Issa Rae Wants To Unite Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B & Nicki Minaj’s Fan Bases With A Clever On-Screen Cameo

Could the Hotties, Bardi Gang, and the Barbz be putting an end to their years-long online feud? Barbie supporting player Issa Rae has her fingers crossed that they are. Rae’s latest venture, Rap Sh!t, allows her to, among other things, express her love for music. Although Season 2 of the series has already wrapped, Rae has ideas for future episodes.

On Monday, November 6, during an interview with ET‘s Denny Directo, Rae revealed that there are a few guest cameos on the season three wishlist. “There’s a list. I mean, we want Meg[an The Stallion],” she said. “We want Cardi [B]. Nicki [Minaj] would be a nice little tie-around.”

As the idea began to marinate, she added, “If we could unite them… Maybe in season three, we can unite the fan bases.”

In the past, Rae has thrown a tremendous amount of support behind Megan and Nicki. The idea of rap’s leading ladies squashing their rumored feud with an epic appearance on the scripted show would certainly shake up the culture in the best way.

Megan Thee Stallion did not pull any punches on her first single of the year, “Cobra.” It is still at the top of the YouTube music trending list, with nearly 4.5 million views on the platform. She shed her past and let out everything that has been weighing on her mentally and emotionally. On top of that, the beat, which is Megan’s first-ever producing credit, is fantastic. The swirling synths and guitar samples added to the ambiance of the track. Furthermore, the visuals, while predictable, were still so well put together and highlighted the message of the song.

Needless to say, this was a far cry from her last big single, “Bongos,” with Cardi B. It went along with a similar formula that “WAP” did. Raunchy, unapologetic, and it takes itself maybe a little too seriously. One of the many people who maligned that track was Joe Budden. However, he had to eat his words after hearing “Cobra.”

AllHipHop found a clip on Twitter (X) from Joe Budden’s podcast. In the short clip, the host was stunned after listening to the single. To his credit, he did stand up and congratulate Megan for the work she put into it. He even went as far as to say that if people do not like they are just hating to hate. “Meg, yo! I ain’t gon’ lie to you. You absolutely went crazy on this.” He continues, “A n**** hate on this, he hatin’. If you don’t like this you hatin’.”

After dropping the music video at 12 am ET on Nov. 3, “Cobra,” directed by Douglas Bernardt, notched up an impressive 2.15 million views in just one day. This achievement pushed her ahead of Doja Cat’s “Demons,” which had previously held the record with 2.01 million views.

In addition to this YouTube record, “Cobra” also saw a surge in streaming success, amassing over 1.04 million streams on Spotify within the same 24-hour period. Notably, this release marked a significant moment for Megan Thee Stallion as it was her first independent drop under Hot Girl Productions, her independent music and entertainment venture.

Megan Thee Stallion emerges from the depths of a venomous snake in her new drop, “Cobra.” In a glossy video directed by Douglas Bernardt, guitar riffs, and 808s adorn the rapper’s story about her time in the light recently and the hit her mental health has taken since. 

This is her first self-funded release after her long-winded battle with her former label, 1501 Entertainment. She hit the ground running with Hot Girl Production’s first single, serving us scales, 

Baring herself in the single, Megan addresses what’s been happening recently, and it’s a lot. She opens up about her depression, admitting that she has dealt with suicidal thoughts and used drinking as a coping mechanism. Visuals of snakes and characters with phones out and stone faces symbolize the eyes on her while she is alone and at her lowest. 

She sang: “Every night I cried, I almost died / And nobody close tried to stop me / Long as  / everybody gettin’ paid, right? / Everything’ll be okay, right? / I’m winnin’, so nobody trippin’ / Bet if I ever fall off, everybody go missin’”. 

Fans also get an inside note on what may have happened between her and rapper ​​Pardison Fontaine. 

The star rapped: ‘Pulled up, caught him cheatin’, gettin’ his d*ck sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’’. The line points the finger at the rapper whom she broke off a three-year relationship with earlier this year.

This isn’t the first time that the Houston Hottie has spoken on mental health and her challenges. On her last album, Traumauzine, fans got closer to the rapper on tracks like “Anxiety,” noting the grief surrounding her and her late mother’s relationship.

In September of last year, she launched her mental health hub, ‘Bad Bitches Have Bad Days Too.’ The platform lists resources for free treatment, crisis hotlines, and organizations that specifically assist the Black community, including therapy for Black women and men. 

Both a mental health advocate and a rapper just keeping it real, Megan Thee Stallion has the world anticipating her next singles ‘hatching’ soon.

The Internet went ablaze on Friday morning (November 3) due to Megan Thee Stallion’s solo comeback single, “Cobra.” Moreover, fans are pointing to a particular set of lines on the track that suggest that her former partner Pardison Fontaine cheated on her. “Pulled up, caught him cheatin’, gettin’ his d**k sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’,” the Houston MC raps on the song. “Lord, give me a break, I don’t know how much more of this s**t I can take.” However, despite a lot of fan speculation and gossip running around this, Fontaine’s new boo is here to defend him for better or worse.

Moreover, Jada Kingdom recently posted a bouquet of flowers that Pardison Fontaine apparently got for her, amid all this cheating drama. As such, not only does it show that they’re still going strong, but it also implies that he has her full support on this matter. As of writing this article, it doesn’t look like Megan Thee Stallion has elaborated further on this interpretation of these bars, whether it’s only as related to Pardi or roping Jada Kingdom into this. Either way, having another person integrated into this equation will certainly make things much spicier.

As much as fans want to defend, protect, and advocate for their favorites, especially someone who’s gone through as much as Meg, it’s never healthy or useful to harass individuals for situations like these. This is a relationship issue, not a shooting or a lawsuit for unfair contracts, and their personal lives are the only thing at stake here.

Meanwhile, hopefully that hate train dies down and listeners can instead focus on the emotional and artistic growth that Tina Snow clearly wants to communicate with her music. With this new phase in her career, a lot of that process will consist of unpacking her past and crafting a new way to move in the future. We wish that Megan Thee Stallion can heal in this way in her personal life and not worry about what her fans are saying about it. Megan Thee Stallion begins her “Cobra” video by saying, “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past over and over again” — the same message she used to tease the song on socials last week — and proceeding to crawl out from inside of a cobra. Objectively, the best part of an artist dropping new music is the race to subjectively decode what it all means, and in this case, the shedding of the cobra skin could very well symbolize Hot Girl Meg’s recently becoming an independent artist.

In October, Billboard reported that Megan Thee Stallion and her now-former record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, “mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences,” which had lasted for over three years, and would “amicably part ways.” Days prior to the news publicly breaking, Meg hinted at it during an Instagram Live.

“Hotties — the real Hotties, not the Notties, kinda them, too — this part of my album is definitely very much funded by Megan Thee Stallion,” she said, in part. “Y’all know what’s the tea. But I have no label right now. And we’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So, the budget is coming from me. Motherf*cking Hot Girl Productions! The next sh*t y’all about to see about to be all straight from Megan Thee Stallion’s brain and Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We in my pockets, Hotties!”

As promised, “Cobra” was released under Hot Girl Productions LLC.
