Dillon Brooks Says He Doesn't Regret Comments to LeBron Because He's a 'Competitor'

Dillon Brooks has finally spoken. After being tossed by LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers from the playoffs, Brooks had been silent, opting to skip post-game media availability and receiving a $25,000 fine in the process.

Brooks was on hand at the Grizzlies’ season wrap-up session and gave his thoughts to the media. “That’s who I am,” Brooks said. “I’m a competitor. I compete. I don’t think it got LeBron ‘geeked’ up. He’s back in the playoffs, it’d been a little while. He was ready to play.”

After the Los Angeles Lakers ousted the Memphis Grizzlies from the NBA Playoffs, King James didn’t stick around to shake hands with his opponent, especially Dillon Brooks. But over the weekend, the Lakers star did have some messages to get off, one of which was written by JAY-Z.

Hitting Twitter, James sent a message to the young boys, evoking the energy of HOV’s “Trouble” when, at a point, he was doing the same.

“Trouble” was part of JAY-Z’s “Kingdom Come” album and bars set for R. Kelly and others. But the jabs at “young” rappers have long been thought to be bars at Lil Wayne, who was running with the Best Rapper Alive title and had subliminals for JAY-Z as well. Clearly, they are cool today.

But Bron wasn’t done, flipping Mystikal’s “if you see me fighting a bear, help the bear.” Another shot at the Grizzlies.

Poking a Bear Leads Grizzlies to 3-1 Hole After LeBron's 20-20 Game

Don’t you ever forget LeBron James is a Roc Boy. Lil Wayne Beefs: Biggest Feuds Of His Career

Lil Wayne is one of, if not the most, prolific Hip-Hop artists of the 21st century. As with many rappers, his success has come with various feuds stemming from several reasons. Many of these feuds have been highly publicized. However, Wayne has refrained from dropping too many diss tracks and instead sends subliminals. Let’s look at some of Wayne’s biggest feuds over his career.

Gillie Da Kid

One of Wayne’s earliest feuds was brought about because of his affiliations with Cash Money Records. In 2003, artist Gillie Da Kid left Cash Money over a disagreement regarding finances with the label’s founder Birdman. After this, Wayne dropped a diss track on Gillie Da Kid titled “Problem Solver” on his 2006 mixtape, The Carter 2, Part 2: Like Father Like Son. After the release of the “Problem Solver,” Gillie appeared on a few street DVD’s exposing how “fake” Wayne and Birdman were. Gillie claimed that he was a ghostwriter for Wayne’s album Tha Carter. Gillie said Weezy needed to slow down on his drug use. He also claimed Wayne borrowed his jewelry for a music video.

When Wayne was asked about Gillie during a video shoot, he jokingly remarked, “Who?” Gillie responded with a diss track in late 2006 over the “Cannon” instrumental, in which he dissed Wayne and Birdman. Wayne responded with a few bars on his Da Drought 3 mixtape in 2007. Gillie’s last diss track on Wayne was over the instrumental of “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy,” which Gillie titled “Frontin’ Like My Daddy.”

In 2010, Wayne was arrested and incarcerated for gun possession. Later, Gillie dropped a video stating that he did not want to see anyone in jail. This video ended the feud, as it seemed that both men dropped the beef at this point.

50 Cent

Wayne and 50 Cent’s feud began in 2007 after 50 called Wayne a “whore” for working with so many artists. Fif then dissed Wayne and Birdman in his song “Part Time Lover.” He also reportedly publicly questioned MTV’s decision to rank Weezy as the No. 1 hottest MC in the game. Wayne replied to 50 Cent’s remarks in an interview, in which he complimented his peer. Wayne further said the New York rapper was a “trillionaire” and was at the place Wayne wanted to go. However, in 2008, a song by Wayne titled “Louisianimal” leaked online, and the rap icon began his verse by sending shots at 50. Wayne also sent a subliminal shot at 50 on his verse on Pimp C’s song “Let’s Talk Money.”

50 Cent then replied to these jabs in his songs “Play This on the Radio” and “Office Ricky (Go Head, Try Me)” in 2009. Fif rapped about Wayne’s decision to call his friend Eminem out. He also mocked Wayne in a video as he strummed a guitar. This came after Wayne announced the release of his rock album Rebirth.

Wayne then teased 50 Cent in 2010 with his music video for “Money on My Mind.” He can be seen picking up 50’s book, From Pieces to Weight, and laughing in the visual. 50 brought back the beef a year later with more bars on his track “Love, Hate, Love.” In 2012 and 2013, the beef seemed to have been squashed. 50 Cent wished Wayne well after suffering a seizure in 2012. The two were pictured together at a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight.

Pusha T

Wayne and Pusha T’s beef began in 2006 after Wayne was on the cover of Vibe wearing Japanese clothing brand A Bathing Ape’ Wayne also wore BAPE clothes in his music video for “Hustler Musik.” Pusha T and his brother Malice, along with their long-time friend, Pharrell, were some of the first rappers to wear BAPE, so they believed Wayne was biting their style. Because of this, the duo known as Clipse dropped a song titled “Mr. Me Too,” where they dissed Wayne.

When asked about these allegations in a Complex interview, Wayne said, “Talk to me like you’re talking to the best. I don’t see no fuckin’ Clipse. Come on, man. Weezy, man. They had to do a song with us to get hot, B.” Wayne also stated that Clipse and Pharrell wore BAPE, and fans thought it was “weird.” However, after he wore it, they thought it was “hot.”

Pusha T again dissed Wayne on Clipse’s track “Re-Up Gang Intro” and again on “Open Your Eyes.” The beef appeared over after Wayne was incarcerated in 2010. Pusha T publicly voiced his support for Wayne. However, Pusha returned with more bars for Wayne in 2012 when he dropped a single titled “Exodus 23:1.” On the song, he sent many shots at Wayne and Drake. After the song’s release, Wayne tweeted, “Fuk pusha t and anybody that love em.” He dropped a diss track the same day of the tweet titled “Goulish.” Pusha by calling it “weak.”

Birdman

Perhaps Wayne’s most heated and publicized feud of Lil Wayne’s career has been with Birdman. Birdman is the CEO of Cash Money Records and took Lil Wayne under his wing as a teenager. Wayne has often referred to Birdman as his “father,” however, in 2014, things took a turn. Wayne aired out his public grievances toward Birdman and Cash Money due to the pushback of his album Tha Carter V.

In December of 2014, less than a week after Tha Carter V’s intended release, Wayne took to Twitter to voice his frustrations. He wrote, “I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain’t that easy.” Weezy also tweeted, “I am a prisoner and so is my creativity.” Things heated up in January of 2015, as Wayne filed a $51 million lawsuit against Birdman and Cash Money. He cited that Birdman violated the terms of his contract by refusing to release Tha Carter V.

Wayne signed a streaming deal with Jay Z’s platform Tidal and also attempted to remove Birdman from Young Money Records legally. An indictment in July 2015 claimed that Birdman and Young Thug conspired to kill Wayne after shots were fired at his tour bus. However, neither man was charged with any crime. A day after the shooting, Birdman sued Tidal for $50 million after they released Wayne’s mixtape Free Weezy.

In 2016, the two attempted to reconcile. Both appeared on-stage together and were also pictured in the studio. However, Wayne proceeded to diss Birdman on his verse on Chance the Rapper’s “No Problems” and again yelled “Fuck Cash Money” at a live performance. Wayne then filed a $40 million lawsuit against Universal Music Group. In September 2016, judges sided with Wayne in his lawsuit against Birdman. Yet in November, Birdman called off negotiations regarding the lawsuit. The beef seems to be over, but only time will tell.

Lil Wayne Surpasses 25 Billion Streams On Spotify

There’s hardly a rapper like Lil Wayne who adapted and prospered through the evolution of the music industry in the past 30 years. When CDs were at the height of popularity, he was a member of the Hot Boyz, revving for his solo debut. Then, he shifted the mixtape game indefinitely during the mid-aughts. Still, he remains a giant on streaming platforms across the board, especially Spotify. New reports claim that Weezy F. Baby has officially passed 25 billion streams on Spotify across all credits. It’s an impressive feat that goes to show how timeless his catalog is.

Still, Lil Wayne has ways to go before he could become the highest-streaming rapper, a title that belongs to his protegé Drake. Lil Wayne’s reached some phenomenal milestones throughout the streaming era. Tha Carter III, for example, recently reached 1 billion streams on Spotify, contributing to Lil Wayne’s overall streaming success. The rapper currently has 32 million monthly listeners but his most streamed records are those that he features on. DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One” ft. Lil Wayne, Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper, and Quavo sits at 1,172,372,958. Second to DJ Khaled’s hit record is “Sucker For Pain,” Lil Wayne’s collab with Wiz Khalifa and Imagine Dragons for the Suicide Squad soundtrack that currently has 1,025,032,852 streams.

Lil Wayne’s Reaches New Streaming Heights

Wayne’s massive accomplishment arrives in the midst of his Welcome To Tha Carter tour. In the past month, Wayne’s embarked on a must-see tour in intimate settings where he provides day-one fans with a journey through his catalog. The rapper’s also brought through a series of guests including Drake, Cam’ron and NLE Choppa, who gifted Wayne a gorgeous new chain as a token of his gratitude.

We could imagine that Lil Wayne will likely keep his Spotify momentum high, especially with a new album on the way. The rapper announced Tha Carter VI last summer and later, launched a pre-save link. Still, he hasn’t left fans empty handed. Along with collaborating with Swizz Beatz on “Kant Nobody” and most recently, “That Sh*t Right Here,” Lil Wayne celebrated his career with the I Am Music compilation project.

Swizz Beatz & Lil Wayne Light Up This Week’s “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update

After another round of impressive New Music Friday arrivals yesterday (April 21), we’re back with our weekly Fire Emoji playlist update. Today’s lineup is one of our longest in a minute, and it kicks off with two new arrivals from NBA YoungBoy’s Don’t Try This At Home project. The first is “What You Say,” featuring Post Malone and The Kid LAROI, and following that comes a solo effort from the Louisana native called “Choppa Docter.” Prior to releasing his project, YB also shared collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Mariah the Scientist as singles.

Armani White delivered serious heat in the form of “SILVER TOOTH.”` with A$AP Ferg this week. The song is perfect to add to your S/S 2023 playlist and is just the start of what’s to come from the Def Jam artist later this year. Belly is another name we deemed Fire Emoji-worthy today, thanks to his work on “American Nightmare.” Of course, we would be remiss not to mention Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz’s work together on “This Sh*t Right Here” from the latter’s new Hip Hop 50: Vol 2 project.

The release recommendations don’t stop there. Tee Grizzley and Skilla Baby’s joint effort, “B&E Pt. 1” has also been deemed a must-listen, as well as a headline-making hit from one of our favourite rising female rap divas. Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor” has been stirring up plenty of attention online after she teased it during her first weekend performing at Coachella. Coi Leray accused the 777 artist of body shaming her with her lyrics, though she’s since admitted to over-reacting about the situation.

For our final Fire Emoji selection of the weekend, we’ve picked Moneybagg Yo’s “Motion God.” The single arrives amid criticism coming toward the southern star over the steep prices at his new restaurant, which he expertly clapped back recently. Read more about that here, and tap into our weekly playlist update exclusively on Spotify below.

Rick Rosses Flashes Car Show Prize

Rick Ross loves cars. In fact, Rick Ross loves cars so much that last year he started his own car show. The Rick Ross Promise Land Car & Bike Show was launched last year at the musician’s Georgia estate. Last year’s five winners (plus The Turkey Hut food stall) went home with a diamond-encrusted key worth $5,000. The event was also attended by celebrities galore, making for an unforgettable day for those in attendance.

But the Rick Ross Promise Land Car & Bike Show is back for 2023. The event, once again held at Ross’ estate in Fayetteville, Georgia, will be held on June 3. Ross has been heavily promoting the event in recent days and dropped some white-hot details about what’s in store. That included revealing the grand prize, as well as some of the guest performances that will be adding to the festivities.

Key Necklace For Winners And A Lil Wayne Performance

Let’s start with the prize for the 2023 show. Taking to Instagram, Ross showed off the diamond-encrusted keys that would be given away. Similar in style to the 2022 prize, the key is covered in diamonds and bears the RR mark on one side. The key itself is reportedly 14-carat gold. It’s safe to assume they are worth something similar to the $5,000 mark of the 2022 keys. Though maybe not, as Ross says the 2023 prize is “four times bigger than last year’s”. However, these keys come pre-loaded onto some iced-out chains, making for some awesome drip.

But Ross wasn’t only flashing off the keys. He also revealed that the 2023 event would feature a performance from Lil Wayne. “The hot boy, you better believe it – Lil Tunechi,” Ross said in his video. While many celebrities were (and likely will be) in attendance, Ross is clearly going to all out to make this year’s show bigger and better. Ross will also be performing, making this an unmissable event for car and music fans alike. The Rick Ross Promise Land Car & Bike Show will run from 11am to 6pm on June 3. You already know that HotNewHipHop will have all the best rides and celeb sightings from the event.
