Ice Spice has renewed her beef with Latto during a Spaces AMA this week. while answering fan questions, Spice went off about Latto playing the music video for “Pretty Girl” in the background of a recent video. “Why am I in the back of your weak a– snippet? I thought it was fake, I thought it had to be AI but no. Like be bold, but if you’re going to talk about me, then talk about me. Why am I in the back of your weak a– snippet?” Spice off to the collection of shocked listeners.

This latest barrage from the Bronx rapper comes after she dropped “Think U The Shit (Fart)” in which she took direct shots at Latto. It’s still unclear what caused the beef to initially kick off. Meanwhile, beefing isn’t the only thing that Spice has been up to. Starry, the Pepsico-owned soda brand, recently dropped a teaser for their upcoming Super Bowl ad featuring Ice Spice. The 15-second clip is packed full of references, “Stop, you play too much,” Spice tells her off-camera date playfully, calling back to her signature lead-in of “Stop playing with them, RIOT”. Elsewhere, the aforementioned unseen date convinces Spice to him her iconic “grahhh”. However, most intriguingly of all, the teaser ends with Spice implying that she has just spotted her ex walk into the bar where she’s located.

The 24-year-old rapper has been fairly private about her dating life. She did confirm to the LA Times in October 2023 that she was in a relationship. However, it’s most likely that the full ad will see Spice’s ex being either a famous person or another soda that she ditched in favor of Starry. It’s unlikely that the tea is really going to be spilled about her dating life. Despite this, the full ad will drop on Super Bowl Sunday (February 11).

Despite having teased the collaboration for four years, Metro revealed that the much-anticipated project would not be seeing the light of day. In an announcement on Wednesday (January 24), Metro Boomin shared with fans that the collab project is not coming out. The Lil Durk collab project, which had been in the works for an extended period, was officially scrapped. Responding to a fan’s inquiry about the unreleased project, Metro disclosed that although the record was nearly complete. And the music was exceptional, a series of unfortunate leaks had derailed the entire venture.

“Why that tape with you and Durk never dropped? The leaks were too fire,” asked the fan. In response, Metro Boomin explained, “We had it bout ready and it was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 but the leaks ruined it.” The collaborative album, initially teased on Instagram in February 2020. Itseemingly titled No Auto, but it faced setbacks due to multiple songs being leaked. This included anticipated tracks like the Lil Baby collaboration “Project Baby,” “High Demand,” and “I Am No Auto,” being prematurely leaked.

Another day, another chapter in the Nicki Minaj and Latto beef saga, one that keeps on giving despite both femcee’s efforts to reach across the aisle to other female artists. Moreover, this time around, it stems from the latter’s bar about “auntie hatin’, she burnt” on a new snippet of an upcoming collab with Anycia. Of course, this is just fan speculation, as there’s no shortage of alleged shots between these two and this is just as vague as the last couple of examples die-hards theorized. Still, it inspired as much debate as ever on social media, and continues the sad trend of always putting female rappers in a battlefield in ways that we don’t often do with male MCs.

Regardless, what’s done is done, and this feud was actually pretty direct at one point, originating over discrepancies in categorizations for award nominations that involved personal criticism from one to the other. Playboi Carti’s I AM MUSIC (or just Music? Who knows?) is finally upon us, and he is well-aware of what that anticipation means. Moreover, he recently shared a short instrumental snippet on Instagram along with a graphic that reads “IM NOT PLAYING.” As such, the Atlanta rage pioneer is probably very aware that he has been playing for the better part of three years now when it comes to his next album. In addition to reposting Tyler, The Creator DMs, old Young Thug tweets, and Pharrell cosigns, this is adding to some more prolific activity from him that fans are very happy to see. After all, Carti is usually radio-silent, and a lot of what we hear or see of him is through so many other means that aren’t himself.

Furthermore, let’s talk about this snippet, which might be part of this January drop for Playboi Carti. It’s nothing too special, to be honest: heavy and simple bass, a creepy and slightly Halloween-ish synth melody, a compressed snare, and rattling hi-hats. If anything, it’s like a fusion of the tempo and drum pattern that dominated Die Lit with the goth aesthetics of Whole Lotta Red. As such, we can’t really take a guess at what previous style this new release will imitate, but we hope that it’s none of the above and that Carti comes through with something new.

Playboi Carti Is “Not Playing” With This New Snippet: Listen

In addition to this new hype for I AM MUSIC, this follows previous promises and timeline changes in his career. For example, when Playboi Carti and the rest of Opium had to reschedule their European tour dates, he said that his album was coming soon, which we now have at least some confirmation of thanks to DJ Akademiks. It’s actually funny that there are a lot of similarities between this and WLR: a winter/Christmastime drop, DJ Akademiks with the inside scoop, and it doesn’t look like his aesthetics have changed all that much since then. We’d guess that the newest thing about this new release is that the “FE!N” MC will use more of the deep and warbly delivery he debuted on that song.

Meanwhile, as fans, we all have to be ready for this whole thing to fall apart at any second– and to be cognizant of his alleged abhorrent behavior. After all, with so many teases, apparent delays, and unfulfilled promises, fans are too hardened to let their guard down.
