Chiefs’ Rashee Rice Faces Criminal Charges: What We Know

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Rashee Rice was one of the most popular NFL rookies in 2023. The 23-year-old wide receiver ended his rookie season on the highest of notes, winning Super Bowl LVIII. Since then, Rashee Rice’s popularity has skyrocketed, and understandably so. However, following a recent multi-vehicle crash he was involved in, Rashee Rice has made headlines. The Super Bowl champion is now in an unfortunate position and faces criminal charges. In the aftermath of the accident, Rice seems to be in some serious trouble. Here’s what we know about the incident, and the charges the wide receiver currently faces.

The Crash & Its Aftermath

On March 30, 2024, a reported multi-car crash involving six vehicles happened on North Central Expressway in Dallas right before 6:30pm. The crash was caught on the dashcam of a car whose driver witnessed the incident. It involved a Lamborghini Urus, a Chevrolet Corvette, and four other cars, all whose occupants were unknown at the time. The video shows as the Urus and Corvette zoom past and seemingly go out of control. That caused a chain reaction collision that affected four other vehicles.

After the cars came to a halt, the video shows five men exiting the Urus and Corvette, and leaving the scene of the crash. They left on foot, and did not check to see if the other victims of the crash were in need of help or medical attention. The men were unidentified at the time, but soon after, news of their identities was reported. Subsequent reports revealed that Rashee Rice was the one behind the wheels of the Lamborghini Urus, while Theodore Knox, 21, drove the Corvette. After the incident, two of the drivers in the cars that were hit were treated for minor injuries at the scene. Two other victims were transported to the hospital to be monitored and assisted.

On April 3, 2024, Rice met with the Dallas Police Department and acknowledged his involvement in the crash. Afterwards, he wrote on his Instagram story, “Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday’s accident. I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident.”

Is Rashee Rice Being Charged?

Before the crash, Rashee Rice had not had any major legal issues associated with his name. However, the situation seems to be quite serious, and may cost the 23-year-old. The NFL player’s attorney has shared that he’s kept his word so far, cooperating with authorities. However, Rice will not escape the ordeal unscathed, unfortunately. He is now facing several felony charges for his part in the crash. The police issued him warrants for one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury. Theodore Knox also faces similar charges for his involvement in the incident. On April 11, 2024, Rice turned himself in at the Glenn Heights Police Department. Subsequently, he was booked into the Regional Jail in DeSoto. However, on Thursday night, April 12, 2024, he was released on a $40,000 bond.

Besides the eight aforementioned charges, Rashee Rice has now also been hit with a lawsuit for his part in the crash. Edvard Petrovskiy and Irina Gromova, two people who say they are victims from the incident, filed a lawsuit on April 11. The pair claim to have suffered multiple injuries from the crash, including lacerations and contusions, brain trauma, disfigurement, and internal bleeding. They are seeking a minimum of $1 million in actual damages, and $10 million in punitive damages.

OJ Simpson: A Controversial Life & Legacy

OJ Simpson passed away on April 10 at the age of 76. The former football star, who was acquitted during the so-called “trial of the century” in 1995, had been suffering a lengthy battle with prostate cancer, which included multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Months before his passing, Simpson uploaded a video to social media responding to rumors that he was in hospice care as he struggled with cancer. In the video, OJ Simpson laughed and assured his followers that he was not in hospice care and that his health was of no concern.

Undoubtedly, OJ Simpson’s life and legacy are highly controversial, largely overshadowed by his 1995 trial, where he faced accusations of committing a violent and gruesome double homicide. Despite Simpson’s acquittal, the general public has persisted in viewing him as a murderer for the past 30 years, and subsequent civil trials have reinforced his connection to the deaths. As a result, there have been a wide array of responses to the announcement of the football champion’s passing. Let’s take a look back at OJ Simpson’s life and career.

OJ’s Early Life & Budding Football Career

OJ Simpson was born and raised in San Francisco, California in 1947. OJ and his family lived in low-income housing projects throughout his childhood, exposing him to poverty and gang violence from a young age. As a teenager, OJ ran with a street gang known as the Persian Warriors until he was persuaded by youth councilors and baseball star Willie Mays to pursue sports as a means of securing a more lucrative future.

Simpson played football throughout high school, though his poor academic performance prevented him from receiving a full scholarship to college. Still determined to make it out of the slums, Simpson enrolled at San Francisco’s City Community College, where he continued to hone his skills as a running back and defensive back. His college performance on the field was so strong that several schools reached out to recruit OJ, leading him to transfer to USC. By his senior year in 1968, OJ Simpson earned some impressive accolades, including a Maxwell Award, a Walter Camp Award, and even a Heisman Trophy.

NFL & Media Career

OJ Simpson spent 11 seasons playing in the NFL, the majority of which were with the Buffalo Bills. His field records provided national attention and saw him inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. By the time OJ retired in 1979, he was the only player in NFL history to rush over 2,000 yards in a 14-game season and remains the only player to rush for over 200 yards in six games. While his NFL career was ongoing, Simpson began acting in Hollywood productions, making him one of the most recognizable and revered figures in pop culture and entertainment. OJ Simpson starred in dozens of film and television placements, including The Towering Inferno, Roots, 1st & Ten, Frogmen, and many installments in The Naked Gun film franchise.

1995 Trial

If you’re under the age of 40, you likely know OJ Simpson best for his role in the landmark murder trial that stunned the nation. In June of 1994, OJ Simpson faced accusations of violently murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest by the Los Angeles police, Simpson attempted to flee in a white Ford Bronco driven by his long-time friend and former teammate, Al Cowlings. Simpson positioned himself in the back of the car with a gun to his head, threatening suicide if the police attempted to apprehend him. This moment was extensively televised, even interrupting coverage of the 1994 NBA Finals broadcast.

From there, the media circus surrounding the trial only grew, with some calling the event “the trial of the century.” Prosecutors presented DNA evidence indicating OJ Simpson’s presence on the night of the murder, along with a long-documented history of abuse that Nicole Brown had endured during their marriage. The defense, spearheaded by a team of lawyers including Johnnie Cochran, contended that corrupt and racist police officers had compromised the crime scene. Officer Mark Fuhrman, in particular, faced accusations of using racial slurs, as recorded on tape. He was later charged with perjury for falsely denying the use of these slurs while under oath.

Because of this, the trial quickly caused a racial divide within the United States, with media outlets reporting that Black people were significantly more likely to believe Simpson’s innocence due to the robust history of corruption surrounding the LAPD. The situation was further intensified by the Rodney King race riots in Los Angeles, which had rocked the community just a few years earlier.

In a shocking verdict, the jury found OJ Simpson not guilty of the murders. Over 100 million nationwide tuned in to watch the verdict announced via television and radio. No additional arrests have occurred in connection with the murders, and despite Simpson’s claims of innocence over the past three decades, most Americans still believe he is guilty. A few years after the initial trial, the victims’ families brought a civil suit against Simpson, finding him liable for the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman. Consequently, the court ordered him to pay out millions to the Goldman and Brown families.

As a result of the verdict, OJ Simpson was subject to scrutiny from the media and authorities, such as the FBI, for the rest of his life. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Simpson faced a slew of investigations, including allegations of money laundering, ecstasy possession, and road rage violations. In 2007, authorities convicted him on charges of kidnapping and armed robbery, sentencing him initially to 33 years in prison. He benefited from an early release program and returned home in 2017.

OJ Simpson’s Memory

Following the announcement of OJ Simpson’s death, the public reacted with mixed feelings. Neither the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, nor USC issued any public condolences for OJ’s passing. Public figures such as Caitlyn Jenner and Stephen A. Smith have weighed in, with the latter stating OJ was “One of the greatest athletes we have ever seen… But it all pales in comparison to him being perceived as a double murderer.”

SOURCE SPORTS: NFL Owners Approve New Format for Kickoff

NFL Owners Approve New Format for Kickoff

The NFL owners have voted to approve a new kickoff rule. The format originated in the XFL.

According to ESPN, in the 2024 season, kickers will maintain their position at the 35-yard line for kickoffs. However, the remaining ten players on the kickoff team will line up at the receiving team’s 40-yard line. On the return team, at least nine players will position themselves within a designated “setup zone” spanning from the 35- to the 30-yard lines. Up to two returners may also stand within a “landing zone” between the goal line and the 20-yard line.

An example of the kickoff is below.

Eli Manning Has Simple Response To Deion Sanders

Eli Manning had a hall of fame career in his time with the New York Giants. However, playing in New York wasn’t always a for sure thing. Well, it was for Manning and his team. The former Ole Miss star had his sights on playing in the Big Apple, even though the San Diego Chargers held the number one overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. But in the end Manning stood his ground and ended up playing his entire career in New York. A move that Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders has even mentioned to his team.

When discussing the future of his top players, Sanders mentioned that if things don’t go the way he would like, maybe his players would pull an Eli. If the situation doesn’t feel like a fit, Sanders seems sure that Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders and DB Travis Hunter could create their own future just like Manning did twenty years ago. To hear Sanders’ comments, check out the video posted below.

Eli Manning Agrees With Deion Sanders Latest Take

However, pulling this off is easier said than done. At one point, during all the talk of the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, many believed that Caleb Williams, who is the favorite to be the number one overall pick, might pull the same thing about not being a part of the Chicago Bears organization. However, those rumors have all but been squashed since the Bears traded starting quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It would take a confident player with a great support system to pull off a move like Manning. However, the potential of two players doing it in the same draft class seems nearly impossible. But, in a world where this actually works out for both guys, would that help Sanders in his recruiting efforts? Telling potential recruits that he can help them land in a perfect situation in the NFL would be a great selling point for any head coach. NFL Fans Heated After League Bans Hip-Drop Tackle

The NFL is the most successful sport in America. Year after year, the league is the sport that is watched the most, and the results are not even close. However, over the last few years the league has made it their mission to subtract any type of physical act from a game that has to be played physically. Today was just another step in the wrong direction as football will be changed forever with the banning of the hip-drop tackle.

Yes, in a slow-motion replay, the hip-drop tackle doesn’t look pretty. But, any fan will tell you that. However, banning it seems almost impossible. When the goal of a defensive player is to take down an offensive player, but can’t take them down too close to their head or too close to their ankles, it leaves very little chance for anywhere else. Nevertheless, the league is banning the tackle and fans are less than thrilled. Here are some of the best reactions from fans upon hearing the news.

Fans & Former NFL Players Begin Sounding Off

Many are of the belief that the hip-drop tackle term is a relatively new word the NFL has created. Even Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Dungy doesn’t have a clue what the term hip-drop tackle even means. Yes, the league is looking out for player safety. However, they’re also not listening to the players or the coaches in the process of making the game safer. Which doesn’t add up to someone from the outside looking in.

No matter anyone’s opinion on the matter, next season will see NFL officials make calls they’ve never been trained to do. Without question, games will be decided on hip-drop tackle penalties. When in reality most see them as just a regular tackle. Do you believe the NFL got it right with this new rule? Sound off in the comments with what you think the league should do. Aaron Donald Retires: His 5 Greatest Career Moments

The football world has been left reeling, as one of the most dominant defensive players of this generation, Aaron Donald, retires. The former player expressed that his career has come to an end in an announcement on X (formerly Twitter). “Cheers to what’s next- extending a big thank you to the Rams and all of the fans for your support over these last ten years- much love.” As fans reflect on the illustrious 10-year career before he retires, it’s impossible not to reminisce about some of the defining moments that solidified Aaron Donald’s legacy as a gridiron great. Here’s a look at five of those moments.

The Draft Day Triumph

Aaron Donald’s journey to NFL stardom began with a bang on draft day in 2014. Following an exceptional college career, where he clinched both the Lombardi Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Donald’s NFL Combine showing caught the attention of scouts and fans alike. His remarkable performance also shattered expectations. Moreover, he set a new record for the fastest 40-yard dash by a defensive tackle, clocking in at an impressive 4.68 seconds.

This achievement surpassed Tank Johnson’s decade-long record, igniting fervent pre-draft speculation and excitement. Despite being projected as a top talent, however, many teams passed on the dynamic defensive tackle. Nonetheless, the St. Louis Rams (now the Los Angeles Rams) saw his potential and selected him with the 13th overall pick. This marked the beginning of Aaron Donald’s professional career. But more than that, it also served as a testament to his resilience and determination to prove his worth in the league.

Super Bowl LVI Victory

Aaron Donald’s relentless pursuit of excellence reached its pinnacle on the grandest stage of them all: Super Bowl LVI. In a highly anticipated showdown, and three years after their Super Bowl loss to the Patriots, the Rams faced off against the Cincinnati Bengals. Importantly, Donald played a pivotal role in helping the Los Angeles Rams secure a spot in the championship game. Securing two sacks on Joe Burrow and tallying three quarterback hits, he pressured Burrow into an incomplete pass on fourth-and-one in the final minute. As a result, this effectively sealed the Vince Lombardi trophy for the Rams. In a moment of jubilation, Aaron Donald celebrated by pointing triumphantly to his ring finger. This now-iconic image is now forever etched in Super Bowl history and undoubtedly marks a pinnacle in his career before Aaron Donald retires.

Three-Time NFL Defensive Player Of The Year

In Aaron Donald’s first three seasons, his supremacy was consistently acknowledged with three Pro Bowl selections and two First-Team All-Pro Honors. However, everything changed for the player in the 2017 season when he clinched his first NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Perhaps the most significant testament to Aaron Donald’s greatness is his unprecedented achievement of winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award two more times after that in 2018, and 2020. This remarkable feat cemented his status as one of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history. With his unmatched athleticism, relentless work ethic, and unrivaled passion for the game, Aaron Donald redefined the standards of defensive excellence.

Dominance In The Trenches

Throughout his career, Aaron Donald was known as a force to be reckoned with in the trenches. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses with his lightning-fast first step and technique was unparalleled. One of his most memorable displays of dominance came in a 2018 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, where he recorded four sacks and six quarterback hits in a single game. This performance evidently solidified his reputation as a nightmare for quarterbacks and offensive linemen. Fast forward two years later, Donald showcased his brilliance once again. He famously tallied four sacks against Washington, marking another standout performance in his career.

A Definitive Record Breaker

Aaron Donald deserves recognition as one of the most dominant interior lineman in NFL history. He showcased his unparalleled disruption capabilities during his standout season as a pass-rusher in 2018. It was in this remarkable campaign that Donald shattered the single-season sacks record for a defensive tackle. He reached an astonishing 18.5 sacks by Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals. Finishing the season with a league-leading 20.5 sacks, Donald earned his second Defensive Player of the Year award. Also, with a career total of 111 sacks, Donald stands alongside just one other defensive tackle in NFL history to achieve triple-digit sacks, solidifying his place in the pantheon of defensive legends.

As Aaron Donald bids farewell to the gridiron, his five greatest career moments serve as a reminder of his extraordinary talent, dedication, and impact on the game of football. While his retirement leaves a void in the NFL landscape, his legacy as one of the all-time greats will continue to inspire future generations of players and fans alike.

Bijan Robinson Brags About Still-Perfect March Madness, One Of Just 2100 Remaining

Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is one of the few people to still have a perfect men’s March Madness bracket. Only around 2100 perfect brackets remain across the four main bracket challenges – NCAA, ESPN, CBS, and Yahoo. A string of day-one upsets absolutely decimated the runs of many hopefuls. Three 11-seeds in Duquesne, Oregon, and NC State all progressed. However, the major bracket killer was No. 3 Kentucky being stunned by No. 14 Oakland.

Robinson shared his elation on Instagram. “Perfect Bracket day one and they said it was crazy. Yessirski lol,” Robinson wrote over an image of himself with a massive grin. Robinson is backing his alma mater, Texas, to go all the way. Per ESPN, Texas has a 0.1% chance to win the national championship. The seven-seeded Longhorns are only given a 22.1% chance to reach the Sweet 16. To do that, they will have to beat two-seed Tennessee in the second round.

Elizabeth Kitley To Miss March Madness, Virginia Tech’s Hopes Of Final Four Repeat Fade

Elsewhere, Elizabeth Kitley, the star of Virginia Tech‘s women’s basketball team, will miss March Madness due to a torn ACL. “On March 3rd I suffered a knee injury that is keeping me out of this year’s NCAA tournament. This is not at all how I anticipated ending this year with my team, but I’m so proud of all of our accomplishments, and I’m excited to see my girls continue to compete. Thank you to all of Hokie Nation for being so supportive during this tough time. I’m looking forward to making a strong comeback,” Kitley wrote on Instagram. She is expected to declare for the WNBA Draft after a standout career in Blacksburg.

However, the news is a devastating blow for the four-seed Hokies. Kitley forwent the WNBA Draft last season to play one more year in college. Becoming the all-time ACC leader in rebounds, Kitley catapulted the Hokies to a historic regular-season title. However, she missed the conference tournament due to the aforementioned ACL tear. With Kitley gone, it is unlikely that Virginia Tech will make back-to-back appearances in the Final Four. The Hokies reached that historic benchmark for the first time last year. Virginia Tech’s tournament begins against Marshall. However, the road back to the Final Four is guarded by a matchup against USC as well as the potential threats of UConn and Ohio State.
