Diddy’s Love Records Announces Jozzy’s New EP “‘Songs For Women, Free Game For N*ggas’

He created an unforgettable empire with Bad Boy, and Sean “Diddy” Combs is looking to recreate that success with Love Records. In May 2022, Diddy announced that he was officially launching his new R&B-centered record label. Later, he returned to share that his first signee was Jozzy. Now, after nearly a year of plotting and planning, Diddy says he is ready to release his first EP through the collective.

According to reports, Jozzy’s EP—For Women, Free Game For N*ggas—will arrive this Friday (February 24). “It’s finally here,” Jozzy wrote on Instagram. “This EP is the beginning of every dream reignited. Thank you for waiting & believing. ‘Songs For Women, Free Game For N*ggas’ Friday 2/24 🌹 @loverecords.”

Jozzy is a very special and dynamic talent that only comes around once in a generation, so I’m excited to see how her music sets a new standard for R&B,” Diddy said in a statement about the release. “Her skills as a writer and performer, matched with her style and energy, [have] the potential to make her one of the greats, and I’m proud to play a part in shaping the next chapter of her career.”

When Puff first announced Love Records’ arrival in partnership with Motown, he spoke about his vision. “Music has always been my first love, LOVE RECORDS is the next chapter is about getting back to the love and making the best music of my life,” Diddy said at the time. “For the label, I’m focused on creating timeless R&B music with the next generation of artists and producers. Motown is the perfect partner for my album, and I’m excited to add to its legacy.”

Diddy Lit Up the Internet When He Said “R&B is Dead”

Last year, a simple post stating that “R&B is dead” sparked a wave of controversy. Later, Diddy explained his hot take. To him, the influence that R&B once had on the industry has fallen, but he seemingly backtracked and didn’t mean to insult any creative. Diddy also shared that this time around, he’s looking to have equal partnerships with artists, not simply sign them to record deals. Are you looking forward to Jozzy’s EP?

Diddy Reveals The Impending Release Date For The First EP From His New R&B-Focused Love Records

Diddy may have built his empire on a variety of businesses including liquor companies, television shows, and apparel, but he’s finally returning to his music roots with the launch of his R&B-focused record label, Love Records. Today, Love Records revealed the release date for its first project, the debut EP from singer/songwriter Jozzy. Titled Songs For Women, Free Game For N****, the eight-track EP is due February 24.

In a statement, Diddy praised his new protege, saying, “Jozzy is a very special and dynamic talent that only comes around once in a generation, so I’m excited to see how her music sets a new standard for R&B. Her skills as a writer and performer, matched with her style and energy has the potential to make her one of the greats and I’m proud to play a part in shaping the next chapter of her career.”

Jozzy’s writing credits include hits from across the last several years such as DaniLeigh’s “Lil Bebe,” Internet Money’s “Lemonade,” and Metro Boomin & 21 Savage’s “Mr. Right Now.”

Diddy launched Love Records last year after claiming that “R&B is dead,” walking back that statement after a widespread backlash from fans. As he explained in a press release for the label, “I feel like R&B was abandoned and it’s a part of our African American culture.” He also said he wanted to try out a new business model, saying, “I’m not signing any artists. Because if you know better, you do better. I’m doing 50–50 partnerships with pure transparency.”

Diddy Calls On PartyNextDoor For Lustful “Sex In A Porsche”

After welcoming a new child into the world and subsequently finding himself in the middle of an online feud involving Yung Miami, Akademiks, Gina Huynh, and others, Diddy is still coming through with new heat.

Earlier this year, Diddy began plotting away on his next album — the first through his newly established Love Records. Though he’s responsible for some of the most influential figures in hip-hop, there’s no doubt that his ear for R&B is unmatched.

This week, Brother Love unloaded a brand new single from his upcoming album. The Bad Boy executive connected with PartyNextDoor for his new single, “Sex In A Porsche.” The Canadian singer-songwriter’s strain of hazy, lustful R&B takes center stage in one of his seldom releases of the year while Diddy comes through with some bars. The Revolt TV CEO comes through with another smash that will certainly stay on steady rotation well into the new year.

Prior releasing “Sex In A Porsche,” Diddy linked up with Bryson Tiller for the single, “Gotta Move On.” The record peaked at #1 on Billboard’s R&B Airplay charts while later releasing a “Queens Remix” featuring Ashanti and his “Shawty Wop,” Yung Miami. Additionally, he released a “King’s Remix” alongside Tory Lanez and Fabolous.

PartyNextDoor, on the other hand, has been rather lowkey throughout the year. He linked up with OG Parker for “No Fuss” in January yet he hasn’t offered any updates on new music. Hopefully, 2023 will see a new release from the OVO signee.

Check “Sex In A Porsche” below.

Quotable Lyrics
She think she dreamin’, I had to tell her to breathe
She love to arch it up and give it all to me
I gave her what niggas never gave her, that was honesty
Ayo, the game switched up, the shit lookin’ like try-outs

Diddy (Who Just Started An R&B Label) Walks Back His ‘R&B Is Dead’ Comments

Last week, Diddy hopped on an Instagram Live session with Timbaland, Jermaine Dupri, Summer Walker, and others. In the fairly unfiltered affair, Diddy made waves for saying that he’s “not f*ckin” with Triller” anymore because of the fallout between Swizz Beats and Timbaland following a lawsuit. But his proverbial shot-heard-round-the-world, was insinuating that R&B is “dead.”

“R&B is muthaf*ckin’ dead as of right now,” he said. “The R&B I made my babies to? R&B gotta be judged to a certain thing—it’s the feeling though, doggy. No, no, no. It’s a feeling. You gotta be able to sing for R&B and then you gotta tell the truth. R&B is not a hustle. This sh*t is about feeling your vulnerability.”

Considering he recently launched his R&B-focused label, Love Records, (in partnership with Motown Records, no less) these words coming from Diddy were curious to say the least. But the hip-hop mogul walked back his words a bit in trying to set the record straight in a series of tweets:

“It’s been 3 days of the debate…This is the clarity of the message…It’s not disrespect to anybody. This conversation was out of love and me purposely wanting to bring attention to R&B! It was something that I saw the effect of the Hip hop and R&B balance. That balance is honesty and realness when it comes together, melodies, vulnerability and most importantly LOVE!!! This message is that R&B game needs more love, vulnerability, support!!”

He certainly did bring attention to the R&B debate, but this felt like a cheap shot, considering the end result of this kerfuffle is that we’ll have to see just what Diddy’s idea of real R&B is when Love Records starts putting out new music. Your move Diddy.

Diddy Launches His R&B-Focused Label, Love Records, In Partnership With Motown

Last summer, Diddy announced that he is putting out an R&B album, as well as launching an R&B-focused music label. Today, he officially revealed the label’s name, Love Records. The label was started in partnership with Motown Records, and Diddy’s upcoming album will be its first release. According to a statement from the label in Variety, the focus will initially be to “release singles and collaborative projects from a collective of world-class artists, producers, and songwriters.”

Diddy previously cited his inspiration in launching the new label, saying, “I feel like R&B was abandoned and it’s a part of our African American culture.” Meanwhile, he also intends to try a new business model, rather than locking artists into deals for a cut of the profits. “I’m not signing any artists,” he said. “Because if you know better, you do better. I’m doing 50–50 partnerships with pure transparency.”

The music mogul has had plenty of experience in the arena of R&B. Before launching the label for which he’s best known, Bad Boy, he A&Red projects from the likes of Jodeci and Mary J. Blige at Uptown Records. That experience should serve him well as he and Love Records — which he’s sort of named after himself — prepare for the release of his first album in seven years, Off The Grid Vol. 1.
