DDG Warms Halle Bailey’s Heart With A Sweet Gesture Amid Awards Season

One of the worst parts about big awards like the Oscars and the Grammys is seeing how so many talented and deserving individuals don’t get the recognition they deserve based on there only being one winner or only so many nominations. However, there’s nothing like the love and support of family, or of a partner, to make up for this. Moreover, fans expressed a lot of heart-warmed emotions around a video that DDG uploaded on Snapchat of him hosting a personal awards show for his boo, Halle Bailey. He gave her multiple statues for “Best Woman,” “Best Artist,” “Best Partner,” “Best Mother,” and more along with their baby boy Halo, and she actually got quite emotional during this.

Overall, it was quite the wholesome sight to see, and a fitting and deserving celebration of the “In Your Hands” singer. Of course, DDG and Halle Bailey turn this into a two-way street, as they always support and celebrate each other in whatever endeavor they engage in. It’s nice to see them enjoy social media and fan interaction in a more open and fun way these days. Before Halo’s birth, constant nagging and speculation around her pregnancy made it very difficult for them to do pretty much anything else without getting an avalanche of newborn attention.

Regardless, we’re sure that the couple has many more great things to come, whether individually or together. DDG is still working hard to keep his rap career going and expand his portfolio of interests and ventures, whereas Halle will reunite with her sister Chlöe for some new music soon. Whatever they have coming down the pipeline, we’re pretty excited for them to take another step. Still, maybe a nice, quite 2024 wouldn’t hurt either.

Meanwhile, the two are still the subject of a couple of online memes and jokes. Fans had a field day when they clowned how the Detroit MC held his son, and started a viral challenge around it. Although he clapped back at his critics, we hope his sense of humor gave him at least a few chuckles over all this. For more news and the latest updates on DDG and Halle Bailey, keep checking in with HNHH.

Roland Martin Calls Out JAY-Z Over Grammys Speech

Roland Martin called out JAY-Z for his speech at the 2024 Grammy Awards, during which he railed against the Recording Academy while accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. Speaking on his Unfiltered show, Martin argued that the legendary rapper should’ve refused to accept the honor until changes were made at the ceremony to assist hip-hop artists. Martin noted that the rap categories were not broadcast live on TV.

“JAY-Z, if you want the Grammys to change, you should’ve said, ‘I will not accept this award nor will I attend until y’all put one of the rap categories on the televised broadcast,” Martin said. “JAY-Z, Dr. Dre, y’all make it clear, whoever they want to give the award to next year, you make it clear we ain’t showing up unless y’all make the rap album of the year part of the broadcast. I guarantee you it’s gonna cause some folks to say, ‘We better do it or we’re gonna lose the star power… You pull the star power, ratings go down. When ratings go down, they lose money. We know in America, when they lose money, stuff changes.”

On stage, JAY-Z primarily took issue with the Recording Academy never recognizing Beyonce for Album of the Year, despite giving her the most awards in history. “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year,” he said. “So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys; never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work. Obviously, it’s subjective because it’s music. It’s opinion-based. Some of you are going to go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed– some of you don’t belong in the category.” Check out Martin’s response to the comments below.

Travis Scott Brings Playboi Carti Out For Grammy Performance

Travis Scott brought out Playboi Carti at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday night for a performance on his songs “Fein” and “My Eyes.” In doing so, he brought rage-filled energy to the stage alongside flamethrowers and strobe lights. While on stage, Scott shouted, “They slept on me 10 times!”

The performance came after Scott lost the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album to Killer Mike’s Michael. Other nominees in the category included Metro Boomin (HEROES & VILLAINS), Nas (King’s Disease III), and Drake & 21 Savage (Her Loss). It marked Scott’s 10th losing nomination over the course of his career. He’s still yet to win. Unsurprisingly, his fans were furious with the result. “Travis Scott deserved this one especially after the grammys disaster of 2018,” one argued on Twitter.

Best Rap Album wasn’t the only honor Killer Mike took home at the ceremony. He also won Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance with his track “Scientists & Engineers.” It’s the first time he’s won a Grammy since 2003, when he took home Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for his work on Outkast’s “The Whole World.” The night wasn’t all positive for Mike. After accepting his awards, he was seen being taken out of the venue in handcuffs by police. The arrest reportedly stemmed from a misdemeanor battery charge regarding an incident that took place outside the Crypto.com arena. Check out Travis Scott’s performance at the Grammys below.

Nicki Minaj Congratulates Lil Wayne For His BMI Icon Award: “Genius & Leader”

Lil Wayne wasn’t the only thankful person when it came to his recently-received BMI Icon Award. “Of course, thanks [to] my family,” he remarked gratefully on stage as he received cheers, applause, and the music rights organization’s highest honor. “My people, my Young Money family, who are family, as well. But, most importantly, it’s all about the fans. So, if you are a fan or a supporter of myself, I appreciate you. Please know that I pray for you every day.”

Another appreciative message related to this award, however, thanks its honoree for his hard work and impact on the game. None other than Nicki Minaj, one of the New Orleans legend’s protégés, expressed her gratitude in a video. “Where do I begin?” the Queen began. “You know what, I just wanna say, I so greatly appreciate your contributions that you have made to the culture of rap. Thank you for all of the inspiring things you’ve said to me personally to make me want to go super duper hard. Thank you for just always being the genius you are and the leader you are.”

The Queen Thanks Lil Wayne For His Legacy & Motivation

“As a legend and superstar of hip-hop, Lil Wayne is synonymous with the genre,” the company stated. “He’s been part of the BMI family since 2002, and we’re proud to name him a BMI Icon in keeping with his reputation as one of the most influential artists of all time.” With over twenty years under his belt, Weezy is most certainly deserving of this high honor, whether for his artistry, entrepreneurial spirit, or efforts in philanthropy. What’s more is that, even with his extensive, prolific, and monumental history in mind, it’s not over yet.

Moreover, Tunechi recently released the track “Kat Food,” which hopefully hints at Tha Carter VI arriving soon as he had teased. Whether it ends up shaping out remains to be seen, and we know that releasing Carters is sometimes easier said than done for the 40-year-old. At least his feature game never slowed down, so there’s always new Wayne to spin. For more news and the latest updates on Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, stay posted on HNHH.

Lil Wayne & Ice Spice Honored By BMI With Groundbreaking Awards

Lil Wayne & Ice Spice were among the two biggest winners at Broadcast Music, Inc.’s (BMI’s) 2023 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards in Miami last night (September 6). Moreover, the Young Money spitter received the Icon Award, adding to his four-time honors of being their Songwriter of the Year. With now 53 awards from the prestigious ceremony across his career, he joins other BMI Icons like Snoop Dogg, Janet Jackson, and more legends. In fact, NLE Choppa, Big Freedia, Bobby V, and Trombone Shorty tributed the New Orleans MC during the show. This adds to Weezy’s acclaimed and prolific awards record, which also includes five Grammys- including Best Rap Album in 2009 for Tha Carter III.

Meanwhile, BMI graced Ice Spice with its first-ever Impact Award at their ceremony, and it’s no surprise that the Bronx hitmaker is the first to receive this honor. After all, her meteoric rise is hard to replicate and even harder to see at the same level for any artist before here. All this contributed to meaningful, compelling, and well-deserved reflections of (and tributes to) hip-hop on its 50th anniversary year.

Lil Wayne Receives Icon Award

Other winners from the BMIs include Tay Keith and Lil Yachty, who won the Producer of the Year award. Songwriter of the Year was a tie as well, as it went to not only Chris Brown, but also Doja Cat and Tems. On the other hand, Lizzo won Song of the Year for “About Damn Time.” Overall, it was quite the engaging show with a lot of interesting awards, although that’s nothing new for Ice Spice and Tunechi.

Of course, they each won prestigious honors at the Billboard 2023 R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players event. While the 40-year-old received an induction into their Hip-Hop Hall of Fame alongside Nas, the “Barbie World” sensation won her first solo award as the organization’s Rookie of the Year. “Ahh, this is cr*zy!” she briefly remarked while thanking those who got her to this point on stage. “This is like my first award ever in life, so I’m super proud.” For more news and the latest updates on Ice Spice and Lil Wayne, come back to HNHH.

Snoop Dogg Calls Out Grammys For Lack Of Recognition

Snoop Dogg called out the Recording Academy on Instagram, Monday, for his lack of success at the Grammys. He shared a list of the rappers with the five most wins: Jay-Z, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Pharrell. He then complained about having yet to win a single Grammy.

“Snoop dogg. 20 nominations. 0 wins,” Snoop captioned the list. Snoop currently holds the most nominations for a winless rapper. Other artists in the same boat include 2Pac, Biggie, Nicki Minaj, DMX, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, and Pusha T. Snoop has received nominations for Album of the Year twice. Once came for his contributions to Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. Another came for his work on Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream. His 2014 album, Reincarnated, was also up for Best Reggae Album.

Despite being the most decorated hip-hop artist in Grammys history, Jay-Z has had plenty of issues with the Recording Academy over the years. He even dissed the Grammys on his and Beyoncé‘s Everything Is Love track, “Apeshit.” He rapped, “Tell the Grammy’s fuck that 0 for eight shit.” His album 4:44 had just gone winless at the Grammys. Jay-Z reflected on the Grammys‘ problems during an interview for Tidal on Monday. He also discussed his reaction to Beyoncé losing Album of the Year.

“The truth is, we grew up wanting to be on the Grammys, and it was our goal. We just want them to get it right. That’s what we want. Obviously it’s music and it’s all subjective, but you got to be in the ballpark. That’s all we want. We just want them to get it right because we love it so much,” he said. “For the culture, I love this shit so much I want them to get it right. I want to experience those moments when it’s the culmination of when Michael popped off. That moment left an indelible mark on us forever.” Check out Snoop Dogg’s post on Instagram tomorrow.
