Rappers Who Tried To Create Beef But It Didn’t Pan Out As Expected

In Hip Hop, authenticity reigns supreme, with artists often lauded for their raw honesty and unapologetic storytelling. However, amid the sea of genuine emotions and lived experiences, a curious trend emerged: the proliferation of fake feuds. Fake rap beef between artists has been pretty common in the Hip Hop scene for a while. Sometimes, they’re not very easy to pick up on, but other times, it’s quite obvious.

From calculated social media jabs to meticulously orchestrated confrontations, it certainly is an interesting trend. Usually, there’s a web of motivations behind the feud, and that’s why, over time, many Hip Hop acts have created fake rap beef. It may be to boost album sales, elevate one’s status within the industry, or simply to garner attention in an oversaturated market. Here’s a list of five rappers who have created fake beef before.

Gillie Da Kid & Lil Wayne

Following a series of legal troubles, Gillie Da Kid dropped out of the Cash Money Records roster in 2006. However, his exit was not a very friendly one, as he and Lil Wayne started taking subtle shots at each other soon after. Subsequently, Gillie turned the heat up, claiming he was highly responsible for Wayne’s success. The rapper asserted that he’d been a ghostwriter for Wayne on Tha Carter (2004). Additionally, speaking with XXL in July 2006, Gillie claimed,  “As far as me tutoring this young cat, he really just sat down and soaked up game.” However, this beef never really took off and eventually died out.

The Game

Early on in his career, The Game tried to start a fake rap beef with Jay-Z. It seems the rapper was trying to get a ride out of Jay-Z as he kept firing not-so-subtle shots at Jay in songs like “West Side Story” and “My Bit*h.” However, Hov never replied, so the feud never took root. Later, in interviews with VIBE and Vlad TV, Game admitted to just being reckless and competitive. “He was the top dog, and I tend to do that,” he told Vlad TV about trying to provoke Jay.

Canibus

J. Cole is a big fan of Canibus and has said so on several occasions. On one such occurrence, he even cited Canibus as one of his influences growing up. Surprisingly, Canibus did not take the compliment very well. Soon after, he released “J. Clone,” a diss track. It was a very weird reaction from the rapper, and many wondered why he was trying to start a rap beef. After all, who responds to praise with a diss track? It just didn’t add up. Following backlash from fans, Canibus offered a public apology to J. Cole.

Consequence

A rap beef between Consequence and Kanye West is not something many people expected. In the mid-2000s, they were inseparable, but that drastically changed in 2011. After Consequence got dropped by GOOD Music, the rapper seemed to suddenly have a lot to get off his chest concerning Ye. However, amidst diss tracks like “Everybody Told Me” and interviews where Cons fired shots at him, Kanye did not respond. Subsequently, in 2015, Consequence shared with Vlad TV that he had ended his beef with Ye.

50 Cent & Kanye West

Leading up to the release of their albums in 2007, 50 Cent and Kanye West started a lighthearted fake rap beef. It involved playful banter and marketing stunts from the two to drum up excitement for their albums. For example, 50 Cent claimed he would quit rap if his Curtis didn’t outsell Kanye’s acclaimed album, Graduation. In the end, Kanye did outsell 50 Cent, and that was the end of their interesting rap beef.

Druski says he had fun during the times he’s attended parties hosted by Diddy. Appearing on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the popular comedian explained, however, that he wasn’t at “them parties.” The comments come in the wake of the latest lawsuit filed against Diddy alleging sexual misconduct.

“Yeah, I’ve been in attendance,” Druski admitted as the hosts began to laugh. “That’s all. All I said. That’s all I said. I said ‘I’ve been in attendance.’ ‘I have been in attendance.’” From there, he recalled having fun and explained: “Yeah, I had fun. I mean, it was a party, I wasn’t– I wasn’t at one of them parties, I have been in attendance at a Puff party. You know what I’m saying? I been in attendance. Yeah. Yeah. I went, yeah, okay. But I ain’t, yeah, nah, whatever. I don’t know which parties. The party I went to, it was girls turn up, you know what I’m saying? The regular, you know what I mean? Other celebrities and sh*t.”

The most recent lawsuit plaguing Diddy accuses him of sexually assaulting Rodney Jones. In a statement for TMZ, Diddy’s attorney, Shawn Holley, denied the allegations: “Lil Rod is nothing more than a liar who filed a $30 million lawsuit shamelessly looking for an undeserved payday. His reckless name-dropping about events that are pure fiction and simply did not happen is nothing more than a transparent attempt to garner headlines. We have overwhelming, indisputable proof that his claims are complete lies. Our attempts to share this proof with Mr. Jones’ attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, have been ignored, as Mr. Blackburn refuses to return our calls. We will address these outlandish allegations in court and take all appropriate action against those who make them.”

Drake Missouri Concert Crash: Alleged Killer Bails Out

Drake is an artist who tries to keep the audiences at his show feeling as positive as possible. On recent tours, he’s been kind enough to give out luxurious designer bags, cash prizes, and even vehicles to random patrons, or people who come to his shows to celebrate after battling cancer. Despite his best efforts, there’s a lot that remaisn outside of the Canadian’s control, including reckless drivers outside the venue. Following his performance in Missouri earlier this month, a mother-daughter duo lost their lives after 22-year-old Monte Henderson sped through a red light.

According to WPDE, the young man was released from jail last Friday (February 23). At the time, he posted $20K, or 10% of his $200K bail, court records obtained by the outlet reveal. Henderson was arrested on two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter charges and two counts of armed criminal action. His victims were 42-year-old Laticha “Lety” Bracero and her daughter, 21-year-old Alyssa Cordova. The women were visiting from Chicago to see Drake in downtown St. Louis on Valentine’s Day when they lost their lives while crossing the street.

22-Year-Old Monte Henderson Posts $20K After Double Murder Following Drake Show

“Data retrieved from the Jeep Grand Cherokee indicated that the vehicle was traveling at speeds in excess of 70 mph prior to violating the red traffic signal,” court records notes. “Based on the foregoing and the serious nature of the charges, I believe that the defendant is not likely to appear voluntarily on a summons and is a danger to the community,” one officer wrote.

As the loved ones left behind by Bracero and Cordova continue to grieve their unexpected loss, Drake is likely feeling more grateful than ever for his mother, Sandra Graham’s presence in his life. Ending the most romantic month of the year on a mushy note, he shared a “forever core memory” of the blonde beauty with us on Instagram today. Check that out at the link below, and tap back in with HNHH later for more music/pop culture news updates.

Jets Grant Zach Wilson Permission To Seek Trade

The Zach Wilson era appears to be over in New York. The Jets have granted the embattled QB permission to seek a trade. It’s a move that has been expected since the team owner said that the team “didn’t have a backup quarterback” last season. The team will work closely with Wilson’s agent to try and move the former second-overall pick. It is widely expected that Wilson, who has never settled in the NFL, will garner a late-round pick at most.

However, the Jets are eager to find a quality backup for Aaron Rodgers. “We’re still really early in the offseason, especially when it comes to the veteran backup landscape and market. We’ve had good meetings and good evaluations with the guys that are available, and I think we’re ready to take the next step and see where the market is exactly with these backup quarterbacks,” GM Joe Douglas said this week.

Aaron Rodgers Blasts Jets For “Chicken Sh*t” Locker Room Leaks

All this comes at the end of a tense year for the Jets. In December, Aaron Rodgers publicly criticized the New York Jets for a number of locker room leaks that appeared to villainize benched quarterback Zach Wilson. “That’s a problem with the organization. We need to get to the bottom of whatever this is coming from and put a stop to it privately, because there’s no place in a winning culture where — and this isn’t the only time. There’s been a bunch of other leaks,” Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show.

The leaks in question stemmed from an article published by The Athletic. Anonymous locker room sources had told the outlet that Wilson appeared “reluctant” to resume QB1 duties with the Jets all but eliminated from playoff contention. These sources speculated that, much like a college player sitting out a bowl game, Wilson is wary of getting injured before he likely joins a new team next season. Rodgers questioned why someone within the Jets organization would want to “assassinate someone’s character like that report does for Zach”. Furthermore, Rodgers called the rumors “chicken sh-t at its core”.

As it usually happens, Snoop Dogg recently went viral again when yet another lookalike of his fooled an unknowing fan. In the viral video, an excited flight attendant gleefully poses for a photo with a man she thinks is Snoop Dogg. However, despite the striking resemblance, the unnamed man is not the “Gin and Juice” rapper. Regardless, the man obliges, posing for the photos with a smile on his face. Teezo Touchdown Cover Talking Heads’ “Making Flippy Floppy” For A24

Teezo Touchdown has quickly become one of the most sought after multi-hyphenates in the music industry. We primarly cover him when it pertains to hip-hop crossovers. However, this instance is for something totally different. After nabbing a big time placement on Lyrical Lemonade and Cole Bennett’s debut tape All is Yellow, the Texan is now assisting an indie film company with a soundtrack. That brand is A24, who in the latter half of last year got the chance to re-release the Talking Heads’ independent 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense. Teezo Touchdown is one of the artists that is going to be featured on the soundtrack as he covers Talking Heads’ “Making Flippy Floppy.”

According to Uproxx, alt rock band Paramore were the first to cover a track from the 1983 record Speaking In Tongues. They remade “Burning Down the House,” and now Teezo is the second artist to make the cut. The 40th anniversary remaster of the film hit theaters on September 22. However, the accompanying project of covers is still awaiting a release date.

However, we do have the name of the project, which is Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Stop Making Sense Tribute Album. The Talking Heads and Teezo Touchdown are honestly a mirroring image of each other. Both are extremely unconventional artists which makes things conventional in that sense. Teezo’s wild and entertaining voice steal the show and it would making Talking Heads proud.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Making Flippy Floppy,” by Teezo Touchdown? Is he the best genre-bending hip-hop adjacent artist out right now, why or why not? What was your favorite element of the song and why? Should he do more Talking Heads covers? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section.
