Future Supports Young Thug With “Free Slime” T-Shirt

Future shared a picture of a “Free Slime” t-shirt in support of his longtime collaborator, Young Thug, on Instagram, earlier this week. The picture features another man rocking the shirt which has a portrait of the Atlanta rapper and “Free Slime” written in lime green. The post didn’t feature a caption.

Thug has been in prison since May 2022, when he and 29 other people associated with YSL were arrested on gang-related charges. Authorities charged Thug with seven additional felonies related to the possession of illegal substances and illegal firearms after a search of his home.

Thug’s attorney, Keith Adams, recently argued that his client is dealing with brutal living conditions in jail. “I know he’s had some difficulty of a similar sort at the Cobb County Jail a few months ago, and so I’m obviously concerned about his wellbeing,” Adams told Judge Ural Glanville. “Mr. Williams is sleep deprived, mandated to wake up on court days between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. and not having more than five hours of sleep per night. By the end of the week, Mr. Williams is fighting to pay attention to the goings on in his case.”

Future isn’t the only rapper to voice their support for Young Thug and his associates in recent months. Lil Durk reflected on their viral computer meme during an appearance on the Off the Record podcast. Additionally, Metro Boomin revealed that he had spoken with Thug back in March. Yeat also recently tapped Thug for a new single, “My Wrist.”

Young Thug Released From Hospital, Expected To Appear In Court: Report

Young Thug’s attorney confirmed his release from medical facilities after experiencing chest pains. Reports emerged on Thursday (May 11th) that the authorities rushed the Atlanta artist to a hospital before his expected court appearance. However, at the time, it was unclear what health-related problems he was facing. According to 11 Alive, Thug experienced chest pains before getting treatment from Grady Hospital. Fortunately, he has since been released following an evaluation and is now expected to appear in court today (May 12).

The attorney for Young Thug, Keith Adams, told Judge Ural Glanville that he was unaware of Thug’s condition. He added that he didn’t expect the rapper to appear in court for Thursday’s hearing. “I’ve asked the sheriff’s department if I’d be able to make contact with Mr. Williams. If I’d be able to see him at Grady,” Adams explained. “They said probably not. I do know that he’s had some difficulty of a similar sort at the Cobb County Jail a few months ago.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Thug facing issues related to his health behind bars. The 31-year-old rap star’s other attorney, Brian Steel, filed a fourth motion for bond last month. The attorney stated that court schedule leaves the rapper sleep-deprived regularly. Steel explained Thug had to wake up 4 or 5 a.m. for court. However, he doesn’t get back to the detention center until late at night. Ultimately, Steel argued that its hindered Thug’s ability to properly prepare for court. Additionally, Thug reportedly has access to few healthy food options.

Thug has been in custody for nearly a year at this point. He, alongside Gunna, were arrested as part of a sweeping RICO indictment involving alleged members of YSL. Prosecutors claim the alleged street gang is affiliated with the Bloods. Officials claim Young Thug is the “head” of the organized street gang. One prosecutor alleged, “He’s the one they’re all afraid of, he’s the one that’s King Slime.” However, his attorneys claim that prosecutors targetted Thug because of his art. We’ll keep you posted on further updates surrounding Young Thug’s case.

What Happens To Gunna Now?

Just a year or so ago, the notion of discussing the potential ill health of Gunna’s career would be futile, bordering on ludicrous.

At the outset of 2022, Gunna, real name Sergio Kitchens, had the world in the palm of his iced out hands. Upon releasing his third studio album, DS4Ever, in January, Gunna didn’t just release a smash which ascended to the top of the charts, but proved his star power by prohibiting The Weeknd’s DAWN FM from clinching the number one spot.

Within a matter of months, however, Gunna’s life, and that of his labelmates on Young Thug’s YSL, would be turned on their axis after they were indicted in a RICO case which alleged that Young Slime Life was a street gang that had wreaked havoc in Atlanta. Suddenly, the recording company which had been thriving just a year ago would find its empire ablaze.  At present, its leader, the iconic Young Thug, still remains in a cell, facing a maximum of twenty years behind bars. Meanwhile, Gunna is out after accepting an Alford plea that may have granted him freedom, but gained him the ire of his peers and audience alike as the man who once contributed a verse to the track “Take It To Trial” has since opted to forego legal proceedings entirely.

From the very moment that the news broke, Gunna has been adamant that he didn’t turn federal witness.

“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” Gunna told WSB-TV in a statement. “My focus of YSL was entertainment — rap artists who wrote and performed music that exaggerated and ‘glorified’ urban life in the Black community.”

While this may well be the case, his declaration to the judge that “I recognize, accept and deeply regret that my talent and music indirectly furthered YSL the gang to the detriment of my community,” teamed with his proclamation that “YSL as a gang must end,” was enough of a renouncement to have fans on Gunna’s subreddit wondering if they’re now duty-bound to unfollow him on Instagram.

Despite the fact that the apparent rationale behind the plea was to “to neutralize him and keep him out of the game” in regards to being called by either the defense or prosecution, the hip-hop world that he inhabited has been rocked to the core by the news and interpreted it as something else entirely. This has, in turn, made him the biggest posterboy for supposed “snitching” in recent memory.

Unjust as that may seem, there are reasons why Gunna’s plea deal is sending shockwaves through hip-hop as a whole. Not least of all, because it’s being interpreted as the rapper selling his own mentor, one who spoke so highly of him time and time again, down the river.

Plucked from obscurity after Thug was introduced to him by a mutual friend, Gunna was signed by YSL during the embryonic stages of his career, with his debut mixtape being released on the label in 2016. Since then, his career has been indivisible from Thug’s watchful eye. As a result, he has always rightfully credited Thug as a catalyzing force in both his career and life.

When posed with the question of who had done the most for his career between Thug and his longtime collaborator Lil Baby, the Georgia native didn’t hesitate to give his label boss all the flowers that he’s duly earned.

“Thug”, he told The Breakfast Club. “ feel like Thug helped me as far me being an artist and him already being in the game. We’re bigger as far as putting out songs and our fanbase, me and Baby. But as far as someone helping me in music, that’s Thug.”

Considering that Jeffery was the man who first afforded Gunna an opportunity, the fact that he would do something to potentially disregard everything that’s happened between them is naturally not going to sit well with those who’d followed their time together. It’s only exacerbated by others maintaining that they kept their mouths shut out of fealty to Thugger.

“Show me in my paper work I told on anybody lol,” said Young Thug’s brother Unfoonk after he took his plea, which gained him twelve years on probation. “I’m not even finna entertain any of it, peace and blessings.” Now, he’s experiencing such constrictive terms of the plea deal that he can’t even say “slatt” or “slime” on tracks anymore.

In addition to Unfoonk, Slimelife Shawty also received a ten year sentence, while Gunna received half of that. Whether or not there is rationale behind his suspended term being considerably less than others, it doesn’t change the fact that, optically, Gunna getting off with what’s seen as a light sentence will do little to slow down the snitching allegations.

Unfortunately for Gunna, hip-hop is a culture in which ingrained attitudes are incredibly hard to overcome. When cooperation with the feds is thrown into the mix, the lasting smudge that it leaves on an artist’s reputation is exacerbated.

Ever since getting Thug’s seal of approval, he has been nigh-on royalty within the ATL trap scene. Anointed as part of its internal fraternity, Gunna counted a who’s who of stars as not just collaborators, but friends. As a result of the bonds that snitching may have severed, Gunna trying to pick up where he left off as if nothing happened is rubbing people the wrong way. And in the view of Tony Yayo, the G-Unit veteran behind Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon, there is no way in which he can simply return to his preexisting post.

“The film in court came out. And, you know, of course, his lawyer wrote that [statement]. His lawyer probably wrote that. But, now in these days, you got the camera, it just gon’ look like you pushin’ pleas. In this business,” Yayo continued, “If you turn into a rat, your career is over. To me, I would’ve sat a little longer than coming out to what the internet do to you. That’s my opinion.”

Although Tony acknowledged that it’s hard to declare someone to be a snitch “without the paperwork,” it appears that both the internet and Gunna’s fellow artists aren’t willing to wait for clarification.

In addition to Lil Durk declaring “What happened to Virgil? He probably gon’ tell” in an unreleased snippet, Gunna has had jibes sent his way by his former YSL brethren including Lil GotIt who informed him that he couldn’t refer to him as “twin” any longer. Then, he was unfollowed by Meek Mill, and, most shockingly of all, Lil Baby.

Normally, it’d stand to reason that if you’re going to unfollow the very man that taught you how to rap and thus paved the way for your success, he must’ve committed a heinous act of treason.

As opposed to his return to the A being widely celebrated by his peers, all of those artists he’d previously co-mingled with on tracklists and tapes were now conspicuously silent. In many ways, this is unsurprising considering he’s operating in a field where many of his former allies have made their outlook on informants entirely explicit.

At the height of the controversy surrounding 6ix9ine’s snitching scandal, Future, with whom Gunna has collaborated with on numerous occasions, took a hardline stance against anyone caught telling, proclaiming on Instagram that “At the end of the day u work for the police. I believe if u hang with a snitch u a snitch and deserve to die but that’s jus me.”

Likewise, 21 Savage used Morgan Freeman as a conduit to outline his thoughts on informants. In his definition, 21 decreed that, “He betrays the trust of his team or his family/Hoping to save his own cowardly ass/The difference is, at least a snitch is human/But a rat is a fuckin’ rat, period.”

Naturally, it’d be unbecoming for these artists who’ve been so scornful of those who’d cooperated suddenly ushering Gunna back into the inner circle. Contrastingly, there is an argument to be made that Gunna would fall into the category of civilian and thus, would be exempt from allegations of snitching. A man who’d previously been clowned for his apparent appearance on CNN’s Crime Stoppers, Gunna’s legal team was quick to point out that he had no significant criminal history and as such, shouldn’t be treated as though he was a gang member.

“There is no allegation that he committed any act of violence,” they remarked. “There is no allegation that he ever sold any drugs. There is no allegation that he ever committed any act relating to obstruction of justice or interfering with the administration of justice.”

Although the wholly condemnable practice of utilising rappers’ lyrics as evidence meant that bars from Gunna such as “I killed his man in front of his momma / Like fuck lil bruh, sister and his cousin” were cited in the indictment, he wouldn’t exactly be the first rapper to adopt this sort of fraudulent persona. But, due to the fact his relationships with trap’s cream of the crop, he is expected to uphold the same street codes that they adhere to, lest he be labelled a snitch.

Whatever your thoughts on his role in any criminality may be, this grey area in regards to his status is not doing him any reputational favors.

In large part, it could be seen that the muted response to his celebratory IG post from hip-hop stars came from the fact that he’d already been seen publicly disavowing the crew. Even if he was only doing it save his skin, posting things such as “N****s acting like they switching to a side But it’s only one side . #YsltheLabel #FreeThug&Yak GUNNA BACC,” can’t ever hit as hard when you’ve been caught on camera saying that “I recognize, acknowledge and deeply regret that my talent and music indirectly furthered YSL the gang to the detriment of my community.”

“Gunna came out and tried testing the water,” remarked Akademiks on Twitter shortly after the post emerged, “claiming YSL the label and said Free Thugga…and everybody in ysl looking at gunna like ‘N***a,  u the reason he in there’…they all unfollowed him right after even thug sister.”

Although he may not actually be a “snitch” in conventional terms, it appears that there is a culturally enforced unwillingness to acknowledge that at the moment. In many ways, this has been fuelled by Thug’s business partner YSL Mondo, who quashed the notion that Gunna was advised to take the plea by Thug as, either Jeffrey nor anyone on his legal team knew that he intended to do that.

“You wasn’t suppose to do that my brother,” Mondo said in reference to Gunna on the Ugly Money Podcast, amid sharing texts with the host that allegedly confirmed that he’d divulged information to the feds. “Even if I wasn’t talking about it, anybody with common sense, anybody that been in the streets know you don’t do no s*** like that my brother. You’re s*** was gonna get dropped brother. You know that. What the hell, you panicked.”

Although his actions may not be as severe as others in hip-hop who’ve been lumbered with the dubious title of informant, the reason why Gunna is being treated with such contempt is that he’s contending with the concept that he’s thrown an icon to the lions in order to save his own skin. An immensely talented artist who has been integral to the world of trap for recent years, it can be hard to imagine a time where he isn’t at the forefront of the genre. However, what is obvious is that where he’d previously had all the goodwill in the world to his name, his next drop, whenever it comes and in what shape it arrives, is going to be crucial in determining if he truly can bounce back. Or perhaps, as the likes of Tony Yayo have suggested, allegations of snitching is the kind of mud that doesn’t just stick, but will permanently discolour the culture’s view of you.

Lil Durk Seems To Target Gunna With Video Of Young Thug

Lil Durk appeared to be calling out Gunna on his Instagram Story, Sunday, after sharing a video from Young Thug. Gunna recently accepted a plea deal in the YSL RICO case and is no longer in prison.

“Just because you lost me as a friend, don’t mean you gained me as an enemy,” Thug says in the video. “I still want to see you eating, just not at my table.”

Durk captioned the clip: “Just know who y’all is just be easy keep the noise complaining down.”

The post comes after Durk, and many other associates of Thug, unfollowed Gunna on social media. Durk also seemed to be dissing Gunna in a recent snippet of an unreleased track, in which he raps, “What happened to Virgil he probably gon’ tell.”

The two rappers previously collaborated on the 2022 hit, “What Happened to Virgil.”

After Gunna accepted the plea deal, his attorney, Steve Sadow, quickly took to Instagram to address any snitching allegations.

“Gunna did not snitch to get out of jail,” Sadow wrote at the time. “He has said nothing and is not cooperating. His plea statement cannot be used in court against any other defendant. So please stop spreading lies.”

Gunna himself also denied the rumors, sharing a statement to the media: “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.”

Young Thug Trial: Judge Orders Juror To Write 30-Page Essay After Skipping Jury Duty

A potential juror in the Young Thug YSL case dodged jail time for skipping out on a day of jury selection. Instead, the judge ordered her to write a 30-page essay on the importance of jury duty.

In today’s hearing, the judge spoke to one of the jurors who was said to be missing earlier this week. Court officials later found out that she flew out of the Dominican Republic over the weekend. At this point, the judge ordered for authorities to wait for her at the airport and bring her directly to court.

Today, the judge found her in contempt of court. However, he provided an alternative solution to the 20-day sentence attached to the offense or a $1K fine. The potential juror will now have to draft a 30-page essay detailing the history and significance of jury duty.

The judge laid down rigid criteria for the paper, including AP-style writing, 10 primary sources, and 10 secondary sources.

“You’re going to write a minimum — the history of jury service, who could not serve on a jury because that’s very important. Because years ago, people that looked like us couldn’t serve on juries. It was prohibited,” the judge said. “I want you to talk about jury service in Georgia and discrimination, at minimum. Those four things.”

The judge allowed the juror to add further context to the essay itself but they would have to provide information on the topics he mentioned.

The potential juror in the YSL case has three weeks to write and submit the paper electronically. From there, the court will scan the paper for plagiarism. “You’re going to have to write it yourself and then you’re going to come and talk to me about it. I think that’s fair under the circumstances because this is that important,” he added.

“The attention is how serious we view this aspect of jury service and participation of process,” he continued, apologizing for the media attention surrounding the situation.

Judge Warns Jurors Not To Discuss Details Of Young Thug/YSL Case After Hearing

The judge on Young Thug’s case warned jurors that they’d face violations if they discussed details surrounding Wednesday’s hearing.

During jury selection on Wednesday, the judge presiding the case made a statement to the court. The judge told jurors they can’t discuss the details with each other. If they do violate that rule, they will face punishment.

“I’ve only read a little bit of the indictment for you. You may think you know a little bit about this case but it would be a violation for you to discuss this case amongst yourselves,” he said. “While you’re sitting here, while you go to the bathroom, when you get released to go to your vehicles, in small groups, when you come home, when you’re coming in.”

“It will be a violation for you to discuss this matter until such time as I authorize you to do that,” he continued.

The judge said it won’t be difficult to identify those who violate his rules. “How?” You might ask. He said it’s because people “snitch.”

“Now, you’re probably saying, ‘He’ll never know.’ Oh, I’ll find out because people tend to snitch on one another,” he said.

Out of the 65 possible charges Young Thug faced, he was only hit with eight. Prosecutors charged Thug with conspiracy to violate the RICO act and two counts of participation in a criminal street gang. Additionally, prosecutors hit with several guns and drugs charges including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of codeine with intent to distribute, and possession of a machine gun.

The original indictment listed the RICO and street gang charges. However, the charges for guns and drugs charges derive from the May raid on his Buckhead mansion. However, the prosecutors only filed the charges in August.

We’ll continue to keep you posted on any more developments in Young Thug’s trial.

Waka Flocka Flame Addresses Gunna, Young Thug & Snitching Allegations

Waka Flocka recently addressed the upcoming trial for Young Thug and other members of YSL while speaking with Shannon Sharpe. Appearing on his podcast, Club Shay Shay, Waka said that he’s praying for the best for the artists.

“God bless their situation and I hope they learned from it and I pray they become bigger & better people,” Wake said when asked about the situation.

Waka also labeled Young Thug one of the hardest-working artists he knows.

Gunna has denied that his plea deal came as a result of snitching on his associates. Additionally, his attorney has said that the rapper will not testify against Thug or anyone else in YSL.

“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” Gunna said in a statement.

Elsewhere in the interview, Waka reflected on the death of Takeoff. The Migos rapper was shot and killed in Houston, back in November during a dice game.

“I can’t tell you why, and I never want to speak on nobody’s death, but I could tell you this: when God blesses you, you have to change your ways, you have to evolve — you have to,” he said. “I could just say wrong place, wrong time for these guys.”

Young Thug’s Witness List Includes Killer Mike, Lyor Cohen & More

Young Thug’s defense team submitted a list of witnesses in the YSL RICO trial, which begins this month.

With the trial beginning on Jan. 9th, WSB-TV reports Young Thug has nearly 30 people listed who could potentially take the stand. The 28 individuals include high-profile names such as record executives to city councilmembers.

ATLANTA, GA – NOVEMBER 17: Young Thug attends The Future: A Gentlemans Club at a private location on November 17, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia.(Photo by Prince Williams/Wireimage)

Killer Mike could be called to the stand if asked as one of Young Thug’s witnesses, as well as Kevin Liles and Lyor Cohen. The two executives have worked with Thugger for years at this point with Liles previously appearing in front of a judge during the rapper’s bail hearing in 2022.

Additionally, the defense’s list includes Thug’s fiancée, Jerrika Karlae, and his father, Jeffrey Williams. The defense also said that any co-defendants in the original indictment could also take the stand if asked.

Check out a few of the names below via WSB-TV.

  1. Michael Render, a.k.a. Atlanta rapper Killer Mike
  2. Kevin Liles, co-founder of Young Stoner Life records and current 300 ENT COE
  3. Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s Global Head of Music
  4. Atlanta City Councilman Antonio Lewis
  5. Corey Jackson, a.k.a. rapper Lil C-Note, and protégé of Young Thug
  6. Jerrika Karlae, Williams’ fiancé since 2015
  7. Jeffrey Williams, Young Thug’s father
  8. Attorney Ashleigh Merchant, criminal defense attorney hired by Ross Harris, accused in the hot car death of his son, Cooper; and Ryan Duke, one of the men accused in south Georgia beauty queen Tara Grinstead’s murder.

Young Thug is one of 14 defendants to face RICO conspiracy charges later this month on Jan. 9th. Prosecutors previously indicted 28 individuals they said were part of YSL. However, eight co-defendants, including Gunna, copped deals while six are either without lawyers or remain fugitives.

Following the holidays, the jury selection process begins today (Jan. 3rd) in front of Judge Ural Glanville.

We’ll keep you posted on anymore updates surrounding the YSL RICO case.

Young Thug’s Lawyer Speaks On Recent YSL Deals

Given recent news of Gunna’s release from jail, many are wondering how the rest of the YSL case will develop. Meanwhile, people are unsure whether this bodes well for its boss, Young Thug, or if he will face increased consequences. His lawyer, Brian Steel, spoke about these plea deals within YSL and how they might actually be hurting him. According to Steel, law enforcement will take advantage of people seeking release in exchange for information incriminating Thugger (Jeffery Williams).

Steel stated, “When they want a deal, law enforcement officers are all too eager to say, ‘Well, tell us about Mr. Williams. Was he involved in this, what do you know about it? That’s the problem with this case. It’s coming from the word of people who are getting deals to say ‘Yeah, he was there. I saw him around’ or ‘He gave the order’ or ‘I heard from someone else he gave the order.’ That’s what this case is about. You’re not gonna hear any confession of Jeffery Williams.”

Furthermore, Gunna spoke about his recent plea deal and explained the circumstances. He wrote, “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.” YSL co-founder Walter Murphy also took a plea deal.

Meanwhile, Young Thug’s legal battles took stranger turns indeed this week. Indeed, a naked man boasting “Free Young Thug” disrupted the “Digits” rapper’s hearing via Zoom on Thursday (December 15th). Moreover, the hearing was to suppress evidence in YSL’s RICO case.

While authorities scrambled to turn courtroom monitors off, they already had delayed the hearing by several hours given tech issues. Still, Thug attended the hearing in-person for the first time since his arrest, and he scored a big win. Judge Glanville prohibited prosecutors from using mobile phones and other evidence taken from the rapper’s home with no search warrant in 2015. Moreover, prosecutors intended to present said evidence at the January trial. Needless to say, the Zoom bomber brought a much less helpful surprise.

Slimelife Shawty Released In Third YSL Plea Deal

Recent releases and negotiations indicate that the YSL gang indictment saga may be entering a new phase of more freedom. Many of the Atlanta label’s members are doing time and accused of racketeering, gun and drug distribution, and other charges. Meanwhile, fans were ecstatic about the news of Gunna’s release this week. Also, officials also freed YSL rapper Slimelife Shawty on a plea deal, the third so far in this case.

Moreover, Shawty requested an Alford plea, which is the same one Gunna’s team employed. The 24-year-old pleaded guilty as a first offender to one count of conspiracy to violate the RICO Act. Meanwhile, the court will sentence him to ten years: one year commuted to time served, and nine of probation.

Moreover, Slimelife Shawty grew up on Cleveland Ave, the same neighborhood that Young Thug, Lil Keed, and Lil Got did. However, he’s with Alamo Records, and made waves Keed’s viral track “Blicky Blicky.” Shawty’s attorney reportedly stated that most charges he faced of “in furtherance of this conspiracy” were not criminal. Later, Shawty posted on his Instagram story to share the good news- and clarify it.

“Yea I’m home,” he wrote via text on a black background. “Ain have to snitch to get here dickhead . I admitted young slime life was a gang cus it ain’t illegal for no group to be a gang look it up that don’t hurt nobody anybody can be a gang , plus the founder already admitted it stupid. what I pose to say if a founder admitted it. what I den do was say Yes it’s a fact people in ysl commit crimes like murder and etc cus ion no nun bout that .”

Similarly, Gunna’s statement of release clarified that he wasn’t speaking against his crew. “While I have agreed to always be truthful,” he remarked, “I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.” While his statement, along with court footage, has received a wealth of positive reactions from other rappers, some were critical.
