Taraji P. Henson Recalls Asking Oprah For Food, Dressing Rooms On “The Color Purple” Set

During her interview with Gayle King last month, Taraji P. Henson got emotional while reflecting on being underpaid throughout her career. Her comments have since managed to spark a major discussion about gender and racial disparities in the entertainment industry. Countless social media users and peers have chimed in, including Keke Palmer, Chance The Rapper, Boosie Badazz, and more.

She later shared some of the mistreatment she’s endured as a Black actress in Hollywood in an interview with the New York Times, claiming that the cast of The Color Purple were given rental cars to get to set. “They gave us rental cars, and I was like, ‘I can’t drive myself to set in Atlanta,’” she explained. “This is insurance liability, it’s dangerous. Now they robbing people. What do I look like, taking myself to work by myself in a rental car? So I was like, ‘Can I get a driver or security to take me?’ I’m not asking for the moon. They’re like, ‘Well, if we do it for you, we got to do it for everybody.’ Well, do it for everybody! It’s stuff like that, stuff I shouldn’t have to fight for. I was on the set of Empire fighting for trailers that wasn’t infested with bugs.”

Danielle Brooks Says Henson Was The Cast’s “Voice”

Now, a clip of Danielle Brooks sharing how Henson advocated for her castmates has surfaced, in which she reveals that she had to ask Oprah directly for accommodations. According to her, actors weren’t given private dressing rooms or food on the set of The Color Purple. Eventually, Oprah heard about this and called Henson, who let her know that something needed to be done. From there, the issues were squared away, but it remains shocking that a group of award-winning actors even had to ask.

What do you think of Danielle Brooks opening up about being on the set of The Color Purple? What about her claim that they didn’t have their own dressing rooms or food on set until Oprah caught wind of the situation? Oprah Will Interview Taraji P. Henson Amid Complaints About “The Color Purple”

The Color Purple remake is finally out, and two stars heavily involved in its making are coming together for a chat. Moreover, Oprah Winfrey recently announced that she will interview Taraji P. Henson tonight (Saturday, January 6) on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) at 10PM (time zone unclear). However, if you miss the live airing, it will be available on MAX afterwards. “Cookie Lyons. Katherine Johnson. Yvette. And now Shug Avery. Those are the many characters @tarajiphenson has brought to life in ways only she could,” she captioned a picture of her with the actress. “Join us tonight as we sit down to discuss her career and the sisterhood she formed with @thecolorpurple cast! #OWNSpotlight with Taraji P. Henson airs tonight at 10 PM on @owntv and available on @streamonmax after [purple heart emoji].”

Furthermore, this is interesting considering a recent complaint Taraji P. Henson had about this movie’s production. “They gave us rental cars, and I was like, ‘I can’t drive myself to set in Atlanta,’” she told The New York Times in a recent interview. “This is insurance liability, it’s dangerous. Now they robbing people. What do I look like, taking myself to work by myself in a rental car?

Oprah Announces Interview With Taraji P. Henson Tonight

“So I was like, ‘Can I get a driver or security to take me?’” Taraji P. Henson continued. “I’m not asking for the moon. They’re like, ‘Well, if we do it for you, we got to do it for everybody.’ Well, do it for everybody! It’s stuff like that, stuff I shouldn’t have to fight for. I was on the set of Empire fighting for trailers that wasn’t infested with bugs.

“[The fight] wears on your soul because you fight so hard to establish a name for yourself and be respected in this town to no avail,” she concluded. “With Black films, they just don’t want to take us overseas and I don’t understand that. Black translates all over the world, so why wouldn’t the movies? I have a following in China of all places. Y’all not going to capitalize on that? Don’t everybody want to make money here? I’m not the person that pulls the race card every time, but what else is it, then? Tell me. I’d rather it not be race, please give me something else.” For more news and the latest updates on Taraji P. Henson and Oprah Winfrey, check back in with HNHH.

Boosie Badazz Calls Milan Christopher A Gay Slur Amid “The Color Purple” Drama

Earlier this week, Boosie Badazz took to Twitter to share his take on the film The Color Purple, which he claims he took his young daughter to see. Unfortunately, however, they ended up leaving the theater early. According to Boosie, it was far too inappropriate for his little one to see, as he felt like it was “pushing the narrative.”

For obvious reasons, Boosie’s Tweet earned him quite a bit of backlash from fans and peers, who felt like queer themes were some of the least disturbing elements of the film. Milan Christopher, for one, had some choice words for the Louisiana native. “Y’all wana know something-Im so Fuqn sick of Boosie l*me ahz,” the openly gay performer wrote. “You mean to tell me you walked out on Color Purple when the gay love scene happened BUT STAYED WHEN THE RAPE, BEATING, MOLESTATION, & SELLING OF LITTLE BLACK GIRLS OCCURRED? Typical, Slow ahz contradicting ahz dweeb!”

Milan Christopher Puts Boosie Badazz On Blast

“There is not another so called ‘STRAIGHT’ person in Sports, Politics, Music & Rap history that is more obsessed WITH GHEEYS & Their lifestyle than LIL BOOCHIE BOOTISIE CAT,” he added. “Every month, Every week & every interview he is the alphabet community business- Like what tf is really going on Aunty?” Boosie saw his Tweets, followed Christopher, and ultimately sent him a pretty offensive DM. “Shut yo f****t a** up lol,” he said.

Milan Christopher isn’t the only fellow celebrity to speak up following Boosie’s The Color Purple criticism, however. Trans TV personality and actress Ts Madison also slammed the rapper for his comments, resulting in a Twitter feud. “There is truly some intervention needed in your life to sort out these homosexual demons you’re fighting,” she told him. What do you think of Milan Christopher going after Boosie Badazz for his take on The Color Purple? What about the DM Boosie sent him? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Boosie Badazz & Ts Madison Keep Going At It Over “The Color Purple” Critique

Boosie Badazz and Ts Madison have continued their social media rampage against one another on Wednesday (January 3) into Thursday. Moreover, this began when the trans reality TV star called the rapper out for his dislike of the remake of The Color Purple and its queer themes and references. They launched lengthy responses to one another over Twitter which, if they continue, likely won’t get any nicer to one another. Regardless, this is a pretty persistent debate, and it’s clear that neither side is really trying to get the other to concede.

U SEEM OFFENDED BECAUSE THE TRUTH HURTS [crying-laughing emoji],” Boosie wrote. “THE MOVIE HAD GREAT ACTING BUT ITS JUST NOT APPROPRIATE FOR MY LITTLE GIRLS TO WATCH. N ITS NOT JUST ME. TRANSEXUAL MADDY THAT FEELS THIS WAY SMH. GO READ ALL THE COMMENTS ACROSS SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT THE FILM. ITS A ‘LESBIAN CLASSIC’ but GOOD FILM N JUST CAUSE SOMEONE DONT AGREE THAT MAKES THEM HOMOSEXUAL. SO EVERYONE WHO DISAGREES IS [rainbow emoji]. MAYBE YOURE MAD AT YOURSELF? U BEEN MAD AT ME SINCE I TOLD THE TRANNY SWIMMER ‘GET OUT THE DAMN POOL’ LEAVE ME ALONE MY N***A.”

Boosie & Ts Madison’s Beef Continues: Read

“BELOVED @BOOSIEOFFICIAL…” Ts Madison started her returning fire. “I am not in any way angered at your sir. There is no accountability ever taken for any of the contributions you add to the demise of OUR community. OUR community as in Black peoples. You had folx agreeing with you because they are just as misguided in their thoughts as You! You again sat with your daughter through all the parts dehumanizing and demeaning a BLACK woman, sex slave a black woman and beat a black woman. The moment she finds love from a woman from up under black men abuse it’s TOO MUCH? And now becomes a Gay agenda?

More Tweets From Their Back & Forth

“I shouldn’t expect much from a Man who paid grown women to sexually assault his teenage son and nephew thinkin that makes him ‘A man,’” she continued. “No sir That makes them And YOU a mister!! As long as you speak on making our existence as LGBT people an agenda to hurt kids… I’ll be right here to remind you of your part in damaging kids. Be blessed beloved.” For more news and the latest updates on Boosie and Ts Madison, stick around on HNHH.

Ts Madison Fires Back At Boosie BadAzz Over “The Color Purple” Criticism

Ts Madison took issue with Boosie BadAzz’s recent criticism of the movie, The Color Purple. The rapper had revealed that he walked out of the film with his daughters in a rant on Twitter, earlier this week. Madison responded on Instagram, on Tuesday, suggesting he get help to deal with the “homosexual demons” he’s fighting.

“So #lilboosie you sat there with your daughter while [Celie’s] ‘Daddy’ took her [second] child that he fathered and gave it to the pastor and his wife. You sat there with your daughter while Mister came and bought her from her daddy at 14,” Ts Madison said in the post. She added: “You sat there with your daughter while MISTER enslaved CELIE to cook and clean his nasty house with HIS children. You sat there with your daughter and watched MISTER beat, sexually destroy and drag Celie all over the floor. You sat there with your daughter and watched MISTER bring his side chick into the house with CELIE.”

Madison continued: “Then you try and come to social media and bring the ‘what about the kids mane’ campaign you been on and attempt to use God to justify you and the people who stand with you???? Tuh… and they call us DELUSIONAL. Sir: the character you play in real life is MISTER, The Daddy, The pastor and all the other men who abused CELIE in that movie!! “The Color Purple” LGBTQ+ Themes Continue To Upset Boosie Badazz

Boosie Badazz is a man with many opinions, and he’s certainly not shy about sharing them. If you follow the 41-year-old on social media, you may have heard his controversial thoughts on The Color Purple – an Oprah Winfrey-produced product featuring acting performances from Halle Bailey, H.E.R., and Ciara, just to name a few. Though Boosie was impressed by some of what he saw on-screen, the “Mind of a Maniac” hitmaker is once again putting his foot down about the “narrative” being pushed on the public by the LGBTQ+ community.

“I HAD TO WALK OUT THIS ‘COLOR PURPLE‘ MOVIE (N TWO OTHER OLDER COUPLES WALKED OUT ALSO),’ he wrote on Twitter earlier this week. “BECAUSE I HAD MY LITTLE GIRLS WITH ME [AND] IT SEEMED LIKE A 🌈 LOVE STORY‼” Boosie added before confirming he wouldn’t let his daughter watch the new movie as a result. As backlash to his post comes pouring in, the multi-talent is now ranting about his right to his opinion.

“WHY IF SOMEONE DOESN’T AGREE WITH THE 🌈 NARRATIVE THAT’S BEING PUSHED, WHY DO Y’ALL SAY THAT THE PERSON WHO DOESN’T AGREE IS 🌈. THAT’S BULLYING~!! WE HAVE A RIGHT AS PARENTS TO SAY IT’S NOT COOL FOR A 7 N 9 YEAR OLD TO WATCH THIS,” Boosie expressed on Tuesday (January 2). “WE HAVE RIGHTS AS PARENTS TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AS MUCH AS WE CAN. I HAVE NO PROBLEM AT ALL WITH 🌈 PEOPLE. MY GRANDAD WAS A PREACHER (SOUTHERN BAPTIST) [AND] I’M JUST TRYNA RAISE MY KIDS WITH THE SAME BELIEFS [AND] RESPECT. IT’S JUST THIS WORLD WILL HAVE [YOU IN] A FIGHT TO DO SO!!”

Even with all the ranting he does on social media, Boosie Badazz still managed to find positivity and love in his heart this past holiday season. The Louisana native reconciled with his mom after feuding with her over a familial lawsuit in 2023 and spent tens of thousands of dollars on spoiling those closest to him for Christmas. Boosie BadAzz Walks Out Of “The Color Purple,” Claims It’s “Pushing The Narrative”

Boosie BadAzz says that he walked out of The Color Purple with his kids and that the film is “pushing the narrative.” Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Boosie remarked that he will not be letting his children watch the movie. The post warranted plenty of disagreement from his followers on social media.

“I HAD TO WALK OUT THIS COLOR PURPLE MOVIE (N TWO OTHER OLDER COUPLES WALKED OUT ALSO.) BECAUSE I HAD MY LITTLE GIRLS WITH ME N IT SEEMED LIKE A  LOVE STORY‼” Boosie wrote. “GOOD ACTING BUT WHOEVER WROTE THE SCRIPT IS PUSHING THE NARRATIVE HARD!! In response, one fan wrote to Boosie: “So y’all more upset that Mrs Celie and Shug Avery was exploring their sexuality but didn’t draw the line at her being molested at 14 by her stepfather and having his kids? This really shows me why yall still let that ‘Fresh’ uncle come to the family reunion but throw your Gay kids on the street!” Another remarked: “That’s why it’s rated PG-13. Perhaps you should had done a bit of research on the movie, before you decided to bring your daughter to watch it.” Check out Boosie’s post below.

Halle Bailey Twerks In “The Color Purple” Costume, Bonds With DDG During Sweet Snuggle Sesh

Halle Bailey’s feature film debut in The Little Mermaid was one of the biggest moments for Black women in the industry in recent memory. The Atlanta native did an incredible job channelling Ariel for her first big role, and even navigated her way through racist criticism with tact and grace throughout filming and her premiere press run. Following that, Bailey continues to flex her acting chops in the recently released movie, The Color Purple, which also stars H.E.R. and Ciara, among others.

The historical project is only just now hitting theatres, and as her fans check it out, the “Angel” singer is giving them a look at what went down behind the scenes on set. In the video below, we see Bailey in costume as Nettie, confidently throwing it back for Snapchat in her slave dress. “Lmaooo [what the hell] was I doing 😂😂😂,” she wrote over top of the clip. “Nettie cuttin’ up between filming.”

Elsewhere on her social media pages, we’ve been seeing plenty of Bailey with her beau, DDG, lately. Instead, Halle is happily showing off a heartfelt snuggle session with the YouTuber, during which he unknowingly had her in a headlock while peacefully snoring away. “I’m the world’s best cuddler,” she captioned that one.

Taraji P. Henson & The Color Purple Grab Massive Opening Day

As mentioned, Henson’s most recent project is a major role in The Color Purple. The Color Purple recorded the second-best Christmas Day opening of all time, bringing in $18M this past Monday. The only Christmas Day opening to do better than The Color Purple was 2009’s Sherlock Holmes, which brought in $24.6M. Furthermore, the film opened to a 88% critic’s rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Woke up to all the positive reactions to #TheColorPurple. What a blessing!!! Grateful to all who helped me make this film. Let’s continue to pack the theaters y’all,” director Blitz Bazawule wrote on X.

The film is the most recent reimagining of the seminal novel by Alice Walker. After Walker wrote the book in 1982, it was quickly turned into a film in 1985. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg and served as Winfrey’s breakout role. In 2005, an adaptation opened on Broadway and was revived in 2015. This year’s film is more of an adaptation of the musical than the original novel.

‘The Color Purple’ Broadway Actress Wants Royalties For Lyrics Used In New Film

Screen Shot 2023 12 29 at 7.34.05 AM

Everyone has been raving about the performances in the new musical The Color Purple musical based on the classic novel/film written by Alice Walker. The film was released on Christmas Day and opened at No.1 at the box office.

Now the actress. LaChanze who played Miss Celie on Broadway is demanding royalties for her contributions to the original songs used in the production. LaChanze initially won a Tony for playing Celie on Broadway, with Barrino joining a wealth of other actresses who took on the part on stage following LaChanze’s departure from the production, also including Cynthia Erivo and Adrianna Hicks. Barrino eventually reprised the role in director Blitz Bazawule’s big-screen adaptation of the musical, which also welcomed supporting actress Danielle Brooks back to The Color Purple family in the role of Sofia, which she first portrayed in the 2015 Broadway revival.

LaChanze wrote on Twitter:

I am getting a lot of DM’s and posts about why I’ve been left out of the press as the original Celie in the

@TheColorPurple (musical). I am thrilled for the movie’s success! Happy for all involved. However, I do want my royalty fee for the lyrics I added to “I’M HERE”.

Watch LaChanze’s performance below:
