Young Thug Receives More Charges As He & Gunna Await RICO Trial

With less than a month until the YSL RICO trial officially begins, Young Thug is receiving another slew of charges. Thankfully, these ones are just misdemeanours. Still, though, they’re causing speedbumps for the “Day Before” hitmaker on his hopeful road to freedom.

On Monday (December 12), WSB-TV broke the news that Jeffrey Williams is in hot water for street racing, reckless driving, and speeding. He apparently drove a vehicle at 120 MPH during a May joyride on Interstate 85.

In response to these new claims, Thugger’s attorney, Brian Steel is maintaining his client’s innocence. “As of two weeks ago, that case was being resolved with a seatbelt violation,” he explained in a statement. “Today, now its indicted in the Fulton County Superior Court.”

Because of this, the rapper’s legal team deeply feels as though the system is doing him wrong.

Days before these new accusations came out, headlines revealed that prosecutors are currently working to ban video cameras from the January trial. At this time, several witnesses have been expressing concern for their safety if their testimony goes public.

“The State is concerned that video recordings of witnesses’ and victims’ faces could endanger these individuals’ safety,” a motion filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis says.

She also wrote, “The State is concerned about the impact upon due process and the truth-finding function of the judicial proceeding. Witnesses may be afraid to testify and provide full information if they are aware they are being video-recorded, and that their personal safety could be jeopardized as a result of their testimony.”

Previously, Willis filed another motion attempting to have the YSL RICO trial pushed back to March of next year. Her reasoning was to ensure that everyone in the indictment has adequate legal representation.

However, a Judge wants to ensure that Young Thug and Gunna have a fair chance at freedom. They’ve each been denied bond multiple times since their arrest in May. Read more about that here, and check back with HNHH later for more hip-hop news updates.

The visual album features a tribute to the late rapper Lil Keed, who is featured on the album, and Kayo’s labelmates Young Thug and Gunna, who are currently incarcerated.

Yung Kayo, born Kai Green, is an 18-year-old rapper taking the scene by storm with his up-tempo futuristic rap style that melds his fluid flows and undeniable energy.

While Kayo’s focus is on music, his creative side is also prevalent in everything he does. The cover art for his EP Sweet16 was commissioned by him and created by a graphic designer he discovered.

In addition, for Kayo fashion is something that has always been present as it originally started as something that came natural to him and would transition into him gracing runways during Paris Fashion Week.

As he gears up for the release of his next project, Kayo is proving that whether fans want to rage in a mosh pit or vibe to a melody, he’s capable of doing it all.

Young Thug Update: Prosecutors Move To Ban Video Cameras From Trial

As Young Thug remains locked up, there’s been a new update from his legal team.

A recently released report indicates that Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis has filed a motion to block video cameras from entering the courtroom.

This would prohibit visual recordings of the upcoming RICO trial. The D.A. previously made the filing on November 30.

The “Best Friend” rapper’s legal team argues that the prohibition of videos will help secure the safety of witnesses. Concerns have already been brought forward by some of those involved in the trial.

“Several witnesses have expressed safety concerns to the State and they are concerned about the safety of themselves and their families should they choose to testify,” says Willis.

Accordingly, the trial is proving to be a tricky one. In August, she and the rest of her team filed a different motion to restrict the release of juror identities.

Additionally, another file of a motion took place just a couple of weeks ago. This serves as an attempt to dismiss the use of the YSL artists’ lyrics within the case.

The unfair use of rap lyrics in court has been a recent topic of discussion. Consequently, judges across the country have caused controversy, deeming songs to act as admissible evidence within trials.

This process strips rappers from their freedom of speech. In addition, it problematically prohibits many from expressing their realities.

As a result of the backlash to lyrics being used to prosecute, California was proud to become the first U.S. state to ban their use in court.

Currently, several YSL rappers are awaiting their fate in a January trial. Both Thugger and Gunna have been previously denied bond three times.

Earlier in the year, the world was witness to the “DOLLAZ ON MY HEAD” collaborators being arrested along with other members of their crew. The indictment includes 56 counts of charges ranging from murder to gang activity.

Prosecutors allege that the music collective and its associates are actually gang members.

Chloe Bailey Says Her Upcoming “For The Night” Single Is About Gunna

Chloe x Halle always knew they had strong potential as a duo, but over the last year, we’ve seen the Atlanta-based sisters explore themselves as individuals more than ever before. While the younger of the two spent time working with Disney on The Little Mermaid live-action remake, the eldest sister has been busy sharing new singles in between her sultry Instagram snapshots.

Chlöe’s first release as a solo artist was “Have Mercy,” which she followed earlier this year with “Treat Me,” the Shemix of Capella Grey’s “GYALIS,” and most recently, the super sexy “Surprise.”

As she prepares for the arrival of her next single, “For The Night,” the 24-year-old created a Twitter Spaces session so she could dish to her fans about what they should expect.

“Imma tell y’all a little secret about ‘For The Night,’” she began. “*deep breath* I might regret saying this, but hey, maybe it’ll help f*cking streams. I don’t even think he knows this! I wrote ‘For The Night’ about Gunna,” Bailey admitted.

“Yep, I said it bitches. I said it. So, you know. Yep. I wrote that song after The Breakfast Club interview I believe,” the R&B vocalist recalled.

As she continued to defend her decision, Bailey stated, “I’m a songwriter. I write my own shit, I get inspired by the smallest things, so, kiss my ass *laughs*. Talkin’ bout why don’t I say free this, or free that? Kiss my ass, I support in real life. Thank you!”

“But I’m single,” she clarified just as quickly. “I’m single, guys. Sorry to bust bubbles, but when I wrote that song months ago, I wrote it about him.”

Bailey then urged her fans to make sure they stream her upcoming single so they can find out about all the tea.

“Y’all talk about I need to spill the tea? I spilled the motherf*cking tea! So y’all can’t say I don’t spill tea no f*cking more.”

New Episode Of “Atlanta” Includes A Surprise Gunna Cameo

Gunna may have spent the last couple of months (and potentially the next few as well) locked up in jail, but that doesn’t mean the DS4EVER hitmaker isn’t still managing to make major career moves.

As HipHopDX reports, Thursday (September 29) night’s episode of Atlanta saw the 29-year-old make his acting debut, playing himself alongside Brian Tyree Henry’s Paper Boi, who he was filmed playing cards with in the studio for their scene together.

The pair were engaged in a tense round of Uno – one which Gunna appeared to be losing – as Paper slammed down a “wild” card before selecting the colour yellow as his choice.

At this point, the “P Power” hitmaker accused his competitor of cheating, saying, “You know I ain’t got no more yellow cards.” Henry’s character responded by stating that that was the whole point of his move before throwing down two “draw four” cards, prompting Wunna to opt for an L.

Just a few seconds later, Childish Gambino’s Earn arrived in the scene, followed by Paper Boi’s Aunt Jeanie who promptly kicked everyone out of the studio.

It’s been noted that the episode was filmed this time last year inside Studio 9000, or the “A Room” at Atlanta’s own Pathwork Studios.

Aside from his TV triumph, Gunna is also likely feeling good to have his attorney Steve Sadow working so hard for his freedom. Currently, the rapper’s legal team is filing their third attempt at getting their client his ability to bond out of jail.

“Franz Kafka would be shocked to learn that ‘imprison him now; present the evidence sometime in the future’ appears to be the State’s reality in Fulton County,” Sadow declared in court. “The prosecution has been afforded ample time to develop evidence to support its motion to detain Kitchens. It has not succeeded.”

Though the lawyer makes a compelling argument, it should be noted that if the Fulton County judge denies this attempt, Gunna will remain behind bars until his trial is set to begin in January of 2023.
