The Most Anticipated Hip-Hop Albums Of Spring 2024

The arrival of spring doesn’t just mean the awakening of nature (and the loss of an hour of sleep), it also brings the recording industry back to life. While the early months of Q1 can generally be a little sleepy — with a few exceptions, of course — as the weather creeps back toward the warmth of the summer, we can expect more new releases from some of the biggest names in music.

These days, it can be a little tricky to anticipate which artists are aiming for a spring release, though. Album release cycles have gotten shorter and shorter, and in hip-hop especially, new projects can fall out of the sky with little to no warning. With that said, we’re going to do our best to run through the most anticipated hip-hop releases of the season, under the assumption that most if not all of the artists named here would like a dominant run thoughout the summer — or at least, some new material for the festivals. Let’s start with the ones we know:

March 2024 Hip-Hop Releases

March 14: Kenny Mason — 9

Atlanta rapper Kenny Mason is easily one of the hottest names simmering just under the radar thanks to his distinctive, grungy style and high-profile co-signs from the likes of Denzel Curry, Freddie Gibbs, and JID. 9 will be his second album after 2020’s Angelic Hoodrat. He just released a pair of singles that suggest his unique blend of shoegaze, grunge rock, and screamo-rap is primed for its next evolution.

March 15: Tierra Whack — World Wide Whack

Fans of the Philly battle rapper turned whimsical mad scientist have been waiting for a proper album for going on six years now. Her 2018 EP Whack World introduced listeners to a fantastical approach toward genre and subject matter that established Whack as one of the most intriguing names in hip-hop, and her debut album — which she announced this January — will give her the opportunity to expand on that foundation.

March 22: Future & Metro Boomin — We Don’t Trust You

It’s only been two months and some change and already a pattern is beginning to develop. If you’re going to release an album fans have been waiting for for years, it seems, you might as well turn it into multiple projects with release dates scattered across months. Kanye (sorta) did it, and now, Metro Boomin and Future are following in his footsteps, announcing that their heavily anticipated joint album will be released in two parts. The first arrives in March.

March 29: Rico Nasty & Boys Noize — HVRDC0RE DR3AMZ

On Leap Day, Rico Nasty announced that her ongoing chemistry with German DJ Boys Noize would bear another new fruit in the form of a joint EP. After teaming up on “Girl Crush” and “Money,” two of Rico’s more intriguing songs of the past few years, it’ll be fascinating to see her step more into her collaborator’s world on the EP, following a number of peers in blending hip-hop with various styles of EDM.

April 2024 Hip-Hop Releases

April 12: Future & Metro Broomin — We Still Don’t Trust You

The second of Future and Metro’s collaborations will arrive just two weeks after the first, an impressive turnaround time that has paid dividends for the Atlanta rapper in the past. Future’s 2017 albums Future and Hndrxx were released just a week apart and both halves of the pair went No. 1, while the first spawned the massive hit “Mask Off” — which was, of course, produced by Metro Boomin. Their creative chemistry is certainly something to look forward to.

April 26: AG Club – BRODIE WORLD

The Northern California rap clique shook up the world in 2020 with the release of their breakout hit “Memphis,” and has kept up a steady stream of releases ever since. With each, they grow a little more polished and a little more experimental, growing into their group name (Avant Garde Club) a little more. BRODIE WORLD will be their first proper release since 2022’s Imposter Syndrome, which is exciting because there’s a lot of growth that can happen in two years.

2024 Hip-Hop Albums Release TBA

Here’s where we start speculating. A large number of rap’s biggest names are set to release albums this year, many of whom will be returning from multi-year hiatuses, making the products of their time away all the more tantalizing. Below are just a few.

ASAP Rocky — Don’t Be Dumb

Rocky’s last album was 2018’s Testing. That’s a long time to go without hearing a new full collection of music from the haute couture Harlemite, who’s been busy with fatherhood (and some ill-timed legal trouble). His album has supposedly been done since 2022, so it’s only a matter of time until he gives listeners a release date; here’s hoping it’s sooner rather than later.

Baby Keem — Child With Wolves

Baby Keem made a huge splash in 2021 with his electrifying debut The Melodic Blue, and recently began teasing a new era after releasing the album’s companion film late last year.

Cardi B — TBA

Let’s say Cardi finally kicks her rollout into high gear after releasing two singles in six months, “Bongos” and “Like What,” and teasing another. It seems she keeps dipping her toe back into an album cycle, but a mean case of imposter syndrome combined with impossibly high standards has made determining if she’s really shooting her shot or just pump-faking again almost impossible to determine. She’s fortunate to be one of the few artists who can keep getting away with this pretty much indefinitely, but I’d like to hope she’s accepted the fear of potential failure and just goes for it. (Or pulls a Kendrick Lamar in 2014 and goes full avant-garde with it, scaring the hoes and making herself pretty much untouchable for the foreseeable future.)

Flo Milli — Fine Ho, Stay

Announced in October 2023, Flo Milli’s second album has the potential to turn her into a household name — especially with the ongoing and growing success of its single “Never Lose Me.” If she wants to strike while the iron is hot, a spring release might be her best bet to maintain momentum.

GloRilla — TBA

Big Glo has a lot of buzz around her name right now, both for her hard-hitting new single “Yeah Glo!” and an oopsie moment on Instagram thanks to her unfamiliarity with her new endowments. Might as well capitalize ahead of the summer, right?

Ice Spice — Y2K

TikTok star and current rap it-girl Ice Spice has been sneakily rolling out her debut album over the past few months, beginning with flying a flag at her label headquarters, dropping another catchy single, and announcing that her album is finished recording. There’s no time like the present, and with her penchant for dropping summertime-dominating tracks, an April or May release would give her plenty of lead time to once again take over the hottest months.

J. Cole — The Fall Off

The only other rapper whose album has been consistently sought after since 2018 (mostly by his own design), J. Cole could overtake friendly rivals Drake and Kendrick Lamar in the conversation if he manages to beat them both to market this year.

Rapsody — TBA

Poor Rapsody. If you happen to follow the North Carolina rapper on social media, you’ve probably seen her repost the near-constant stream of pleas from fans for a follow-up to 2019’s Eve. She’s been promising an announcement is coming imminently, and considering the curtailed album cycles of the current climate, if she does make that announcement in the next few weeks or months, that would almost certainly mean an album is following relatively quickly after.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Tierra Whack Drops Somber “27 CLUB” Ahead Of Her Debut Album

Tierra Whack is one of the most bubbly and entertaining voices in hip-hop period. Her style and approach to the creation of music is truly one of a kind. It is part of the reason why fans are so pumped for her to finally drop her first true album. She does have Whack World from 2018. However, almost every single track was at demo length and it came across as more of an EP.

Listeners can expect WORLD WIDE WHACK on March 15 and there are two songs that have spawned ahead of and during the rollout. 2023’s “Chanel Pit” is one that may or may not land on it, but Genius says otherwise. “SHOWER SONG” is a definite for the tracklist. While it is a simple song at its core, it still embraces Tierra Whack’s uniqueness.

Listen To “27 CLUB” By Tierra Whack

It is a song literally about why she loves to shower. It is a total far cry from what “27 CLUB” is all about. Tierra shows off her range both emotionally and vocally. The soft and twinkly production, along with the drum patterns that reappear every once in a while, set the tone for the theme. It is a sad and lonely cut about ending it all yourself. Like we said, totally different than the happy-go-lucky attitude of “SHOWER SONG.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “27 Club,” by Tierra Whack? Is this the best song from the upcoming album WORLD WIDE WHACK? Will this be the strongest release by any female rapper for 2024? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:

Suicide (Hey, hey, woah, ah, ah, wait)
The coach got me doin’ suicide too
Suicide (Hey, hey, woah, ah, ah, wait)
Yeah, the coach got me doin’ suicide too (Hey, hey, woah, ah, ah, wait)
Like a glass full but I’m empty
Said, “I’m broken, can you fix me?”

Tierra Whack Invites Us Into Her Mind On Her New Song, ’27 Club’

Tierra Whack never shies away from raw emotion. Ahead of her upcoming debut album, World Wide Whack, Whack has shared “27 Club,” her poignant, heartbreaking new single.

On “27 Club,” Whack details the dark thoughts that occasionally come to her mind. The song’s title itself refers to a group of musicians — which includes Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse — who died at 27 years old.

“When the world seems like it’s against you / When your friends and family forget you / It ain’t really hard to convince you /Looking for something to commit to?,” she sings on one of the song’s verses.

The song’s music video is expected to arrive later today (February 16). In a teaser clip for the video, Whack is seen in costume, with a stoic look on her face. She is carrying a mask made in the likeness of her face, however, the mask is smiling.

Last year, Whack spoke with Lil Yachty in a conversation for Rolling Stone. During their chat, Whack noted that she is not fazed by any sort of competition.

“If I’m just being myself and following my own path, I can’t see anything else,” said Whack. “I’m just focused on me and having fun and being myself.”

You can listen to “27 Club” above.

Whack World is out 3/15 via Interscope. Find more information here.

Tierra Whack Tells Us Why She Loves Freshening Up On “SHOWER SONG”

One of the main draws about Tierra Whack is her willingness to really put herself out there and challenge the boundaries she can push. In doing so she also asks the listener to see how far they are willing to go in trying something new. That is what Tierra is doing on this brand-new single, “SHOWER SONG.” This serves as the second track she has shown off from her debut album.

As it stands right now, WORLD WIDE WHACK will be available on all streaming platforms on March 15. Sadly, it is still just over two months away. Before this, Tierra put out “Chanel Pit” back in early November. While there were articles written that she was going to be dropping her debut back then, we know all the information.

Listen To “SHOWER SONG” By Tierra Whack

“SHOWER SONG” is anything but your typical rap song. But, that should be expected from Tierra. At its core, it is a cut about loving to take showers. Singing while freshening up is a great guilty pleasure that most people have and she wanted to share that she has that same feeling. Tierra hilariously compares herself to some of the greatest singers ever. The shower gives her the confidence to sing like Aretha Franklin, Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, and Whitney Houston. The funky and minimal beat, paired with the vibrant music video just adds up to how creative the Pennsylvanian is.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “SHOWER SONG,” by Tierra Whack? Will this be the best song on the album, why or why not? Are you excited for her to finally drop her debut project in March? Is this the better of the two songs, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Tierra Whack. Quotable Lyrics:

I be scrubin’ to the groove (Yeah)
I ain’t into takin’ baths (No)
Sometimes I do (Yeah)
Just so I can soak my a** (Soap)
Man, I love the echo (Echo)
‘Cause the shower like the stage (Stage)

Tierra Whack Gets Ready For The Day With The Funky, Playful ‘Shower Song’

Tierra Whack is back. While seemingly half of the women in rap are busy chucking insults at one another lately, the former Philly battle MC is floating over all of it as she preps for the release of her debut album, World Wide Whack. After sharing the “Chanel Pit” video back in November, Whack follows up today with the video for “Shower Song.”

Although it’s a crowded release day, fans of innovative, left-of-center hip-hop should allow themselves to overlook “Shower Song.” The video, directed by Alex Da Corte, is a typical avant-garde Whack affair, with cartoony, pop art-influenced imagery blending stop motion animation, high fashion, and colorful sets that perfectly complement Whack’s playful delivery and the funky, uptempo beat. As far as the content goes, no, there are no acid-tongued jabs at any of her peers; in fact, it’s pretty mundane subject matter for a modern rap song.

Whack’s only boast here is that she sounds great singing in the shower while getting ready to start her day. The only brand she flexes is Dove soap. It’s kind of refreshing and it’s a cheeky, sly reminder that hip-hop is what we make it. It doesn’t have to be about street shootouts, drug sales, and traumatic relationships. It can be fun and bright and kind of silly and just about the regular stuff we all do every day. There’s room for more. Bravo to Tierra Whack for opening up the sonic palette and once again pushing boundaries — even if they aren’t the boundaries anyone expected to be pushed.

You can check out the music video above and the slightly longer lyric video below. World Wide Whack is due on March 15 via Interscope.

  1. Tierra Whack set the rap world on its ear in 2018 with the release of the Whack World EP, garnering a buzz that has yet to die down. Since then, she’s released a handful of well-received singles, along with a trio of cheeky EPs highlighting the difficulty of classifying her sound (Rap?, Pop?, and R&B?, all in 2021). Today, though, she’s finally announced her long-awaited debut album, World Wide Whack, which drops on March 15 via Interscope. “I really took my time with this,” she wrote on her social channels. “So I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.”

https://twitter.com/TierraWhack/status/1749477809146224780

The first single will be called “Shower Song” and will come out this Friday, January 26. Whack previewed the song earlier this month with a snippet accompanied by a silly social video featuring bathwater and hot dogs. The song is upbeat and lighthearted with light funk production and Whack’s usual blend of singing, rapping, and offbeat humor.

Whack’s most recently released single, “Chanel Pit,” was released on November 7 last year, however, there are no indications as yet that it will appear on World Wide Whack. Still, it was during the Apple Music interview accompanying its release that she first hinted that her album was on the way, saying, “I promise. It’s done. It’s finished. We’re just making it all make sense, putting the pieces together, and we’re giving it to you.”

World Wide Whack is out on 3/15 via Interscope. “Shower Song” is out 1/26. You can get more info here.

Tierra Whack Freshens Up In A Car Wash In Her New ‘Chanel Pit’ Video

Tierra Whack has another hit on her hands. Today (November 7), the Philly rapper has shared her new single and video for “Chanel Pit.”

The song is a dedication to Whack‘s fans, who have gone hard for her over the years. She alludes to the mosh pits at her shows in the song’s chorus, as she sings “mosh pit smell like Chanel / Yes, Microsoft, I’ma Excel / nine, ten, eleven, f*ck 12,”

Whack is specifically alluding to the Chanel Gabrielle fragrance, which she has been wearing for years. In an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Whack said the perfume has become her “signature scent.”

“I think I was at an event, a show, a concert or something, and [my friend] pulled up and he said he knew that I was there because he knows my scent,” said Whack. “I don’t know if it was an Earl Sweatshirt concert or something. It was something. But everybody’s like, moshing going crazy. And he was like, I was walking, he was like, ‘I smell Whack. She’s here.’ Then he made his way backstage and he found me, and he was like, ‘Yo.’ That always just stuck in my head.”

In the song’s accompanying music video, Whack is seen rapping, as she rotates through an automatic car wash, setting the stage for a new era.

Elsewhere in her aforementioned interview, Whack revealed that her new album will arrive early next year.

“I promise. It’s done. It’s finished,” said Whack. “We’re just making it all make sense, putting the pieces together, and we’re giving it to you.”

You can see the video for “Chanel Pit” above.
