When Is Record Store Day 2024?

Every vinyl collector’s favorite holiday is almost here. No, you can’t expect to be given the day off from work, but Record Store Day 2024 might be worth calling in sick if your wallet permits.

Over the last few months, several musicians, including Nicki Minaj, Green Day, Alicia Keys, and more. With several notable albums still slated to be released soon (coughs, Ariana Grande), Record Store Day 2024 is set to be another for the history books. So when is it exactly?

When Is Record Store Day 2024?

Record Store Day 2024 is set to take place on April 20. Today (February 10), the musical movement announced that the beloved and “freshly independent” band Paramore (also Uproxx cover stars) will serve as this year’s official ambassador.

In their Instagram post confirming the news, the “Misery Business” musicians stressed the importance of supporting independently owned and operated record stores.

“The discovery of music was always meant to be romantic,” they wrote. “Indie record shops are some of the only spaces we’ve got that offer a tangible, tactile experience of music discovery. In this world that feels more disconnected and hostile than ever, it feels important to remain in touch (literally) with what inspires us, empowers us, or simply brings us joy.”

The Record Store Day 2024 release list has not yet been shared, but it should be soon. Find more information here.

Nas Will Finally Release Long-Lost “I AM… THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY” In Original Form

Nas’ third studio album, I Am marked a shift in technology. Per Apple Music, the Queensbridge rapper was forced to scrap dozens of songs after his album was bootlegged via MP3 in one of the first major leaks to impact the music industry. Many of those records would land on projects like Lost Tapes Vol. 1 and Nastradamus. Still, he still had a vault of songs from that album we hoped would surface sooner rather than later.

It’s seemingly been guarded to prevent another leak from occurring but finally, Nas appears ready to release I AM… THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY in its original form. Per HipHopDX, the 1999 double-disc effort will drop as a vinyl on November 24th during Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. According to RSD’s official website, the vinyl “features 2 unreleased tracks, as well as many other rarities that have been on limited vinyl and 12″ previously, as well as deluxe packaging.”

There’s plenty of mystique surrounding I AM… THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY. The album was originally intended to be a conceptual effort following Nas’ life from birth to death and later, rebirth. The rapper and Columbia later rearranged the album to what we know now as I Am. The project boasted singles like “Hate Me Now” ft. Diddy and “Nas Is Like.” The former actually served as the inspiration behind “Young N***a” by Nipsey Hussle, whom the Queensbridge artist revealed was planning a documentary surrounding the album prior to his death.

For I AM…. THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY to come out will undoubtedly be a treat for Nas fans. That’s especially the case after his prolific run these past few years. Following the release of the Ye-produced Nasir, he asserted his dominance with two trilogies: King’s Disease and Magic, both produced entirely by Hit-Boy. Nas unleashed Magic 3, their final album together, on September 14th, 2023. Are you going to cop I AM… THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY? Let us know in the comments below.

Here Is The Record Store Day Black Friday Vinyl Release List For 2023

Record Store Day has unveiled the titles that they will be releasing for Black Friday 2023, just next month on November 24. Among the pressings, there are a few key titles that fans will be hoping to get their hands on.

Here’s what to know.

Noah Kahan is putting out a vinyl version of his Cape Elizabeth EP for the first time. Originally released in 2020, it will be available on a color marble vinyl as his “thank you to the fans who stuck around, came to shows, watched my livestreams and listened.”

Another RSD First release, Post Malone‘s The Diamond Collection will be available on clear vinyl.

Rilo Kiley will be reissuing their Under The Blacklight album on a translucent “blacklight” vinyl — available for the first time in this form since 2007.

Joni Mitchell’s Court And Spark Demos exclusive vinyl will include the never-before-heard recordings made during the album’s creation process.

Grateful Dead fans can also grab a vinyl copy of their Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA 3/2/1969 show. This will be limited to 7,500 copies and be a 5xLP pressing.

Other artists on this year’s list include releases from Dr. Dre, The Doors, The Jonas Brothers, The Beach Boys, De La Soul, Phoenix, Kim Petras, and more.

What Day Is Record Store Day Fall 2023?

Record Store Day has been an annual tradition dating back to 2007. Originally started to celebrate (and potentially save) endangered independent record stores, it has since become an unofficial holiday for vinyl collectors and music lovers. Think Free Comic Book Day, but for fans of Amy Winehouse or Miles Davis instead of Batman and Spider-Man.

However, unlike Free Comic Book Day, Record Store Day happens twice a year: Once in April, and again in November — the day after Thanksgiving, in fact. You may know it as “Black Friday,” the day retail employees dread and early Christmas shoppers anticipate every autumn, when stores slash prices to clear stock for the coming new year. According to the official Record Store Day website: “Record Store Day and RSD Black Friday are different events” and the latter is an effort to “promote brick-and-mortar indie record stores in the face of a shopping frenzy.” The big difference is that “stores will launch the special releases on RSD Black Friday but may choose to carry them throughout the holiday season.”

What Day Is Record Store Day Black Friday 2023?

Thanksgiving falls (heh) on Thursday, November 23 this year, so naturally, Black Friday is November 24.

As far as what special edition releases are dropping next month, you can check out a list here. To find out if your local record store is participating, you can check here.

Taylor Swift, Childish Gambino, And Foo Fighters Are Dropping Exclusive Record Store Day 2022 Releases

This year’s Record Store Day is on April 23, and now the moment everybody has been waiting for has arrived: The lengthy list of exclusive releases has been revealed.

Taylor Swift, this year’s Global Ambassador for RSD, is an exclusive 7-inch vinyl of “The Lakes,” which features both the album and “original” versions of the song, making the latter version of the song available on vinyl for the first time. She and others are also involved in a compilation album.

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters are releasing a split single that includes a version of “Making A Fire” re-worked by Mark Ronson and a version of “Chasing Birds” reimagined by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Childish Gambino is also making his 2014 EP Kauai available on vinyl for the first time ever.
