Joe Budden Turns Down Nicki Minaj’s Offer To Perform On “Pink Friday 2” Tour: “I Ain’t Hype No More!”

Joe Budden says that he’s not going to accept Nicki Minaj’s invite to perform with her on the Pink Friday 2 World Tour and that he’s no longer in shape to do so. He discussed Nicki reaching out to him on a recent episode of his self-titled podcast. She apparently wanted him to perform “Pump It Up” as a special guest at her concert in his home state of New Jersey.

“I thought about it,” Budden admitted. When asked why he ended up saying no, he explained: “It ain’t the words; it’s my body. I gotta go out there and act hype, I ain’t hype no more! I didn’t let Jersey down.” When the clip made its way to Instagram, fans called on Budden to accept the offer. “Joe you be hype AF on that couch. Put the couch on the stage and go do it,” one user wrote. Another added: “I wish he had done it.”

Budden wouldn’t have been the first special guest Nicki has welcomed to the stage during her tour. She recently brought out hometown legend 50 Cent when she traveled to New York City’s Madison Square Garden. They performed their Pink Friday 2 collaboration “Beep Beep,” as well as 50’s classic hit, “Candy Shop.” 50 also seemingly trolled Diddy during the performance, telling the audience he loves them even if they are sex workers. Sharing that moment on Instagram afterward, he added in the caption: “I love you, you and you even if your a little sex workers, love ya it’s all love. The Barbz are out holding it down!”

Joe Budden Turned Down Nicki Minaj's Request to Perform "Pump It Up"

Joe Budden could have hit the Madison Square Garden stage and delivered a “Pump It Up” performance.

During the recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Budden revealed Nicki Minaj reached out to him to perform his hit during her Pink Friday Tour stop in NYC. Budden denied it because he doesn’t know if he has the “hype” in him.

“Nicki hit me last night,” Budden said. “She hit me when she was about to go on in Jersey. I was home. She didn’t say, ‘Yo, come out to Jersey’ and do that. She was 30 minutes from going on stage, and she hit me. I said, ‘I want to go to the New York show.’ And she said, ‘Yeah, you’re gonna come out and do ‘Pump it Up.’”

Regarding rejecting the offer, Budden said, “I gotta go out there and act hype, and I don’t know, I ain’t hype no more.”

Speaking with his cohost Parks, Budden revealed his last stage performance was in 2016.

Drake Trolls Joe Budden, Nicki Minaj Invites Podcaster To Perform Throwback Hit

Drake still has yet to respond to the shade thrown at him by his “Poetic Justice” collaborator Kendrick Lamar with a diss track of his own. This is leaving some to wonder if he’ll ever have any bars to spit about what went down between them. Interestingly, the father of one is still very active on social media. Specifically, he wasn’t afraid to poke fun at another opp of his – Joe Budden. On Saturday (March 30), Drizzy’s Instagram Story lit up with a snapshot of the podcaster wearing some seriously baggy sweatpants.

To complete his fit, Budden added a black hoodie, a shiny puffer jacket in the same colour, crisp white sneakers and a hat that reads, “FREE.” The Canadian’s trolling comes after his most recent performance in New York City, where he got some frustrations off his chest during “Energy.” On the picture of JB, Drake wrote, “What’s the vibes NY?!?” suggesting he was on the hunt for a fun way to spend his Easter weekend.

While Drake continues to troll Budden, Nicki Minaj is surprisingly putting their differences aside to show him love. The Queen of Rap invited her fellow artist to perform during her concert in New Jersey recently, specifically requesting “Pump It Up.” When the 43-year-old shared the news on his internet show, co-hosts and fans were disappointed in Budden for turning down the incredible opportunity. “I ain’t hype no more,” he simply said.

“That was a real song?” one IG user asked in @theshaderoom’s comments. “I thought it was just for ‘You Got Served’ 😭😭,” they laughed. “I’m not gonna lie… If you’re a kid you won’t understand how fire this would have been!! My 34-year-old ass WOULD HAVE BEEN GEEKED!!! I’m mad he said no!” another person admitted. Would you like to see Joe Budden do “Pump It Up” live? Joe Budden’s “Pump It Up” Finally Certified Gold, Fans Wonder Why It Took So Long

There are some readers out there who probably didn’t know that Joe Budden was actually a rapper back in the day. Of course, that’s owed to just how influential, prolific, well-respected, and present his work as a media commentator and content creator has been. However, the New York City native once took over airwaves with his hit 2003 single, “Pump It Up,” which to this day is his most successful release. In fact, many fans expressed their shock at the fact that it was only just recently that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the track as gold. That means that it sold 500,000 copies, and fans suspect something’s fishy.

“It took him 20 yrs to go gold?” one fan commented under coverage of Joe Budden’s most recent commercial milestone. “I don’t believe it because I wore that s**t out! Y’all shady af for posting this either way…” another added. In addition, others came through with more analytical reasoning for why this hit song wasn’t more commercially successful before. “Joe Budden dropped in the era of limewire; that song would have went platinum if they could have counted streams or people weren’t downloading illegally,” a fan wrote.

However, this isn’t the only problem that the 43-year-old (may) have with the industry. We don’t know whether this even fazes him, but in 2023 in particular, Joe Budden has a bone to pick with the higher-ups at the labels. “Y’all don’t think it’s a little odd,” he begins, “that without Nas and Jesse Collins, without Mass Appeal and Jesse Collins, we don’t get a tribute [to hip-hop’s 50th anniversary]? Y’all are the ones that was supposed to do that,” he remarked on his podcast.

Meanwhile, maybe one day the former Complex host will pick up the mic again to comment on these issues or fix his grievances from the inside. Until then, though, he has a great foundation of media platforms to express himself in. With or without a gold record, it’s undeniable how much he contributed to the culture over the past decade. On that note, stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Joe Budden.
