Lil Yachty And J Cole Have ‘The Secret Recipe’ Down To A Rap Science On Their New Collab

Lil Yachty isn’t slowing down. Tonight (September 28), the multifaceted rapper and singer, who dropped his psychedelic rock-influenced album Let’s Start Here back in January, has shared a new single, “The Secret Recipe.”

On “The Secret Recipe,” Yachty reminds us of his rap prowess, which is what brought him to instant fame in the mid-2010s.

Over a jazzy, instrument-driven beat, Yachty treats us to clever wordplay, channeling a newfound confidence as he freestyles effortlessly.

“I don’t smoke weed, already blunt, all of my cars, I had to hunt / My doggy young as hell but still will step, we call him runt / Like window shoppers, I see through every front,” raps Yachty.

J. Cole then hops in, delivering a verse equally as structured, reaffirming his GOAT status. He also notable calls out industry folk using social activism for clout.

“I started saying less / I had to stop it / Peeped how they profit off of racial stress / Some activists got so rich, they probably wished we stayed oppressed.

In the song’s accompanying video, the two rappers are seen in an empty arena, rapping their asses off, while making it look so damn easy.

Who Is Opening Lil Yachty’s ‘The Field Trip Tour?’

Tesla” rapper Lil Yachty’s The Field Trip Tour is nearly here. Beginning on Thursday, September 21, he will embark on a 39-date excursion across the globe. With two massive legs, including a North American and European run, fans are curious about who is opening for the tour? Well, when The Field Trip Tour was initially announced in May, that was a mystery.

But, thanks to the updated promotional graphic shared on Lil Yachty’s official Instagram page, we now know that Nick Hakim, Jean Dawson, and Nala Sinephro will do the honors. Learn more about the supporting acts below.

Nick Hakim

The North American wing of The Field Trip Tour will solely feature “Happen” musician Nick Hakim as the opening act. Born to a Chilean mother and Peruvian father, Hakim uses his rich cultural references and the robust sounds of his hometown, Washington, DC, to operate outside the genre bounds. Since his move to Brooklyn, New York, Hakim has become a frontrunner in the region’s push for sonic fluidity. Last year, Hakim released his latest album, COMETA, a product of that creative exploration.

Jean Dawson

Recording artist Jean Dawson will pick up the supporting act mantle when The Field Trip Tour makes its way to Europe in November. Following in alignment with Lil Yachty’s journey into the musical fringes, Dawson joining him on the road makes sense. The musician’s past projects — Chaos Now*, Pixel Bath, Bath Sports — and his forthcoming collaboration with singer SZA are blends of his sonic interests. Dawson’s artistry is a journey similar to his move from his hometown of Tijuana, Mexico, Dawson to San Diego, California. As a biracial (Black and Mexican) act, Dawson aims to pay homage to each culture.

Nala Sinephro

Although Nala Sinephro will only join The Field Trip Tour for its stop in London, England, where she is currently based, her music is worth a listen. Most of the featured acts on the tour emphasize alternative elements in their work, but for Sinephro, it’s all about jazz. The Caribbean-Belgian multi-instrumentalist pushes the bounds of the genre. On her debut album, Space 1.8, which was shared in 2021, she fully displayed her technical abilities with the pedal harp, modular synthesizer, keyboards, and piano.

Lil Yachty Reacted To People Trying To ‘Bully’ Him After He Shared Photos Of His New, Very Different Haircut

Lil Yachty recently shared some new selfies on social media to show off his new hairstyle, after cutting off his braids. He poses around backstage and sits on a couch.

“She like my haircut, it turn her on!!!” He captioned the series of pics, seemingly pretty excited about them.

“I chopped da top, f*kk it,” Lil Yachty also wrote in the Instagram post.

However, he couldn’t have anticipated the reactions. Some people were pointing out that he looked better, while others had jokes and harsher comments.

“What’s under the hat boat,” one user asked. Lil Yachty took it well, responding with a hiding laughter emoji.

Others had trouble even recognizing him. “WAIT I JUST REALIZED THIS IS F*CKING LIL BOAT???” another person quoted.

About twenty minutes later, the rapper tweeted that some of the comments were upsetting him. “I did not stop drinkin lean for n****s to bully me and tell me I look like I have leukemia,” he posted.

Despite people trying to bully him, Lil Yachty did start posting a few of the memes to his Instagram story. One is a photo of a barbershop haircut menu with images of the male models, as someone notes that he got the “No. 15” and went bald.

Lil Yachty And Despot Link On Impressive New Single “Rain”

What more needs to be said about Lil Yachty this year? The man has been on a creative escapade throughout the duration of 2023. We still have three and a half months to go before the new year, which means plenty of time for Lil Boat to wow us. Well, he is continuing to bring the heat in many different forms. Unfortunately, this latest offering is only available on SoundCloud which may bring some disappointment to his fans. However, they might want to still check “Rain” out because it is a fantastic track.

Here he teams up with elusive underground rapper Despot and producer sadpony. The vibe of the track is very idiosyncratic with the production being very minimal. With a flare of alternative pop and hip-hop thrown in as well, it is a truly fascinating combination of sounds and artists. Despot may not be an extremely household name, but he is a veteran in the New York underground and has been for quite some time. He rarely drops any music and is signed under Run The Jewels member, El-P, and his label, Definitive Jux. Right away you might be thinking how do all three of these artists do together? It is simply magic.

Listen To “Rain” From Lil Yachty, Despot, and Sadpony

Yachty and Despost are both rapping passionately over sadpony’s odd instrumental. It throws in shots of background vocals, water dripping, and a xylophone. It is a colorful production from sadpony who worked extensively on Let’s Start Here. The messages from both rappers are very inspirational adding to a grand but distinctive beat.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand new Soundcloud exclusive track, “Rain,” from Lil Yachty, Despot, and sadpony? Is this one of Yachty’s best performances of the year?
