TDE Vibes, Doechii Joins Forces With SZA on “Persuasive” Remix

DOECHII SZA full body

Doechii and multi-platinum Grammy winner SZA join forces on the new remix of “Persuasive” released via Top Dawg Entertainment/Capitol Records.

Today marks the first collaboration of TDE’s female powerhouses with all the vibes on “Persuasive” remix. Doechii flexes her signature half-rap, half-singing flow.

“Feel like I feel like I needed rest, feel it’s the season I should let go,” the 23-year-old spits over a Kal Banx production. The addition of SZA to “Persuasive,” which is an ode to the perfect high, makes the song even more addicting.

I created “Persuasive” to uplift people and bring communities together, so having SZA jump on the song was a perfect fit because I’ve always connected with others over her music,” says Doechii. “Knowing that SZA is with TDE was what originally got me most excited about being on this label, so now that we have a song together it’s a full-circle moment. She really ATE! This collaboration is everything I always imagined it to be.”

The Tampa breakout star had an impressive 2021 gaining momentum with a new audience from her viral TikTok song “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” and a dope feature on “Wat U Sed” from Isaiah Rashad’s The House Is Burning LP.

SZA Not-So-Subtly Confirms She And Doja Cat Will Reunite On ‘Shirt’

Over a year ago now, SZA took to TikTok to tease a new song, which fans have collectively given the unofficial title of “Shirt.” The unreleased tune has since sometimes worked its way into SZA’s setlists, and she busted it out at London’s Wireless Festival over the weekend. Furthermore, she gave some more info about what the official release of the song will look like.

While introducing the track on stage, she asked her audience, “Do y’all want to know who’s on this song?” She continued, “The hint is that the we already have a song together, her name starts with a ‘D,’ and it rhymes with ‘Soja.’”

Those not-so-subtle clues clearly point to Doja Cat, who meets all of the qualifications, as she and SZA previously linked up on Doja’s 2021 single “Kiss Me More.”

Back when the song was first making the TikTok rounds, SZA told CBS This Morning, “‘Shirt’ is super easy to remember and now every time I work on it in the studio, I reference it as ‘Shirt.’ Some people call it ‘Blood Stain,’ which is very graphic. Now this song, which I wasn’t even 100-percent sure of the placement on my album, has centered itself on my album. Now we shot a video for it.”

Giveon Recalls Singing For SZA During A Job Interview At Bubba Gump Shrimp

Before Giveon was an R&B superstar, he was a server at a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant in Long Beach, California. When he landed the job, he didn’t know how far his passion for singing would take him. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he recalled a moment from eight years ago, in which he sang for a then-up-and-coming SZA.

While on his way to the third interview for the server job, he saw SZA inside the restaurant.

“I don’t know why Bubba Gump requires three interviews for some reason,” Giveon said. “I’m walking into the third interview and I just see SZA walking and I ambush her like, ‘Hi.’ I just was rambling out the words. I don’t even remember everything I said, but then I said too much. But she was extremely nice.”

At the time of the encounter, SZA had just signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, and had just released her major-label debut EP, Z. While Giveon doesn’t remember exactly what went down during the encounter, he did recall singing a few bars for the “Good Days” singer.

“Yes, I sang for her, OK?! I was gon’ leave that part out,” Giveon continued, following prying from Fallon. “I was a very big fan. Still am. I was singing for her and she was just like, ‘Who is this guy singing?!’ […] She came to a show years later and I told her and she was like, ‘Awww, I don’t remember.’ So I went on Instagram and unsent the DM that I sent her. […] I went to the DM and it said 2014. ‘Hi, my name is Giveon, I was the kid at Long Beach Bubba Gump. Do you remember me?’ I just took it off. If she brings it up, I don’t know what she’s talking about.”

Deante Hitchcock Proves That He Also Despises His Ex In A Freestyle Over SZA’s ‘I Hate U’

One of the more popular R&B records from 2021 came from SZA with “I Hate U.” The song stood as her third release in a little over a year, a spike in activity for the singer who was quieter than expected after her 2017 debut Ctrl. In addition to the song breaking records on Apple Music, it’s also been remixed by a few artists, two of those being 6lack and Phabo. There’s a new entry to that list and it comes from Atlanta rapper Deante Hitchcock who offers his take on the track for the latest entry in his New Atlanta Tuesdays freestyle series.

The Atlanta native released the freestyle with an accompanying video that sees him walk up to his former lover’s home with a boombox in hand. As the song’s instrumental begins, Hitchcock unloads a freestyle that details his struggle of watching his ex move on to someone new. In the end, he leaves her with a very salty and spiteful message: “You hate me but I still love you / But if anyone asks I hate you too b*tch / I hate you too b*tch / Yes it’s true, yes it’s true, yeah it’s true b*tch.”

Hitchcock’s new freestyle arrives after he released “Alone,” “Callin‘” with Big KRIT and Westside Boogie, and “All My Children” as singles off his upcoming album, one that would be his first full-length effort since 2020’s Better.

You can watch Deante Hitchcock’s freestyle over “I Hate U” in the video above.
