Gorillaz And Bad Bunny’s ‘Tormenta’ Is A Brewing Storm Of Emotion On ‘Cracker Island’

Cracker Island, the eighth studio from Gorillaz, is out now. Although leader Damon Albarn is open to the idea of eventually stepping down from the mantle for the right person, for the time being, the group is going to celebrate its latest release by dropping a new single, “Tormenta.”

The reggaeton and indie fusion track, whose title translates to “storm,” features one of Latin music’s biggest stars in Bad Bunny. On the outside, the credit for the crossover track belongs to Albarn’s daughter Missy and her friend Salima who introduced him to reggaeton. During an interview with The Sun’s Simon Cosyns, Albarn shared, “[Missy and Salima] grew up together and went to the Spanish school at the top of our road. So they’re attuned to Latin music and into reggaeton.”

The song chronicles the pre- and post-emotional dealings of deep romantic love. Bunny is a fierce rapper, but on “Tormenta,” his vocal abilities are the central focus as he sings, roughly translated roughly translates to, “And make the most of me today, because tomorrow I’m gone / And I don’t know when I’ll get back, if I get lost in your eyes / And make the most of mе today, because tomorrow I’m gone / And I don’t know whеn I’ll get back, if I get lost in your eyes.”

Albarn was overwhelmingly impressed by the music star’s talents, saying in the aforementioned interview, “Bad Bunny’s the real deal. He’s got one of those annoying voices, which is exactly right every time. So accurate and so consistent, it’s amazing,” before jokingly adding, “If I could sing like that, I would be the biggest artist in the world, but I can’t, so I’m not!’”

Take a listen for yourself. The full track is embedded above.

Cracker Island is out now via Parlophone. Get it here.

Gorillaz is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Donald Glover’s ‘Swarm’ Trailer Looks Like A Cautionary Tale About Beyhive-Style Fandom

Atlanta ended only last year, but Donald Glover is already back with a new show. Created by Janine Nabers and Glover, Swarm follows Dre (played by Dominique Fishback), a fan of the world’s biggest pop star — who definitely isn’t Beyoncé — and how her obsession takes a dark turn.

You can watch the stressful trailer above.

“We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy,” Glover told Vanity Fair about Swarm, referring to the 2001 Michaele Haneke and 1982 Martin Scorsese movies, respectfully. Nabors added that “we were really interested in creating an anti-hero story,” like the ones seen on Mad Men and Breaking Bad, but “through the lens of a Black, modern-day woman.”

Glover compared Fishback to Isabelle Huppert, “as far [as] risk-takers in performances.” While shooting the final scene in the pilot, “every single person stopped what they were doing and gave Dom a standing ovation for three minutes,” Nabors said. “I’ve been doing TV for a long time and I’ve never seen that. That was the moment that Donald and I looked at each other and we were like, all right — we got something right.”

Swarm premieres on Amazon Prime Video on March 17.

LL Cool J Uses Cardi B Lyric To Describe Spicy Wings On “Hot Ones”

As the future of his next album is rumored to hang in the balance, LL Cool J is testing the heat on Hot Ones. The beloved Rap icon is fresh off an epic Grammy Award performance with dozens of his peers as they celebrated 50 years of Hip Hop. After heating up the stage, he’s powering his way through different levels of hot wings on the First We Feast series, and it’s an episode that had audiences laughing.

It was also clear from the jump that spicy foods may not be LL’s cup of tea. He ate the first wing with a low-burning sauce and joked, “That’s hot enough.” While laughing, he made it through, but it didn’t take long for LL to regret agreeing to appear on the show. The Rap icon was asked questions about his career as he paced himself. LL spoke about this year’s Grammy performance and admitted it was his “most enjoyable.”

“I’ve had other moments hosting, just purely hosting, that were amazing as well,” LL further stated. “But as an artist, this was like, by far the most fun for me. Being on stage with Rakim and Public Enemy and Salt-N-Pepa and Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Rahim. I just want people to know that, you know, for years Hip Hop has been served in a brown paper bag. The greasy brown paper bag. I also want people to—I wanted it to be served on a silver platter and thankfully, it was. I was able to make a huge contribution.”

He praised the production and Questlove for helping to curate the performance. “I think it turned out to be something real special for Hip Hop,” LL added. Previously, Questlove also spoke about the development of the show. He revealed that it wasn’t an easy feat getting all of those artists together. Fans took to social media to fire off questions to The Roots icon about why certain rappers didn’t show face. Quest was ready for all complaints.

Questlove Set The Record Straight

Undoubtedly, we would have loved to see all of our favorites at the Grammys Hip Hop 50th tribute. However, Questlove revealed that many people declined, others were already booked, and some had excuses that the Rap legend didn’t share. There were reportedly talks of having something feature all femcees, but they decided against it. Production also opted to avoid highlighting artists who have passed on because there was always the chance that someone would be excluded and fans would be upset.

Ice-T also revealed that Lil Wayne and Future were supposed to perform at the Grammys, too. However, it is unclear exactly why the two hitmakers didn’t make the stage. Check out more from LL Cool J above as he quotes Cardi B’s “WAP” lyrics to describe the heat on Hot Ones.

Brittany Renner Explains Her New Perspective On Meaningless Sex, Says It Makes Her Want To Puke

In the early stages of her career, part of Brittany Renner’s brand was speaking candidly about her sex life. Over the years, she’s been linked to names like Colin Kaepernick, Ben Simmons, Jamal Murray, and James Harden. She also shares a child with PJ Washington, who she began dating when he was 18 and the social media star was 26.

The 30-year-old is no stranger to controversy, though as she gets older, she seems to be unlearning some of her toxic traits. In recent months, rather than bragging about her conquests, the mother of one has been sharing her fresh perspective on intimacy. While it used to be a thoughtless act for her, Renner now finds it challenging to share her body with a man if they haven’t formed a bond between them.

Brittany’s Fresh Perspective on Intimacy

During a recent interview, the influencer recalled what her life was like before. “I gave men my body who didn’t deserve it, and you know, it was what it was. The thought of that now literally makes me want to puke,” she confessed. “I’m okay off of meaningless sex,” Renner added. “I mean, sex without some type of bond, or love, is just exercise at this point.”

She then joked that, because she already has a healthy relationship with her fitness routine, there’s no need for her to get an extra workout in. The comment section on @theneighborhoodtalk proves that many are loving the new leaf Renner has turned over. “I love how transparent and how honest she is,” one person praised the Mississippi native. “Love this growth and glow on her.”

Last December, the entertainer publicly shaded her old roster of hookups in another interview. At the time, Renner called her list of past sexual partners “repulsive,” and admitted that her lack of self-worth is what lead her to be intimate with them. “I did not understand my value that I was born with,” she told YouTuber JustPearlyThings.

“People look at sex differently, but sex is spiritual unification. At the end of the day, I don’t care how you spin it,” the Jackson State alum additionally noted. “And people that I shared my body with — when I think about my list — it’s repulsive. Because they didn’t deserve it. But that was an outcome of me discounting my worth.” Watch Renner’s full interview with Nyla Symone below, and check back later for more pop culture news.

Summer Walker is showing off her fun lifestyle to her Instagram fans, as she posted a couple of clips of her dancing and twerking on a night out. While it’s unclear if the R&B singer is on vacation or just celebrating another hard day’s work, either way it seemed like a blast. Moreover, Walker’s always been proud of showing off her body, which she’s done even after her recent pregnancy. Still, in her Jamaica shorts and bright red hair, Summer lived in the moment and after hard work as a mom and artist, at least she’s enjoying her off time to the fullest.

Furthermore, these clips come a couple of weeks after she posted a message regarding her spiritual journey. Via Instagram, the Atlanta songstress spoke on how this past year really shaped her perspective and fostered important, meaningful progress. While she acknowledged purging out all the bad vibes and going through struggle, she seemed most of all appreciative. Travis Scott & Epic Records CEO Share Promising Update On “Utopia” Release Date

Among the several albums expected to drop this year, fans are anxious to hear Travis Scott’s Utopia. It’s been five years since Astroworld and Scott’s gone through the highs-and-lows of stardom within that period. He’s become one of the biggest brands in America with collaborations alongside McDonald’s, Jordan, and Fortnite to show for it. At the same time, his long-awaited “comeback” was impeded by the tragic events that transpired at Astroworld Festival in 2021.

Since the deadly crowd crush, Scott’s remained rather lowkey in the public eye. He hasn’t dropped much music since then, so it’s still unclear what we should expect from him o Utopia. Though he previously hinted at a project titled, Dystopia, the predecessor to Utopia, it appears that those plans may have been trashed and he’s gearing up to directly unleash his his fourth studio album.

Epic Records CEO Shares Update On Travis Scott’s “Utopia” Release Date

Travis Scott’s boss quietly revealed when we should expect the project last month. In a resurfaced excerpt from Sylvia Rhone’s cover story for Billboard’s Women In Music 2023’s Executive Of The Year, she outlined what to expect from the label, including a timeframe for Scott’s forthcoming effort. “We have a new Travis Scott record, expected to come in June,” Rhone’s said before giving a shout out to Future. “Last year, Future delivered the biggest album of his 10-year career at the company. How many hip-hop artists can do that and still be relevant?”

The resurfaced excerpt comes shortly after Travis Scott announced that his upcoming album would arrive after the rest of the Cactus Jack roster releases their respective projects. It seems that the campaign began this morning when Don Toliver released Love Sick. “We got Faygo about to put a little EP out. That’s on the way. And right after that, Utopia,” he said during a concert. So, it seems like Utopia will be coming out just in time for the summer, if all goes to plan. Just before that, he informed fans that Utopia was coming soon during a celebrity softball game. Check out Scott’s announcement above.
