When you’re in elite celebrity circles like Drake, you have to resort to extreme measures to move about the world. The OVO mogul is arguably one of the most recognizable entertainers globally, so traveling in and of itself is a feat. However, when attending private events or going places that require anonymity, Drake resorts to extreme measures to stay under the radar. That is, so he says.

Recently, Drizzy sat down with one of his besties, Lil Yachty, for an intimate interview. During the chat, the Her Loss star admitted that he wanted to support a friend who was having legal troubles. Drake decided to attend a court hearing, so he called on Hollywood experts to help him change his looks. It went beyond wardrobe; the Rap icon says he hired someone to put prosthetics on him to make him look like an elderly person.

Even With Prosthetics, People Still Recognize Drake

Drake didn’t share photos of his old man display, but he says people were quick to point him out. “Everyone is like, ‘Is that Drake as an 80-year-old?’” says the rapper as he laughed through his story. “Yo, I had one of the best Hollywood makeup artists in the world, and they were still like, ‘That’s definitely Drake in there. It did not work.”

Unfortunately, for those who are nosy, Drizzy didn’t share the name of his friend. However, fans speculate that he may have been referring to Young Thug. With his name so actively involved in XXXTentacion’s murder case, Drake could be steering clear of courthouses altogether. Meanwhile, there were several takeaways from Drake and Yachty’s conversation. When this interview was first teased, Futuremood uploaded a brief clip of Drake teasing his retirement. Later, his comments received full context, and it seems Drake was more concerned with knowing when it was time to bow out.

“I feel like a lot of people that I’ve watched as the years have gone on, it’s a really addictive competitive space,” said Drake. “Oftentimes, you’re addicted to the competition itself. And so, sometimes, it’ll baffle you. Like, why are these people still making attempts at like, trying to be present in the space? Drake Sort Of Regrets Using His Ex-Girlfriends’ Real Names In Past Songs

Drake and Lil Yachty sat down for a 35-minute interview that served as the premiere episode of Yachty’s “A Moody Conversation” from his FUTUREMOOD brand. The conversation dropped on Friday, February 24. Within the first 10 minutes, Drake opened up about an eventual “graceful exit” from the rap game and which aspects of his music haven’t necessarily aged gracefully.

“I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” Drake told Yachty. “I feel like a lot of people that I’ve watched as the years have gone on, it’s a really addictive, competitive space, and oftentimes, you’re addicted to the competition itself. And so, sometimes it’ll baffle you. Like, why are these people still making attempts at trying to present in the space? And then you’ll realize, like, their needs and desires and their soul was probably fed for so long off of being a guy or the guy that they can’t let it go.”

He continued, “I guess what’s left for me is just to find a way to gracefully — like, I’m not ready now, but to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely interesting and hopefully cherished by people, and then to find the right time to say, ‘I can’t wait to see what the next generation does.’ I’ll still be around to work with people or do a show here or there, but I’m not going to force myself to compete.”

This reminded Yachty of Drake referencing his plan to retire by 35 years old on the 2016 Views track “Weston Road Flows. (Drake turned 36 last October.) The Toronto icon immediately cringed. “Nah, I hate hearing that sh*t. I heard it the other night when we were at the club,” he said before noting he thought 35 was “really old” back then.

Drake then elaborated on his two music-related regrets in hindsight:

“I think that and sometimes when I’ve said girls names in songs, maybe those are the two things that I look back on and I’m like, ‘Ah, maybe I could’ve done without sh*tting on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life.’ The lyrics are never with ill intent, but I had somebody say one time, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you’re saying about me; it’s the fact that you said it. Just in the sense of, ‘You don’t know what it does to me. You don’t know who my boyfriend is at the time. You don’t know what my family or doesn’t know, and if you express any form of [ill will] for me in a song and call me by name, then all of a sudden, I’m left to pick up the pieces of my own life that I’ve tried to build up for myself.’”

Drake added that he’s “tried my best” to stop naming his ex-girlfriends in songs, but his affinity for honest music makes it a “push and pull” balancing act. Yachty admitted that he used to think his friend was making girls’ names up, and Drake confirmed he doesn’t think he’s “ever made a girl’s name up, ever in life.”

Yachty asked Drake about casting vision for the next phase of his career. “A guy like you that, essentially, I feel like—and I hate, I’m not gonna say ‘has everything.’ Because no one has everything. But has accomplished so much in life and has reached so many levels, seen so many things, experienced so many things. What else is there to want? What does someone want who has—that’s not even as far as materialistic. That could be as far as anything. But what is it that, to even search for or want as a human?”

Lil Yachty Reveals Origins Of Drake Friendship

Earlier this week, Lil Yachty caught up with journalists Brian “B.Dot” Miller and Elliot Wilson for Rap Radar’s latest episode. The Atlanta rapper and producer is fresh off the release of his January LP, Let’s Start Here, which friend Drake calls a certified “masterpiece.” He was even praised by Questlove for the experimental project. The Roots frontman was shocked by what he says is the “most surprising transition of any music career.” It seems Yachty’s efforts to be taken more seriously are paying off by the droves.

During the sit-down, the podcast was curious as to how Lil Boat and Drake came to grow so close. Yachty plays a huge hand on Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss, with production credits on four major tracks. When asked about the opportunity, the wock-star says even a studio session would’ve sufficed at the time. ”Man, I for a very long time wanted to just do anything involving music with him,” he tells Brian and Elliot. He remembers relaying this to the 6 lyricist: “I just want to soak it up and just see how you do it. I want to see you rap…”

After proclaiming Drake the ”greatest rapper ever,” Lil Yachty detailed his cohort’s admiration for him from the start. “He always loved my beat selection[s],” he says. Yachty goes on to discuss how Drizzy would make it a standout point whenever he dropped new music. “And that’s crazy to hear from him, you know? Especially during a time when nobody was really f**king with me.”

In spite of him not having many connections when he first began, things have certainly panned out for the rapper over the years. Yachty’s developed sound is apparent on Her Loss-produced tracks such as “BackOutsideBoyz“ and “P*ssy & Millions.” He also had the opportunity to co-produce “Privileged Rappers” and “Jumbotron Sh*t Poppin” with OVO’s Noah “40” Shebib. If it wasn’t realized by the owl tattoo on his wrist, it’s safe to say the “Poland” rhymer has been officially stamped by the crew. Earlier today, Yachty and Drake were spotted together yet again, this time on a beach as they shared a snippet of their upcoming interview, out tomorrow.

Drake Admitted To Thinking About A ‘Graceful Exit’ In A Teaser For His Interview With Lil Yachty

Rappers and retirement historically don’t mix, but Drake is flirting it anyway. Lil Yachty is the latest guest on the Rap Radar podcast, but that’s been slightly overshadowed by Yachty posting a clip from “A Moody Conversation” interview with Drake for his Futuremood sunglasses company.

“I think I’m at the point now where I just wanna, like — I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day, but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” Drake told Yachty while ocean waves crashed behind them.

Yachty teased that the full episode will drop tomorrow, February 24.

Drake taking stock of his life and career was on full display during his Apollo Theater performance last month, which even featured him wearing his old Jimmy Brooks Degrassi jersey.

“I wanted to make this a show about gratitude,” Drake told his intimate Apollo audience, according to Uproxx’s review. “This is a little story that we put together. My deep love for my family, for my dear friends, and for each and every one of you who have been supporting me for a long time. […] This is my bedroom in my mom’s basement where I wrote a lot of new songs. […] I’m gonna play you some of the sh*t that got us out of here.”

Yachty recently gushed about Drake to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe while promoting his new album, Let’s Start Here.

“I love him to death,” Yachty told Lowe. “That’s my guy, man. … Our relationship has just grown so big and so tight. But that’s my guy, man. That’s my brother, man. That’s like the only person I probably talk to since I was, like, nineteen on a daily basis. Like, every single day.”

If Drake really is planning to slow down on the music front, maybe he’ll use the extra time to work on his “old-man YMCA game.”
