GloRilla & Saweetie Have A Sweet Interaction At The Billboard Women In Music Awards: Watch

I think most people can agree that competition, as well as friendships in hip-hop are both good for the genre. Not having enough of each could lower the attention it gets. Both add a sense of fascination, keeping fans hooked outside of the music itself. However, talking about beefs can be a little disheartening. There is already so much hate in this world, and seeing artists argue over insignificant things (most of the time) is frustrating. However, we are happy to say that GloRilla and Saweetie are two female rappers that are still friends. It seems there is a lot of animosity with a majority of the femcees, so seeing them still close is nice. GloRilla and Saweetie both popped out to the Billboard Women in Music Awards and rekindled their relationship.

The celebration of women’s contributions in music continued on Wednesday, March 6, marking its 17th anniversary. According to Billboard, it was available to watch on livestream one day later. Of course, like any award show, there is a red carpet portion of the evening and GloRilla and Saweetie took that time to catch up. In the video below, you can check out their adorable interaction at the Billboard event.

They hugged it out and chatted for a minute and fans were happy to see them be so cordial with one another. “She said Saweetie was the first celebrity to reach out and give her, her flowers when she was coming up 🫶🏿 look at you winning,” one person says. Another adds, “Saweetie is really a girl’s girl 😍I love her and love Glo!” While they still have not made music together, both are popping off right now with “Yeah Glo!” and “Richtivities.”

What are your thoughts on GloRilla and Saweetie’s link-up at the Billboard Women in Music Awards? Are the best female rap friends in the game right now, why or why not? Is friendship or more competition better for hip-hop and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Saweetie And GloRilla Shared A Sweet Moment At Billboard’s Women In Music Awards Despite Rumors Of Beef Between Them

In 2022, as GloRilla’s breakout hit “FNF (Let’s Go)” dominated playlists and airwaves, fans breathlessly speculated about which of her fellow rap it-girls would appear on the track’s heavily anticipated remix. When it did come out, they got a surprise: while it had originally been billed to feature Saweetie, the released version instead featured JT of City Girls and Latto.

The abrupt change led to rumors that GloRilla and Saweetie had some behind-the-scenes issue — rumors that GloRilla did her best to brush off later that year. But at last night’s Billboard Women In Music Awards, the two rappers shared a sweet moment backstage that should put the rumors to rest once and for all. In a video making the rounds on social media, GloRilla appears to have noticed Saweetie walking by as she posed for photos. Ditching the shoot, Glo traipses over to intercept Saweetie and they exchange kind words and hugs.

At some point during the night, they also posed for Getty photographer Michael Buckner, resulting in a raft of pics of the pair embracing. It looks like they’re on relatively decent terms, so while there’s still no explanation on why the “FNF” remix didn’t feature Saweetie, perhaps we’ll get another collaboration instead.

Latto Explains Why She Keeps Her Private Life Secret

Not everyone wants to keep their life under wraps these days, but Latto is tight-lipped. It doesn’t seem like the hitmaker can catch a break, at least not on social media. Latto is inundated with harsh critiques, trolls, and mean-spirited naysayers who flood her mentions. This may be why she’s opted to keep her love life private, and during her chat with Extra TV, she explained balancing her public persona and home life.

Recently, there was yet another surge of questions about who Latto was dating. The rapper has curbed questions about her beau for years, only sharing that she’s happily in love. Latto won’t even hint at who it may be, but internet sleuths are doing their best to find out. People are convinced that she’s with 21 Savage, and Moneybagg Yo’s reported hairstylist even seemingly confirmed the information earlier this week.

Latto looked stunning at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, where she was given the Powerhouse honor. While on the red carpet, she chatted with Lindsay about her private life. “I really be waking up like, ‘Is this really my life?’ I’m like, ‘Everybody’s healthy around me — I could buy them whatever they want,’” said the hitmaker. “It’s like, where I’m from, I already made it, baby. We already made it.”

The 777 star also dropped off some advice for women looking to reach similar success. “I would say stay focused,” said Latto. “Look to your peers because nobody understand us like each other. We all share a lot of the same experiences and ups and downs, you know what I’m saying? So I feel like look to each other for unity and just stay focused because, you know, these men being in our DMs or whatever, like, they be trying to you know throw us off our game, but, you know what I’m saying, I ain’t slipping on my pigeon.”

It’s Give & Take

She added, “You got to because everything else is, like ,so exposed to the world. If it’s real, cherish it, keep it close to you.” Check out more from Latto and Rachel Lindsay above.

Latto Hit The ‘Lottery’ At The ‘Billboard’ Women In Music 2023 While Kim Petras, Becky G And Doechii Also Performed

Billboard‘s Women In Music 2023 was held in Los Angeles last night, March 1. The annual event was hosted by Quinta Brunson and, as the title suggests, celebrated the impact of several powerful women in music.

SZA took home Woman Of The Year, Olivia Rodrigo presented Lana Del Rey with the Visionary Award, and Bad Bunny even showed up to present Ivy Queen the Icon Award.

But it wouldn’t be an awards show without performances.

Kim Petras, the Chartbreaker Award recipient, kicked the evening off with an atmospheric rendition of her January single “Brrr.”

Roughly 20 minutes later, Doechii’s mother, Celesia Moore, introduced her as this year’s Rising Star before she took the stage to deliver a dynamic performance of “Persuasive.” (Doechii also teased “new music” is on the way earlier in the day.)

Lainey Wilson, this year’s Rulebreaker Award winner, was up next around the 37-minute mark, and she allowed everyone to catch their breath from Doechii with the ballad “Heart Like A Truck.”

After Ivy Queen and SZA were honored with their respective awards — complete with a video message from Lizzo, who sang her “favorite SZA song” “Warm Winds” and called her friend “the real deal” — Chlöe hyped up Latto as the Powerhouse Award winner.

Chlöe ran through how overwhelmingly successful “Big Energy” has been for Latto and expressed how Latto “has been there for advice … but even more special, she has openly shared her sisterhood with me.”

She continued, “It can be difficult as a young woman to find your own confidence. I struggle with that every day. But just put any Latto record on, and it is hard not to feel like a boss. She is the personification of a powerhouse.”

And Latto backed up Chlöe’s words with a, well, powerful staging of her latest single, “Lottery.”

Becky G later brought”Mamiii” to the stage after she was presented the American Express Impact Award by Dove Cameron, and TWICE capped off the night with a soaring performance of “Moonlight Sunrise.”

Latto Was ‘Reinspired’ By One Thing Lizzo Did While They Were On Tour Together

On Wednesday night, March 1, the Billboard Women In Music Awards came to the YouTube Theater in Inglewood to honor… well… women in music whose past year was outstanding in some way. Among them were music industry standouts like Chlöe, Lana Del Rey, and Rosalía.

One honoree, Latto, who was given the Powerhouse Award, was asked on the red carpet about moments in her career that prompted her to embrace her power. In response, she said, “I get reinspired consistently. Most recently, I was on tour with Lizzo and just seeing how she treats the people around her, how well she takes care of her team, [and] how well she took care of me — even down to my dancers and everyone else on my team — she reinspired me.”

Latto accompanied Lizzo on her Special tour last year as opener after headlining her own tour eariler in the year. Latto’s powerhouse year not only included the two tours but also a huge breakout thanks to her runaway smash single “Big Energy,” putting on a whole new audience’s radar and leading to a Best New Artist Grammy nomination.

SZA Explained Why She Didn’t Write A Speech To Accept The ‘Billboard’ Woman Of The Year Award

SZA had an off day between her February 28 show at Boston’s TD Garden and tonight’s (March 2) show at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on her headlining SOS Tour. Well, SZA has had the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 for 10 nonconsecutive weeks since SOS arrived in December, so her off day was spent at Billboard‘s Women In Music 2023 event in Los Angeles last night.

Unsurprisingly, SZA was there to accept Woman Of The Year. The “Kill Bill” mastermind began by thanking her inner circle, including her parents (who were in attendance), before launching into her improvised speech.

Read it in full below.

“A couple days ago, MeLisa was like, ‘You should probably’ — I was about to go on stage. Every day before I go on stage — I’m on tour right now, but today’s my day off on tour. But [MeLisa] was like, ‘You should take time to write your speech.’ And I’m like, ‘OK,’ and then [I heard], ’10 seconds to stage!’ And I’m like, ‘OK.’ So, I didn’t write anything, but that’s also not who I am. I’m a very off-the-dome kind of person.

I guess what I wanted to say is there’s so many women in this room right now that I respect so deeply. This could have been any of us in the room, whether it’s Lana Del Rey or Olivia Rodrigo or Chlöe or Doechii, who’s a f*cking star. Or Latto. Or even Coi [Leray], my very own Jersey baby.

I think, sometimes, there’s a misconception that everybody always feels like that girl. Like, ‘Oh, I know I’m that b*tch, and I have a lot of confidence.’ And I feel like, it’s OK to not be that person all the time. I used to feel like I didn’t belong because I don’t always feel like that, but I realized that the key is to stay open and available for whatever the universe or God wants to do with your life.

And it’s like, even when you don’t know who you are or you may not see — I don’t know why I’m 10 weeks on [the Billboard 200]! I’m grateful, but I really just want my life to be more than music. To be more than an artist. I wanna serve others. I want to serve people. I want to be open and available to whatever God wants for me. And saying yes to everything that’s scary, to everything that feels like it’s not for you or where you don’t belong is really the only way that we walk through those doors.

So, I just encourage everybody to continue to be inspired and just stay available. You don’t have to be confident. You don’t have to even know that you are the one or anything like that. You just have to say yes to the possibility, and I’m grateful. And thank y’all for saying yes to me. I hope everybody has a blessed night. Thank you very much.”

Chlöe Declared Women Producers Need More Opportunities While Explaining Her Own Production Journey

The Billboard Women In Music Awards took place last night (March 1), using Women’s History Month as a reason to celebrate women in the music industry. A spotlight was on Chlöe, who’s releasing her new album In Pieces soon as well as taking it out on a tour. She was on hand to present Latto with the Powerhouse Award.

“We just need the opportunities,” she said when asked in a red carpet interview how the industry could help women producers. “I definitely think there’s a lot more than who are given opportunities. The reason I got into producing as a young girl was because for sis and I, no producers wants to produce things for a 12- and 10-year-old. So I took matters into my own hands. I always loved math and science and had been a huge nerd with that, so it was fun combining my love of technology and music together. I executive-produced my album dropping in a month and there’s only two songs I didn’t produce.”

Unfortunately, Chlöe has also been at the center of criticism for having a Chris Brown feature for the track “How Does It Feel” on her new album due to his history of harassment, battery, sexual assault, and more. That song is out now as a single.

Watch her full interview above.

In Pieces is out 3/31 via Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records. Pre-save it here.

Latto & Doechii Reportedly Beef Backstage At Billboard Women In Music

Two dominant forces in music right now seem to have gotten in some beef at the Billboard Women In Music awards ceremony. Moreover, Doechii and Latto reportedly exchanged words backstage after Doechii mentioned Nicki Minaj in her speech, who Latto has beef with. At least, that’s how many interpreted the occurrence. Furthermore, Doechii also performed at the event, treating fans with a medley of her tracks “Persuasive” and “Crazy.” Many fell absolutely in love with the performance and gave her flowers on social media. Also, she received the Rising Star award at Wednesday’s (March 1) L.A. event, and her speech might’ve prompted some anger from the 777 rapper.

“Girl, I done danced my shoe off,” the TDE rapper said during her speech after her mother presented her with the award. In addition, she acknowledged the other Rising Star recipients that came before her like Lady Gaga, Janelle Monáe, and of course Nicki Minaj. However, she hinted at her new direction and focus in a Billboard interview ahead of the show. “By year five I want to be at my peak,” she expressed. “I want to be in my Sasha Fierce era, the top of my game with still a long way to go — but I want to reach my prime and never leave it. It’s my pop era. Usually I’m alone [in the studio], but these days I’ve been inviting people in.. So my vibe is kind of changing; it’s a lot of energy. It feels like a party.”

Doechii Performs At Billboard Before Latto Beef

Meanwhile, Latto apparently made fun of that acceptance speech by mentioning other people who won her award as well. While it’s unclear who started off aggressively, things quickly escalated from there according to insider reports. Billboard allegedly asked Latto and her team to leave the premises. As such, many believe that she made the initial approach out of anger at the speech. Still, others maintain that the Rising Star was about to “crack” the “Big Energy” artist for her mockery, so it’s impossible to say for sure. Then, Doechii shared a Live of her singing along to “Barbie Tingz” by Nicki, seemingly leaving a message for Latto at the end. However, many are saying these reports are fake, especially given that Doechii actually posted a video of her cheering Latto on to her Story. Maybe that’s a diss, but one thing’s for sure: the situation’s quite murky.

Of course, if true, it’s incredibly unfortunate to see two female MCs allegedly beef at an event celebrating women in music. Also, it goes contrary to the message of female empowerment and support that Latto recently espoused. This isn’t her only bone to pick at the moment, as rapper VVSNCE also called her out for shade. However, Latto denied any beef on Twitter recently, tweeting “Y’all arms not sore yet from all that REACHING?????????!!!” Also, she included a video of her praising Doechii and an explanation of her speech. With that in mind, let’s hope that these are healable wounds and that misunderstandings become opportunities for growth. However you may feel, check out the two’s speeches and responses down below. Let us know your take in the comments and stick around on HNHH for the latest on Latto and Doechii.
