Oprah’s Upcoming TV Special Will Address Impact of Weight Loss Drug

Oprah’s Upcoming TV Special Will Address Impact of Weight Loss Drug

Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey is ready to discuss one of the hottest topics in modern medicine—the weight loss drugs that are taking the industry by storm—in her upcoming ABC primetime special, “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution,” which will air in a couple of weeks.

TMZ reports that the special will address “the impact prescription weight loss drugs are having on society, including herself.”

It’s interesting timing, as this special is being released close to Oprah’s parting ways with Weight Watchers after a long-standing 10-year partnership. This arguably negatively impacted the weight loss company after the revelation that she uses weight loss drugs.

Let’s be real: many media outlets reported she lost an astounding 40 pounds last year alone, much attributed to prescribed medication, although she never said which one she uses.

Get this: Oprah once said the usual suspects in the weight loss drug world, like Ozempic and Mounjaro, were an “easy way out,” but I guess she had a change of heart, even though, again, we don’t know what she used.

Back to the TV special. TMZ reports it will “explore questions and concerns about weight loss medications’ intended uses, side effects and their impacts on people living with obesity and diabetes.” On its face, it feels informative and needed with these drugs being so popular right now.

In a statement, Oprah said, “It is a very personal topic for me and for the hundreds of millions of people impacted around the globe who have for years struggled with weight and obesity.”

She continued “This special will bring together medical experts, leaders in the space and people in the day-to-day struggle to talk about health equity and obesity with the intention to ultimately release the shame, judgment and stigma surrounding weight.”

Maybe she will review what she used to drop the pounds. Stay tuned …

Mo’Nique & Tyler Perry: Breaking Down Their Beef

Mo’Nique recently appeared on an episode of the podcast Club Shay Shay, for an explosive 3-hour-long conversation which saw the Precious actress airing out her grievances with numerous former collaborators. Following Katt Williams’s footsteps, Mo’Nique utilized the platform to take aim at the likes of D.L. Hughley, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, and reignite a years-old feud with Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry. Mo’Nique sparked her feud with Tyler Perry well over a decade ago, and despite occasional lulls, the conflict has never found a resolution. Here’s a look into what she said, and the origins of the age-old feud.

The Feud Began During The Precious Press Tour

After filming wrapped for the movie Precious, where Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry served as executive producers, Mo’Nique received a request to embark on a press tour to promote the film. The Original Queens of Comedy performer agreed to appear in promotional interviews and talk shows but refused to fly out to attend the Cannes Film Festival in France. Mo’Nique claims that producers urged her to promote the film at the prestigious event, though they explained that her appearance would be unpaid, as it was not part of her original contract for the film.

Mo’Nique refused to attend and later, issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter expressing her frustration with the producers. “I’m doing a talk show, I’m doing a comedy tour,” she said. “I have a husband and I have babies. I have a little bit of downtime and I’m going to take advantage of it. So I’m not going anywhere because I’m not obligated to go anywhere. I’ve done my part.”

Mo’Nique Claims She Was Blackballed From The Industry

After Mo’Nique frustrated Tyler Perry and the other producers of Precious, she claims her career suffered, and they labeled her with the scarlet letter of being difficult to work with. In the years following the inception of this feud, Mo’Nique says Precious director Lee Daniels has personally expressed regret regarding the way producers have treated her. However, both Oprah and Tyler Perry have refused to publicly apologize.

Mo’Nique claims to have an audio recording of Tyler Perry, taken in 2022, in which the House Of Payne creator agrees to mend fences and admit his wrongdoings publicly, though Perry seems to have never followed through on that promise. During her Club Shay Shay appearance, Mo’Nique explained that she sent the audio recording to controversial civil rights leader Al Sharpton, who agreed to step in and mediate a public discussion between them.

The Beef Is Currently In A State Of Limbo

After speaking with Al Sharpton, Mo’Nique says she received radio silence from the reverend for over 6 months. “The next time we saw Al Sharpton, he was on a podium talking about ‘We don’t need to fly commercial, cuz we can fly Tyler Perry’s private jet.’ …that’s why maybe I’m not hearing back from him,” she explained during her Club Shay Shay. At this time, Tyler Perry has never publicly addressed the feud, or taken responsibility for the state of Mo’Nique’s career. Clearly, Mo’Nique is not ready to move on from the beef just yet, as she prepares to take her grievances on the road during Katt Williams’ Dark Matter tour.

Mo’Nique “Apologizes” To Oprah, Tyler Perry, And More During Katt Williams Tour

Last week, Mo’Nique’s eagerly anticipated Club Shay Shay interview finally dropped, and as expected, the performer didn’t hold back. She went in on several of her celebrity peers, including Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, D.L. Hughley, and more. She even put the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry on blast, accusing them of having “blackballed” her from the industry.

According to her, she even allegedly has a recording of Perry admitting that he was responsible for starting a rumor that she was difficult to work with. As for Oprah, she says the mogul has “stolen” at least two film roles from her. Even before the interview was released, fans were drawing comparisons between Mo’Nique and Katt Williams, whose similarly explosive Club Shay Shay appearance went viral last month.

Connecticut Crowd Goes Wild For Mo’Nique

For this reason, they were overjoyed to learn that she’d be joining Williams on his Dark Matter tour alongside Torrei Hart and Mark Curry. At one point in her interview, Mo’Nique claimed that Williams was speaking facts during his, and even called him her “Fraternal Twin Brother” amid the tour announcement. So far, the tour has been a major success, and supporters are out in full force for Mo’Nique.

In one clip, she’s seen getting onstage in Connecticut on her first night of the tour, where she was met with a thunderous round of applause. Almost the entire audience stood to show love to Mo’Nique, leaving her in awe. During another set, she issued a pseudo-apology to those she called out, including Oprah, Tyler Perry, Stephen A. Smith, and Greg Mathis. “I wanna apologize for telling y’all to suck my d*ck,” she said. “Because I forgot to tell y’all to lick the nuts that came with it.”

Taraji P. Henson Defends Oprah Amid “The Color Purple” Backlash

Throughout her press run for The Color Purple, Taraji P. Henson has managed to get fans talking with her comments on the pay disparity Black women face in the entertainment industry. Amid the chatter, producer Oprah Winfrey has been met with a great deal of criticism, with countless fans arguing that she’s to blame for the cast being compensated unfairly. According to Henson, however, the controversy has started to overshadow the film, which she notes is all about “sisterhood.”

“I hope they can focus back onto this film,” she told Today.com of the rumors. “Because right now, to me, it feels like what I said is now becoming louder than this beautiful film… And that’s not fair to me, or anybody in the film,” she explained, “because the film deals with women who are oppressed — who live in an oppressed system. Men and women. And all the characters in that film except for the white people. So that movie is about healing. That movie is about sisterhood.

Henson also came to Oprah’s defense during the interview, noting how she called her up personally to ensure that her needs were met on set. “I see what’s going on, but there’s nothing spin there,” she said of beef rumors. “You saw the woman doing the electric slide in the dust with us. She was right there in the field doing the electric slide, she held our hands the entire production. She showed up, she was there — there are producers that don’t show up on set.”

“You know, she called me, she called me personally,” she added. “Not my team, not my people — me, and asked me, ‘Taraji, if there’s anything you need, you let me know.’ And I said it with a shaking voice, I was like, ‘Well, yeah,’ — since she asked, and I told her and she fixed everything the next day.” What do you think of Taraji P. Henson sharing that she doesn’t want rumors or controversy overshadowing The Color Purple? Do you agree with her? What about her coming to Oprah’s defense? Oprah Winfrey Says There’s No Beef With Taraji P. Henson

Oprah Winfrey shot down the “disturbing” rumors she’s heard about feuding with Taraji P. Henson over The Color Purple. Speaking with Gayle King for CBS Mornings at the Golden Globes, last week, Winfrey addressed Henson’s recent complaints about cast members being told to drive their own rental cars to set.

“It’s so disturbing to me,” Winfrey said of the rumors. “Why is my name even in this conversation? Why is my name in this conversation? ‘Cause I have just been the champion for everybody.” She added: “I heard that Taraji was upset because she had been asked to (use) a rental car. I personally called Toby Emmerich, who was at the time the head of Warner Bros., and he said, ‘Well that means we have to do cars for everybody.’ And I said, ‘Then we do cars for everybody. And if it’s necessary, I will pay for the cars myself.’ He goes, ‘Well, we don’t want you to do that.’”

Henson previously denied having an issue with Winfrey as well in a post on Instagram. “Ms. OPRAH has been nothing less than a steady and solid beacon of light to ALL OF THE CAST of The Color Purple!!!” she said. “She has provided ENCOURAGEMENT, GUIDANCE and UNWAVERING SUPPORT to us all. She told me personally to reach out to her for ANYTHING I needed, and I did!”

Oprah Will Interview Taraji P. Henson Amid Complaints About “The Color Purple”

The Color Purple remake is finally out, and two stars heavily involved in its making are coming together for a chat. Moreover, Oprah Winfrey recently announced that she will interview Taraji P. Henson tonight (Saturday, January 6) on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) at 10PM (time zone unclear). However, if you miss the live airing, it will be available on MAX afterwards. “Cookie Lyons. Katherine Johnson. Yvette. And now Shug Avery. Those are the many characters @tarajiphenson has brought to life in ways only she could,” she captioned a picture of her with the actress. “Join us tonight as we sit down to discuss her career and the sisterhood she formed with @thecolorpurple cast! #OWNSpotlight with Taraji P. Henson airs tonight at 10 PM on @owntv and available on @streamonmax after [purple heart emoji].”

Furthermore, this is interesting considering a recent complaint Taraji P. Henson had about this movie’s production. “They gave us rental cars, and I was like, ‘I can’t drive myself to set in Atlanta,’” she told The New York Times in a recent interview. “This is insurance liability, it’s dangerous. Now they robbing people. What do I look like, taking myself to work by myself in a rental car?

Oprah Announces Interview With Taraji P. Henson Tonight

“So I was like, ‘Can I get a driver or security to take me?’” Taraji P. Henson continued. “I’m not asking for the moon. They’re like, ‘Well, if we do it for you, we got to do it for everybody.’ Well, do it for everybody! It’s stuff like that, stuff I shouldn’t have to fight for. I was on the set of Empire fighting for trailers that wasn’t infested with bugs.

“[The fight] wears on your soul because you fight so hard to establish a name for yourself and be respected in this town to no avail,” she concluded. “With Black films, they just don’t want to take us overseas and I don’t understand that. Black translates all over the world, so why wouldn’t the movies? I have a following in China of all places. Y’all not going to capitalize on that? Don’t everybody want to make money here? I’m not the person that pulls the race card every time, but what else is it, then? Tell me. I’d rather it not be race, please give me something else.” For more news and the latest updates on Taraji P. Henson and Oprah Winfrey, check back in with HNHH.

Oprah Winfrey Reveals Who The Studio Execs Wanted To Cast In “The Color Purple” As New Trailer Drops

Oprah Winfrey has said that when she first approached studios with a pitch to remake The Color Purple, the studio heads wanted to cast someone like Beyonce or Rihanna in the film. “To be completely honest about it, if you were doing this film for $30 or $40 million, the interest in the cast would be very different. Once the film moved to $90 to $100 million, then everybody wants us to bring Beyoncé. Can you get Beyoncé or can you get Rihanna?’ So we’re sitting in a room saying, ‘Listen, we love Beyoncé. We love Rihanna, but there are other actors who can do this job.’ I do remember conversations about, ‘Y’all, Beyoncé is going to be busy this year.’ It wasn’t even a negotiation, because you’re not getting Beyoncé,” Winfrey told The Hollywood Reporter.

Instead, Winfrey was able to assemble an all-star ensemble cast. The film stars Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, H.E.R., and Halle Bailey just to name a few. The film is being helmed by Blitz the Ambassador, the Ghanian musician and director. He has previously released 2018’s Death of Kojo and the Lion King visual companion Black is King. The screenplay comes from playwright Marcus Gardley.

The Color Purple Gets A New Trailer

Meanwhile, this week saw a new trailer drop for The Color Purple. Due out on Christmas Day, the film is the most recent reimagining of the seminal novel by Alice Walker. After Walker wrote the book in 1982, it was quickly turned into a film in 1985. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg and served as Winfrey’s breakout role. In 2005, an adaptation opened on Broadway and was revived in 2015. This year’s film is more of an adaptation of the musical than the original novel.

The story follows Cellie (Fantasia) and her journey as a Black woman through the early 20th Century. The story covers a lot of heavy topics, such as racism and incest. The story’s heart is the relationship between Cellie and her sister Nettie (Ciara) and has long endured as one of the great American stories of the late 20th Century. Will you be watching The Color Purple when it comes out? Let us know in the comments below.
