Walmart Cancelled Gunna’s $100K Christmas Giveaway, But The Rapper And His Team Gave Out $100K In Gifts To Families Anyways

Gunna has run his “Gunna’s Great Giveaway” at Christmastime for years. In fact, the rapper and sunglasses brand Goodr were set to do the 5th annual Giveaway this year in conjunction with Wal-Mart. But when Gunna struck a plea deal that got him out of Fulton County jail after seven months in exchange for a guilty plea on racketeering charges, Walmart decided to cancel the giveaway.

While a sadly predictable move for a corporation trying to distance themselves from a rapper with a new blotch on his criminal record, this was disappointing for the 1,000 families who had signed up for Gunna’s giveaway. So, Gunna and his team took matters into their own hands and still decided to give out $100,000 in gift cards and gifts to the families who had signed up for the giveaway.

“It was essential to Gunna, his Great Giveaway Family Foundation, and Goodr to make sure that families received the assistance promised to them no matter what,” Goodr CEO Jasmine Crowe said in a statement. They added, “We contacted all 1,000 families this week. Working with the City Of South Fulton, every family received their gift cards and gifts today. It’s important to note this event is in its fifth year. Since 2018, we have worked with Gunna to host his $100K Christmas Giveaway — this was not a first-time event.”

Well this is awesome, any way you slice it. A lesson in never let the corporate BS stand in your way. Happy holidays to Gunna.

Gunna is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Gunna’s Team Hands Out $100K In Gift Cards After Christmas Giveaway Cancelled

Shortly after Gunna copped an Alford plea, Walmart abruptly canceled the 5th Annual Gunna’s Great Giveaway. At this time, 1,000 families sign up for assistance from Gunna in partnership with Goodr.

“Gunna and the entire Goodr team were looking forward to brightening the holidays of the 1,000 families that registered. We are aware of how much the promised gifts meant to those families and we are collectively working to find an alternate solution. Registered families will be updated about the event’s status. Goodr apologizes for any inconvenience this unexpected turn of events has caused.”

Gunna didn’t allow Walmart to prevent his annual giveaway from going down, especially on the 5th year. The rapper and his team handed out $100K in gift cards to the families involved with the Gunna’s Great Giveaway. Jasmine Crowe, Goodr’s founder and CEO, issued a statement surrounding the event.

“… I wanted to inform you that we contacted all 1,000 families this week. Working with the City Of South Fulton, every family received their gift cards and gifts today. It’s important to note this event is in its 5th year. Since 2018, we have worked with Gunna to host his $100K Christmas Giveaway — this was not a first-time event,” Crowe wrote. She added that many families contacted her about the significance of the giveaway.

“It was essential to Gunna, his Great Giveaway Family Foundation, and Goodr to make sure that families received the assistance promised to them no matter what,” the message read.

We haven’t heard anything from Gunna since his release. However, it appears that he’s already back in the studio cooking up new music. At the same time, he continues to face backlash for admitting that YSL is a gang in court. It’s unclear what he has in store for 2023 but it looks like he’s trying to regain the momentum he had when DS4Ever dropped.

Young Thug Associates Offered Deals To Boost D.A.’s Case: Report

As fans celebrate Gunna’s release from jail, Young Thug remains incarcerated. The rappers were arrested at the top of the year along with two dozen others alleged to be their associates. Authorities claimed that Thugger, Gunna, and their alleged crew were a part of the YSL street gang. Yet, attorneys for both rappers contested YSL is no more than a record label.

Reporter George Chidi has been regularly keeping the world updated on this RICO case. On Twitter, Chidi shares why D.A. Fani Willis is more concerned with figures who allegedly were ringleaders of the criminal street gang. This may be why we’re seeing several people released as Thugger continues to fight for his freedom.

“My read here is that the DA will deal out (almost) everyone else if it means improving their chances of convicting Young Thug,” Chidi reported.

“The operating philosophy as described to me by a ADA is to ask ‘absent this person, would this crime still happen?’ If the answer is yes, cut a deal.” He added, “If the gang targeted someone for shooting, who pulled the trigger is less important to Willis’ office than who turned on the green light.”

Chidi said that he’s “surprised at the deals” being made, stating that the D.A.’s office sees Thugger as “the shot caller.” There has been speculation that Young Thug is behind bars telling his associates to agree to plea deals so he can take the charges.

“Thug doesn’t have leverage,” said Chidi. “Also, if Thug and Brian Steel go down, they will go down fighting.”

Wack 100 Checks DJ Akademiks Over Gunna Snitching Allegations

It’s been less than a week since Gunna’s release from jail after taking a plea deal.

As the story and YSL’s RICO case as a whole continue to develop, many big names are weighing in on social media.

Last Thursday (December 15), 6ix9ine took to his Instagram account to publicly accuse the “Drip Too Hard” rapper of snitching in order to get out of jail.

The “KEKE” rapper’s manager, Wack 100 is now speaking out as well, sharing the same sentiments as his artist.

In an Instagram post yesterday (December 19), Wack shared his thoughts on Gunna taking the plea deal. He directly calls out DJ Akademiks in the process.

“@akademiks Stop bro … His statements were clearly on the RECORD … And the whole “DEFENSE” was #YSL IS NOT I REPEAT IS NOT A GANG JUST A RECORD LABEL… YOU HIM OR THEM CANT REWRITE THE LAWS OF #SNITCHING. CO-OPERATION WITH THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY MAKES U A CO OPERANT WHICH EQUALS #Telling,” he wrote.

His post comes after Akademiks shared screenshots of a conversation with Gunna’s attorney, Steve Sadow.

In the screenshots, the media personality asks Sadow if he can “publicly address how Gunna’s viral ‘yes ma’am video affects Thug and YSL if at all?”

“Doesn’t effect anyone but my client. Out of court statements at a plea hearing cannot come into evidence against someone else,” the attorney replies. He then confirms his consent for Akademiks to share this conversation online.

Sadow has been extremely busy since his client’s release, insisting that there is no authenticity behind the rumors.

However, it seems as though Wack and 6ix9ine aren’t buying it.

“Gunna did not snitch to get out of jail. He has said nothing and is not cooperating. His plea statement cannot be used in court against any other defendant. So please stop spreading lies!!!” the attorney wrote in an Instagram post on December 15.

Additionally, Sadow says that the Georgie native plans to plead the 5th if he’s called to testify against his YSL crew.

On the other hand, Thugger’s attorney, Brian Steel, is speaking out about how these plea deals affect his client. He says that these deals being offered to other members of YSL indicate that the “Best Friend” rapper is evidently being targeted.

Based on the information that we have, what do you think about the situation? Can the snitching rumors finally be put to rest? As always, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest updates.

Lil GotIt Reacts After 6ix9ine Mentions Lil Keed To Diss Gunna

The word “snitch” clearly triggers Tekashi 6ix9ine. Hip-hop’s shunned him (with the exception of Akademiks and Wack 100), but he’s apparently the resident expert when it comes to cooperating with authorities. Needless to say, 6ix9ine couldn’t help but react to the viral video of Gunna admitting YSL is a gang.

6ix9ine invoked the name of the late Lil Keed in particular to throw shade at the YSL camp. The Long Live Mexico rapper passed away three days after prosecutors hit Young Thug and YSL with RICO charges. However, one of his final posts reiterated how YSL was not a gang but a label and a family in support of his incarcerated cohorts.

Tekashi used the post to taunt Gunna following his admission that YSL is, indeed, a gang. “Ya dead mans last post on IG,” 6ix9ine wrote. “@gunna if he was alive he be disappointed to the Yes Mam.”

Keed’s brother, Lil GotIt and Young Thugs’ sister, Dolly White, fired back at 6ix9ine. Following his IG diss, Dolly and GotIt told 6ix9ine to refrain from bringing up the late rapper in his attempt to prove his point. “Aye, keep it towards Gunna, bruh. Don’t put my brother’s name in shit, n***a. You trippin’,” he said. “I don’t give a fuck about none of that… I ain’t playin’ about my brother.”

He continued, “I don’t care about security, I don’t care about none of that. Get down with a n***a. on my momma.”

Dolly White also shared a post with Lil GotIt by her side where she shared a similar message. “Chill on that Keed shit, bro. ‘Cause Keed ain’t get killed and this ain’t that type of time… Troll all you want to but chill on that Keed shit,” she said.

At this point, 6ix9ine hasn’t responded to Keed or Dolly White but it seems unlikely that he’ll slow down on his trolling.

YSL Rappers Lil Duke and Slimelife Shawty Released on Plea Deals

YSL Rappers Lil Duke and Slimelife Shawty Released on Plea Deals

More YSL rappers have accepted a plea deal. According to The New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli, YSL rappers Lil Duke and Slimelife Shawty have been released from jail on separate plea deals. The release comes days after Gunna was freed.

“Like Gunna, Slimelife Shawty faced just one count: conspiracy to violate RICO the acts he was accused of—arguably the most tenuous in the indictment—were based only on lyrics, videos, clothing, and social media chatter/threats,” Coscarelli shared online.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Shawty, born Wunnie Lee, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act as a first offender. He was sentenced to 10 years with one year of time served and nine years of probation.

Lil Duke, born Martinez Arnold, pleaded guilty to violating the state’s RICO act and participation in criminal street gang activity, dropping five drug and gun charges. Arnold was sentenced to 12 years, with two years commuted to time served and 10 years of probation.

There are 24 remaining co-defendants in the trial, including Young Thug. Thug’s attorney Brian Steel states the plea deals show his client is the target.

“He’s like the easy target,” Steel explained. “So, somebody gets arrested and gets in trouble and they want to deal. Law enforcement officers are all too eager to say, ‘Well, tell us about Mr. Williams. Is he involved in this? What do you know about him?’

“That’s the problem with this case. It’s coming from the word of people who are getting deals to say, ‘Yeah, he was there or I saw him around or he gave the order or I heard from someone else. He gave the order.’ That’s what this case is about.

“When you target a human being who’s so well-known, you make it so easy for the other person to say, ‘Oh, you mean I could be released from this location that I don’t want to be? All I have to say is I know some about Jeffrey Williams?’ That’s pretty scary.”

The YSL trial will begin on Jan. 5, 2023.

6ix9ine Weighs In On Gunna Taking A Plea Deal

Upon Gunna’s release from jail on Wednesday (December 14), many in the hip-hop community are reacting to the situation.

One artist who has been noticeably quiet up until now is 6ix9ine.

Taking to his Instagram account yesterday (December 15), the “KEKE” rapper is explicitly breaking his silence. In a since-deleted post, he shares his take on Gunna’s release from jail following a plea deal.

“Just stfu and listen I know ya don’t wanna accept it[.] Your man is fighting for his life in court on a gang RICO,” he starts the caption off, before exposing the conversation between the “Drip Too Hard” rapper and the judge.

“Judge: You are aware YSL is a gang correct. Fat ass Gunna: Yes [ma’am].
Judge: ONLYYYYY you and Jeffrey are in the car and the police find a handgun and drugs. This didn’t belong to you correct? Fat ass Gunna: Yes [ma’am],” he writes.

“Go ahead and make your 1,000,0000 excuses. I stand on whatever I do or did. That’s why I’m still walking on this earth AND NOTHING EVER HAPPENS TO ME. I am him p*ssy. Real n****s getting shot and kicked in [their] face, can’t be me,” he adds.

The video in question simply shows Gunna in the courtroom, accepting his plea deal earlier this week.

However, 6ix9ine is alluding to the fact that it sounds like the 29-year-old is snitching on his fellow YSL label mate, Young Thug, in the process.

Regardless of the disgraced rapper’s thoughts on the situation, Gunna’s lawyer is speaking out to set the record straight. In an Instagram post yesterday (December 15), Steve Sadow says this widespread theory is untrue.

“Gunna did not snitch to get out of jail. He has said nothing and is not cooperating. His plea statement cannot be used in court against any other defendant. So please stop spreading lies!!!” he wrote.

Additionally, there’s been a positive development in the upcoming YSL RICO case. Just yesterday, the judge dismissed some key evidence against Thugger.

His legal team was correspondingly successful in showing the judge that the evidence collected from a 2015 raid was “unconstitutional.”
