Tory Lanez Song, “The Color Violet” Enters Billboard Hot 100

Tory Lanez is one of the most controversial artists in the world right now. On December 23, he was found guilty for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020.

However, it seems as though the “Say It” artist is still receiving plenty of streams from behind bars.

On Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart dated for the week of January 14, 2023, one of the Canadian artist’s singles, “The Color Violet,” makes a new appearance at #87. Furthermore, Lanez himself appears on the Billboard Global 200 chart for artists, at #122 there.

The 30-year-old dropped “The Color Violet” in 2021, as the fourth track off of his sixth studio album, Alone At Prom. The project features distinct ’80s-inspired production.

Of course, this news comes just a few weeks after Lanez’s guilty verdict in the Megan Thee Stallion trial. The jury is responsible for declaring him guilty of all three charges against him. This includes carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, assault with a semiautomatic handgun and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

However, new reports indicate that the Chixtape rapper has fired his attorney. He’s hiring Suge Knight’s former lawyer, David Kenner, as his replacement.

“Kenner is a longtime criminal defense attorney whose clients include former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight. Anyone with actual experience in criminal law (not all lawyers) will tell you he’s joining the case a bit late: Before trial would have been better,” says legal reporter Meghann Cuniff in a tweet.

Earlier today, TMZ began circulating photos of the “Savage” rapper’s injured foot from the shooting. The set of photos also includes x-rays of her injury, as well as images of a bloody suitcase in the backseat of the vehicle where the incident occurred.

The sentencing was originally set to take place soon, on January 27. However, the hiring of his new attorney may cause a delay now. The Toronto native faces up to 22 years in years in prison.

Ab-Soul Gets Candid In New Interview

When it comes to hip-hop music from the 2010s, Ab-Soul is one of that era’s household names. His second studio album, 2012’s Control System, was one of the most popular projects that year, thanks to tracks like “Illuminate” and “Terrorist Threats.”

After years of absence, he returned late last year to drop his latest album, HERBERT. It serves as his first project in six years, since 2016’s Do What Thou Wilt.

On Tuesday (January 10), XXL published their new interview with the “DO BETTER” rapper. The 35-year-old talks about a range of topics including his new album and his struggles with mental health.

HERBERT is arguably the TDE rapper’s most intimate and expressive album of his career thus far. “The album Herbert is about getting back to self. I just kinda feel like I was becoming Ab-Soul more than Herbert. So, this album, to say the least, is dedicated to the people that refuse to call me Ab-Soul. That still call me Herbert or Herbie or Herb. It’s about getting back to the roots. Getting back to the foundation, to the source. Getting back to self,” says the L.A. native when asked about the meaning of the project’s title.

“This album, I really removed my ego and asked for help. Nobody’s bigger than the program. I asked for help. I didn’t just go pick beats or records,” he tells XXL. Elsewhere in the interview, he addresses substance abuse and mental health in society.

Ab-Soul is evidently not holding back when it comes to the rollout of his fifth studio album. In a prior recent interview with Charlamagne Tha God, the L.A. native even opens up about a suicide attempt.

“My jaw is f*cked up. I got a lotta work to do still. I’m about 85% on my foot. My foot is completely reconstructed, all the way to my pelvis, my femur, everything, was affected except my knee. If my knee would’ve been affected, I might not be walking,” he shares to Charlamagne.

Furthermore, on December 30, he took to his Twitter account to proudly declare HERBERT as a top-five album of 2022. “ALSO. My album IS top 5 of da year. F*cc all dat humble sh*t. Dead homies,” writes the 35-year-old in his tweet.

Regardless, it’s certainly great to see and hear Soulo opening up so candidly.

However, the 28-year-old has recently been wrapped up in some controversy. It all began when a video started surfacing on social media of the “Me Porto Bonito” artist walking around in the Dominican Republic. The footage shows him seemingly having a good time with some fans and taking pictures with them. However, he grabs one girl’s phone from her hand and aggressively throws it away.

Of course, he has since responded to his controversial action. “The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect. Those who come to put a phone in my face, I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect and I will treat it like one,” writes the superstar in his translated tweet.

On Monday (January 9), the Puerto Rico native took to his Twitter account to share a mysterious message. His bio now reads, “me van a extrañar,” which directly translates to “they will miss me” in English. Although the Twitter account is still public, he has changed his Instagram account to be on private mode.

It certainly seems as though some fans agree with his actions, while others are arguing it was unnecessary. Regardless of your thoughts, it’s certainly causing lots of conversations online.

The Mr. Davis rapper did drop three albums last year. However, they all serve as compilation tapes with artists on his label, 1017 Records. The most recent of which is December’s monstrous So Icy Boyz: The Finale, which contains four discs and 80 songs featuring the likes of BIG30, Sett, the late Big Scarr and others.

Kodak dropped two full-length releases last year, Back For Everything and Kutthroat Bill: Vol. 1. The former features his most recent hit, “Super Gremlin.” Additionally, the Florida native makes a couple of appearances on Kendrick‘s latest offering, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

The forthcoming song will serve as the duo’s sixth time officially appearing on the same track together. The first of which is on “Vibin In This Bih,” which is off of Kodak’s 2016 project, Lil Big Pac. They also both make an appearance on a DJ Khaled song from 2017, “Pull a Caper,” alongside Rick Ross. Most famously though, the two collaborated on the Atlanta native’s 2018 smash hit, “Wake Up in the Sky” with Bruno Mars.

Additionally, he’s teasing a new collaboration with one of the hottest rappers in the game right now, GloRilla. In the clip, the two Memphis artists are seen turning up to a snippet of their unreleased track together. “Santana and Joyner Lucas. I’m not even gon’ say no other names. O.M.G. We In Motion on the f*cking way,” he exclaims as the drill beat plays in the background. Considering he’s not mentioning the names of any other artists, it will certainly be interesting to see who else will be featuring on the tape.

The Dipset rapper announced the new mixtape in an Instagram post on Christmas Day. It’s set to serve as his first full-length offering following his release from prison in August of 2020. The Harlem native was behind bars for a year and a half on gun charges.

It’s been nearly three years since we last got a full-length project from the 40-year-old. 2020’s #FREESANTANA boasts features from the likes of 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Jim Jones and more. It dropped while he was still serving his time in prison.

Furthermore, DJ Drama has certainly been busy lately. Last year alone, he hosted several projects, including Icewear Vezzo‘s latest offering, Paint the City and Jeezy‘s SNOFALL. Reese LAFLARE Reacts To News Outlet Using His Photo Instead Of Young Thug’s

YSL’s RICO trial has been looming over the music industry ever since the arrest of Young Thug and others in May of last year.

There have been countless reports and updates on the case over these past months. However, none of this prevented a news outlet from making a critical mistake in one of their latest articles on the trial.

In the since-deleted tweet, FOX26 Houston reports on the upcoming RICO trial. “Rapper Young Thug, accused by prosecutors of co-founding a criminal street gang responsible for violent crimes and using his songs and social media to promote it, is set to go to trial starting Monday,” writes the network in the post.

While this information is certainly accurate, the article’s accompanying photo is not of Thugger. It’s instead a picture of a different Atlanta rapper, Reese LAFLARE. “Stop using my picture,” the “No Hook” rapper writes in response after seeing his photo wrongly attributed to the case.

LAFLARE went on to show his support for the So Much Fun rapper, tweeting out “Free Jeffery” multiple times. “I mean [I] do have a YSL chain on in the pic but cmon now,” he writes afterwards. He ends it by simply tweeting, “I need a Lawyer.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only case of a news network getting it wrong when reporting on rappers. Just a few weeks ago, ABC accidentally put a photo of Quavo rather than Takeoff in their year-end “In-Memorium” segment. When the tribute for the “Casper” rapper appeared on the screen, it was instead a photo of his uncle.

What are your thoughts on the situation? Comment down below. Finally, make sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest stories and updates.

XXXTENTACION Murder Trial: New Incriminating Evidence Allegedly Found

It’s been nearly five years since XXXTENTACION’s tragic murder. Ever since, authorities have been working tirelessly to solve the case.

There were originally three arrest warrants out for alleged suspects. However, one of them, Dedrick D. Williams, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. This was not even two weeks after the murder took place.

Although there are a few other people of interest in the case, it certainly seems as though authorities believe Williams really is responsible. A new update from AllHipHop indicates that a new piece of evidence may solidify this.

Prosecutors allegedly believe that they are connecting the murder weapon to the discovery of a live round in Williams’ home. Additionally, they’re reportedly saying his phone pinged at the murder scene a mere one minute prior to the fatal shooting. Of course, this would be RIVA Motorsports in Florida.

The prosecutors also claim to have video footage of the suspect carelessly tossing around $100 bills just a couple of days after the murder. The “SAD!” artist was robbed of about $50,000 in cash at the scene.

This obviously doesn’t look good for Williams and his defence. His legal team is pulling out all of the stops in an attempt to free him though. Just a few weeks ago, his attorneys listed a number of high-profile names as potential witnesses. Among them are 6ix9ine, Joe Budden and Drake.

Furthermore, they really want the latter to testify in the case, alleging that he may somehow be responsible for X’s murder. Of course, the pair of artists were involved in a beef for a number of years. The Florida artist was responsible for accusing the Toronto star of stealing his flow. This was famously on his 2017 track, “KMT” with Giggs.

The murder trial will begin later this month. Finally, make sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates surrounding the case and any other pop culture news.

On Thursday (January 5), however, reports began to circulate that police were arresting their lead singer. While in New York City, the police department are responsible for arresting and charging Matt Schultz with criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the Daily Mail, it all began when police received a call after a hotel employee reportedly witnessed him carrying a gun into a public restroom on Wednesday night (January 4).

The following day, authorities showed up at his room and Schultz admitted to owning two .45 caliber handguns. He was arrested after responding that he “did not know” if he was still in possession of the firearms.

Upon receiving a search warrant for his hotel room, police allegedly found a Sig Sauer and a Smith & Wesson. They say he is responsible for loading both of them.

The arrest is certainly stirring up some discussions on social media. “matt shultz getting arrested and charged w a felony wasn’t rlly on my 2023 bingo card,” writes one Twitter user.

In an update from TMZ on Saturday (January 7), the tabloid site obtained footage of the arrest. In the video, multiple cops are surrounding the singer on the street. They subsequently put him into handcuffs. According to reports, this is his first felony and he has no prior criminal history.

Schultz and the band have won two Grammy awards during their time together. Their 2015 album, Tell Me I’m Pretty is responsible for bringing them home the award for Best Rock Album. Their 2019 project, Social Cues, won them the same award a few years later.

Future Settles Lawsuit Over “High Off Life” Album Title

2022 turned out to be yet another wildly successful year for Future. Although he’s more than a decade into his career as a rapper, he continues to dominate the charts and be one of the most popular emcees in the game.

His latest album, last year’s I NEVER LIKED YOU, is no exception. It officially went gold only a few weeks after its release. However, he was also dealing with some legal troubles behind the scenes.

Over the course of the past year, the Atlanta native has been in litigation for a trademark lawsuit. High Off Life, LLC claims that the 39-year-old stole their company’s name for his 2020 album. The hip-hop production company was founded in 2004, 16 years prior to the release. High Off Life contains the smash hit, “Life Is Good” and the Travis Scott featuring “Solitaires.”

The “PUFFIN ON ZOOTIEZ” rapper and his legal team originally requested that the judge dismiss the case. They say it infringes on his First Amendment rights. However, the trial evidently went through anyways.

The lawsuit has now been settled, as reports from Bloomberg Law indicate that the production company and the Atlanta native have “reached a mutually agreeable resolution.”

They will not be disclosing the exact terms of the settlement. However, a court filing says that both parties will pay their own respective attorney’s fees.

Of course, High Off Life wasn’t the only album that Future released in 2020. He followed it up with Pluto x Baby Pluto, a full-length joint album with Lil Uzi Vert. Backed by the highly successful “Drankin N Smokin,” the project showcases the duo’s chemistry.

What are your thoughts on the settlement? Comment down below. Finally, be sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates in music and pop culture.
