Here Are The Best Halloween Costumes From Music Artists In 2023

Due to its awkward placement within the week, Halloween 2023 celebrations kicked off early this weekend. Every year, Heidi Klum shuts the internet down with an over-the-top look. However, many of music’s biggest names aren’t far behind. Some of the most searched outfit inspirations this year included Beyoncé, Drake, and Taylor Swift. However, neither of those entertainers has shared their spooky spirits with their followers just yet.

So far, here are the best Halloween costumes from music artists in 2023 in alphabetic order.

Adele

During her latest Las Vegas residency show, Adele completely changed her signature look when she took the stage dressed as the fictional character Morticia Addams.

Halle Bailey & DDG

Halle Bailey and DDG pulled inspiration from another musical pairing for their look. The couple dressed up as Janet Jackson and the late Tupac’s characters in the 1993 film Poetic Justice.

Ice Spice

For Ice Spice, she traded her signature ginger curly afro for a short jet-black cut to embody the animated cartoon character Betty Boop.

Kim Petras

SAG-AFTRA instituted strict rules around members’ Halloween costumes, but those restrictions didn’t apply to Kim Petras. The singer decided to dress as Cherry Darling from the 2007 indie horror flick Planet Terror.

Lizzo

The death of Tina Turner still saddens the world. For Lizzo, she chose to use her spooky night plans to pay tribute to the late singer.

Machine Gun Kelly & Megan Fox

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox put their love for Manga on full display with two couple costumes. But their Death Note-inspired looks will take your breath away.

Tyga

Tyga is a monster when it comes to the beats he bodies so for his Halloween look, he opted to be as equally terrifying. The rapper went all out for his Art The Clown (from the 2016 slasher film Terrifier) get-up.

We will be updating this list as more celeb costumes continue rolling in.

City Girls And Kim Petras Have A Lush Night Out On Their New Single, ‘Flashy’

City Girls’ new album, RAW, is finally here. As with any City Girls project, RAW is packed with certified bangers, one of which is a new collab with Kim Petras, appropriately titled “Flashy.”

City Girls step into their pop bag, delivering a fun, punchy, anthem filled with girlish flair.

“Stylin’, shinin’ / I’m so flawless like my diamonds / I’m flashy / Big bags, price tags / You know all I wear is name brand / I’m flashy,” sings Petras on the song’s chorus.

Over the course of the song, the ladies allude to several luxury brands, as JT notes she can be spotted “Wearin’ so much diamonds, lookin’ like a ball,” as she dons “Louis and Gucci / Like three, four Prada, Murakami.”

Yung Miami vacations out “on an island, wilin’, smilin’ / A place where these hatin’ ass hoes can’t find me,” while dressed in “Fendi and Chanel.”

Since dropping their debut mixtape Period back in 2018, City Girls have remained a force in the rap game, and they continue to kill it through different avenues. Miami has pulled in millions of views with her talk show, Caresha Please, and JT has had an impressive solo run, with tracks like “No Bars” and her fire verse on Kali Uchis’ “Muñekita.”

But when the girls come together, you know they have a hit on their hands.

You can listen to “Flashy” above.

RAW is out now via Capitol and Quality Control. Find more information here.

Nicki Minaj Serves Skintight Looks With Kim Petras In “Alone” Music Video

She may have failed to show at the 2023 Met Gala last night (May 1), but that doesn’t mean Nicki Minaj isn’t coming through with serves for The Barbz this week. Earlier today, her Instagram feed lit up with a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld – who this year’s fashion event was honouring – that caught our attention. This afternoon, the mother of one is back again, teaming up with Kim Petras to share the music video for their recent “Alone” single.

The song arrived in the latter half of April, and as Uproxx notes, it samples Alice Deejay’s “Better Off Alone” from 1999. Minaj has been frequently referring back to hits from past decades for her own recent releases, such as “Super Freaky Girl” and “Red Ruby Da Sleaze.” In her latest visual, the Queen of Rap dons a selection of skintight looks, putting her ample curves on display while performing with Petras.

The visual for “Alone” follows an equally as salacious one for the “Princess Diana (Remix),” which Minaj worked on with Ice Spice. Aside from that, we’ve also heard her on NBA YoungBoy’s “WTF” which landed ahead of his Don’t Try This At Home album. Her own music has certainly been impressive as of late, but the “Moment 4 Life” lyricist announced earlier this year that she’ll be channelling more of her energy into helping other artists with their come up.

She’s officially the first female artist to have their own label, which already boasts signees like London Hill and Nana Fofie. There’s also been talk about her taking Spice under her wing (their remix was released under Minaj), though nothing has been confirmed just yet. The last time we received an album from the 40-year-old was in 2018 with Queen, and fans are undoubtedly itching for more at this point. Kim Petras And Nicki Minaj Bring The Camp In Their Flirty ‘Alone’ Video

Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj’s anticipated collaboration “Alone” now has a glossy music video that shows off both performers’ love for vinyl clothing and campy looks. Throughout the video, Petras appears as a marching band leader and a 1980s aerobics instructor. Nicki appears in a black leather jumpsuit that turns out to be backless, revealing her Barbie-pink lingerie at the right angles.

“Alone” is built over a sample of Eurodance group Alice Deejay’s 1999 hit “Better Off Alone,” continuing what’s become a Nick Minaj trend of sampling ’80s and ’90s hits which has most recently included “Super Freaky Girl” and “Red Ruby Da Sleaze.”

The two stars have both turned out to be trendsetters in their own right, with Petras becoming the first trans woman to be honored with a Billboard Women In Music Award and to win a Grammy, with her son “Unholy” taking the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance trophy earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj has been extending her reach, adding a verse to Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana” remix after collaborating with NBA YoungBoy and launching her new record label. She’s also become the longest-charting female rapper since Missy Elliott, surpassing her predecessor in January.

Kim Petras Taps Nicki Minaj To Feature On Single “Alone”

Kim Petras has released the follow up single to her featuring role on Sam Smith’s hit, “Unholy.” Petras, who recently won a Grammy award, began teasing a new song on social media in March. It was then announced that it would feature a verse from Nicki Minaj. The song, titled “Alone,” prominently samples Alice Deejay’s famous ’90s Eurodance hit “Better Off Alone.” Petras later confirmed on Instagram that the song would be released on April 21 and posted a video in which she sat next to a fireplace and spoke into a pink rotary phone. The video featured a sample of Nicki’s voice saying “Yeah! It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras!” over the classic ’90s tune.

In an interview with Apple Music about the song, Kim Petras explained why she chose to sing over the sample. “I was born and raised in Germany, and that song is a classic in clubs all over Europe, so I grew up to it,” she said. “I had a lot of amazing moments, some bad moments… So many club moments in general to that song. So, that song is just in me, and I feel like it inspired me to make music. I’m just so honored that Alice Deejay let us do this shit because it’s epic.”

Some Features Are Better Than Others

What better way to start the summer pop season than singing over a dated ’90s pop instrumental? Although Kim Petras did recently take home a Grammy, it was for a featuring role on Sam Smith’s “Unholy.” Not to take away from her achievement, it’s still great. However, Kim Petras is not as good as a standalone artist as she is when she features on someone else’s song. Even if you grew up in the ’90s, the “Better Off Alone” instrumental is extremely played out. Perhaps if Dr. Luke, who produced the track, had made more of an effort to update the sound or modernize it, it would have been better. Sadly, it feels very much like a copy and paste job.

Lyrically, the song is a basic club banger reminiscent of 2010-era singles. It features lyrics about wanting to go home with someone you meet while you’re out dancing. “I could ride it, ride it, ride it, ride it all night,” Petras philosophizes over the beat. “Watch me ride it, ride it, ride it, ride it all night.” According to the credits, six people wrote the lyrics to this song. That’s not counting Nicki and her verse. Speaking of Nicki, sadly her verse does not do much for the song. While her flow is amazing as always, it feels somewhat tacked on. It does, however, go to show how much of a chameleon she is. Still, it doesn’t touch her “Princess Diana” feature from last week. What do you think of the new Kim Petras song? Sound off in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics:

I set trends from Queens to Beijing
I’m not the one that do the imitating
Puff, puff, pass ’cause you know we blazing
When I put it on him, he say, “It’s amazing”

Do Nicki Minaj And Kim Petras Have A Song Coming?

It’s true! Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj have expressed their intentions to collaborate, with Minaj being a feature on the upcoming “Alone” single.

Petras broke the news on social media this week with a video of her answering a telephone call. Minaj’s voice can be heard on the other end, saying cheerfully, “Yeah! It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras!” She captioned it with the release date, which is April 21.

Billboard has also reported that “Alone” samples Alice Deejay’s 1998 song, “Better Off Alone.” While not much else is known about it yet, needless to say, fans are excited about the potential of their two faves joining forces.

However, some had been suspecting the collab was coming for quite a while. Last month, a clip went around of Petras doing an interview with the publication, where she dished about who would be in her dream girl group. Off the bat, she listed some picks like Charli XCX and Lana Del Rey. Then, with a laugh, she also named Nicki Minaj — leading fans to think that something was possibly already in the works.

“CLOCK THAT SHE STARTING GIGGLING WHEN NICKI WAS MENTIONED TEA OH THAT COLLAB IS COMING,” one replied.

Meanwhile, another fan knew exactly what it was. “We getting that ‘Alone’ feature,” they wrote.

Latto Hit The ‘Lottery’ At The ‘Billboard’ Women In Music 2023 While Kim Petras, Becky G And Doechii Also Performed

Billboard‘s Women In Music 2023 was held in Los Angeles last night, March 1. The annual event was hosted by Quinta Brunson and, as the title suggests, celebrated the impact of several powerful women in music.

SZA took home Woman Of The Year, Olivia Rodrigo presented Lana Del Rey with the Visionary Award, and Bad Bunny even showed up to present Ivy Queen the Icon Award.

But it wouldn’t be an awards show without performances.

Kim Petras, the Chartbreaker Award recipient, kicked the evening off with an atmospheric rendition of her January single “Brrr.”

Roughly 20 minutes later, Doechii’s mother, Celesia Moore, introduced her as this year’s Rising Star before she took the stage to deliver a dynamic performance of “Persuasive.” (Doechii also teased “new music” is on the way earlier in the day.)

Lainey Wilson, this year’s Rulebreaker Award winner, was up next around the 37-minute mark, and she allowed everyone to catch their breath from Doechii with the ballad “Heart Like A Truck.”

After Ivy Queen and SZA were honored with their respective awards — complete with a video message from Lizzo, who sang her “favorite SZA song” “Warm Winds” and called her friend “the real deal” — Chlöe hyped up Latto as the Powerhouse Award winner.

Chlöe ran through how overwhelmingly successful “Big Energy” has been for Latto and expressed how Latto “has been there for advice … but even more special, she has openly shared her sisterhood with me.”

She continued, “It can be difficult as a young woman to find your own confidence. I struggle with that every day. But just put any Latto record on, and it is hard not to feel like a boss. She is the personification of a powerhouse.”

And Latto backed up Chlöe’s words with a, well, powerful staging of her latest single, “Lottery.”

Becky G later brought”Mamiii” to the stage after she was presented the American Express Impact Award by Dove Cameron, and TWICE capped off the night with a soaring performance of “Moonlight Sunrise.”

Lizzo Shared A Jazzed-Up Cover Of Sam Smith And Kim Petras’ ‘Unholy’ On BBC Radio 1

Sam Smith and Kim Petras have everybody talking with their smash hit, “Unholy.” But even after a week of Grammys buzz, and several complaints to the FCC, the hype isn’t dying down. Today, BBC Radio 1 shared a cover of “Unholy” performed by the one and only Lizzo.

She sang the song during an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge show. When explaining her choice, Lizzo said “It’s a massive tune,” in a British accent.

She continued, saying, “I’m such a huge fan of Sam and Kim, and this song is just hot right now. I’ve been wanting to sing it, so you gave me a reason.”

During her cover, she sang to the beat of rolling drums and blaring, seductive horns. Her signature, soulful vocals gave the song a jazzy feel — not to mention, new sounds from a flute, and a hypnotic electric guitar bridge.

It’s been a big month for Lizzo. Last weekend, her song “About Damn Time” won the Grammy for Record Of The Year. This weekend, she will kick off the second leg of her Special Tour, appropriately called the Special 2our.

In the meantime, you can listen to Lizzo’s “Unholy” cover here at the 9:30 mark.
