Cardi B Thinks Joe Budden ‘Has An Issue’ With Her After His Harsh Criticism Of ‘Bongos’

Joe Budden may have finally gotten a plaque for his big hit of the 2000s, “Pump It Up,” but it seems he’s still better known for his biting criticism. His latest target is Cardi B’s new single “Bongos,” which features Megan Thee Stallion and a dembow beat that showcases Cardi’s Latin roots. However, Budden didn’t think much of the song, prompting Cardi to muse on Instagram, “I just feel like he has an issue with me.”

On the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, the former rapper said “Bongos” sounds like “a science project” and criticized it for being formulaic (despite the song sounding like little else in hip-hop). “This beat is undeniable because it’s already worked,” he allowed, but said, “We gonna put two of our biggest women rappers on it, talking they normal s*it, but I don’t think this song is gonna work at all.”

He then went a step further, declaring, “I hate the song. It’s not better than any of the songs like it. ‘WAP,’ ‘Up,’ it’s not better than Cardi B [features]. This is Cardi getting ready to follow-up her debut album… They not gonna spend the money to keep this rolling into the fourth and first quarter… This sounds like two women who can’t make a song.” This is a 180-degree reversal from his previous comments about Cardi (although they were consistent with comments about Megan`).

In response, Cardi pointed out her belief that Budden is being hypocritical; while he’s always quick to deman other artists’ work, he takes offense at any criticism of his own work and business ethics. “It was beyond the critique of ‘Bongos,’” she noted. “When Mal and Rory say f*ck sh*t about you, you get so defensive and you want to clear it up. You came at Taxstone because Taxstone said something about you. You expect people to understand you and you expect people to take your side.”

Cardi’s not the only rapper to have issues with Budden. In 2019 and 2020 he feuded with Logic until apologizing in the wake of Logic’s revelations about suicidal thoughts. Last year, Budden said he hated Earl Sweatshirt’s new album, to which Earl responded by laughing at him, attributing his vitriol to bitterness that his own music has done … well … horribly. He also apologized to Megan Thee Stallion over making insensitive jokes about her getting shot by Tory Lanez.

And hey, at least none of those rappers were ever accused of violently beating women or sexual harassment of former employees. I’m also willing to bet he’s wrong about “Bongos,” which was never meant to be “WAP” in the first place.

Joe Budden’s “Pump It Up” Finally Certified Gold, Fans Wonder Why It Took So Long

There are some readers out there who probably didn’t know that Joe Budden was actually a rapper back in the day. Of course, that’s owed to just how influential, prolific, well-respected, and present his work as a media commentator and content creator has been. However, the New York City native once took over airwaves with his hit 2003 single, “Pump It Up,” which to this day is his most successful release. In fact, many fans expressed their shock at the fact that it was only just recently that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the track as gold. That means that it sold 500,000 copies, and fans suspect something’s fishy.

“It took him 20 yrs to go gold?” one fan commented under coverage of Joe Budden’s most recent commercial milestone. “I don’t believe it because I wore that s**t out! Y’all shady af for posting this either way…” another added. In addition, others came through with more analytical reasoning for why this hit song wasn’t more commercially successful before. “Joe Budden dropped in the era of limewire; that song would have went platinum if they could have counted streams or people weren’t downloading illegally,” a fan wrote.

However, this isn’t the only problem that the 43-year-old (may) have with the industry. We don’t know whether this even fazes him, but in 2023 in particular, Joe Budden has a bone to pick with the higher-ups at the labels. “Y’all don’t think it’s a little odd,” he begins, “that without Nas and Jesse Collins, without Mass Appeal and Jesse Collins, we don’t get a tribute [to hip-hop’s 50th anniversary]? Y’all are the ones that was supposed to do that,” he remarked on his podcast.

Meanwhile, maybe one day the former Complex host will pick up the mic again to comment on these issues or fix his grievances from the inside. Until then, though, he has a great foundation of media platforms to express himself in. With or without a gold record, it’s undeniable how much he contributed to the culture over the past decade. On that note, stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Joe Budden.

Gillie Da Kid & Joe Budden Resolve Their Beef, Hint At Upcoming Podcast Together

Joe Budden and Gillie Da Kid are two of the most respected and well-known hip-hop media figures, and are both great rappers in their own right. However, for quite some time now, beef and bickering got in between them. For hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, though, it looks like the two and Gillie’s Million Dollaz Worth Of Game co-host Wallo267 are setting all that aside. In a new clip, they all teased an upcoming podcast episode where they will all sit down and talk about the game, their history, and probably a lot more. All in all, it’s quite exciting news not just for fans of this kind of content, but for people who want to see more beefs get squashed in rap music.

After all, it’s a phenomenon that social media has taken full advantage of through clout-chasing and how it boosts sales. In fact, it’s been a common trend for feuds to raise album sales and interest in artists for generations, so it’s not new by any means. For those unaware, Joe Budden and Gillie got into it over fame and wealth, Budden’s past, and their podcasts’ success and controversies. While there’s still a lot to discuss and correct there, it’s heartening to see that it’ll be a dialogue, not an argument.

Furthermore, Wallo spoke in the clip of the importance and weight behind this particular team-up. “This is what you look like when you’re two rappers and it’s over,” he remarked, still keeping up with their cheeky banter when Joe Budden pulled up to Gillie’s home. “We celebrating the 50th year of hip-hop, these is two ancient dinosaurs of hip-hop. This n***a made $3,700 his whole rap career. Joe probably made about $77,000.”

Meanwhile, given how outspoken Budden in particular has been about hip-hop’s 50th, we’re sure that’ll be an important part of the conversation. Media like this aims to analyze, assess, and contribute a compelling and entertaining view of the art form we love. Considering the sheer talent between the three of them, it’s amazing that their three heads will come together to make something special. Joe Budden Comments On Ebro’s Hip-Hop 50 Thoughts

Earlier this week, Hot 97 host Ebro took to Twitter to explain some thoughts he had on the 50th anniversary of rap. “Making all this $$$ because of HipHop and artists can’t even post a ‘Thank You’ …” he wrote in a post. Debate among fans erupted in the comments immediately as they tried to break down what Ebro meant and how accurate his comments were. Many fans pointed out just how many events there have been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the genre while others pointed out how many majors contemporary rappers have yet to acknowledge it.

Now, Joe Budden is providing his own response. Ebro’s original comments were reposted on Instagram by 2Cool2Bl0g which is where it caught Budden’s attention. In the comments of the post, Budden responded to the situation. “Funny, i said this same thing about the labels lol,” his reply reads. In response to Budden’s comment many fans pointed out his willingness to say something that others wouldn’t. “u are probably the only person in your position that’s going to say that. Ebro isn’t going to play that game,” says one comment. “rare W for you, pal..” says another.

Joe Budden Gives His Take On Ebro’s Comments

Joe Budden is no stranger to giving his opinions on divisive issues. He found himself in hot water recently for dismissing some of the allegations against Lizzo. The singer is facing a lawsuit claiming that she created a hostile work environment. “It felt like the accusations were coming from people who expected Disneyworld and got like regular, hip-hop music industry s**t,” Budden explained.

Joe Budden also said that he is “scared sh*tless” of the new Drake album. After hearing his recent collaboration with Central Cee, Budden was worried that Drake’s new project wouldn’t be predominately rap focused. What do you think of Joe Budden’s comment responding to Ebro? Let us know who you think is right in the comment section below.

Joe Budden On Lizzo: “That’s Celebrities!”

It was only a matter of time before podcaster Joe Budden joined in on the discourse surrounding Lizzo’s sexual harassment and hostile workplace lawsuit. As you’ve likely heard, the body-positive artist is facing serious backlash for allegedly pressuring past employees into sexual acts at an Amsterdam strip club, firing them due to weight gain, and acting aggressively toward them, among other things. In a recent statement, the Detroit native shut down most of the gossip. Still, some were left dissatisfied with her response.

On Friday (August 11), Joe Budden TV‘s YouTube lit up with a new video discussing current events. Of course, Lizzo’s troubling case was at the top of the list. “I witnessed how arrogant, self-centred, and unkind she is,” the host read out loud when sharing the story of a director who previously worked with the “Truth Hurts” hitmaker. “Well, that’s celebrities,” Budden said with a laugh as his co-hosts agreed. “When I was reading all of this s**t, it sounded like regular music industry s**t to me. Maybe that’s not a good thing, I don’t know,” another voice in the room pointed out.

Joe Budden and Co-Hosts Speak on Lizzo Allegations

“It felt like the accusations were coming from people who expected Disneyworld and got like regular, hip-hop music industry s**t,” they added. Others shared that the banana sex club escapades are what left them feeling unsure of which side to take. “It sounds like there was peer pressure involved,” someone suggested. Another added that the dancers also likely feared that they would lose their jobs if they decided to say no to Lizzo’s Amsterdam antics. Ultimately, Budden feels that the issue lies in the fact that the women worked together, and being in an NSFW environment with her employees put the embattled entertainer in a position of power over them.

Lizzo fans who don’t want to believe the allegations could be true have been anxiously awaiting more updates. Unfortunately, they came in the form of more past employees sharing their own negative experiences working with the Special singer. Read what others have been saying about Lizzo at the link below. Make sure to check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Joe Budden Thinks People Are Overreacting To “Try That In A Small Town”

“Try That In A Small Town” is currently the most-discussed song around. Sitting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song is by far the biggest hit of singer Jason Aldean’s career. However, the song has proven controversial as it has faced accusations of promoting racist ideals as well as advocating for the idea of vigilante justice. Meanwhile, Jason Aldean has lamented that he has become the victim of “cancel culture”. This is despite, again, his song being literally #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

However, Joe Budden doesn’t see the problems others have expressed about the song. “I don’t see a bunch of Black people burnin’ up flags — that’s some white people shit,” Budden said on his podcast. “Do I think that dude could be on bullshit? Yes. I do. Let me be clear. I do think that.” He continued: “The emotional outrage? I’m over it. If he’s not saying n-gger, or killing some Black people in the video, then them n-ggas can do what the fuck they want to in their small town. Because they’re going to always frame it as, ‘I’m speaking from the perspective of the small town over here.’”

The problem with Budden’s take is that it’s exactly what people like Aldean want people to say. “Try That In A Small Town” employs a rhetorical device known as a dog whistle to convey its message. Dog whistles are coded messages that sound innocuous but hold a specific meaning to certain groups of people. However, because the message isn’t said explicitly and is instead expressed sub-textually, it gives the speaker a level of plausible deniability. Because yes, Aldean’s song doesn’t explicitly say the n-word or have a lyric talking about lynching people. However, it still alludes to these concepts. A large portion of the “video “Try That In A Small Town” video is shot in front of the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee. It’s an innocuous location that has been used as a filming location for many projects.

However, it is also the location of several prominent lynchings. It was also a focal point of the 1946 Columbia Race Riots. The video also contains newspaper clippings of a white man being run out of town for objecting to anti-Black policies. Meanwhile, the lyrics allude to a form of vigilante justice that was, and still is, weaponized against Black individuals in the American South. Sundown towns are still very much a thing in parts of America. Furthermore, in interviews, Aldean has alluded to things such as the BLM protests of 2020, which appear in the video as part of news reels. However, several sections of that “news footage” is actually stock footage shot outside the United States. In short, “it isn’t explicitly racist” doesn’t mean something is not racist.

Joe Budden Speaks On Chingy And Young Buck’s Alleged Relationships With Trans Women

During a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Budden discussed some recent allegations against Dwight Howard. The pro basketball player allegedly sent some NSFW texts to a male model, requesting that he send him “d*ck pics.” The conversation ended up sparking a discussion on some other allegations that have arisen in the past involving Young Buck and Chingy.

“I give the benefit of the doubt to people that have a special place in my heart, and I’m wrong every time,” Budden says. “Every time I gave it to Dwight Howard, I’m wrong. I gave it to Chingy, super wrong. I gave it to Young Buck — couldn’t be more wrong about that.” He continues, “I gave it to Bobby Valentino, smacked me up in the head again. N***as like f*cking transgenders, that’s the bottom line. When are we going to stop giving entertainers the benefit of the doubt? They be doing that sh*t.”

Joe Budden Says “N***as Like F***ing” Trans People

Young Buck claimed to have nearly slept with a trans woman in 2021, though he said he “got the f*ck out of the room” before things went further. “Me, at the time, thinking with my d*ck, I smashed over there thinking I’m gonna smash on this b*tch and walk in the situation,” he explained. Young Buck continued, “It wasn’t even me knowing what the person was at the time, it was me feeling like, hold on, this is a f*cking robbery or set-up because when I realized, ‘Hold on, that ain’t the same muthaf*cka that’s been in the video.’” Obviously, the situation could be handled with a bit more tact, as the language used by most parties involved has been pretty insensitive.

As for Chingy, he claimed that his rumored relationship with trans personality Sidney Starr took a negative toll on his music career. According to Starr, Chingy “didn’t know [she] was transgender,” when he met her as a fan. She went on to apologize for claiming the two of them had a secret relationship.

Joe Budden Is “Scared Sh*tless” Of Upcoming Drake Album

Earlier this year Drake dropped a new poetry book called Titles Ruin Everything and in tandem with that announcement, he confirmed he has a new album coming soon. As shows on he and 21 Savage’s “It’s All A Blur” Tour have gone by fans have received more and more information about the project. He’s shared that the album is called For All The Dogs and after an initially unclear timeline, he made it clear the project is coming soon. He also confirmed at a recent show that 21 Savage has his own new album coming soon as well.

One person who isn’t convinced about For All The Dogs yet is Joe Budden. In a new episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, he shared his thoughts. Budden updates fans on how he’s feeling about the album following Drake’s recently released “On The Radar” freestyle with Central Cee. “That Central Cee freestyle has frightened me and scared the living sh*t out of me,” he explained. “That freestyle scared the living sh*t out of me as to what to expect from Drake’s next project.” He expanded on his hope that there will be more conventional rapping on For All The Dogs. “I don’t wanna hear none of that Calypso rapping sh*t. No disrespect, I know Central Cee is him over there, and he smoked that. They both killed it. I don’t wanna hear none of that sh*t on the next Drake project.”

Joe Budden “Scared” Of Drake Album

The “It’s All A Blur” Tour is officially record-breaking. During a stop in Washington earlier this week they generated over $5 million in a single night. Drake and 21 Savage became the first rappers ever to earn that much in a single night on tour. Drake also grabbed headlines for his appearance on Travis Scott’s UTOPIA. The frequent collaborators teamed up on the song “MELTDOWN.” Many think that in the lyrics he takes shots at both Pusha T and Pharrell.

Do you agree with Joe Budden’s thoughts on For All The Dogs? Let us know in the comment section below.

Joe Budden Refuses To Take A Side On Beef Between Jim Jones And Pusha T

Pusha T and Jim Jones are currently beefing. Pusha fired the first shots with some deep cuts about Jones in a song that debuted at Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton show in Paris. At first, Jones was content to dismiss the diss as “cute”. However, he responded a few days later, dropping a track of his own. In his, the Dipset member compared Pusha and No Malice to slaves.

Furthermore, he masterfully suggested that Pusha T didn’t know what a rap beef is. “The only beef you know n***a, is the Arby’s or the Big Mac,” Jones proclaimed. Now Joe Budden has given his thoughts on the feud. It’s to be expected, as Budden likes to keep his finger on the pulse of the rap scene.

Budden Opts To Stay Neutral

“Now let me be objective and do my job the right way,” he said. “I’m torn here like Latoya Luckett. Boy, am I torn. On one hand I know to leave Push it to you alone. Retired me active me if you were gonna if I were ever gonna—I would get at that n***a actually—but boy would I be respectful of my approach,” he continued. “I’d have to lead with the jab, set them up have had a lot of thought would go into it it wouldn’t be the body it wouldn’t be as reckless at because Pusha T is a methodical man outside of rapping he is a methodical thinking, planning man.”

Budden went on to explain that he knows that Jones respects Pusha T’s game. However, he also acknowledged that Jones needs to step carefully. This is because Pusha is a “pain and a headache” to rap against. Despite this, Budden is playing the Switzerland card and staying neutral. However, while he doesn’t have a dog in the fight, he did express his hopes that the beef stays about music and doesn’t become personal or overly disrespectful.
