Returning to Grant Park on August 1-4, this year’s festival has a massive lineup headlined by SZA, Tyler The Creator, Blink-182, The Killers, Future & Metro Boomin, Hozier, Stray Kids, Melanie Martinez, and Skrillex. Lollapalooza 2023 was headlined by Billie Eilish, Karol G, Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, Odesza, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The 1975, and Tomorrow X Together. How Much Are Tickets For Broccoli City Festival 2024?

Washington, DC’s Broccoli City Festival announced its 2024 lineup earlier this week and instantly became the hottest ticket in the festival space this year.

Part of that is due to the lineup, which includes Megan Thee Stallion, Gunna, Lil Yachty, and a huge, carefully curated selection of the buzziest stars in music. It helps that names like Issa Rae, Bryson Tiller, and Uncle Waffles all appear on the flyer, presenting an intriguing array of “experiences” like Soulection and Trap Karaoke, which have built reputations for bing quality events.

When Broccoli City moves to its new location at Audi Field this July 27-28, DMV Area locals won’t want to miss it. Here’s how much tickets will be.

There’s only a slight difference between Reserved Seated passes and Broccoli Field passes — the latter is an extra $10 — but it can make a world of difference. For those who prefer a more traditional concert experience, the Reserved Seated passes start at $225 and grant access to the main festival grounds inside and outside of the stadium. The VIP version is $440 and adds a lounge, dedicated restrooms, fast entry, and a private merch store.

If you don’t mind standing up, the field pass will give you that experience, and you’ll be much closer to the stages. Those passes start at $235. If you’re a “best of both worlds” concertgoer and want the option to either sit or join the crowd on the field, $845 will get you the All Access VIP pass so you can enjoy the perks of both. Tickets go on sale on Friday, March 21 at 10 am EDT.

For more information, visit Broccoli City’s official website.

Lil Tjay & Alex Pereira Spar, Rapper Knocks Down UFC Champion: Watch

We’re able to witness unexpected celebrity link-ups all the time thanks to social media. The latest to go viral online is between rapper Lil Tjay and UFC Champion Alex Pereira, who found himself being put in his place by the young East Coast rhymer during a recent sparring session. On Monday (March 18), a video of Tjay and the athlete surfaced on @akademiks’ page, showing the former full of energy and enthusiasm while taking shots at Pereria.

Just a few seconds into the clip, the Brazilian fighter falls to the floor, marking Tjay the winner after seemingly knocking out his competitor. Though the moment was impressive, not everyone is buying the video’s validiity. “If you believe this s**t delete the app,” one skeptic wrote. On the other hand, others commended the 22-year-old for his strategic movements. “When you hit the chin right, you going to sleep,” they remarked. “Lil Tjay know what he doing 💪🏽💪🏽.”

Even if the whole thing was staged, hip-hop heads are still eager to see if Tjay will celebrate by walking Pereria out for his upcoming UFC 300 fight. “An event fitting for a mega walkout,” one person declared, as Sportskeeda reports. “Alex out here doing side quests with rappers,” and “We need to see more of hip-hop crossing over into MMA,” other chimed in.

Besides the obvious work he’s been putting in on getting his strength up, Lil Tjay also has big aspirations for his musical career. The New Yorker shared last month that he was hoping to make an appearance on Kanye West’s Vultures 2 LP, and while that might not have come together as hoped, we might see him on the series’ third installment, whenever that arrives. Read all about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Bryson Tiller fans rejoice, we have a new album on the way! Yes, after nearly four years without one, the Kentucky R&B savant is dropping a self-titled LP on April 5. The veteran posted this announcement on his Instagram moments ago and it is safe to say people are amped. Big Sean, Che Ecru, KYLE, and others showed their excitement for the project in the comments section for the trailer too.

At this moment in time, we have gotten tons of material from Dr. Tiller on Soundcloud courtesy of “Tiller Tuesdays.” However, only one track, “Whatever She Wants,” is the only single for the album. It was originally released on the aforementioned platform but got a slight rework for Spotify and other streaming services. With all of this hype around his return, Bryson Tiller has recently done the right thing by bringing out another single “Calypso,”

Listen To “Calypso” By Bryson Tiller

This might be one of his best songs in recent memory, as the beat from Michael “Black Mic” Williams, che, Bass Charity, and LEO N, is outstanding. The song will get you on your feet and dancing immediately. There are so many layers such as jungle-esque drums, a gorgeous string section, and hard-hitting synths. It sounds busy but everything just melds together seamlessly. Of course, Bryson is bringing his smooth and sensual voice to the table while he tries to win back a love interest. Two singles in and Bryson Tiller is making a run for T R A P S O U L as his best body of work.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Calypso,” by Bryson Tiller? Is this going to be his best tape to date, why or why not? YG’s “My Krazy Life” Turns 10: A Modern West Coast Classic

For most artists, their debut album is one of the most important projects they will ever release. It sets the stage for the rest of their career and determines how their subsequent projects will be received. In 2014, YG successfully introduced his music to the world with My Krazy Life, his debut album. While he had released a handful of mixtapes between 2009 and 2013, it was My Krazy Life that firmly put the rapper’s name on the map. Since the album dropped, YG has released several excellent projects. However, even 10 years after its release, fans still always come back to My Krazy Life. Without a doubt, it is one of the most important works in YG’s entire catalog.

The Buildup To My Krazy Life

Before making it big and properly entering the mainstream market, YG built a loyal fan base on MySpace. The rapper’s music began getting heavy play on the platform while he was in jail on resident burglary charges. When he was finally released in 2009, he was immediately sought out by labels who wanted to sign him. Subsequently, he signed to Def Jam where he soon started releasing his mixtapes. In 2012, the rapper first announced his debut album, titled I’m 4rm Bompton at the time. However, in 2013, YG subsequently changed the title to My Krazy Life. After completing the album, YG released My Krazy Life on March 18, 2014.

The Subject Matter Of The Album

YG has spoken extensively about what My Krazy Life means to him. By all means, the album is a very personal piece of work to the rapper, and sees him being open and vulnerable in a peculiar way. While speaking to HipHopDX about the album in 2013, YG shared, “My album is catered to my life, my culture and the West Coast. It’s like a day in the life of YG from the morning until the night.”

In another 2013 interview with Vice, he further elaborated on the subject matter of the album. “It’s a lot of crazy shit. My album is catered to my life, you feel me? Shit that was really going on in my lifestyle, coming from where I come from, the West Coast, the culture out there. Gang banging, drugs, parties, and, just like every other culture, the same shit. It’s a lot of gang-banging going on, it’s shooting going on, it’s robbing going on. It’s fucking bitches. All that shit,” he said. As promised, My Krazy Life is littered with songs that see YG spitting bars about different aspects of his life. Admittedly, the harsh realities addressed in the project would turn some listeners away. However, many others continue to appreciate the grittiness and raw honesty YG showcased on My Krazy Life.

Contributors And Tracklist Of The Album

Many heads and hands came together to assist YG in creating this body of work. DJ Mustard handled the majority of the production with further contributions made by Metro Boomin, Ty Dolla Sign, Mike Free, B Wheezy, C. Ballin, Terrace Martin, and Chordz. Altogether, they built the soundscape of My Krazy Life, giving YG room to go as hard as he wanted on each track. The 17-track album also includes guest appearances from several artists. All four singles released from My Krazy Life have guest features. These songs are “My N***a” ft. Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan, “Left, Right” ft. DJ Mustard, “Who Do You Love” ft. Drake, and “Do It to Ya” ft. TeeFlii. Undeniably, these four tracks are among the album’s best songs. Other standout tracks are “Sorry Momma” ft. Ty Dolla Sign, “Bompton”, and “Really Be” ft. Kendrick Lamar.

The Lasting Success Of My Krazy Life

In the years since its release, this album has solidified itself as a modern-day classic. When YG dropped My Krazy Life in 2014, there was no telling how successful it would become. However, the album is undeniably one of the most beloved projects he has ever released. It remains his best-selling album for a reason. It is also still his highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number two. In its own way, this album has left an indelible mark on the Hip Hop landscape, and will surely still be remembered for years to come. YG now has multiple stellar albums to his name, but he certainly set the bar high with My Krazy Life in 2014.

E.Ness Calls Diddy Accusations A “Smear Campaign”

E.Ness is the latest celebrity to speak out about the wave of sexual assault accusations against Diddy, which also involve various other alleged crimes. Moreover, he’s taking the side of folks who think this is all fake and a ploy to punish him based on false claims. For those unaware, Ness was part of Da Band, the Bad Boy rap group whose creation and career was chronicled in the MTV reality series Making The Band 2. This defense from a label mate also adds onto Sean Combs’ own denials, but their voices are quite small in the wider discourse on these allegations.

“It’s a smear campaign,” E.Ness claimed concerning the Diddy lawsuits during an interview with Directed BY CEO Nafees on YouTube. “That’s what’s happening with Puff. It’s a smear campaign. And what they usually do is they go to your personal habits. They start attacking your personal habits, your girlfriends, your exes. Then they try to find something to attack you through those vessels.” He also alleged that this is the “classic rollout” that they gave other alleged celebrity abusers like R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson, and Bill Cosby.

E.Ness Speaks On Diddy Situation

However, despite all this speculation and conflicting narratives, Diddy has popped out at least a few times for the public eye beyond just his defenses of himself. Recently, he and his family hit up Rolling Loud Los Angeles over the weekend, where he and his children got to see Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, Nicki Minaj, and likely other sets at the festival. Still, the Bad Boy mogul remains quite tight-lipped and private amid all these claims, as he has a lot of legal baggage to handle. While others agree with E.Ness’ assessment, there are far too many testimonies with too much weight to ignore.

Meanwhile, as the New York icon’s charter school also reportedly struggles to stay up to snuff, he will need many solutions his way fast. Nevertheless, what most folks want is accountability under a fair legal process, and for the industry to reckon with long-term avoidance of crimes like these. As impossible as it sounds, that fight is what matters most. For more news and the latest updates on E.Ness and Diddy, check back in with HNHH.

Why Was Vybz Kartel Jailed?

Vybz Kartel, born on January 7, 1976, is a Jamaican musician known for his infectious dancehall music. His music is especially popular in Jamaica but has also managed to spread across the world. For example, it has been confirmed that his style influenced artists like Drake, Rihanna, and Major Lazer. However, in March 2014, Vybz Kartel was sentenced to life in prison, and jailed for the murder of one of his associates, Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Since then, the popular singer has continued releasing music from his prison cell. It’s become a massive phenomenon, especially since Jamaican prison officials have denied granting him access to recording equipment and sessions. However, his case received renewed relevance a few days ago, after he finally won his appeal to overturn his murder conviction.

The Alleged Murder

The alleged murder leading to Vybz Kartel being jailed is reported to have occurred in August 2011. Moreover, the incident is said to have taken place at Kartel’s own house in Havendale, Kingston. Williams, the victim, and another man were called there for not returning two of Kartel’s unlicensed firearms at an agreed-upon date. Days later, the house burned down, and Williams disappeared. At the trial, a witness, Lamar Chow, testified to seeing Williams motionless on the ground. Prosecutors also claimed Williams was killed over the lost guns, citing text messages before his alleged murder.

And just like that, Kartel and three others (Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, Andre St. John) were convicted after a 64-day trial, one of Jamaica’s longest. Kartel had been in jail for about three years as he awaited trial.  At the end, he received a life sentence of a minimum of 35 years. However, the verdict would later be appealed, and the sentence would later be reduced to 32 years and six months in 2020.

Case Flaws

Although Vybz Kartel has been jailed since 2011, his legal team would vehemently argue that the messages used as evidence against him were obtained unlawfully. It’s since been contended that they were obtained in breach of Jamaican laws. As a result, they should therefore have reportedly been deemed inadmissible in court. Additionally, they claimed that the prosecution’s case against Kartel was riddled with flaws, and pointed out significant discrepancies during the trial process. These include missing witness statements and the inexplicable disappearance of a compact disc containing crucial evidence.

Kartel’s lawyers also raised concerns about the handling of allegations regarding jury misconduct during the trial. Specifically, they claimed that the trial judge failed to adequately address accusations that one juror had offered a substantial sum of money, 500,000 Jamaican dollars (equivalent to $3,200 USD), to fellow jurors in exchange for returning “not guilty” verdicts. This alleged misconduct, they argue, led to Vybz Kartel being jailed. These arguments were also responsible for the two appeal cases that would follow the conviction.

Appeals Against Vybz Kartel And His Co-Defendants Being Jailed

In 2020, Jamaica’s Court of Appeal ruled to reduce the sentences of Vybz Kartel and his three co-defendants. It was now decided that Kartel would spend 32 years and 6 months in prison instead of 35 years. Vybz Kartel, who had been jailed since September 29, 2011, would now be considered for release in 2046. His co-defendants Shawn Campbell and Kahira Jones, also had their sentences changed to 22 years and six months. However, Andre St John’s sentence was fixed at 27 years and six months

As aforementioned, after a second appeal, Vybz Kartel’s murder conviction was completely overturned 10 years later. On March 14, 2024, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council overturned the conviction due to the issues with the jury at the time of the first sentence. The London-based council then decreed that the Jamaican Court of Appeal would decide if there should be a new trial. Kartel’s lawyer, Isat Buchanan, said the next step is to head to the Court of Appeals in Jamaica.

Maintaining Relevance Despite Jail Time

In a head-scratching series of events, Vybz Kartel has managed to stay relevant in the music scene since he’s been jailed. For example, his Instagram account has stayed very active in that time. He also got engaged to a London-based social worker, who still represents his cause. Even more shocking is how he has managed to keep his music career active. In fact, the music legend released more than 50 songs in 2016 alone. His hit track “Fever,” was also certified Gold in June 2020.

When asked for confirmation Jamaica’s Deputy Commissioner of Corrections, Joyce Stone, said that Kartel was under investigation for making music while incarcerated. According to Stone, Kartel was not cleared to partake in the prison’s rehabilitation program, which permits inmates to engage in activities like song recording. Regardless, Kartel has continued to release albums and singles since that time. He even appeared in a video interview with Fox5 to discuss his appeal case before the Privy Council which was still pending at the time.

It is also worth mentioning that the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, where Kartel is imprisoned, is a maximum-security facility. But this would evidently not stop Kartel from maintaining his influence in the dancehall scene. A theory on how he achieved this feat occurred when Members of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) were summoned after discovering a tunnel leading from the Tower Street Prison in Kingston to a nearby church.

Vybz Kartel’s Health

Another factor driving Vybz Kartel’s urgency to resolve his case could be related to his health. A medical assessment conducted in 2023 revealed that he has been battling Graves’ Disease, a thyroid condition, for seven years. Despite medication, the condition has not improved and remains active. Additionally, Kartel suffers from two heart conditions and associated complications. Dr. Phillips, the physician mentioned in the report, has recommended surgery as soon as possible.

Kartel’s private doctor has informed authorities about the worsening of his Graves’ Disease and heart condition. They emphasized that without prompt surgical intervention, the situation could become life-threatening. In exclusive interviews, Kartel’s attorney highlighted concerns about the inhumane conditions in prison, suggesting they pose a risk to Kartel’s life. This specific reason may come in handy as the dancehall artist gears for a retrial.

Boosie Badazz is still discussing Kanye West’s recent claim about being responsible for the last 20 years of music. Speaking on his own influence during a livestream, Boosie argued that no one wants to give him his proper flowers.

“You know how many rappers I raised out there bro?” Boosie asked. “Like, who don’t give me my flowers. Everybody quiet bro. They don’t wanna be looked at. They don’t wanna be on my side and be looked at like you supporting Boosie. That’s what I be thinking it is. But, they’ll give Kanye his flowers, people like that. But, Boosie, you know.”

Fat Joe Panel Leads Discussion With Vice President Kamala Harris on Criminal Justice Reform, Cannabis and Healthcare

Fat Joe Shares That He's 'One Million Percent' Taking The COVID-19 Vaccine

Bronx-raised rap icon Fat Joe just had a high-level meeting this past Friday with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris! As TMZ reported, Joe “led a panel regarding criminal justice reform featuring Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and White House Director of the Office of Public Engagement Steve Benjamin,” where he expressed ideas and solutions for important issues in the country.

This seemed more than a photo op. Fat Joe met with VP Harris and spearheaded the conversation with other advocates of criminal justice reform, not to mention a few recipients of marijuana-related pardons. Joe had the Vice President’s audience for about an hour, and he reportedly contributed personal anecdotes from the pardoned in attendance.

TMZ was told Fat Joe expressed gratitude for how his Hip-Hop journey paved the way for a close relationship with the Veep, whom he met through Power To The Patients, his healthcare reform group. Did you know he had that? Joe has been busy in the public reform arena!

Now get this: the report also said Fat Joe could have a private chat with Kamala, and the two dished on transparency regarding healthcare prices and other issues that matter to Joe.

ICYMI, Joe also rapped with President Joe Biden, himself after the State of the Union address, which implies Joe was at the address. Both political parties were clamoring for Joe’s attention trying to score autographs and snap pics. Rightfully so, because Joe has been working the world of politics and advocacy like no other in the world of Hip-Hop, maybe he’s on to something.
