Diddy Honors His Pledge And Donates $1 Million To Howard University

Today (Oct. 20), Sean “Diddy” Combs returned to his alma mater, Howard University, to fulfill a remarkable promise. Moreover, this extraordinary act of philanthropy took place during the university’s annual Yardfest event, where the Howard community and fans alike gathered to celebrate and witness this significant moment. The acclaimed music mogul handed over a generous check of $1 million to Dr. Ben Vinson III, the president of Howard University.

Diddy’s visit to Howard University wasn’t just about a financial contribution; it was a reaffirmation of his unwavering commitment to the preservation of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Subsequently, as a proud alumnus of Howard, he understands the transformative power of such institutions and the vital role they play in the lives of countless individuals. In addition to the substantial donation, Diddy also had more surprises up his sleeve. He took to the stage to perform some of his classic songs such as,”It’s All About the Benjamins,” “I Need a Girl (Pt. 1),” and “Act Bad.” Furthermore, he brought out special guests Kalan.FrFr and Jozzy to perform songs from his latest album The Love Album: Off the Grid.

However, Diddy gave a speech as well and expressed sentiment about the importance of HBCUs. He stated, “As someone who attended Howard University and values the transformative experience of historically Black colleges, it remains crucial that we strive to protect and uphold their legacy. This donation to Howard is not just a financial contribution. It’s also a reaffirmation of our commitment to a cultural institution that has touched countless lives. It’s about ensuring that HBCUs continue to receive the support they rightfully deserve.”

Dr. Vinson, the president of Howard University, acknowledged the profound impact of Diddy’s contribution, saying, “This is such a tremendously meaningful gift to Howard University. And we are deeply grateful. Since his days here as a student, Sean Combs has always credited Howard for helping him become the groundbreaking entertainer and entrepreneur that he has become. His gift will have a profound impact on our students, paving the way for future leaders.” Diddy’s generous pledge and his commitment to HBCUs serve as a shining example of how influential individuals can give back to their communities and make a lasting difference in the lives of aspiring students.

Jozzy Drops New EP “Songs for Women, Free Game for N****s”

It’s pretty much impossible to find an up-and-coming artist with more co-signs than Jozzy. Though her solo catalog is not expansive, the Memphis R&B artist has worked with and rubbed elbows with some of the best musicians ever. In May 2022, she signed a record deal with Diddy’s Love Records. Since then, she has earned songwriting credits on some of the biggest album releases in music. These include “Virgo’s Groove” from Beyoncé’s latest LP RENAISSANCE, John Legend’s “On Time” from Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains, and “Low” from SZA’s S.O.S.

Before signing her deal, however, Jozzy still collaborated with many R&B, pop, and rap stars for huge hits. She has songwriting credits on Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” remix with Billy Ray Cyrus. Additionally, she helped out with Internet Money’s smash hit “Lemonade” including Don Toliver and Gunna. Also included on her resume are songwriting credits for Summer Walker, 21 Savage, Diplo, Fergie, Coldplay, Lil Durk and many more. Her name already carried a lot of weight before she even got her feet under her as a solo artist. This is likely why Diddy refers to her as the “R&B Biggie.”

Jozzy’s First Release In Years

On Feb. 21, Diddy and Love Records announced the impending release of Jozzy’s new EP. Songs for Women, Free Game for N****s, unlike most EPs, would include 10 songs. Ahead of its release, Diddy released a statement speaking about the significance of this moment for Jozzy. “Jozzy is a very special and dynamic talent that only comes around once in a generation, so I’m excited to see how her music sets a new standard for R&B,” he said. “Her skills as a writer and performer, matched with her style and energy, [have] the potential to make her one of the greats, and I’m proud to play a part in shaping the next chapter of her career.”

Songs for Women, Free Game for N****s was finally released later in the week on Feb. 24. Spanning 30 minutes, the project is Jozzy’s first release since 2020. Her prior EP Soul Therapy: PT 215 was much more of a traditional, lasting for 5 songs and 15 minutes. Additionally, she dropped her first single on digitial streaming platforms with “Sucka Free” featuring Lil Wayne in 2019. But, none of these moments compare to the magnitude of Songs for Women, Free Game for N****s. With Diddy behind her and her bolstered resume vouching for her, Jozzy is surely here to stay. Diddy Lit Up the Internet When He Said “R&B is Dead”

Last year, a simple post stating that “R&B is dead” sparked a wave of controversy. Later, Diddy explained his hot take. To him, the influence that R&B once had on the industry has fallen, but he seemingly backtracked and didn’t mean to insult any creative. Diddy also shared that this time around, he’s looking to have equal partnerships with artists, not simply sign them to record deals. Are you looking forward to Jozzy’s EP?

Diddy Reveals The Impending Release Date For The First EP From His New R&B-Focused Love Records

Diddy may have built his empire on a variety of businesses including liquor companies, television shows, and apparel, but he’s finally returning to his music roots with the launch of his R&B-focused record label, Love Records. Today, Love Records revealed the release date for its first project, the debut EP from singer/songwriter Jozzy. Titled Songs For Women, Free Game For N****, the eight-track EP is due February 24.

In a statement, Diddy praised his new protege, saying, “Jozzy is a very special and dynamic talent that only comes around once in a generation, so I’m excited to see how her music sets a new standard for R&B. Her skills as a writer and performer, matched with her style and energy has the potential to make her one of the greats and I’m proud to play a part in shaping the next chapter of her career.”

Jozzy’s writing credits include hits from across the last several years such as DaniLeigh’s “Lil Bebe,” Internet Money’s “Lemonade,” and Metro Boomin & 21 Savage’s “Mr. Right Now.”

Diddy launched Love Records last year after claiming that “R&B is dead,” walking back that statement after a widespread backlash from fans. As he explained in a press release for the label, “I feel like R&B was abandoned and it’s a part of our African American culture.” He also said he wanted to try out a new business model, saying, “I’m not signing any artists. Because if you know better, you do better. I’m doing 50–50 partnerships with pure transparency.”
