Out Of Context” interview with Charlamagne tha God has been making the rounds online thanks to a few viral soundbites from the Detroit artist. Out of all of the topics covered, his perspective on his rocky relationship with Kendrick Lamar and his exclusion in “Big Three” talks drew in a lot of ears. However, we feel that there is something that trumps all of that. At the 26:55 mark in their talk, Sean reflects with Charlamagne about the beginning stages of what has turned into be quite the successful career in music.

According to HipHopDX, he tears up remembering a point in which he was unsure about pursuing this dream of becoming a rapper. He starts off by going back to his high school days when he made a list that had the top five labels he would want to be on. “I had found this list before I rapped for Ye that I wrote down. I was lightweight into it, but I was just busy… [The] list said ‘G.O.O.D. Music, No.1. 2 Roc-A-Fella. No. 3 Shady Records. 4 Grand Hustle. No. 5 Interscope.’” Sean later added, “G.O.O.D. Music was number one, and I saw that, and I was on that path. It was one of them omens, it was just one little thing I needed to realize, ‘I can do this, bro. I met Ye and rapped for him. He said he wanted to sign me.’”

Big Sean’s Career Turned Out Just Fine In The End

However, that is when things took a turn for the worse. Sean mentioned that depression began to settle in, causing him to rethink. “I just manifested and visualized the paperwork coming in. In that time, bro, in that one year, I was so depressed that I just wanted to give up bad”. Because of this, he even began to consider community college, and his grandma was in agreement. However, things changed in his head once his mom convinced him to keep pushing. “I just remember my mom being like, ‘What are you doing?’ It was a moment, dawg”. That’s when Sean began to tear up and thank her for being a believer. “I’m just thankful I had these guardian angels in my life, like my mom, just coming in the form of anything”.

Suge Knight has already made some seriously shocking claims on his prison podcast, and his most recent involved Jennifer Lopez and Diddy’s alleged secret tapes. In a new episode of Collect Call, the former Death Row boss shared his theory on J-Lo’s rumored divorce from her husband of two years, Ben Affleck. According to him, it’s possible that the FBI confiscated tapes from Diddy during the raids of his mansions earlier this year, and that some of them included Lopez.

Obviously, this is unconfirmed. From there, however, he speculated that the FBI contacted Affleck about the tapes and caused a rift in his relationship with Lopez. “I’m quite sure they [FBI] probably called,” Knight said. “And the FBI gave respect and a courtesy call to Ben Affleck. It’s a white man who got respect in the white world. I’m quite sure they said, ‘We want to show you some things about your wife.’”

Ty Dolla $ign & Kanye West Announce “VULTURES 2” Listening Party In Utah

With the excitement mostly at its peak for VULTURES 2 at the time of writing, Ty Dolla $ign and Kanye West are announcing yet another listening party. The former of the tandem shared the news via his Instagram just about an hour ago and it marks the third one for the album. Ty revealed the first one back on July 6 for Korea, which is now 20 days away. Then, the multi-hyphenate made his followers know about their future visit to Taiwan on July 25. That will go down two days later on August 25. That leads us to today, as Ty and Ye will be hitting the road, and heading to Salt Lake City to give the fans a special one-night performance of VULTURES 2.

This will actually be the first of the three listening experiences, as it will be going down on August 9. However, Dolla $ign’s followers aren’t really reacting to this news. Instead, they are harping on one aspect of the album that a majority of the community is having an issue with. The mixing, for lack of a better word, is pretty bad. Some aren’t too surprised with the final product, but others are confused, especially given how many times VULTURES 2 has been pushed back.

This argument is highlighted by the fact that there are quite a few songs that have floating around the internet for a couple of years now. Boldy James & Tee Grizzley Tag Team A Luxurious Trap Beat From Harry Fraud On “Cecil Fielder”

There is no stopping Boldy James. The Detroit, Michigan MC, one who embodies the hardcore subgenre, is back with yet another single. It comes just a few days after the YouTube exclusive release of “10 Pints”. It’s a reuniting of legends, as him and The Alchemist pick up right up where they left off a few years ago. Now, the East Coast figure is rekindling his relationship with New York producing vet Harry Fraud. Boldy James is also bringing his Detroit brethren Tee Grizzley along for the ride, as they drop “Cecil Fielder”.

Something that Harry and Boldy do not share is an album. The latter has plenty with other producers, so with “Cecil Fielder” being their song, the hope is that this a lead single. As per usual, Fraud lays down another incredible instrumental that equal parts grand and gritty. The elegant string and horn sections intertwined with the trap drums lead to one heck of an extravagant vibe. Additionally, Boldly and Tee display that thy have something to build on outside of their same-city connection. This is hands down one of the former’s best tracks of 2024.
