Ice Spice Achieves Over 1 Billion Spotify Streams Less Than A Year After Blowing Up

There is no one doing it quite like Ice Spice. The female rap game has plenty of up-and-comers at the moment. Still, the Bronx-born baddie has quickly asserted herself as the Princess of Rap. Not only does she have bragging rights like collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift under her belt, but Isis Gaston is now among an elite category of artists who have surpassed a major Spotify milestone.

On Tuesday (June 20), it was revealed that the 23-year-old has officially surpassed one billion streams on the platform. As TMZ reports, it’s not exactly surprising news. Especially considering that January’s Like..? EP is the best-performing hip-hop project that’s dropped so far in 2023. The short, punchy effort contains titles like “In Ha Mood” and Spice’s breakout single, “Munch (Feelin’ U)” which caught the attention of Drake last summer when she was first blowing up.

Ice Spice Solidifies Her Status as the Princess of Rap

The East Coast star’s biggest release to date is “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress, which earned her her first RIAA Platinum certification. Aside from that, her aforementioned joint effort with Swift, “Karma (Remix)” remains in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 chart. The song initially arrived in May and was last sitting in the No. 9 slot of the coveted ranking. Her “Princess Diana (Remix)” with Minaj has also done impressive numbers. Of course, they could possibly be topped when they team up again for “Barbie World” from Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s upcoming film. It’s set to hit DSPs this Friday (June 23). From what we’ve heard so far, it’s even catchier than expected.

Elsewhere in the news, Ice Spice made waves with her performance at Governor’s Ball earlier this month. Not only did her constant twerking catch the eyes of thirsty fans (and haters) during her appearance, but she also landed on our best-dressed list from the event. See other artists whose outfits we loved at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Doja Cat Wears Wild Red Contacts During Absurd Instagram Live Stream: Watch

Even before reaching the heights of rap and pop superstardom she’s sitting at today, Doja Cat’s always had a habit of trolling her fans. Unfortunately, as her position in the industry has risen, so have claims linking her to Satanism and the Illuminati, all of which she initially denied. Upon realizing that the comments likely won’t stop, no matter what she does to discredit them, the California native has been doing what she can to jokingly fuel the rumours. Sometimes she sends out tweets with references related to the controversial group, but more recently, Doja debuted a new look that has her looking ethereal and eerie in tandem.

On Monday (June 19) night, the “Need To Know” hitmaker went Live on Instagram as tens of thousands of fans tuned in. While sitting in a pitch-black room, Doja’s face was illuminated by a spotlight, revealing that she was rocking a platinum blonde wig with black streaks at the moment, under what appeared to be a cowboy hat. It was her makeup that caught our attention, specifically her eyes. Not only did Doja put in a set of blood-red contacts, but she also added eyeshadow in the same colour beneath to intensify the look.

During the Live, Doja had fun playing around with different sounds, some of which made both her and viewers crack up. In other recent streams, she’s been previewing music from her upcoming album, though this one seemed more focused on spreading laughter to start the week on a high note.

Since then, we’ve also seen the 27-year-old share a new series of images on her feed giving a closer look at her chilling contacts and gothic outfit. “🐺awooo,” she wrote in the caption, getting into the Halloween spirit months before the holiday rolls around.

Jorja Smith Trends On Twitter As Fans Shut Down Body-Shaming Comments

26-year-old Jorja Smith is best known for two things – her naturally alluring beauty, and her show-stopping voice. She’s still relatively new to the music industry compared to other R&B darlings, but it was back in 2016 when her Project 11 EP made a serious mark on the industry. Since then, she’s made magic on Lost & Found in 2018, as well as 2021’s Be Right Back. The latter consists of just eight titles, but thankfully Smith has held us over with a string of singles since then.

The most recent to come from the “Let Me Down” songstress is the Nia Archives remix of “Little Things,” which she shared a visual for this past New Music Friday. So far, Smith’s loyal fanbase has been loving the fun track, but that unfortunately hasn’t stopped critics from making comments about her body. The new clip shows that Jorja has put on some weight in recent months, but she wears it well, carrying herself with complete confidence in a white crop top.

Jorja Smith Shares “Little Things (Remix)” Video with Nia Archives

On Monday (June 19), the Walsall native began trending on Twitter as reactions to the “Little Things (Remix)” came pouring in. Thankfully for Smith, the amount of love and praise we’re seeing far outweighs those trying to make her feel ashamed about her changing figure. “Jorja Smith did not ask anyone to make her their sex symbol, and now they’re insulting her because she gained some weight?” one user pointed out. “And they think they’re normal?” they later asked.

“Jorja Smith just released her best song to date but the internet is busy insulting her, what a shame,” someone else wrote, encouraging readers to stream the catchy track. Of course, there have been plenty of thirsty responses too, making it obvious that the recording artist is still an object of desire, no matter what size she is.

Doja Cat Turns Up The Heat In New Radiant Red Polaroid Photo

The two-year anniversary of Doja Cat’s beloved Planet Her album comes later this week, just as the Grammy Award-winner is gearing up to release its follow-up. Over the past few months, we’ve watched her change not only the project’s title but also her own stage name, in random collections of bizarre tweets. After much trolling, Doja finally unleashed her LP’s first single, “Attention,” this past New Music Friday (June 16), generating plenty of buzz about what she’ll be sharing next.

Apart from discussing her music on social media, the “Say So” songstress has also been speaking candidly about some changes she made to her body. Not only did Doja undergo liposuction, but she also had a breast augmentation that she’s proudly showing off now that they’ve healed. On Monday (June 19), her Instagram feed lit up with a new portrait, captured on Polaroid, that puts plenty of emphasis on her enhanced chest under an intricately designed red top.

“It’s getting 🌶,” the fashionista wrote in her caption. In her usual manner, Doja couldn’t help but clown herself in the comments, writing, “It’s getting pepper.” Others chimed in with unserious quips like “It’s getting red chilli,” and “It’s getting pepperoncini.” Elsewhere, some are speculating that the 27-year-old is hinting at a collaboration with Ice Spice on her upcoming project, though that hasn’t been officially confirmed at this time. Doja has yet to share a release date for the highly anticipated body of work, though she has been rather generous in sharing previews with listeners.

When she’s not using IG to catch fans in her thirst traps, the California native has also been going Live on the platform to preview upcoming music from her next LP. This past weekend, Doja Cat previewed “Balut,” which has earned mostly positive reactions online so far. Erica Banks Shakes Her Booty In A Nearly Naked Little Black Dress While Promoting “Ain’t Got Time” Single

Like many of her contemporaries, Erica Banks has had a successful 2023 so far. The rising rap diva has been fairly consistent in terms of new music, beginning the year with her “It’s Goin Down” and “Gossip Folks” freestyles. Before the spring began, she and Finesse2tymes went head-to-head on social media over what caused the demise of their short-lived relationship. Of course, the Memphis native has seen moved on to a situation that better suits his needs, consisting of him and three women. Banks, for her part, has kept busy flaunting her BBL on social media.

During her feud with Finesse, the reality star showed off her figuring while strutting to his hit song, “Hot To Act.” The salacious stunt earned her plenty of laughs from followers, but she’s since turned her efforts to using her booty to promote her own music. On Sunday (June 18), Banks celebrated Father’s Day by donning a barely-there black dress, which did little to conceal her curves as she clapped her cheeks along to “Ain’t Got Time.”

Erica Banks is Back at It

The southern starlet shared the single back in April and has since racked up over 333K streams on Spotify alone. Since then, we’ve also heard her join DOM on “SDA” earlier this spring, as well as on “Bad B**ch Alert” with Splash Rob. It remains unclear when Banks will be returning with new music, but we do know we’ll be seeing more of her on our screens when the next season of Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta kicks off.

Erica Banks obviously seems proud of her work on “Ain’t Got Time,” but during an interview earlier this spring, the Texas native revealed that she wasn’t a fan of her breakout single, “Buss It.” According to the rising starlet, if it weren’t for her team insisting, she wouldn’t have put the track (which has since gone viral on TikTok) out. Read everything Banks had to say at the link below and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Kiana Lede Makes R&B Magic On “Grudges” Album With Bryson Tiller, Ella Mai, Khalid, And More

The women of R&B aren’t coming to play this summer – especially not Kiana Lede. On Friday (June 16), the songstress shared her highly anticipated sophomore album, Grudges, which marks her first full-length effort since 2020’s KIKI. Her debut LP became an immediate fan favourite, thanks to titles like “Mad At Me,” “Forfeit” featuring Lucky Daye, “Chocolate” with Ari Lennox,” and “Second Chances” alongside 6LACK.

For today’s drop, Lede has brought on an equally impressive roster of collaborators. She and Ella Mai connected on the previously released “Jealous” single, which was also accompanied by solo efforts like “Irresponsible” and more recently, “Deeper.” Bryson Tiller makes an appearance on “Gone,” and near the end of the 18-track effort, Khalid lends his talents to “Where You Go.” As noted on the opening song, “Bitter B**ch – INTROlude,” we hear several toxic viewpoints throughout the lyrics, proving that it may just be an “Act Bad” summer after all.

Kiana Lede’s Grudges Album is Here

During an interview with Vibe, Lede spoke candidly about the creative process behind her sophomore release. “Grudges actually has multiple meanings in this album. Obviously, there’s the [literal one]. I’m a bitter b**ch [who] definitely [has] grudges. I hold them very well. I’m working on it. I’m in therapy,” the 26-year-old shared. “I want fans to be able to acknowledge that it’s okay to be f**ked up, but you also have to call it, name it and work on it. For a lot of people like me, especially an Aries, it’s hard not to hold a grudge,” the singer added when asked what she hopes listeners take away from her work.

“It’s always about learning and growth and I would love for people to be able to create a safe space, or twerk in their room. I embrace a lot of emotions in this album, so I really just want people to call [out] your weaknesses and traumas but also enjoy working through those things, and accept it and grow from it. Tour will be coming at the end of the year,” she also confirmed. Stream Kiana Lede’s new Grudges album on Spotify above, or find it on Apple Music here. After you’ve listened, let us know what your top three favourite titles from the tracklist are in the comments. For more HNHH release recommendations, make sure to check back later this weekend.

Cardi B Wants To Work With Artists Who “Make [Her] Ears Jump,” Not Just Big, Charting Names

When Cardi B goes Live on Instagram, you never know what you’ll get. Earlier this month followers watched her take a break from eating Popeyes chicken to twerk along to her most recent single, “Put It On Da Floor Again.” The collaboration with Latto has been a huge success for the pair, but in her latest stream, the New York rap diva made it known that she doesn’t plan to only work with “big, charting” artists to guarantee success. Instead, she’s feeling called to work with those making music that really stands out to her.

“I feel like y’all constantly ask me to do big collabs,” the mother of two explained to those tuning in earlier this week. “I’m not gonna be collabing with everybody that’s big. I’m gonna be collabing with people that make my f**king ears jump and make me happy,” Cardi added. She also made it clear that it’s tiring for fans to constantly encourage her to hop on whatever track is charting at the moment. “If I like it, I’m gonna get on it,” the 30-year-old assured them. “Even if it doesn’t make sense.”

Cardi B Gives an Update on Her Future Vision

Now that she’s been at the top of the rap game for several years, Cardi is feeling more “comfortable in her position to do so.” Ahead of her sophomore album (which she promised is coming soon earlier this year), the fashionista is feeling like her “confidence is all the way up” in all areas of her life. “I always been a b**ch that pulls ni**as, that pulls b**ches,” she reminded viewers. “Your f**king favourite rappers, your favourite f**king favourite athletes f**king been in my DMs and f**king waiting for a chance, but it will never happen!”

“N**as d**ks and b**ches p***ies start shaking when they hear I’m gonna drop something,” the “WAP” hitmaker further bragged as her Live went on. Doechii Delivers Incredible “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM (Freestyle)”

Ice Spice is frequently called the People’s Princess, but let the record show that Doechii is taking excellent care of her fans too. The “Persuasive” songstress has markedly been booked and busy at festival stages across the country over the past few months. Among her recent performances were two iconic shows at Coachella that may have been some of her best yet. When Beyonce tapped Kendrick Lamar for the “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM” remix amid her RENAISSANCE World Tour last month, it didn’t take long for Doechii’s fans to step in and say that their favourite singer deserves a spot on the hit song too.

She hasn’t gotten a call from Queen B (that we know of). Still, the Florida native did decide to drop a freestyle on her own YouTube account today (June 12). “Too much, ho, don’t do too much / Pullin’ up in a Magic City in an uber / Pockets fatter than a motherfuckin’ fupa,” Doechii’s clever but comedic rhymes begin over the infectious beat.

Doechii Does Her Thing Over Beyonce’s “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM”

“I see a lotta b*tches, I don’t see a lotta stars / I hear a lot of rappers, I don’t hear a lot of bars,” she later adds. “I see a lot of plastic, I don’t see a lot of barbz / I see a lot of digits, I don’t care about the charge.” Fans are already proclaiming their love for the previously-teased drop. Thankfully for them, it actually marks Doechii’s second arrival in the past few days. On Janelle Monae’s The Age of Pleasure album, the 24-year-old shines on “Phenomenal.”

Janelle Monae’s “Champagne Sh*t” Makes A Splash On Today’s “R&B Season” Update

Not only are we living in the Age of Aquarius, but thanks to Janelle Monae, we’re now also living in The Age of Pleasure. The 37-year-old shared her new album earlier this weekend, and already the internet can’t get enough of it. Unsurprisingly, a title from the project was picked to appear on our latest R&B Season playlist update, along with tracks from other favourites like Maeta and Ar’mon.

Taking the top spot today is “Liquor Store In The Sky,” a collaboration between BJ The Chicago Kid and Freddie Gibbs. Since dropping on Friday (June 9), the nearly three-and-a-half minute-long effort has already amassed upwards of 55K streams on Spotify alone. From Maeta’s When I Hear Your Name album we’ve picked a solo effort called “Questions.” Elsewhere on the UK songbird’s LP, you can hear her connect with Lucky Daye, Ty Dolla $ign, Ambré, and other friends.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist

R&B duo Emotional Oranges gave us more heat in the form of “Wrong Hands” to kick off June on a strong note. From BLK ODYSSY’s DIAMONDS & FREAKS project, we’ve hand-picked “PINK MARMALADE” with Eimaral Sol, though the full 15-track album is worth streaming when you have the time. As promised, Monae’s “Champagne Sh*t” comes after that. The catchy song is second on The Age of Pleasure‘s tracklist, right after the previously released “Float” single with Seun Kuti and Egypt 80. Others who appear alongside Janelle include Doechii, Grace Jones, CKay, and actress Nia Long.

The first of our two final selections is Ar’mon’s “Assignment” single. Closing things out behind that is “Kissing New People,” marking Ty Dolla $ign’s third consecutive week appearing in our list of picks. Baby Tate Pays Homage To Ludacris With New Hip-Hop 50 Apple Music Single, “My Biznazz”

The 50th anniversary of hip-hop has brought plenty of excitement back into the genre this year. Artists both new and old are showing out in celebration of the boundary-pushing genre, which has helped many of them make millions and live out their dreams. Apple Music specifically has been doing their part to celebrate by bringing in select artists to make songs exclusively available on the streaming platform. Among them is Baby Tate, who reimagined a throwback Ludacris song for her contribution, “My Biznazz.”

As Uproxx notes, the reality starlet covers the Fast & Furious actor’s 2001 fan favourite, “Rollout (My Business)” nearly word-for-word, though there are a few modern updates. “I got my twin Glock .40s, cocked back / Me and my homies, so drop that / We rolling on twenties, with the top back / So much money, you can’t stop that,” she rhymes twice on the chorus. Tate’s listeners are more than pleased to hear new music from her, especially after she reminded us that she’s “only getting better” when sharing salacious thirst traps on her birthday last month.

Baby Tate Isn’t Playing on Latest Release, “My Biznazz”

Aside from this weekend’s surprise arrival, we also recently saw Saweetie and the Atlanta native team up for the “Hey Mickey!” remix, which has been making rounds on TikTok as of late. Other recent efforts to come from Tate include her Mani/Pedi mixtape, as well as collaborations with both Babyface and JID that continue to earn her plenty of praise.
