Wendy Williams’ Guardian Attempted to Halt Airing of Lifetime Documentary

Was ‘Where is Wendy Williams?’ Exploitative or Just Another Chapter in Williams Saga?

Former daytime talk show host Wendy Williams finds herself embroiled in a legal battle as her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, attempted to halt the airing of the Lifetime docuseries “Where Is Wendy Williams?” The controversy arose after Morrissey filed an emergency injunction just days before the series was set to premiere, citing concerns over her portrayal in the documentary.

According to reports from The Wrap, Morrissey initially took issue with the docuseries after viewing its trailer in February. Feeling apprehensive about how she would be depicted in the series, Morrissey filed a petition against A&E Networks to prevent the airing of the show. The move came as a surprise to many, given that Morrissey had been aware of the documentary’s filming for over a year.

In response to Morrissey’s actions, A&E Networks filed a legal defense arguing that her attempt to silence criticism of her role in Wendy Williams’ life was unconstitutional. The network contended that Morrissey had ample time to address any concerns she had about the documentary, as she had been aware of its existence since at least February 2023. Additionally, A&E’s legal team highlighted that Williams had been compensated for her participation in the series.

The unfolding legal drama sheds light on the complexities surrounding Williams’ personal and professional life, as well as the challenges faced by those tasked with overseeing her affairs. With the airing of “Where Is Wendy Williams?” potentially hanging in the balance, the dispute underscores the delicate balance between freedom of expression and the protection of individual rights.

Thoughts?

Today in Hip Hop History: The Diplomats Released Their Debut Album ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ 21 Years Ago

Dipset

On this date in 2003, Cam’ron’s crew from Harlem, The Diplomats, dropped their debut album Diplomatic Immunity on the Roc A Fella Records/Def Jam imprint during the pivotal time when Dame Dash appointed Cam’ron as the President of Roc-A-Fella Records.

Coming on the heels of the release of Cam’s Come Home With Me LP, Diplomatic Immunity introduced the entire Dipset squad, including Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Freekey Zeekey, Un Kasa, and Hell Rell. With production from the likes of Heatmakerz, DR Period, and a then virtually unknown Kanye West, the trailblazing sound of old soul samples pushed Dipset to the forefront of the creative curve of Hip Hop, which offered the Blood-affiliated crew from Uptown an almost cult-like following. Rell was incarcerated by the time the album was available for purchase.

The album was saturated with longstanding hits such as “I Really Mean It,” the infectious “Dipset Anthem,” the female-friendly “Hey Ma,” and the Master P assisted “Bout It Bout It…Part I “. Commercially, the album was considered average, debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200 and selling 92,000 copies in its first week, but the album was certified Gold by the RIAA in 2005.

Salute to Cam, Juelz, Jim Jones, Freekey, and Hell Rell for this classic piece of Hip Hop history!

Ye Issues Statement on His Name Change: ‘This Is Who He Is Now’

Kanye West Says He Asked About Threesome with Him, Nicki Minaj and Amber Rose

Ye wants the world to stop calling him Kanye West. In a statement released by his chief of staff, Milo Yiannopolous, Ye expresses his desire that everyone, from websites to streamers, stop using his former name.

The notice reads: “Ye is one of the most recognizeable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes. He didn’t take the decision to change his name, potentially sacrificing some of the immense value by the brand ‘Kanye West,’ lightly. The change was made fully, legally, and permanently. This is who he is now. His name is Ye.”

Last week, Ye had a lot to say during his interview with Big Boy. One of the most personal was his revelation that he believes his mom speaks to him via his daughter, North West.

“I remember sitting with North in Italy and playing her ‘Back to Me,’ and asking her, ‘What do you think about this line in the middle of the song?’ And I was like, ‘Do you think I should change this?’ And she’s like, ‘You know, it’s a good song.’ Sometimes I feel like my mom speaks through her. ‘It’s a good song, this is just a banger. You just have to say how you feel.’”

North West is diving deeper into her music career. Appearing with Ye at the Vultures 2 experience in Phoenix, North revealed she has been working on her album, Elementary School Dropout.

“I’ve been working on an album and it is called Elementary School Dropout,” she said on stage.

You can see the moment below.

Today in Hip-Hop History: Chi Ali Released His Debut Album ‘The Fabulous Chi-Ali’ 32 Years Ago

32 years ago today, Chi Ali released his first and only album The Fabulous Chi-Ali. Chi-Ali first appeared on De La Soul’s single “Say No Go” and on Black Sheep’s debut album, A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing featured on “Pass the 40”. Chi Ali at the time was a core member of Native Tongues, a New York City-based hip-hop collective, and also had connections with the Legion family, along with Showbiz and A.G.

In 1992, Chi-Ali released his first solo single, “Age Ain’t Nothing But a #”, which was a moderate hit and reached #6 in the US Hot Rap Singles chart. The song was popular on urban radio stations, and the music video received good rotation on Yo! MTV Raps and Rap City. The album in which the song was featured was released shortly thereafter, which yielded two other singles; “Roadrunner” and “Funky Lemonade,” which were both remixed and re-recorded.

In the late 1990s, Chi-Ali appeared on Dres’s solo album, Sure Shot Redemption, and began featuring with other artists. His most recent collabo was with Jadakiss on a song entitled “G-Check”.

On January 14, 2000, Chi-Ali shot and killed a man during an argument in The Bronx. He was later arrested in 2001 for the death of his girlfriend’s brother, Sean Raymond, after spending a year evading police and even appeared on an episode of America’s Most Wanted. Chi-Ali hid in numerous East Coast cities until he was apprehended on March 5, 2001, in New York City and was subsequently convicted of the killing and served a 12-year bid at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.
