Iggy Azalea Set The Record Straight About Her Viral Sway Freestyle While Admitting That It Was Indeed ‘Trash’

Iggy Azalea, who recently reneged on her retirement plans, has become one of rap’s more active Twitter personalities, calling out haters for body-shaming her one day and shooting down false rumors the next. However, she doesn’t take herself so seriously that she can’t have a laugh at some of her legitimate stumbles — all she asks for is a little accuracy in the memes taking aim at them.

Earlier this week, a hip-hop fan page resurfaced a meme about Iggy’s infamous 2013 Sway In The Morning freestyle, which still gets her ridiculed online from time to time. At the time, Iggy was under fire for accusations of cultural appropriation — remember when that was a thing? — due to her Southern American rap accent clashing with her Australian origins, but she also made some missteps when she went to perform her rhymes in live venues. The result was a plethora of memes making fun of her being “unable” to rap, including the video posted on Twitter.

“Never forget when John from Tennessee violated Iggy Azalea’s freestyle,” read the caption, as the video inserts a caller’s blunt review: “That sh*t was trash!” yells “John from Tennessee.” “Get the f*ck off the airwaves!” However, Iggy saw the tweet and had some thoughts of her own. While she admitted that the lackluster freestyle was indeed “trash,” she reminded the original poster (and anyone following) that the video itself is edited, noting, “John from Tennessee has never called me.” So, where did the call come from? “The call was to Lil Debbie if anyone’s curious about who John called or where this originated,” she informed. So, the case appears to be “right sentiment, wrong white girl.”

Lil Debbie herself chimed in, apparently unhappy that Iggy added that tidbit to reiterate the caller’s point: “Yea he called in for me but you’re right he could’ve called in for that verse you spit,” she sniped. For what it’s worth, it doesn’t seem like either of them is dwelling on the call; while Iggy said it doesn’t bother her because “it never happened,” both women have continued with their careers and seem to be doing alright with the fanbases that they have cultivated, even if their viral hit days appear to be (mostly) behind them.

It Took Nearly A Decade, But Kanye West Finally Admitted That Sway Actually ‘Had The Answer’

In 2013, Kanye West infamously launched a longstanding meme during an interview with Shade 45 radio host Sway Calloway when he exploded on the host after being questioned about his fashion ambitions. “You don’t have the answers!” he roared when Sway suggested that he produce his Yeezy clothing line independently. But today, it appears he’s changed his tune after dealing with protracted disputes with apparel manufacturing partners Adidas and Gap for the better part of the summer — and really, almost since the start of those partnerships.

In a new interview with ABC News excerpted on Good Morning America, Kanye admits, “You know what? I will go ahead and say Sway had the answer,” grinning sheepishly. “I know people on Twitter are gonna be like, ‘No!’”

Kanye declared his plans to go it alone after sending notice of intent to cut his deal with Gap short earlier this month. The deal, which was to run through to 2030, became unsatisfactory to him when he alleges the company did not follow through on its end, which he says included plans to build brick-and-mortar Yeezy stores and make his designs available in its own stores by 2021. Over the past month, he’s expressed his dissatisfaction with both Gap and Adidas in a series of needling posts on Instagram, including sharing a draft from his legal team summarizing the details of his licensing deals with both companies.

As Kanye (and Sway) are likely sure to learn soon, producing at the scale that Kanye foresees for himself isn’t quite as easy without a global partnership; perhaps, in a few years, a more humble Ye will also admit that he didn’t really have the answers either.

CyHi Tha Prynce Takes Shots At Joe Budden In New Freestyle, Budden Responds

CyHiThePrinceChallengesJoeBuddento$KRapBattle

CyHi Tha Prynce is known for being one of the best writers and freestylers in the game, having written for Kanye, had one of the best verses on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and having ghostwritten “Sicko Mode” for Travis Scott and Drake. In a new freestyle for Sway’s Universe, CyHi took shots at Joe Budden.

“Joe Budden, why you got so much hate in your heart / They gon let you f*ck around make hating an art,” CyHi rapped.

In a lighthearted response, Budden took to Twitter to respond to CyHi, asking why he was being name-dropped while on vacation.

“Why is Cyhi doing that to my name while I’m on vacation? That’s not nice,” Budden tweeted.

In another tweet, Budden took aim at the actual bar, calling it a “nasty ass bar.”

“& w that nasty ass bar too ….. you lot so lucky,” Budden added.

The freestyle was later taken down, not because of lyrical content but because of a “technical issue.” Sway even confirmed it on his Twitter.

“Peace. To those asking. I decided to take down the @CyhiOfficial Freestyle down because of tech issues that interferes with his performance. It’s rare when it happens & I continue to learn from it when it does. He’s a DOPE MC! We aim to preserve the integrity @SwaysUniverse,” Sway tweeted.

CyHi later responded to Budden’s tweet, saying that he’s lucky that they messed up his vocals, before calling out Joe Budden for one day praising someone and turning their back on the the next day.

“You’re lucky they fucked my vocals up lol up but you are a hater!!! Cause One day you champion a nigga then you turn around and say some weird shit. So you use my name for views so I just returned the favor!!” CyHi tweeted.

We’re sure to hear about this on the next podcast episode.
