Rick Ross Fires Back At Dee-1 Over Recent Diss

Rick Ross responded to Dee-1’s recent diss aimed at him, Meek Mill, and Jim Jones, on his Instagram Story, on Saturday. Dee-1 had criticized the lyrical content of the three rappers’ songs during an appearance on Sway in the Morning on Tuesday. Ross accused him of wanting to “go viral.”

“Lil’ man, whoever you is, until you feed the kids where you’re from for 20 years straight, don’t question Rozay,” he began, as noted by HipHopDX. “Wait until you buy 10,000 bikes. […] Don’t question Bawse. You heard me, lil’ man? Get that basket off your head, so you could think clear, lil’ man. […] Since you wanna go viral, I’m gonna show you how to go viral, lil’ man.”

Lookin’ vegan, knowin’ you eatin’ more goddamn biggly-wiggly bacon than any other n***a out here. Shut up.”

As for Dee-1’s full comments, he said on the show: “Jim Jones, you could do better, brother. I love you too much to not be honest with you. Rick Ross, you could do better, brother. Meek Mill, you could do better, brother! I love you too much not to be honest with you. Oh, you the face of prison reform? Or are you sitting here on your new song with Ross talking about getting somebody murked, and shot at the red light? Which one is it, bro?” Meek Mill also fired back at Dee-1 in an Instagram post of his own. He wrote: “I was rappin’ this way when I became the face of reform…that’s how I got there. Y’all forgot that fast.” The feud comes as Rick Ross and Meek Mill prepare for the release of their upcoming project Too Good To Be True. The album is scheduled for release on November 10, 2023. After the freestyle, he spoke more about the topic with Sway, revealing that he’s since made amends with those he mentioned. “I’ve actually spoken to all of ’em, man,” he said. “I saw Drake at Virgil’s funeral and had some words with him. Yeah, he was [receptive to it]. He was like, ‘Man, honestly, I didn’t even understand it.’ And when I recall and think back, it was like, I was just gassed up being young. You know, Kanye, JAY-Z – they bickering so I wanna jump in. It was unnecessary. I spoke to him.”

The one person that Mensa says he hasn’t been able to reach out to is DJ Akdemiks. He says that he wants to go on his show, Off the Record, soon to apologize to him in person.

Vic Mensa On His Apology To Drake

“Akademiks is one person that I have not spoken to,” Mensa said. “But I’m at the space right now where I don’t got room in my spirit for beef, no problems with nobody. I’m beyond that. So, I’ma sit down with Akademiks. I’ll go on his show and speak to him. Because me and Akademiks’ [issues], it was really more ideological too.”

Chuck D Says 2Pac Once Beat Up A Thief To Prove His Loyalty

Chuck D says that 2Pac once beat up a man who tried to steal equipment backstage at a show. The legendary Public Enemy rapper recalled the moment of loyalty during a recent interview with Sway In The Morning. He says that the incident went down while they were on tour in Oklahoma City.

“‘Pac — little brother. Brought him on tour along with, rest in peace, Shock G,” Chuck D began, as noted by HipHopDX. “‘Pac is carrying bags, hoping he can get a verse on the stage as a rookie. [And] Queen Latifah introduces me to her rookies. She says, ‘Chuck, meet Young Treacherous.’ And we’re in Lafayette, Louisiana, I’m lookin’ at both of them, and I’m like, ‘okay.’ It’s 1990. These two cats — Treach, and ‘Pac, okay? … I felt so good for them.”

He continued: “Quick story about ‘Pac: we were in Oklahoma City one time, and somebody went and stole stuff out of the backstage. I think they stole some equipment — a hat, whatever — and they found the dude. And they said, ‘Is this the dude?’ And ‘Pac said, somebody told him that was the dude. And ‘Pac went upside this dude’s head. I said, ‘Yo, ‘Pac, it’s not that deep man. But ‘Pac wanted to prove, ‘Listen, I’m ridin’ for y’all!’ Well, ‘Pac, we don’t want you to get arrested in OKC, man, it’s alright.”

The story comes after the premiere of FX’s Dear Mama docu-series. The first two episodes of the show dropped on Friday, April 21. It focuses on 2Pac’s relationship with his mother, Afeni Shakur, who was a political activist and member of the Black Panther Party. She also founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation and also served as the CEO of Amaru Entertainment, Inc. in the wake of her son’s death. Episodes of Dear Mama are available to stream on Hulu.

DJ Drama Denies Alleged Feud With DJ Khaled & Funk Flex

DJ Drama says that he doesn’t have a feud with DJ Khaled or Funk Flex as has been rumored. Drama discussed the relationship between the three during an interview on Sway in the Morning. Additionally, Drama says he wouldn’t even say there’s a rivalry between the producers.

“Shoutout to Khaled. Shoutout to Flex,” Drama told Sway on the show. “One thing about all of us is, when we put these projects together and we come with these collaborative projects — like this shit ain’t easy for nobody. It’s not a walk in the park, it’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of dedication. It is not an easy thing to do. So, for people listening who questions any of us. It takes a lot. It’s an amazing skill to be in this position. To be able to put albums out and consistently. The three of us that you mentioned we have multiple albums under our belts. Not even like this its one. This is my sixth album outside of the 250 mixtapes that I have done.”

From there, Sway explained that he views hip-hop as a “competitive sport.” He asked Drama, “Now talk about the rivalry. Is there a rivalry between you and Khaled? You and Flex?” Drama responded, “Nah, there’s no rivalry. I mean, first off Flex is someone I grew up inspired by — looking up to — somewhat of the blueprint in so many aspects. He was on radio. He was on television. You couldn’t open up a magazine without seeing an endorsement without him. He was putting out albums.”

He continued: “Now, that Flex is a peer and a friend of mine, that’s one of those things that if I were to tell the young 13, 14-year-old kid who was aspiring to be a DJ that one day I’d be standing side-by-side with Flex — I wouldn’t believe it.” Check out Drama’s appearance on Sway in the Morning below.

Madlib Confirms That His And Mac Miller’s Collab Album ‘Maclib’ Is Being Finished And Released With The Estate’s Approval

For a time, it appeared that we’d gotten all the Mac Miller music we were ever going to after the rapper died in 2018. However, there was one project left that many fans still held out hope for: Maclib, a collaborative album with legendary Los Angeles producer Madlib, who has previously released well-received joint albums with the likes of J Dilla, Freddie Gibbs, and Talib Kweli.

Unfortunately, the likelihood of Maclib‘s release has been in doubt ever since shortly after producer Thelonious Martin revealed its existence. Although Madlib has occasionally played bits and pieces of the project in his live sets, he also noted that only about an EP’s worth of material was recorded and it wasn’t likely to see release.

However, Madlib restored hope this week when he and Kweli appeared on Sway In The Morning to talk about their latest album Liberation 2. In an aside during the interview, Madlib began listing some of the projects he has in the works including albums with Planet Asia and Erykah Badu. But it was the mention of Mac Miller that perked up Sway’s ears.

“Is that the same project that was mentioned years ago after he passed that was never released?” he asked. “Yessir,” Madlib confirmed. Sway, like the rest of us, couldn’t contain his excitement: “We ’bout to some new Mac Miller!” he exclaimed. Let’s all hope it’s sooner rather than later.

You can watch Madlib’s full interview with Talib Kweli and Sway above.
