YNW Melly’s double murder trail on livestream has been getting a lot of attention and not just for the factors of the case. Melly’s attorney has now went viral ironically while attempting to speak covertly to her client.
On day one of the trial, the lawyer used a notebook to shield her conversation with Melly from unwanted observers, but the outside notebook read, “Evil Plans and Stuff”.Social media roasted the attorney for choosing that notebook to bring to a double murder trial.
YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, allegedly shot and killed his YNW crew members YNW Juvy (Chris Thomas, 20) and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21). back in 2018. He is also accused of staging the double murder as a drive-by shooting when interrogated by authorities.
The double murder trial of YNW Melly, who stands accused of killing his associates YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser, has the whole world watching. His rise to fame surged rapidly thanks to a few hit singles, which raked up a whole lot of streams thanks to this case’s high-profile nature. On Spotify alone, his biggest hits “Murder On My Mind,” “Suicidal,” “223’s” featuring 9lokknine, and “Mixed Personalities” featuring Kanye West garnered over 1,250,000 streams alone within 24 hours of court being in session, according to streaming data website kworb.net. The trial began on Monday (June 12) with opening statements, and in just two days we’ve seen many notable developments ahead of its next.
In total, the website data indicates that YNW Melly raked up over 2.6 million Spotify streams alone within that timeframe. It hasn’t been updated since, but we can assume that numbers have only continued to rise since then with impressive numbers. Given that he’s literally fighting for his life, with the possibility of the death penalty pursued by prosecutors in the jury’s hands, streams might only rise as the trial goes on. With prayers in the courtroom and displays of emotion, both positive and negative, many are morbidly captivated by the case. In fact, the Florida native gained ten platinum plaques and six gold ones from the RIAA since his arrest in 2019.
YNW Melly’s Streaming Data After Trial’s First Day
Another interesting element to this trial concerns another famous rapper. None other than Boosie Badazz went to court to show his support for YNW Melly on both days of the trial so far. While it’s unclear whether he will attend its third on Wednesday (June 14), it’s a divisive appearance. This is because the father of YNW Juvy blasted the Baton Rouge MC for showing up to trial.
“Y’all are b***hes, man,” Juvy’s father expressed. “Boosie down there supporting Melly- he flaw as f**k for that. He don’t even know that n***a Melly. He talking ’bout, ‘I want Melly free ’cause that n***a bought me snacks and a magazine at the airport.’ What? Man, go to Marlo Mike’s trial, n***a. F**k you at this n***a trial? Marlo Mike in that b***h fighting for his life, n***a. You got that man staying up the road doing all that God damn time, but you in there for Melly.” Furthermore, he told Boosie to go back home and leave their family in peace. YNW Melly’s double murder trial has been going off without nearly as many hitches as we’ve seen from the YSL RICO indictment. Of course, there have still been noteworthy reports coming from the courtroom, such as the accused killer’s apparent praying before jurors entered the courtroom on day two. Prior to that, on Monday (June 12), Melly seemingly shed a tear while watching the footage of the two associates he’s been accused of killing.
As VladTV reports, another moment making rounds online from one of this week’s live streams shows Melly and his attorney talking, using a notebook to hide their mouths. This is obviously common practice in the courtroom, but lawyers don’t always have “Evil Plans and Stuff” written across the front of their notebook. Considering the crimes the 23-year-old has been accused of committing, and the fact that he’s facing the death penalty, some social media users are feeling as though it was an unprofessional decision.
“When your defense attorney is the opps ,” one person joked. “Why would you EVER bring that to court with you? OMG!!!!” another user pondered, prompting the OP to write back, “Just a wild thing to not only bring to court but flash in front of the jury lol.” According to reports from Law & Crime correspondents, the 12-person jury has been “death qualified,” and consists of nine women. They also appear to be between the ages of 33-50.
Day two of the highly publicized trial wrapped up earlier this afternoon, and is set to resume at 9 AM ET on Wednesday (June 13). Melly was reportedly “all smiles and in great spirits” during his exits, leaving the family of his alleged victims with a bitter taste in their mouths.

YNW Melly’s murder trial for allegedly killing YNW Jury and YNW SakChaser has gotten no shortage of updates since its beginning on Monday (June 12). Moreover, one of the most illuminating pieces of eyewitness reports we’ve gotten concern the Florida rapper’s demeanor throughout. For example, firsthand testimonies in the courtroom claimed that Melly seemingly cried as hospital footage of his alleged victims played during proceedings. However, new reports show a different side to the story. According to court correspondent Bryson “Boom” Paul of the Law & Crime Network, the victims’ families recoiled at the 24-year-old’s attitude.
“Victims family is disgusted by [YNW Melly] displaying a devious grin and brushing his chin,” the journalist wrote. “Family is in disbelief at his new demeanor.” While there is understandably little photographic evidence to accompany many of these statements, there is a livestream available to watch the trial unfold. In addition, you will find no shortage of footage that made its way to sites like Twitter. All that is to say that this is a more publicly available process than many might believe, so each will come to their own conclusions.
YNW Melly Reportedly Grinning In Court To Victims’ Families’ Dismay
Regardless, Paul is among many journalists who have provided consistent updates on every moment of the trial. One of the most recent developments has been YNW Melly appearing to pray before trial began on Tuesday (June 13). In addition, he is not the only popular rap figure present in the courtroom. Boosie Badazzshowed up in support of Melly, and reporters updated fans on him as well. Fredo Bang’s name also came up from prosecutors, who claim that the alleged killer asked Bang to pick him up after the murder.
Meanwhile, the defense argued that another suspect already admitted to the double murder via Instagram. Also on Instagram, the Gifford, Florida native asked fans to pray for him and watch the trial’s livestream. Under new Florida state law enacted by Ron DeSantis, it might be easier for Melly to face the death penalty. As such, many are concerned for his life regardless of guilt, as he is the first on trial subject to these new changes. But to have the victims’ family witness these good spirits must not be easy. Ahead of his second day in court, YNW Melly’s team shared a post to his Instagram page not only promoting the live stream of the proceedings but also asking for prayers for the embattled artist. Melly – real name Jamell Demons – can rest assured that at least a few of his over four million followers sent him their well wishes, but that didn’t stop him from seemingly praying for himself as well. In a clip from Law & Crime‘s coverage of the double murder trial reposted to @nojumper, Melly appears to take a moment to calm down and connect with God before quickly freshening up his outfit.
“Before jurors entered the courtroom this morning, @YNWMelly appeared to pray, holding his hands to his face then slowly lowering them to his side,” reporters wrote on Twitter this afternoon (June 13). “He later closed his eyes and took a deep breath,” they added. As the clip continues to circulate on social media, some critics are speculating that Demons was actually conducting a spell of some sort. Those with more empathy remarked that sitting on trial with a death sentence weighing on your shoulders has to be “the world feeling ever.”
According to other reports from the courthouse, Melly has been “all smiles” since returning from his lunch break today. “He is known for his charismatic appeal. It’s on full display right now,” correspondent Bryson “Boom” Paul remarked. Elsewhere, the journalist has been taking note of Boosie Badazz’s demeanour during testimony.
The Louisana native, who previously beat murder charges of his own in 2012, was in court on day one as well. At the time, he came annoyed with a man near him sleeping during the proceedings and failed to return after a break. Today, however, Boosie was notably serious as the prosecution questioned Tara Carroll, the crime scene investigator at Miramar P.D. So far, he’s the only rapper to show Demons any support.

YNW Melly looked pleased to finally be in court for his double-murder trial yesterday (June 12). Years after surrendering himself to authorities in 2019, the Florida native is now facing the death penalty if found guilty of killing two of his associates – YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser – in a brutal shooting. Not only got he receive the fatal sentence, but Melly is actually the first person to be tried under new state law allowing a jury to convict with a minimum 8-4 vote rather than the usual unanimous 12.
On the first day of proceedings, we heard testimony from prosecutors and their witnesses on the Law & Crime live stream. It was alleged that Melly recruited fellow lyricist Fredo Bang to pick him up after the incident went down. While the “Murder On My Mind” hitmaker was running from the scene of the crime, his accomplice, YNW Bortlen, drove the shooting victims to the hospital. While in court, footage of the vehicle driving up outside was played. Melly even appeared to shed a tear while seeing the bodies of his late friends carried into the building.
The 23-year-old’s former attorney, Bradford Cohen, has said that it will be very difficult for Melly to be found guilty. Perhaps the most difficult part will be proving beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused pulled the trigger. “When I was on the case, I had a very clear path to the defense. I believe there are some large holes in the case for the prosecution,” the celebrity lawyer wrote on IG yesterday.
Elsewhere on social media, a post has been shared to the alleged murderer’s profile today (June 13). It encourages fans to tune into the live stream and send him prayers as he awaits his fate. Will you be tuning into day two of YNW Melly’s double-murder trial? Let us know in the comments, and read what Boosie Badazz’s experience at the courthouse supporting his young friend yesterday was like at the link below.
It’s been a wild few months in terms of rappers on trial, from the YSL RICO indictment finally making headway (though they’re still stuck in the jury selection process months later) to Tory Lanez’s arrest after he was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in late 2022. Today (June 12), another case is beginning to unfold in Broward County. YNW Melly, who’s on trial for double murder, is currently in court and could be sentenced to death should prosecutors have their way.
Of course, the 23-year-old’s family members are supporting him, but Melly also had another lyricist drop by. Just a few hours ago, Boosie Badazz posted up on Instagram in a flashy orange and black suit and plenty of ice on his neck, wrist, and fingers. “@ynwmelly TRIAL!!! Opening Day,” the Louisana native wrote in the caption after recording himself walking through the hallway. He obviously wasn’t able to record while inside, but thankfully journalists provided hilarious updates on Boosie for fans.
“@BOOSIEOFFICIAL, supporting @YNWMelly is annoyed by the man sitting next to him sleeping during testimony,” one of the messages reads. It’s easy to picture the 40-year-old’s reaction to the situation, and his annoyance may even be why Boosie opted not to return after they broke for lunch.
Other information we’ve learned over the past few hours reveals that the “death qualified” jury of 12 consists of six Black people, and nine total females. The last time the fatal sentence was given out in Broward County was in 2015, also to a Black male convicted of first-degree murder.

Emotions are running high in Broward County, Florida today as YNW Melly’s double-murder trial finally kicks off. The embattled star has been behind bars since 2019. Now, attorneys will attempt to prove his innocence in the gruesome slaying of two affiliates nearly five years ago. Fans have heard semi-regular updates from Melly via Instagram during the wait. They’ve chiefly included details of the alleged abuse he’s endured at the hands of correctional staff.
When appearing in court on Monday (June 12), the “Murder On My Mind” hitmaker seemed to be in good spirits. His long hair was pulled out of his face, and he donned a navy blue suit, looking far more grown up than when he was first locked up on first-degree murder charges. So far today, those in attendance have heard opening statements that, according to Melly’s former lawyer, Bradford Cohen, prove the prosecution has “an uphill battle ahead of them.”
As per AllHipHop, Cohen shared via Instagram that there are many “difficult issues” for them to prove, such as Melly’s pulling of the trigger. “The faulty investigation, motive, no DNA, no GSR [gunshot residue], no murder weapon, no evidence that he pulled the trigger. Very tough case for a prosecutor,” the celebrity attorney explained. Part of what was presented today included footage of YNW’s alleged accomplice arriving at the hospital with the two victims, claiming they had been a part of a drive-by shooting.
As the video played, many women related to the deceased left the courtroom. At the same time, the accused killer appears to wipe his eyelids, seemingly overwhelmed with deep feelings. It’s likely YNW Melly’s emotion is only amplified by the potential of the death penalty looming on his shoulders. While it was previously removed as an option in his case, more recent updates have made it easier than ever for the 23-year-old to receive the fatal sentence. Read all about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
After years of waiting behind bars, it’s officially time for YNW Melly’s double-murder trial. Things are finally kicking off today (June 12) in Broward County, Florida. As Miami New Times reports, the rapper is facing charges of killing two of his affiliates back in October 2018. YNW Sakchaser (born Anthony Williams) and YNW Juvy (Christopher Thomas Jr.) were reportedly shot at by Melly inside a gray Jeep Compass. Afterward, they were driven to the emergency room by his accomplice, Cortlen Henry.
The accused killer and his assistant assert that Sakchaser and Juvy were killed in a drive-by shooting. However, prosecutors in the case state that the forensic evidence shows the story was fabricated. Melly (real name Jamell Demons) turned himself in in February 2019. Police subsequently arrested him on capital murder charges. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old has vehemently denied the allegations against him in the years since. Attorneys have long attempted to free the “Murder On My Mind” artist as he sat behind bars awaiting trial to no avail.
Watch YNW Melly’s Trial Unfold Live from Broward County
From what we’ve seen from the courtroom so far today, the Florida native seems to be in good spirits, especially considering the recent update regarding the death penalty potentially looming over his head. While he temporarily had that sentence taken off the table ahead of trial, things took a dramatic turn earlier this month when it was confirmed Demons will be the first person tried under a new law making it easier than ever for a jury to make the fatal decision. Rather than securing a unanimous vote, they instead simply need to rule 8-4 in favour of ending Melly’s life.
Things are only just getting started in Broward County this morning, but there are sure to be plenty of noteworthy updates coming our way later this week. In February 2019, Florida rapper YNW Melly was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder. Born Jamell Demons, the then-19-year-old was amid a swelling rap career under the YNW Melly moniker. From collaborating with Kanye West to delivering the hit single “Murder On My Mind,” he had a highly successful career ahead of him. Unfortunately, the song was more-so engrained in reality rather than fiction than fans would’ve thought.
Demons had an early fascination with music as an outlet for his chaotic childhood. Listening to artists like Chris Brown, he began recording music as a wild teenager. His mother gave birth to him when she was the mere age of 14. However, that lack of guidance would manifest in various unhealthy fixations. Demons took a precocious interest in guns as early as elementary school. In fact, he’s openly discussed bringing a revolver with him to school daily in fourth grade.
YNW Melly Had A Past Of Violence
YNW Melly’s song “Murder On My Mind” was rooted in his fixation with firearms. As a 16-year-old, he was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of discharging a firearm in a public setting. He later told Billboard that being locked up inspired his chorus on the track, stating, “The first time I got locked up. I was like 15 or 16. I woke up and I had that chorus.”
On the track, Melly states, “His body dropped down to the floor and he had teardrops in his eyes/ He grabbed me by my hands and said he was afraid to die/ I told ’em it’s too late my friend, it’s time to say ‘goodbye.’” In retrospect, his fixation with violence was certainly unhealthier than the traditional discussions surrounding the topic in hip-hop. However, “Murder On My Mind” was released when outraged barbarity became mainstream hip-hop’s mainstay. Amid the SoundCloud era of sound, YNW Melly’s hit track blended in with other trap-banger hits that covered similar narratives.
Demons & YNW Bortlen Face Two Counts Of Murder
Before being arrested in February 2019 for the murder of two of his past friends, he had been in and out of prison. It’s a wonder that YNW even managed to grow his career continually. He was in a cyclical and chaotic routine. Melly would spend roughly six months in prison, then create music and persistently tour when he was out. On August 3, 2018, he released his first full-length mixtape in the form of I Am You. From a Chris Brown interpolation to the maternal ode in the form of “Mama Cry,” the mixtape blended his signature bangers with a softer side to his creative personality.
While creating his first full-length studio album, YNW Melly was associated with a new controversy. Christopher Thomas Jr and Anthony Williams, members of the YNW crew, were shot and killed on October 26, 2018. The two were dead before police arrived at the scene. Known as close friends and fellow MCs to Melly, he took to social media to mourn their passing, stating, “They took my brothers from me over jealousy.”
A few months later, Melly’s official documentary arrived on YouTube. The documentary primarily focuses on his troubling prison life and rise to fame. However, the end of the video claims that YNW Melly and his two murdered friends were the targets of a drive-by shooting in Miami. On the same day, he revealed that he was recording with Kanye West for the rumored Yandhi.
Melly Is Potentially Facing The Death Penalty
While Kanye West and YNW Melly were reportedly working together on music, Melly was arrested on murder charges along with Cortlen Henry, known as YNW Bortlen, on February 13, 2019. Police alleged that he shot and killed Thomas Jr and Williams. Furthermore, they accused Melly of staging the deaths as a drive-by shooting to clear his name.
Even during Melly’s time in prison, he continued releasing albums likely in the vault before he began serving time. Melly vs. Melvin spent 31 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts. Just a Matter of Slime featured Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, Future, and more. The album debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 charts.
Since YNW Melly was imprisoned on murder charges, he has yet to see the light of day. Melly is set to face trial on the week of June 20th, with the jury selection process still ongoing. Per Florida’s recent law changes, only eight juror votes are now required to recommend the death penalty if a defendant is found guilty. This isn’t the case for Henry, who has been under house arrest since 2020. Now 24, YNW Melly has received a slew of supportive messages under the tag #FreeMelly. His little brother, dubbed YNW BSlime, has been releasing multiple tracks calling for his release.
